McCain puts together his transition team
PastaJoe replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Why does he need a transition team to go back to the Senate? Can't they just pin a note to his jacket with instructions for the cabbie on where to drop him off? -
Clarence Thomas proved that skeletons in the closet don't keep you off the court. I'd prefer her becoming Senate Majority Leader.

Broad Street Bullies back Palin
PastaJoe replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No suprise, Palin faced a chorus of boos throughout the ceremony. They played music the whole time to try and cover it without success. I like the Obama/Biden sign in the backround. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7TgDanmWkg&eurl= -
I'm beginning to think that McCain and the Repubs know he's going to lose, and at this point they figure they'll just try to motivate the conservative voters with anger so they come out and vote in congressional races to try and minimize their losses in the Congress. In the next debate I'd like Obama to go up and chestbump McCain and say, "I'm right here, look me in the eyes and say it to my face, bee-yaach!"

But if you're so confident, it's not a gamble, it's a certainty. Give his money to charity if you don't want it.

The Philadelphia Flyers decision to invite self-described hockey mom Sarah Palin to drop the ceremonial first puck at the team's home opener on Saturday night is prompting head-scratching in the worlds of sports and politics. For Republicans, who are clinging to diminishing hopes that Palin and her running mate, John McCain, can carry Pennsylvania, a less-than-warm welcome from the notoriously unruly Philly fans could be embarrassing to the GOP ticket. A cascade of boos for Palin might also prove to be a PR nightmare for the Flyers, reinforcing yet again Philly fans reputation for boorishness, and focusing unwanted attention on the motives of the teams managing partner, big GOP donor Ed Snider. "I don't think it is a good idea to mix politics and sports. Half the fans will disagree with what you say or do", said Ted Leonsis, owner of the Washington Capitals, a conference rival of the Flyers. Leonsis, who in the primary gave maximum contributions to both Palin's running mate and his Democratic rival Barack Obama, said if he invited a candidate in a looming election to appear at a Caps-related event, I would be sure to give both sides equal time. And he added, "I am surprised that the candidate would go on the ice in Philly". Philly fans threw snowballs at Santa Claus and booed Beyonce because she was wearing a Michael Jordan dress. This is dangerous territory. (Flyer owner Ed) Snider and his wife have given nearly $90,000 to federal candidates and causes, mostly Republican, including $25,000 to McCain's joint fundraising committee. But Saturday's puck-drop is not political, according to Flyers officials, who issued a statement in which Snider explained, "because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started." Ike Richman, a spokesman for Comcast-Spectacor, would not say whether the Flyers planned to invite Obama or his running mate Joe Biden, who represents nearby Delaware (a hotbed of Flyer fandom), to similar events. But he said Palin's appearance "does not mean that we support or do not support their political views. This is all about hockey." Sure. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14462.html Read another story of a hockey mom who countered Palin by making and selling "Hockey mama for Obama" bumper stickers.

So a friend and appointee of Reagan founded an organization that hired a domestic terrorist. So Reagan was a friend to a terrorist sympathizer. Isn't that how the guilt by association works? If Reagan was still alive, Bush would have arrested him for aiding a terrorist cause. -
Zombies in Chicago are going to get zombie JFK elected again? Maybe Sarah Palin is right, it's the End of Days!

The Lingerie Football League, the publicity stunt you might have seen on pay-per-view during a recent Super Bowl halftime show, is taking its bras, panties, and straps to the gridiron for real, forming a league set to premiere in September 2009. Tryouts took place in Seattle this past week and Mitchell Mortaza, founder of LFL, said the reason games won't begin for a year is because they were looking for the hotties at first, and will now try to instill in them some actual football skills to go along with the flowing hair and potential perky enhancements. League play won't start until next September, partly because football skill isn't a requirement. The tryout at Green Lake Field was more about testing athletic ability and gauging beauty. The league will be comprised of 10 teams, all with names that look derived from a Spearmint Rhino timesheet. We enjoy games with the L.A. Temptations, New York Euphoria, Dallas Desire, Chicago Bliss, Atlanta Steam, Seattle Mist, Miami Caliente, San Diego Seduction, Tampa Breeze, and Phoenix Scorch. I just keep imagining what these mascots will look like. How do you truly personify a "Seduction"? And I don't even want to know how they're going about the Steam. The players will make $40,000 a year, which really is going to be a huge pay cut for the majority of these ladies, who undoubtedly come from big law firms and investment brokerage firms. PastaJoe replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Good, the media should scrutinize all gov't officials, especially the president. They lost their nerve after 9/11 and were afraid to question the administration about Iraq. Hopefully they've got their spine back, regardless of what party is in power. -

The price of oil, and therefore gas, will go up after the election. Oil production will be cut to drive the price back up. The Saudis already said they would reduce production. -
What scoring system do you use?

Funny arse SNL skit that never aired...
PastaJoe replied to SD Jarhead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It was funny but a bit too over-the-top, they made Bush seem too stupid and Barney Frank came off like Harry Carry. The beauty of the Tina Fey-Palin skits are that she can take Palin's words and delivery almost verbatum and show how ridiculous she is. -
What happened to all the conservative support? Literally beaten by a dog. “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” was barking up the right tree with movie-goers, who put the Disney comedy at No. 1 for the weekend with a $29 million debut, according to studio estimates Sunday. Vivendi Entertainment’s “An American Carol,” a satire of Hollywood’s liberal politics from director David Zucker (“Airplane!”), debuted at No. 9 with $3.8 million. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27036724/

Al Ribeiro, until now McCain's Michigan state director, had the unenviable task of sending out an email to Republicans in the state explaining as delicately as possible why they were pulling out. "With 30 days before the election, the campaign must decide where it can best utilize its limited resources with the goal of winning nationally and ensuring John McCain is our next President,' Ribiero explained in an message Saturday, adding that McCain hadn't given up on the state and urging activists to keep working. One county chair wasn't buying -- and he let Ribiero and a large list of other Michigan Republicans know in a scalding email reply. "If you are going to end visits to the state by McCain/ Palin, do it," urged Jack Waldvogel, Chairman of the Emmet County GOP in a message obtained by Politico. "Just don't formally announce that you are 'pulling out' of Michigan, and then come back two days later asking the base core of support to 'keep working.' What a slap in the face to all the thousands of people who have been energized by the addition of Sarah Palin to the ticket. I've been involved in County Party politics and organization for 40 years, and this is the biggest dumbass stunt I have ever seen." Waldvogel added later in the message: "He has given up on our State? What a total and complete crock of crap. Again, I think McCain owes the Republicans and the People of Michigan a HUGE APOLOGY. SOON!" "How on earth are we to get people to work for McCain here, when he has already, publicly, in the media, given up on Michigan?" wondered Waldvogel. "We feel abandoned, we are disappointed, and we are heartsick to know that we aren't important enough for him to fight for." http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/

By aggressive, they mean try to get people to believe he's a radical black Muslim community organizer who will take away the white women and your little dog too. But don't be too obvious about it. Annnnd begin...... "We see America as the greatest force for good in this world," Palin said at a fund-raising event in Colorado, adding, "Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country." Palin made similar comments later at a rally in Carson, California. Palin cited an article in Saturday's New York Times about Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, now 63. But that article concluded that "the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called 'somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.' " Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan called Palin's comments "offensive" and "not surprising given the McCain campaign's statement this morning that they would be launching Swift Boat-like attacks in hopes of deflecting attention from the nation's economic ills."

I don't have the transcript, but earlier this week O'Reilly was screaming on the radio about Rush Limbaugh and other right wing talking heads about their opposition to the bailout. Maybe he lost alot of stock value and is pissed at everybody.
