FINDLAY, Ohio (CNN) –- In an interview posted online Wednesday, Sarah Palin told Dr. James Dobson of “Focus on the Family” that she is confident God will do “the right thing for America” on Nov. 4. Dobson asked the vice presidential hopeful if she is concerned about John McCain’s sagging poll numbers, but Palin stressed that she was “not discouraged at all.” “To me, it motivates us, makes us work that much harder,” she told the influential Christian leader, whose radio show reaches tens of millions of listeners daily. “And it also strengthens my faith because I know at the end of the day putting this in God’s hands, the right thing for America will be done, at the end of the day on Nov. 4.” She also thanked her supporters — including Dobson, who said he and his wife were asking “for God’s intervention” on election day — for their prayers of support. “It is that intercession that is so needed,” she said. “And so greatly appreciated. And I can feel it too, Dr. Dobson. I can feel the power of prayer, and that strength that is provided through our prayer warriors across this nation. And I so appreciate it.” http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the U.S. may be vulnerable to a terrorist attack during the next six months, with violent groups more likely to try to take advantage of a new president and administration. ``Any period of transition creates a greater vulnerability, meaning there's more likelihood of distraction,'' Chertoff said in an interview. ``You have to be concerned it will create an operational opportunity for terrorists.'' He said that would be true whether Democrat Barack Obama or Republican John McCain is elected president on Nov. 4. That comment undercuts McCain's argument that the U.S. would be more in danger of an attack if Obama, 47, wins. Chertoff said not all threats the U.S. faces are physical. As head of the administration's effort to secure the government's computer networks, Chertoff said technicians are upgrading the so-called Einstein protection system to detect and disrupt cyber attacks. Currently, the system can detect hacking only after it has occurred. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...;refer=politics

RNC pays $150K for Palin shopping
PastaJoe replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Technically a campaign isn't a paying job for the candidate or their family, so it is personal use. They're using it to get a job. Are we allowed to write off buying a suit for a job interview? -
RNC pays $150K for Palin shopping
PastaJoe replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use. Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs. Spokeswoman Maria Comella declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, including whether it was necessary to spend that much and whether it amounted to one early investment in Palin or if shopping for the vice presidential nominee was ongoing. A review of similar records for the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee turned up no similar spending. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html -
McCain should have considered the implications of voting with Bush 90% of the time, and presenting Bush-like policies regarding Iraq, corporate tax breaks, and the economy. Bush isn't running, but his policies are as offered by McCain.

Obama gets discredited as a socialist
PastaJoe replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I heard someone say that he's gone from being a social conservative to being a conservative socialist. -
I think it's more likely an NHL team would relocate to Kansas City. They just built a new arena, it doesn't have a major occupant, and they want to bring in an NHL or NBA team. The Penguins were considering moving there before they got an agreement for a new arena.

If Palin was a Democrat - Would she get as much sh*t
PastaJoe replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If she said "I don't support abortion, but I think women have the right to decide for themselves" as a Republican, she would never have been chosen because the Republicans would have focused on "women have the right to decide for themselves". Ask Rudy, Tom Ridge, or Liebermann. -
Jesse Jackson on Obama

Is there something wrong with trying to repair relations with Muslims, and using his personal experience of knowing how stereotypes can lead to mischaracterizing people? -
I'm waiting for Republicans to complain that this immigrant dog will be taking away the job of being a pet that could go to an American dog that is at the ASPCA.

Powell specifically said that if it was just about him supporting a black candidate, he could have done it months ago. He said he wanted to evaluate both men and how they acted and reacted to events, and how they acted during the financial crisis a couple weeks ago was the clincher. I guess some of you still see him as a black general and black sec. of state, not just a general and sec. of state.

But pick 29 will be from us swapping 1st round picks and giving up our 2010 1st round pick to the Titans for Vince Young.

Colin the General may endorse Obama
PastaJoe replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Barack HUSSAIN Obama is black?! OMG, I thought he was Arab! Listening to the McCain/Palin rallies is so confusing. -
When is McCain going to come clean about deciding to stay in Vietnam when he could have left? Why should we believe his version of the story? Did he stay to get further indoctrination for the day he would become the Manchurian Candidate? His daily association with Communists needs to be further explained. The silly stuff can work both ways, it's just that McCain has decided it's more important to distract with accusations without proof, while Obama is focusing on the relevant issues.

Colin the General may endorse Obama
PastaJoe replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm a rabid extremist? I've never questioned Powell's credentials. If anything, I questioned his decision to not speak up more or resign when he realized he was being used by Bush/Cheney to push the Iraq war, instead of waiting for the end of the 1st term. -
Retired Gen. Colin Powell, once considered a potential running mate for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), now may endorse his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), according to Republican sources. But an air of mystery surrounds Powell's planned live appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," and no one is sure what he will say. Powell’s unassailable national security credentials could sway voters who are vacillating about whether Obama is ready to be commander in chief, and his endorsement of the Illinois senator would make a national security emphasis by McCain in the election's closing days extremely difficult. Powell, 71, a professional soldier for 35 years, has advised the last three Republican presidents. The general’s camp is being coy about what he might or might not say on Sunday. But some McCain advisers suspect, without being sure, that Powell will endorse Obama. “It’s going to make a lot of news, and certainly be personally embarrassing for McCain," a McCain official said. "It comes at a time when we need momentum, and it would create momentum against us.” http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14665.html

If it's "obviously dishonest", then when are you or McCain going to present the voters with the documented proof that you all have that supports your statements of some close connections and relationships? Otherwise you're just doing the same thing that Dan Rather was accused of doing to Bush.

I laugh whenever I hear someone say, "He has not adequately explained why he used such despicable people and organizations to begin with". Basically what they're saying is that they don't like the explainations that have been given because they undermine their arguments, and won't be happy until the explainations equal their predetermined conclusions.

Bob the Builder has just endorsed McCain/Palin. Barney the Dinosaur is withholding his endorsement until Palin clarifies allegations that she accused dinosaurs of eating humans.

Joe The Plummer Is Mad As Hell!
PastaJoe replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
All his answers to followup questions show who he supports. He also said that he wants to privatize Social Security and thought McCain won the debate. He's free to think what he wants, but it's obvious who he supports. Why not just come out and say it. Palin is already using him in her stump speech. By the way, the average plumber nationally makes about $45k a year. So if he's anywhere except in the extreme high end of that group, he would get a tax cut under Obama. -
