Florio thinks the Bills will make a run at Vick
SuperKillerRobots replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be pissed and would probably egg his house or throw a battery at him. F Vick! -

I see what you're saying - I was in the draft Brown camp when we were on teh clock for #42 - but the more I think about it, the less I'm a fan of trying to re-do 40% of a position. If they take Maybin and Brown, they still have Schobel, Kelsey, Denney, Ellis, and Bryan. We can throw Bryan out right away and we still have 6 total. Who gets cut? Kelsey, obviously? Maybe not. He seems most likely to me and I'm sure we don't need to get into why. The problem as I see it is that these two DEs we drafted are both considered undersized and likely are not able to play on running downs effectively. That leaves Ellis (unknown), Denney and Schobel for obvious running situations. I don't know how comfortable I would feel with them in there on 3rd and 1. I don't even know if I would feel that great about Schobel coming out for Johnson on the outside, especially considering it's usually not as simple as 3rd and 1. Granted, 3rd adn 15 would be pretty scary against us with whatever combo they put ont he field. The other thing that occurred to me was that the FS we got could be a solid player and help us get some INTs/Fumbles. He was a four year starter at CB, had good ball skills, is a "student of the game", and was known to play the run well. That sounds like a guy I want playing in the backfield. Maybe moreso than a small DE from a school known to "bust" them out (pun intended).

Hargrove Signed By Saints
SuperKillerRobots replied to LynchMob23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man, if I had know he had 11 people in his head - I would have been all for re-signing him. More crazies, less Kelsey's. -
I don't know about him getting cut. Our ST coach is the assistant HC and probably has more say over the bottom 8 guys on the roster than anyone else in the organization. Couple that with the fact that Wendling is solely a ST player and one of April's favorites (he plays in all 4 phases of ST), he will msot certainly be on the team for game one. I would think it's going to be either him or Ko, and if that is the decision I don't think many people would get the outcome wrong.

First Contract and Out
SuperKillerRobots replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on man, don't you know? It's right after the "do you shoot people while you're not playing football" question and right before the "how many pro bowls can you guarantee making in your career" question. -
Help- Pisa AND Mitchell are.....
SuperKillerRobots replied to bflobarry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do they flip? - based on what? The 5 technique is the DE, right? -

Tim, any idea on which one lines up overr the TE and which over the weak side of the formation generally? Or do they just switch? -

All right - just looked at the roster and apparently we did have a guy named Vince Hall. My bad. -

Who the hell is Vince Hall? Don't we have a Bruce Hall? Maybe he can get back to what he does best: rock out http://www.brucehall.net/ -
Winfield at contract impasse with Vikings
SuperKillerRobots replied to buffalopdc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the thing that gets overlooked with CBs is that when you have a stellar pass rush, you don't need all-pro CBs, but that doesn't mean you can have bad CBs. Pass rush plays a huge role in this, but can without a DB who can read the QB and make plays on the ball. Out of the teams you listed, the Giants have the worst backfield of the three. They have a pass rush/front 7 that no other team in the league has. Outside of them, the Colts have decent DBs as do the Steelers. Not to mention, when Winfield left here, I don't seem to remember too many people saying that was a bad move. He was decent, but for the contract he wanted, you would have expected hi to intercept passes and not get the ball thrown over his head inside the red zone. When I think of his time here, the dropped INTs and burns in the red zone stand out. -
who did us worse, TDonohue or Marv 2nd incarnation?
SuperKillerRobots replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've always wondered: Everyone here talks about Polian like he's untouchable - everything he does turns to gold. I have to ask the question though, what would Indy look like or have looked like if he had never got Manning? Not even to say that he got Leaf instead, but what if they picked 3rd or 4th that year? Myabe one win or even strength of schedule got them into position to have one of those players and he got the right one. That deserves credit, but is that what really happened? I mean he did have other good picks, but are Harrison and Wayne as good as they are without Manning? I'm not saying that Polian isn't a great GM, but I wonder sometimes if his job was a lot easier the day after he drafted Manning and I also wonder how good he is once Manning retires. I just think he might be a bit overrated. (ducks beer bottle thrown from far corner) -
Another reason why our coaching staff is stupid
SuperKillerRobots replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, if years past are any indication, they will never run a spread offense or go no-huddle this year after making that anouncement. It seems like every offseason the coaching staff has all these ideas about how we are going to play and improve through scheme and then we show up game one playing some variation of the same thing: crap football. Maybe it's a double-secret smokescreen. Our division will have all their players running wind sprints to make sure their in shape and then we come out and run the ball down their throats after they spent all training camp getting in better shape and lighter. -
Rams released LB Pisa Tinoisamoa
SuperKillerRobots replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was under the impression that in the Tampa-2 defense, the WLB and SLB positions were opposite of the conventional systems. Meaning basically that Mitchell was the WLB and Ellison played SLB. Crowell was the SLB last offseason and would have started the season that way had he not been on IR. I thought I read that when Crowell as put on IR that they would not switch Mitchell over to the SLB spot because he couldn't cover as well. Is this just an arguement of semantics, or is there really a difference? I was under the impression that in our defense you want a SLB who can cover the TE and stand up against the run, while the WLB is always the free man on every play, as long as all the players play their gaps correctly. I believe that Briggs plays SLB in Chicago. Can someone clarify for me? -
That's what I'd think they'd do as well - keep that right side together and make the rookies earn it.

Is Ed Kilgore on crack or just a moron?
SuperKillerRobots replied to sharper802's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does he have an editor? Crap like this is why people are affraid of real newspapers going out of business. I gotta wonder if he even watches football or pays attention to teams besides the Bills. -
You missed a good one.
-
He would technically have had to play for more than one team in his career to be called a journeyman, right?
-
Your list is stupid. None of those players will be cut. 1. Cut Whitner so you have a rookie and journeyman starting at the safety positions opening day!? Not tomention this would mean you'd keep Ko instead of Dante!? 2. Butler was the best o-linemen last year. Who starts if he's cut? 3. Kelsey has probably the best chance out of the bunch of getting cut and I'm pretty sure he starts at DE on opening day. 4. Roscoe would get traded before he got cut. How about these guys for surprise cuts: 1. McCargo, and they decide to keep 6 DEs. 2. Bryan Scott, if they decide to keep Ko 3. Hamdan, new blood 4. Pat Thomas, if they feel they are OK with the trio of 5th and 6th round picks at SLB
-
That's the only player on the list that I would even consider. Most of those players haven't been signed because they want to sign with a team that they feel will not cut them in training camp. We are not that team since we have good depth across the roster, but few impact players. Winborn is a player I'd look at, but they signed Pat Thomas instead. Why would you even bother signing vets to be camp fodder and then cut. Like it or not, the reality of the situation is that Nic Harris, Bowen, and Ellison are the competition at SLB. One, two, or all three of them will be seeing game-day time at that position.

*Pats 3rd round pick tears ACL
SuperKillerRobots replied to cantankerous's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And without signing a contract. Be interesting to find out what they actually pay that guy. I wanted the Bills to draft him to replace Ellison, but I guess it works out. Also, for what it's worth, this injury will affect the Patriots just about as much as the Ace Bowen (the "Compliance Linebacker") injury hurt us last year. -
