  1. Does anybody watch her? Maybe that's why McCain chose her, he knew nobody would notice.
  2. I don't care what party, that type of family situation and an intense political job don't mix. I could see if she didn't have the baby and just had the other kids, but to have a disabled baby and a pregnant teen daughter? And to not even take some leave to be with the baby? If Obama had picked someone in a similar situation I would have thought he was crazy and would have questioned his judgement.
  3. She's a news anchor, not a commentator. How about someone who has a Bill O'Reilly type opinion show like Chris Matthews, Bill Press, or Anderson Cooper?
  4. Do you really think that Obama uses a teleprompter when he's out on the road, as he is now, travelling by bus throughout the Midwest? Everyone uses it during a major television address. By your accounting, McCain should be the heavy favorite and Obama the underdog during the debates. I'd take that bet.
  5. The families are an issue in that it gives an indication of how the candidate thinks. I question the thinking of a women who volunteers to go back to work 3 days after giving birth, and a disabled child at that, and has 4 other kids at home. Has her duties as governor, and potentially VP, caused her oldest daughter to have to take over the role of mother? Is the daughter's pregnancy a cry for attention, or thinking that if she has to play the mother role, she might as well be one? And knowing the daughter is pregnant, is it the best idea for the family to put them in the national spotlight? What about spending time with the daughter during this traumatic time in her life? It's a fact that most mothers are the primary caregivers in families, especially with babies. Their job is tougher than most fathers in that respect. Right or wrong, that's the way it is. Most women would cherish the opportunity to spend time with their newborn baby if given the chance. I've spoken with women who feel the same way and question how she could do an effective job being both VP and mother. This isn't a 8 to 5 job with sick days and personal days to attend to family business. A VP has to be ready for duty 24/7. One woman interviewed in a group on tv said, "If she wants to take away time from her family for political office, that's her business. But if she has to take away time from political office for her family, that's our business.".
  6. While John McCain turns down an interview by that hard-hitting Larry King.
  7. McCain wants a maverick like himself as VP. Maybe he defines a maverick as someone who cheats on their spouse. If only Lieberman wasn't so faithful.
  8. Tonight's speech topics Rudi Guiliani: "A noun, a verb, and 9/11". Mitt Romney: "I spent 44 million and all I got was this lousy speaking slot". T-shirts available in the lobby. Sarah Palin: "Abstinence-only makes the heart grow fonder, and the belly grow bigger".
  9. I thought Republicans thought all lawyers are evil. Do they know what you do, or are you a closet lawyer?
  10. When you're hot, you're hot, when you're not, you're dead.
  11. I guess he didn't update his page with the latest Republican talking points. Expect him to be dating Britney Spears in a year.
  12. True, Lincoln could just put his feet up and relax while those petty issues of a Civil War and slavery worked themselves out. Where was his "Crawford ranch" again?
  13. Served in the Illinois State House, opposed a popular war, and only served one term in Congress. Barack Obama? No, Abraham Lincoln. I guess you don't think he was a good president.
  14. If you're a governor, and you know a crime has been committed and you don't report it to the proper authorities, you would not be upholding the laws of your state that you took an oath to uphold.
  15. Anyone know the age of consent in Alaska? Wouldn't Palin be bound by her duty and have to call for a statutory rape charge if the daughter was underage? How old's the guy?
  16. I wonder what the reaction would have been if Obama had a 17 year old daughter in the same situation. Would the conservatives be so forgiving as they are with Palin, or would we be hearing about how this is what happens when liberal parents don't teach their kids proper values, and is this the kind of leadership Americans want for its children and education system, one that results in teen pregnancies? If they can't lead their own children, how can they lead the country? I'm just wondering.
  17. Palin didn't even get a passport until 2007. I didn't think there was any national politician with less interest in foreign policy than Bush before he became president.
  18. Should be an interesting debate about how successful conservative parenting is in preventing premarital sex, with regards to not teaching sex education and preventative measures.
  19. The hurricane was a blessing in disguise for the Republicans. It gave them an excuse for Bush and Cheney to not appear at the convention, which helps McCain because it's a couple of less obvious reminders that he wants to continue many of their policies, and why the Republican brand is tarnished.
  20. She might teach it to her kids, but that's her own business. The issue is that she advocates it being taught in public schools.
  21. Will Sen. Larry Craig be attending and giving tours of his memorial bathroom stall at the airport?
  22. I'm curious as to what the reaction will be from those Conservative / Republican men who can't support the idea of a woman as president. Will they now stay home on election night?
  23. Women who are pro-lifers weren't going to vote for Obama anyways, this is a play for Democratic Hillary supporters, the majority of whom are pro-choice. I'd be for letting just women vote on abortion rights, since they're the ones more affected by it. Most mothers are more involved with the daily upbringing of kids, especially 4 kids including a baby, then most fathers. I commend them for that. But having all those kids AND being president takes it to another level. I'm quite happy with the pick, I think it weakens McCain's chances. And it puts more emphasis on the fact that today McCain turned 72.
  24. Let's see, I supported Hillary but I'm sexist, and I support Obama but I'm racist. That makes alot of sense. It's a legitimate question to ask if a woman with 4 kids, one a baby with Down's Syndrome, can really devote the proper time and energy needed to take care of them AND be the leader of the free world. I'll be interested in hearing her response, as I'm sure it's a question other women will ask. They know better than most men how hard being the primary caregiver is.
  25. Well, the foreclosure debacle has also affected Colorado. Nice, the first Hitler reference of the day.
