I agree and I disagree with you.
I agree that no team should ever take the approach that we need a backup that will NOT challenge for the starting job.
Some people last year thought that Edwards fit that description when drafted, even when experts like myself were telling them otherwise.
They thought he was brought in strictly as Losman's backup.
They weren't paying attention to was going on when they made that assumption.
Or maybe they didn't want to.
Where do I disagree ?
I disagree when you that they should keep Losman.
Why?
For the very reason that they should always look to have a backup who is viable competition for the starting job.
In the 4 years that Losman was here he has proven that he is NOT a viable starter for the BIlls.
What the Bills need is a QB who threatens for the starting job AND has long term potential as their starter.
That means Losman is out of the picture.
If they want competition at QB , the last QB you give that shot to is the same QB that failed to make the grade for four years.
If they cannot feel comfortable extending his contract then they need to move him.
And they will.
