  1. They're different players.
  2. You'd need to re-calibrate the "end-o-meter" for those two, but Schobel is definitely better than Burgess.
  3. "...and a force in 2010 and beyond."!? Man, wouldn't that be sweet.
  4. The classic Sam Gash-type FB is dead in football. The only FBs who are doing anything now are the ones that can catch out of the backfield and pass protect. The blocking FB isn't worth enough to take up the roster spot. I think part of it actually is that RBs can more easily make their reads without the FB and aren't used to it, since so many college programs runt he spread. If you want a shifty rookie RB to play right away, he'll be better in single-back, behind two TEs rather than a FB. That's just not going to happen. They'll keep five DEs this year, with Johnson as the 6th.
  5. Isn't it against the law on this board to promote your own web sites? Your username is part of the URL for the link! It's not like Tim Graham links to his blog on ESPN when he posts.
  6. That should be a reality show: Out of work ex-football players who squandered their money trying to assimilate back into real life.
  7. I think they are focusing on their positive attributes as opposed to the negative ones. Everyone has positives, it's just to what degree are they positives. These rankings are more telling in the comparative listings they give the players vs the actual grade. Who cares whether their "highly-rated" or not, just where they are in relation to other players int he league. It is possible that there aren't a lot of good safeties in the league for Whitner.
  8. I can't understand why everyone thinks McIntyre makes the team! Has he done anything in camp? Does the offense even use the fullback anymore? Not to mention, wasn't this guy's specialty on ST was as the "wedge buster", if I remember correctly and we certainly don't need that anymore. John wendling will make the team because the new ST rules dictate having more mobile blockers, which he certainly is. Chris Ellis will make it because we need DE help in anyway we can get it. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Corto make the team as the 7th LB/Josh Stamer memorial spot.
  9. That's easy: start running the ball 35 to 40 times a game. That would be fine with me.
  10. I actually don't mind your opinions on the Bills. I think you have to have the varying opinions to keep everyone honest. Sometimes you do go a little overboard with the post topics. What really bugs the hell out of me is when you post something absurd and ridiculous and then quote yourself and answer, usually before anyone else posts on it. Also, you have a way of taking over the thread once you start posting in it. If you really want to respond to all those people, you could keep it to one post. Aside from that, I'm fine with whatever you post about the Bills. It's completely understandable that fans show their support for the Bills in varying ways. Some people want to see the positive behind the team, others look at the negative. Some people are jaded by all the years of losing while some feel like they should be hopeful (positive energy). The thing is that rarely is anyone right. You can back up all of your assertions with whatever statistics you can find, but one thing that seems obvious is that no one gets it right. For this reason some people just shut the hell up, hope for the best, and try not to stick their foot in their mouth before the season even starts.
  11. Or just too big a risk to take on a bad QB. Vick was on his way out in the last season he played. He could never throw the ball very accurately and doesn't seem to see the field very well. I also don't think he was much of a leader or smart guy. I agree that he isn't going to start full time at QB - probably ever again.
  12. I first thought that they were going to leave the right side alone and then try to get a stop gap player in to bridge the gap to Bell (i.e. Chambers). I never thought they'd actually sign a Levi Jones, but thought they'd go for continuity. Instead it seems like they went with the "let's get the best five guys on the field" approach. I wonder how long it takes until D. Bell gets in and somebody take a seat like in 06 when Peters moved to LT halfway through the season.
  13. Bills fans, I think we have the beginnings of a nickname...
  14. I think the no-huddle will work great for this team, as long as they run out of it. The most successful part of this offense is when you can line up and run the ball two or three times without letting the defense substitute or really rest. Make them stay in their stances while Trent surveys the field. Also they really have to be careful to not rush the snaps ona regular basis. Anytime you can catch the d off guard, that works to do a quick snap, but if the defense is ready for the play, it's more productive for the offense to sit at the line and wait until the clock runs down. Furthermore, I think that going with a limited playbook for the no-huddle, which is probably what they'll start out with, will benefit the offensive personnel, since there are a lot of new faces and younger guys. As far as the coaching staff talking about the use of the no-huddle and allowing defensive coordinators time to plan against it, I think it is necessary. First of all, even if they weren't going to use it at all, it would be a competitive advantage to say they were going to, to provide the preverbial red-harring for the opposing defensive coordinators to worry about. Kind of like what we are doing witht he wildcat this year. Maybe we see that in a game (with Roscoe as QB) a handful of times this year, but defensive coordinators will have to be ready for it in case we decide to use it. This wastes their prep time during the week. The no-huddle does the same thing. They probably figured that they want to use it and use the threat of it. All of the talking about the no-huddle this early makes me think that they are not going to use it against New England as their primary plan. Maybe if they are doing terrible and need a spark, they switch to it, but they probably would rather see them have to prepare for it more and prepare less for other, less obvious changes from last year. The thing is that even if we kept the same offense from last year, it's going to be new to everyone, since we have two real outside WRs. That might be enough in and of itself to give defensive coordinators fits.
  15. Maybe we should have them both fight to the death for title of "board insider".
  16. Exactly - every coach who speaks out in the media with "good" quotes ends up putting his foot in his mouth. I couldn't care if they never let DJ out of his office at OBD and had a recording of his bland quotes played on loop for the press conference. What really matters is what none of us fans will ever hear and that's how he talks to the players and coaches the players. Fans talk about how he doesn't seem to motivate the players, but again, how the hell do you know? I know my boss is a lot different in front of our team as opposed to being in front of a room full of people above her. I would expect the same thing with DJ. He just knows that what gets said in front of the media is basically meaningless, thus the meaningless drivel that comes out of his pressers.
  17. Only if we win the Super Bowl this year.
  18. That's how f-ed up this whole thing is. You get a guy who has a gun in his trunk, receives probation from the court system, and gets suspended 3 games. Then you have another guy who gets convicted of not only prepetuating a dog-fighting ring, but doing it between state lines (making it a federal and state matter), goes to jail for almost a year, and then gets suspended for 4 games!? Come on. I hope whatever team is dumb enough to sign him fails miserably this year and has to deal with massive distracting protests.
  19. This whole senario should be an interesting case study in o-line play/development. We had a guy who was immensely talented and a physical freak of nature playing left tackle, who we could basically pu on an island with one guy and let the other four work in unison. It never really seemed like the linemen were great friends or that much in sync (as you can see from a few of the sacks they gave up). Part of this might be due to Peters holding out of camp and still not being a vetern who could miss that much time and jump right in or even due to his sort of mild demeaner. The line gets shuffled and the freak gets replaced with more normal human beings with more intelligence, less physical attributes, but a meaner attitude (as a whoel - not Walker specifically). These guys are big and mean, just not as athletic as Peters. Now the question that will hopefully be answered: For o-line play, is it better to have individuals who are amazing players, but are nto necessarily committed to playing with the other guys on the line, or are you better getting five guys who will work together and put in the work as a whole to get better. I gotta think that the five guys working together is going to wind up being a better o-line.
  20. I think it's TO because he alone can make a huge difference to an offense, whereas Moss really needs another weapon in the receiver corps to reach his full potential. Moss is a great player obviously and can do a lot of great things, but he isn't going across the middle to catch many balls. He's a taller Lee Evans and without an effective waepon across from him a lot of what he brings to the table could be taken away with double coverage. TO is a guy who can go up, fight for the ball, come down, break a tackle, then make some YAC. Moss looks like he would get broken if he got hit to hard.
  21. A buddy of mine just came back from there a week ago. He went to a few different places in Western Europe and ended the trip in Dublin. He said it was dirty and expensive (though he had fun) and said the architecture wasn't any better than Buffalo. I've never been myself, so I was wondering what your take on it was.
  22. I've always thought the best price/viewing ratio for seats is in the 300s, between the 30s, between rows 21 and 30 (rows 1 to 20 are even better, but cost a little more). I actually prefer the visitor's side to get a sun tan while watching the game, but in the early part of the season the sun can be brutal.
  23. No - the earliest I see them replacing DJ is 6 games in, but more likely around the bye week after or before week 8.
