WHEN WILL DONTE WHITNER MAKE A PLAY
cantstopbeastmode replied to TheBlackMamba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd like some of the people in this thread to check out my thoughts in another thread that I started about our DB's. Let me know what you think. Thanks. -
I don't think you guys understand exactly why whitner/simpson aren't "playmakers." So, let me explain... Instead of bitching about whitner not being a playmaker, how about you try understanding exactly what our defense is trying to accomplish? In about 90% of our arizona/miami/chargers plays, we ran the simple cover 2 scheme, with the exception of corners playing about 8 yards off the ball, who knows why???. SAFETIES DEEP, 4 man rush, lbs cover middle zones, and corners cover the sidelines. Now that I've explained that, it is easy for people to understand why whitner/simpson aren't making the big, ballhawking plays. Fewell/Jauron have decided at some point that they are best off telling donte/ko to just sit back there and be conservative SAFETIES. Fewell really uses that term literally. As to the CBs, Fewell inexplicably tells them to get about 8 yards off the ball, and keep everything in front of them. In theory, it makes sense keeping everything in front of you, but not when teams take advantage of that literally all game long, like warner, rivers, and pennington did. When we get no pass rush(which is every time we dont blitz), it forces everything to look easy, and it makes quarterbacking against us very easy, especially compared to teams like the giants. How could Warner have possibly thrown a pick to whitner? He had all day to pick apart our defense, and as a professional, thats what he did. Now, pretty much every DB has taken some heat from you guys, with the exception of greer. Well, its not their individual problem that they arent making plays, it is the problem of the coaching ideas. If we sit in one play all game, then yeah, teams will pick us apart. Yeah, Leodis's coverage won't be amazing looking if hes sitting in a soft zone. If you want McKelvin/Whitner to go and make big plays, then take it up with Fewell. Tell him to let our two TOP PICKS do their things. Let leodis get in man coverage, see what he can do. Let Whitner roam around a little more, and leave the deep ball a little more open. Look at what happened on Greer's INT, he followed his MAN across the field and made an individual play. With all of that said, I completely disagree with Fewell's strategies, I actually think that they directly cost us the arizona game, almost cost us the san diego game, and in part cost us the Miami game. He really needs to grow a set of balls and trust our HIGHLY DRAFTED, TALENTED PLAYERS to make plays. Until he does that, smart qbs will pick us apart all game long. BUT, don't start taking shots at the individual players for their "shortcomings." I'm sure it wouldn't take too long for whitner to get a pick if he played on the giants or the packers, or for mckelvin to get one playing on the chargers. But, they play for the bills, where we run the same unsuccessful play all game long. And just to make it clear, we still can improve, I'm not one of those people saying we'll be 5-11. We really should rock the jets this week, but we do need to fix the problems I mentioned above. By the way, if your main memories of whitner are chasing higgins and ginn, then you must edit out all the tackles he's made when you're watching your film. He has more important tackles than anyone on our defense, outside of paul. So turn the tape back on and watch the games, and get back to me. Whitner can play, don't doubt that whatsoever. He's every bit as important to this defense as paul or anyone else. Thoughts?

The way I see it.... What you have to do is BLITZ AND COVER SHORT. Of course if you blitz and then have your cover guys play deep, they can quick hit the middle of the field(as we all saw today). If you blitz and cover short, your taking the risk that they wont hit a bomb. What are the odds of warner stepping into a blitz and hitting a deep route? Slim to none. Honestly, if theyre trying to beat a blitz, they may not even have anyone running deep, basically making our deep safety coverage irrelevant. Just look at when we blitzed on 3rd and 13 or whatever it was. If we had blitzed then covered short, we most likely would have tackled him, instead of having nobody near him. On a side note, did anyone watch Pittsburgh play Jacksonville? Jacksonville needed a TD drive to come back and win, but they couldn't get anything together, because Garrard was getting rushed wayyyy too much and also didn't have anyone short open to bail him out. DING DING DING. I really can't tell if Fewell notices this or not. I get the feeling he does, but he loses confidence in all backups, or against good teams. Hence us having us resort to a last-year style defense when playing without mcgee, also while playing against the best passing team we've played yet. Basically, I think he gets thinking, "Oh sh--, I need Jabari and Leo to cover Fitz and whoever, and since that will never happen, I'll have them play 8 yds off the ball and have paul and kawika and youboty help them cover, instead of using them to blitz warner." The problem here is that although he's fundamentally correct, warner is too damn good to just let him do what he wants all afternoon. The only way to beat him is to trust Jabari and Leodis and see what happens when you have Paul and Kawika in Kurt's face. The way I see it, until Dick and Perry figure this out, we're in for a long year when we play good passing teams. As the giants showed, you dont beat a good team by watching them, you beat a good team by attacking them. So far, from what I've seen, the bills watch the good teams too much, and the only times it pays off is when Romo throws the ball directly to george wilson for tds.

Tom Brady article in Esquire

Right on. Can't blame them for being better. Hopefully Trent even gets a chance to do that kind of thing this year... -

So you guys would rather the Bills fail than their qb gets hurt? Makes you guys sound like your wives moreso than hardcore football fans. -

I want the Bills to win. Period. If that means having a teamful of thugs or having guys get hurt, then so be it. -

I am taking a lot of heat for being honest. Jeez. I dont even want to address all of them. Basically, I do understand grammar, i just dont bother using it to talk to random ppl. If a guy getting hurt benefits the team, shouldn't you want it to happen as a fan? And of course 1 half of a preseason game cant turn a guy from sh------- to awesome, but he has now shown the potential that he can and should be a good starter, which he didnt before. You werent trying to be tough by completely and purposely missing the point in a sarcastic way? Or was it an attempt at humor? -

You missed the point. Job well done being a sarcastic !@#$ though. Proving your toughness through a message board is really cool. -

I'll take this sentence by sentence: It does not make me an idiot for wanting trent to get hurt because: 1.) he was starting and i thought he was second best on the team 2.) jauron would not change his decision whether or not he actually thought JP was better I have football knowledge because: 1.) Regardless of whether or not this is Trent's second year, he is the starting qb of this team, and we all expect playoffs. Making excuses for the guy will not help us get to the playoffs, 2nd year or not. So basically, your the !@#$ing idiot without football knowledge. Before trying to sound like a hardass, learn football. Please explain to me how any of my points were wrong now. I am anxiously awaiting your response. Disclaimer: Everything above were my thoughts before. I now think that Trent definitely looks like a starter. -
For all of my negative comments toward Trent thus far in his career. Tonight he looks amazing, nothing like I've ever seen out of the guy before. Forget what I said about him getting hurt please.

My challenge to Edwards tonight

Hey man, I'm a bills fan in general. If I think it helps the team for the #1 qb to get hurt, then so be it. I wanna see them do well, and if that means trent has to get hurt then that means trent has to get hurt. -

I hope trent gets hurt. JP is better. Just sayin. BTW i hope trent proves me wrong cuz hes gonna be the qb either way -
Alright. All I'm saying is, dont tell me not to be a fan because I'm not satisfied with trent playing like a bum.

Got the worst draft position possible... #1.
cantstopbeastmode replied to stevestojan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm thinking out of the box, but it should work. I say go Brady first, and your QB position will be set for good, and you will have the highest scoring player in your league, by far. 3-4 tds and 300-350 yds a week are pretty much guaranteed. Then, as you said, at 28-29, the RBs will be real thin. Take 2 WRs! Say you could land guys like Housh and Boldin, your team would be in awesome shape. Sure, your rbs would suck, but something had to suck, why not rbs? I mean its either take 2 average rbs at 28-29, or take 2 stud wrs. Then, when rds 4-5 come around, go with the best value. I've always gone with the 2 RB theory, and it sucks. I'd get stuck with guys like mcgahee or shaun alexander or lt, and they just dont put up numbers week in, week out. -
You are being a trent apologist!!!! Thats the point... Can we say that trent sucked the other day? Yes. Can we say that JP looked better than trent the other day? Yes. Does that mean that we should have no hope for the season? Hell no. It really isnt a problem to me that some people find the way our starters play as bad. I thought so myself. I don't know how anyone could have possibly found it as good. It looked just like every other game I've watched from the Bills the past few years. We get the opening kickoff fumbled to us, we have a gift-wrapped red zone trip, and our new toy(Hardy), and we don't take advantage of it whatsoever, we kick another effing field goal. I also saw a 3rd and 11 i think it was, and trent threw it to the flats, while hardy had a 1 on 1. What is the point of getting the guy if you don't trust him in 1 on 1's with guys 4-5 inches shorter than him? What I noticed when JP came in the game, was him trusting Roscoe and trusting Hardy, and it paying dividends. We had our only drive that went for a TD, as well as a good 20 yd gain or so to Roscoe. And for those of you who think all Losman can do is throw deep, I do remember him throwing it about 5 yds on the bootleg play, and that worked just as well as if trent did it. I'm not saying that Trent isn't or never could be as good as JP, because, as you guys have mentioned, it was 2 drives for the guy. But, with what we saw in those two drives, trent sucked. Thats the bottomline, and thats what has fans like me worried. As far as your comment that the whiny bills fans should turn in their fan equipment, that just proves that your not a !@#$ing fan yourself. I give a sh-- about this team, and sh------- efforts from them piss me off. If they dont piss you off, then how can you consider yourself a fan? I want my new team with Hardy, McKelvin, Stroud, Johnson, Mitchell, Poz, and Simpson back to show some new improvements, not look like the same sh------- team. I want too see these expectations that everyone is putting on them come true. What I don't want is any more !@#$ing excuses. Yes, it was just 2 drives. IT STILL SUCKED! 2 DRIVES OR 20 DRIVES, IT STILL SUCKED! I get myself all hyped up for this season, and what do I get? The same exact sh--. Now please mr. hit and marshawn, explain to me how the same exact mediocracy can have you satisfied?

Someone please explain the Roscoe Parrish lovefest
cantstopbeastmode replied to Adam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stop making comments dude. We can all tell you're wrong about Whitner. I'm the most negative guy on this board when it comes to trent and jauron, but you're dead wrong on whitner. He had difficulty covering tight ends? Really? Find me one single play last year when he was in man coverage on a tight end? Watch half of his hits in the pats game and bengals game last year and tell me if he's a hard hitter. I don't remember him overpursuing anything, and even if he did, he kind of has to with nobody else making tackles... Basically, watch the games if your gonna make comments. -
I've been saying that all along. Its not even close. If McGee didn't have a big name from his kick return abilities then people wouldn't think he was such an awesome player.
-
How the hell can you blame someone for that? You love a team, but they consistently fail. Sounds like something worth whining about. Are you pleased with the losing records and overall weak teams????
-
Right on dude. I'm right there with ya. I think Jauron is the biggest idiot on the planet, nonetheless I'm a huge fan. Being stuck in the middle sucks balls.
-
I agree with you that peters deserves more, but this point of your argument sucks. Matt Ryan is making more than Brady and Manning, but you don't see them bitching. Rookie salaries are f'd up in general and comparing them to veteran salaries isnt comparing apples to apples.
-
Haven't been there in a while to define expensive, but that's what my friends say. Probably like 15 for a pizza, 20 max. As far as huge, enough toppings so you can't see the cheese and the slices are thick and filling. I'm sure some other people are more familiar with the place than I am.
-
I live right in hamburg, and I think you guys are overrating nino's. Between everyone I've talked to just about ever that has had both edie's and nino's, edie's wins. Side note on bozannas: its really expensive, but they give you unbelievable amounts of toppings, and the pizzas are huge. Truly a man's pizza.

Anyone here had Edie's? Its on Buffalo St. across from Charlaps kinda in the village of Hamburg. I absolutely love the place and I absolutely love pizza. Also Bella is really good on South Park in Blasdell.
