  1. I didn't say, and don't think it's because of his haircut, but I bet the staff (and other players) would be more encouraged if they saw some outward displays of maturity though. And the benching of him prior to a game in his hometown might be taken as an indication that he hasn't been getting some of the messages they have been sending him. I like your analogy.
  2. It has nothing to do with how much money he makes. It has to do with showing some humility among your PEERS, when you haven't proven yourself worthy of being their peer. In sales, coffee is for closers, in the NFL, flashy haircuts are for sackers. Get it? The guy has been an embarrassment for many people in the organization, from the scouting dept., to the coaching staff, and I think he should be smart enough to be very low key until he starts playing well. I don't consider that haircut "low key" and I don't think Chan Gailey does either.
  3. The Danny White comparision isn't so strong because Danny White was kept on the bench by Roger Staubach HoF, and Fitz has been in and out of the starting job, backing up Trent Edwards (No, I don't need to hear that "that's the coaches", because we all know Fitz wasn't lighting it up). Was Danny White so great anyway?
  4. Winning is not really what I am looking for (but the "coming of age of a new star" posts seem a bit much to me, considering that he hasn't even won a game yet). What I want to see is how he performs in the latter part of the season, because I think those will be tougher games than the next few (the poster I responded to feels that Fitz can prove himself a quality QB by week 11, but those games appear to be the soft part of the schedule, SO... I responded to that comment, get it?). Basically I agree with you, but for some reason you are trying to find a conflict. We will all know by the end of the season if Fitz is the guy, I'm sure we agree on that , no?
  5. Not to belabor the haircut angle, but what do you think goes through Gailey's mind when he see's an underperforming (really, that's a kind assessment) 2nd year #1 pick, on a 0-6 team walking around with a stupid@** haircut, that screams out "Do you know who I am?" louder than Ko Simpson? He must CRINGE. Cringe throughout his extra-long work week whenever he sets eyes on Maybin. Cringe while he watches game film, cringe while he watches Maybin struggle in practice, and cringe while he answers questions from the press about this Maybin fool. He was probably doing Maybin a favor by not letting Maybin embarrass himself in front of his friends and family.
  6. I think you are right. I also think he should know better than to have such a stupid "Look at me" haircut considering his lowly position. Instead of "Maybin" perhaps he should shave "Bust!"
  7. He just said "we're not that far away", I took that to mean that they feel the team is better than the fans might think, and that IF they make the right decisions they will compete for the playoffs by next season. Not really brash or arrogant. Fans don't have much choice. I am no polly-anna, and I have been seriously following the Bills since about 1980. Honestly, it's just football. What are your options as a fan? I stopped giving them my money a loooong time ago.
  8. This part of the schedule appears to be the softest, it's the last part of the season, when the games really count, that I want to judge Fitz on. He hasn't even won a game this season!
  9. What would you expect a new GM to say? I'm not gonna rip him for it, he has got to exude confidence, if only for the player's sake. Obviously I don't think they expected to lose the first six. I don't think they realized how bad T. Edwards really was, but I think they believe they can compete for a playoff spot by next season. Do I believe that? It would take a real gem of a player from the next draft (as well as some other good picks, and a key free agent or two), and some real progress from the guys they drafted this season. Fitz would have to be for real of course, and 2 of the other teams in the AFC East would have to drop off. Then maybe the Bills could compete for a Wildcard slot. Not likely, but not crazy-talk either.
  10. Yeah, but I don't think he meant half a season. Did you? Maybe. Then again, it sure seemed like they were having a hard time getting coaches interested in coming to Buffalo, didn't it? Just because there are coaches/players/waterboys/cheerleaders available doesn't mean they want a job in Buffalo.
  11. I can't help but think that by the end of the year, this thread is going to look ridiculous with hindsight. Todd Collins put up some nice numbers for a short stretch a few years back....
  12. Let's see what happens if he has more success, and teams have more film on him and this offense, and they are taking the Bills seriously, and the Bills aren't coming off a by week. One thing is certain, he is much better than Trent Deadwoods. I'm still skeptical.
  13. It happen EVERY SEASON! It doesn't matter how good or bad they are. They sell a lot of merch, magazines, and TV ads. More money is made if everyone believes that Dallas is gonna be a contender.
  14. You know whay he is such a baby? Because he is used to winning! Winning all the time. Being the best player on the field every time he plays. Having all the breaks go his way, because he and his team have kicked the rest of the league around (for the most part) for years. He doesn't like it when things go badly. Not at all. Know who doesn't act like a baby. Trent Edwards. Nuff said? I think so.
  15. i would be disappointed if the Bills drafted him. He is not that great of a passer, and could "bomb" badly in the NFL.
  16. That hope is marginal. I think it can make the organization (and the other players) look worse than it actually is, and can undercut progress some other young players (players that might actually have hope for a decent career) might be making. I guess it's not worth arguing over though.
  17. What satifaction do some fans get from seeing the Bills throw a series of marginal players out on the field, as replacements for what are most likely marginally better marginal players?
  18. It sure seems that way. The attendance is an embarrassment to the league. That doesn't mean that the Bills won't be sold first, but I would think that the Jaguars could be had at a lower price.
  19. Some one is gonna die on the field in the next few years. I don't believe that improving the equipment is going to make things worse, they are already using the helmet as aweapon, I don't think they will use it more if the gear is better. Improving the equipment seems to be the best way to help prevent injuries.
  20. No, let's line you up and have four 300lbs guys gang tackle you, hopefully without a helmet, but at least without a facemask. You can wear a skirt if you want too. You think this will make for a better game than them dealing out harsher penalties for aiming at the upper body on receivers going for the ball? They just want to see the defender making a play for the ball instead of trying to make a big hit on receivers that are trying to catch a pass. It's not that big of a deal.
  21. What a showman this Harrison fellow is!
  22. If you can't tell the difference between a check and a tackle (especially multiple guys all charging toward one guy) I can't reason with you.
  23. I think it has way more to do with things like television and the false expectations TV has generated in peoples minds, but some (usually the angry and simple-minded) like to point to a lack of corporal punishment. Dude, if you played in a NFL game, even with the new rules enforcement, you would most likely be wheeled off the field.
  24. They don't tackle in hockey. Good thinking!
