The One and Only Stevie Johnson Thread
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I agree that there is lots of gray area, it is clear about pre-meditated celebrations. There is no way to deny that this was pre-meditated. GUILTY. -
And with the 10th pick in the 2012 draft,

Shutdown Corner's "Hidden Pro Bowlers"
Geno Smith's Arm replied to TPS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all the talk about the Bills needing a TE , and Chandler just being decent, I think if Chandler had Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers as a QB he would be a huge star. -
Two wins v.s. Patriots would make this a good year

Stick to it, man! Love it! Just hold on to the idea that those DJ teams were better than the team ChaNix is building. Tell us every thread! -
A Runningback Controversy Developing?
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Hsp08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe they can work up a 2-back offense? They both catch the ball well, so with one in motion etc, it wouldn't have to limit the offense or show their hand to the defense. Add a speed receiver into the mix, and things could really get interesting. After watching Fitz struggle, I think taking some focus off the passing game would help him quite a bit too. -
Phil Simms.....Annoying tool or not?
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Jerry Jone's Toupee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he is one of the best ever. I'm not kidding. He anticipates many plays and understands how the games unfold. He is a bit of a cocky jerk, and I hated him as a player (always whining at other players on his team), so it was a big surprise to me that I really like him as an announcer. -
Is Fitz really that bad?
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The real point is that Fitz played well in the early games, but poorly in the the later games. Do you disagree? -

Haha. I was pulled away for holiday duties mid sentence. I don't think he is consistent enough to lead a team for a full season, but he has proven himself capable of playing at a high level. He has played games that Losman or Edwards could only dream of having. I think there is a difference between guys like them, and Fitzpatrick (or a guy like Romo). As far as Jackson being the reason for the offense's early success? Well, if Fitz just needs a good running game to be successful, then they should keep him, and concentrate on improving the rest of the team. I think they need to get draft a QB instead. -

Yeah, but if Fitz can be successful with a good RB then he is worth keeping as a starter, do you agree? I didn't say he is a good QB. I said he can play good. -

I disagree. He played very well in those early games. The defense didn't complete any passes. His real problem is that he isn't consistent. He IS that good, but he is also that bad. Neither is his "normal self". His problems are in his head. -

I hope you are right...but I don't believe it. If that's the case, then now that they are out of contention for the playoffs, shouldn't they start Thigpen? Don't you think NOW would be a great time for the organization to save some face? The management looks inept right now because they gave an unproven QB a large contract, and I think any excuse would welcomed by them. Like I said though, I hope you are right. -

I think his skills are adequate enough for him to perform at a high level. I think he is physically tough. I think he has his teammates respect. I don't think he is tough enough mentally to lead a team through a whole season. I think the injuries to the team ARE enough of an excuse for the team to lose some of these games, maybe even all that they have. But there's no way the injuries are an excuse for the way he has fallen apart. Ryan Fitzlacksit. -
Which one is it? Fitz needs encouragement, or belittling? Or maybe inadvertent belittling by way of encouragement? I have seen lots of encouraging happening between players on terrible teams. They still sucked. Hollow words of encouragement aren't real effective. I think the main thing the team lacks is talented players and coaches.
-
What do you think it accomplished? Did he lead a comeback after JK's stirring words of encouragement? And do you really think that no one else on the team offers him encouragement? That's silly, I'm sure that all throughout these 7 games there have been all kinds of words of encouragement for him. It won't make him any better at this point. Get real, the season is done, and he might well be looking at the end of his career as a starting QB.
-
Nonsense! I'm not the only one that thought it was out of line. It sure looked belittling to me. And again, Jim Kelly wouldn't have appreciated that kind of thing from some former player in a similar situation. As far as Fitz needing encouragement (so you at least agree that that's what Kelly was doing, some here think it is presumptuous to assume that is what was going on), I don't believe anything that could be said was going to help. After the game, that's when he can do that. Not on national television, and in front of fans.

That is certainly how I expect it to happen, but I think Luck is a valuable enough prospect that it could be approached a better way. It may also be approached like the Manning/Rivers trade, but with more additional picks. But my real point is that he will be chosen first whether the team needs him or not, and I don't see how it would be more likely that the Bills could trade for the pick, if a team other than the Colts have the first pick. He isn't coming to the Bills.
-
I think that is the way to insure you get max value. That way you can finish your draft, figure out what you need, and other teams can do the same. It would probably involve veteran players and future draft picks. This may not be the tact that is taken, but it is either that, or select him then trade for later picks to a team that is about to select when a player you covet is available. He WILL be selected first, regardless of whether or not the team intends to keep him.
-
It doesn't matter who selects first, if they trade up to select him, they will keep him. If the Colts (or any other team) don't want him but still have the first pick, they will still select him then trade his rights to the highest bidder. I don't see how this opens the door for the Bills, anymore than it's already opened. If I was a GM with the top pick but didn't need a QB, I would select him, let the draft finish, and then see what packages teams can put together for a trade.
-
I don't mind him being on the sidelines. I think my point is clear, but you are missing it. It is mostly the way he did it that bothered me too. If he just went over and said something to pick him up, well that's fine. But going over and turning Fitz's helmet up to look into his face was belittling. Like he was his father or something.
