New England adds 7th Free Agent...
Geno Smith's Arm replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hahaha! Thanks WSS. I never thought of myself that way though. Gee, last season I bet "bbb" $150 that they would win 10 games! I really like what the team is doing. Some of my posts might seem a bit extreme, but sometimes I'm just poking at people a bit. I love the Bills. -
New England adds 7th Free Agent...

They picked 2 outside free agents that they felt would upgrade the team, and sign the big one. The other got a huge offer from another team. They resigned all their own free agents that they like, and are known quantities. They have virtually turned the entire roster over in a couple years, and now have the guys they drafted in their preceding drafts, worked into starting lineup. They also select in the top portion of each round in the coming draft. I think they are doing a great job building the team. I would rather have our roster/draft situation (excluding QB) than the Pat's. Every team in the league has holes to fill. -
He appears to be about the same skill level as Bell, but without any injuries. Seems strange that I haven't heard anything about him. Maybe it's his choice of friends, Jerome Simpson and Aqib Talib...

I agree with your posts in this thread. Sam Bowie or Michael Jordan? Nuff' said.

My thoughts on our first 3 picks
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, and both those guys are rated at the bottom of the 1st round. Martin has fallen fast, and Mike Adams has "Mike Williams" type concerns about his work ethic. Neither is a shoo in to be any more effective as a rookie starter, than Bell or Hairston are going into this year. They may select Reiff if he is there, but I think the Bills will draft a LT in the 2nd or 3rd, and either resign Bell, start Hairston, or bring in a stray veteran. -
That sounds logical, but there is a reason why sometimes a diamond in the rough is found in the later rounds. The guys at the top of the draft are pretty much known quantities. Guys that have played that position for a while, shown what the can do, have received top notch coaching at big schools, and have played top flight competition. That's how they get rated high. Guys like Bell and Peters are guys that maybe changed position late in college, played at smaller schools, didn't receive the top level coaching or conditioning etc., but showed good athleticism and room for development. They are much higher risk selections because they are drafted for POTENTIAL. Most don't start as rookies, and most don't pan out...

My thoughts on our first 3 picks

I don't think most people here dispute the need for a LT. I just think that most don't believe that an LT that will be there at 10, is going to be much better than a guy they can get in the 2nd round. Like, is the 3rd best LT much better than the 5th best? And do you pass on a top flight talent at another position of need, for that 3rd best LT? Reaching on picks to fill holes, has played a big part in keeping the franchise in the hole all these years. -
Perhaps "isn't built" isn't the clearest term, but certainly "virtually every draft analyst considers his coverage ability to be his main weakness" is pretty clear. He also had a torn ACL... It's not that I don't think he will be good player, just that I wouldn't draft him for his coverage abilities.
-
I think there are plenty of guys in this draft that can fit the bill, I just hope they draft one. It's hard for me to get a feel for how well Irvin reads plays because he is always rushing from the line. In the Lavonte David footage, you can see how well he reads plays.

Chan had told the team earlier in the season that anyone that got an "Excessive Celebration" penalty would be benched for the rest of the game. He had to stick by that...
-
I agree, they should resign Scott. They need more than just him though.
-
Sorry, just being sarky. I think he would be a great addition, because he could play all any LB spot, and stay on the field for all 3 downs.
-
Because the draft profiles list him as a middle linebacker. Other than that, there is no reason...

Martin has plummeted since the combine. He also played in the PAC10, and didn't face SEC-type talent. I don't think the Bills will reach for him at 10. I think it's BPA in the first, and that won't be Martin. I wish there was an LT there, but I don't see it this draft. It's looking to me like M. Floyd, much to my chagrin. Considering how few teams are using 4-3, they likely feel they can find a LB in the 2nd or 3rd. Writing off Kuechly as a middle linebacker is wrong. He can play outside as well, and is a 3-down linebacker (but I don't expect them to select him). Looking at the Bills new defense, you have to expect that teams will zero in on the linebackers as the weak area. The Bills are gonna need depth there too, because guys are gonna get hurt (if Barnett goes down, the right side of the defense will be soft). They will acquire a couple new linebackers. -
Hightower isn't built for covering TE's. Virtually every scouting analyst considers that his main weakness.
-
I think OLB is the weak link of this Defense. I have started looking at Luke Kuechly because his skill set seems to be what the Bills need, He is considered by most, a top 15 pick. Watching L.David, I was really impressed, and I think he would be a better value than Kuechly, in the 2nd. This guy can read a play! I don't think his size should be an issue, and I think Wannstadt likes smaller, quicker LB's. I'm a big fan of Ronnell Lewis as well. One of the things I like about RL, is that he hits HARD, and I think he will make some big plays in the NFL. I think that with the league emphasizing offense, it seems that "big play defenses" are the way to go. That means players that take risks. Lewis is that kind of player.
-
really, I know everyone wants a dominant d-line, but like the 2nd poster noted, there are going to be lot's of short, quick routes run against the Bills, and they need the right LB's there to counter those kind of plays. They don't need another D-lineman.

Buddy will be on PFT in a moment

They will get #2 receiver by the time the season starts. They might even trade for one. It may be a one-trick pony type guy (like Lee Evans, but not Lee Evans), but they need to find a guy that can add to what they are able to do. -
That's one of the silliest things I've ever read!

Heard the Vikings are looking to trade J. Allen

I think it would be a less effective move than adding a linebacker or cornerback... -

Because he is retired, doesn't live in Buffalo, and has moved on with his life.
