I'm interested in seeing what another coaching staff will do with him. He is versital and was playing great against the run until he got hurt (not benched as someone said earlier). He seems like the type of player that would do better in a more attacking style defense than in our current scheme. I'd like to see him at SS for the full year where they allow him to play at the LOS and blitz instead of lining him up at three different positions.

Nix comments on Maybin
SuperKillerRobots replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Somehow I doubt it was that simple and such a clean break. It's easy to say that the guy nobody lies anymore made the bad picks, whiel the enw guiy made the good ones, but in reality they probably all had input on all the selections. I do seem to remember Modrak talking about Maybin a lot in a positive light. For all we know, it was Buddy Nix who made the case to take Maybin and his quote is just more about general draft strategy instead of a knock on that particular pick. -

So why are Modrak & Guy not on the list?
SuperKillerRobots replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Modrak will go anywhere. First of all, he hired Nix last Feb. Second of all, being able to rate and identify talent is one thing, but you could have the greatest talent evaluators in the world, but if the guy actually making the decision doesn't know what they are doing, it makes no difference. -
Channing Crowder going after Jonathan Scott

That is the best quote anyone on the team has had in a while. Looks like a sign that they are coming together. Too bad this didn't happen in training camp. -
I actually think his body-type is closer to that of Jason Taylor. They are both long and slim. It's also way too early to call him a bust.

The major benefit with him though would be that I can't think of another coach who I'd trust more to draft and develop a QB. Too bad we couldn't just hire him to pick and mentor a new QB for a year or two and then get soemone in here who can put a defense together. -

My biggest problem with all of the Shanahan speculation is his defense. I'm all for changing our current defense, but he has been known for having crap teams outside of his offense. $10mil per year doesn't guarantee success and I don't think too many people will be happy about just having a potent passing game and still not makign the playoffs because the defense can't stop ****. Maybe part of the allure for him with our job is that he views our defense as having enought talent to where he can bring in his DC, make a few scheme changes and add a the necessary players, and it's all set. Like changing to a 3-4 and getting some beefier players up front (i.e. an NT and maybe one DE) and feeling OK about the D. We have enough smallish type DEs now to russell up two to play OLD in the 3-4, while Poz and Mitchell play the middle. I would think our secondary is good enough to not have to get mroe of those types, but it would be appropriately ironic if Shanny came here and started drafting DBs. -

What's with all the LEAKS out of OBD?
SuperKillerRobots replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What about the prospect taht when you go after big names who are not part of a team currently, word is just going to get around? There's no coaching change news int he league aside from the Bills and Browns at this point and it looks like we are the ones making the most noise with contacting the big names. The coaches we are contacting are probably not keeping these calls a big secret either. It could just be that we're the first team to try and have serious conversations with these guys and since this isn't normally our MO (to hire an experienced coach) the league is talking and taking note. There aren't many good reasons to leak all these specifics on the coaching candidates fromt he Bills perspective other than to make it look like they are trying, but I think at this point, it's going to take more than trying to get the fan base back into it. I don't think anyone is going to care one bit about who they interview or talk to now if they hire Haslet in January. It's certainly not going to sell more tickets. -
I was talking about comparing Ruff to an NFL coach with my roommate over the past few days. The conclusion I came to is that Lindy Ruff is the Jeff Fisher of the NHL. He's had good seasons and bad. Successful in the playoffs, but never won the big game. If either were let go fromt heir current jobs, they would be hired in a second. Not tomention they've both been in their jobs forever.

No coach will take a job mid-season. Do you really think Mike Shanahan would come in here and run AVP's offense? Or do you think he'd magically teach the offensive players his system in 3 days between games? If anything this was done because no one would even talk to Ralph about being coach if there was still one in place. You have to have a vacancy before you can fill it.

Not to mention, if you cut Pos, you now need one more linebacker, when you could argue we need two already. How many linebackers can you take in one draft and expect to start? Would you cut Pos and re-sign Ellison? One prediction I'll make though on the defensive sid eof the ball is that Kelsey gets a contract extension and doesn't go anywhere. Shanahan has always been high on Kelsey and his play. Always specifically comments on hsi play after we've played them. I could definitely see them trading Schobel under Shanahan, so they can get bigger on defense.

I don't like Shanahan for the Bill's job because of how bad his defenses have been. He has never been able to put together any sort of reliable defense. I think we really need to get a defense together that can dominate. That being said - I'd take Shanahan andf who knows, maybe he will hire a defensive coordinator and let him get some players for the defense.

Everyone saw this coming. The one guy on the roster who was never going to play in a game. EDIT: They got rid of Trent's buddy - I wonder if he cried over it with his sister...

I think the idea was that he would run the business side of the organization as the President of the team (currently a title held by Wilson) and would then have a say in hiring a GM. I don't think he meant that the football decisions would go through him. Also, what makes you think a GM wouldn't report to Brandon? I would venture a guess that pretty much every team has a pencil-pusher (bean-counter if you will) above the GM, who is responsible for signing his checks, overseeing stadium contracts, manging the stadium workforce, and doing projections. The Bills are a multimillion dollar corporation and though most fans only think about the football related guys, there are probably twice as many on the payroll who have what you might call corporate jobs. I think what Sully was trying to get to was that Wilson should have Brandon oversee the Bills instead of him. Not that Brandon should get more power on the football side of things. I don't think he ever was GM - he was just the guy who they threw out there for photo opts. He was one voice in a chorus of concensus. My guess is that DJ had mor esay over personnel than he did.

**** man, you might have to apologize to Jim Caldwell or Sean Payton after one of them wins this year... I could care less who the next coach is - I want a GM (seperate from the coach).
-
Now that's science! I'm pretty sure it's a proven fact that you have to have the second concussion to recover from the first. I read it in a book somewhere once.

So, you're the new guy, with about 30 posts, calling the guy who's been here since 2003 a Pats fan!?!? Come on. By the way, welcome to the board - have a ltitle optomism.

Forbes: The Business of Football

Who are you, Mother Teresa? These teams were essentially worth what hockey teams are now in the 90s. Ralph was bullish on the NFL and values, so he figured that the longer he held on the more he would get from it. Whatever you want to say about the guy and football, one thing is for sure - he is one of the best businessmen in the country. He made a ton of money and stands to make more. If I were him, I'd have my head frozen so i could keep earning more money. -
