No one seems to be mentioning the O-line. It's hard to quantify, but I really believe that the running game can be so much more effective with the right guys in place.
It's not that the O-line played overtly bad, it's just that Chan and Fitz were trying to play within their limitations, and by the 2nd half the game got away from them.
I think that going into the game Chan and Fitz were uncomfortable with the O-line. I think the Bills need to run the ball to beat the Jets, but without Bell (or even Hairston) playing and more importantly a beat up Levitre playing out of position AND not inside powering the inside running game, I think Chan & Fitz played too conservatively. They knew the CB's were great, and that there would be single coverage with an extra guy for pas rushing/run support, but they didn't have the horses on the line to match it. I think that really effected the gameplan.
Eric Moulds was a 1st rd pick. Lots of guys never explode. I think Jones does some things well, but I wouldn't be unhappy if the Bills tried to get a hold of a better receiver for next season.
The previous Bills teams Ryan has faced have SUCKED, especially at QB. The key is the Jets have great corners, not really some great insight needed.
None of the other remaining opponents have defenses that are near the Jets.
It's not even that I would expect him to make a play, just that he might have opened up some field for the other receivers. He's not doing anything on the bench.
Dallas doesn't have shutdown corners to play single coverage man-to-man, which allows them to dedicate another guy to rushing the passer/stopping the run. That was what was giving the Bills so much trouble.
NO other team on the schedule can do that. I hope Dallas tries though...
I think they were tentative without Hairston or Bell. Having Levitre inside would've improved the running game, maybe just enough to get some 3rd down conversions going.
I suggested during the game, that they send Spiller out wide to go deep. He is the fastest guy, just the fact that he's out there would get the Jets attention, and he could stretch the field. They should be working on some deep plays for him anyway.
Of course, they have to get better. But I still expect them to win 10 games. What beats NE might not beat the Jets (obviously). The point is the Bills are still good enough to beat MOST teams. They play the Jets twice, there are 14 other games...
I didn't say they were great, but if the offense wasn't getting chased off the field so quickly and leaving the defense in a hole, the whole game would have played out much differently. The OFFENSE was the source of the strategical problems!
waaa,waaa, waaa!
Look at the rest of the schedule! Aside from the other Jets game, there isn't a single team that has a good defense. The Bills don't match up well with the Jets. Big deal. The Bills don't match up well with them. waaa, waa, waa!
He has been getting more experience. He was making too much money here though and that was bad for the lockerroom. He had to go. He is nothing special.
They had man to man with an extra guy on the line. If you can't get deep, you have to have great run blocking. The O-line is too banged up to handle that task RIGHT NOW.
IO thought they should have tried to at least threaten them by sending Spiller out wide to go deep.
