He got fined on his reputation, they even make mention of it in their statement...I just watched it again, I still see nothing at all other than a big hit. If this is on any other player other than the QB this isnt fined...if this was a player with no history of being fined, there is no fine. Case in point, the lack of suspension. With a player with a history of fines any reasonable infraction would have earned him a suspension. This was QUESTIONABLE at best, so they fined him and gave him a warning, a small fine at that.
I still stand by original statement that if you cant handle this hit then go play poweder puff.
Bottom line here...is who the heck gives a ****...my point is this thread is 9 pages long about something that will have ZERO, yes ZERO affect on the Bills season from this point on. I mean Wilson probably doesnt even care...so why on earth is this thread the most talked about thread...geezus...
Congrats on getting your precious fine from the NFL, now our season is saved...ridiculous.
Can we finally kill this pathetic thread?
The NFL just proved it was a dirty hit according to their rules & regulations. Just suck it up and admit you were wrong.

From Buffalorumblings.com: Buffalo still struggling to rush passer in 2008
One of the Buffalo Bills' biggest problems defensively in 2007 was their inability to consistently get pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The Bills finished the 2007 season with just 24 sacks as a team, and as a result, they fielded one of the league's worst defenses (statistically) last season. The defense did enough for the Bills to scratch and claw their way to a 7-9 record, but it was clear that without an improved pass rush, the Bills weren't going to get much better. So the team spent the off-season getting tougher up front, and the impact was immediate - the Bills registered five sacks in a season-opening win over the Seahawks. All was well - newcomers Marcus Stroud and Kawika Mitchell registered three of those sacks, and the Bills' defense dominated, holding the Seahawks to just 10 points. Four games later, however, the Bills have added only five more sacks to that season-opening total, and the team's pass rush woes are resurfacing.

I agree the talk is stupid.
Is Schobel the new twobillsdrive whipping boy now or something?
The sacks will come. Schobel has done plenty this year and has come really close to some sacks and strips.
But then again some people will tell you that Ellis needs to start.

7.5 sacks in 21 games, 1 sack in 5 games this year. The numbers speak for themselves.

Seriously, Swamp D, you're right.

As redickuleious as my spelling may be, what's the point of this? Are you saying it his own fault he got hurt because he jumped. Now who's being reedykuloes. Being hit up high like he was by a safety at full speed, the point is moot because his feet were going to leave the ground in either case do to the force of the hit.
That's reedicueliss!

Bingo!!! Good post
Thanks!!!

Maybe, the answer to Schobel's problem is that he needs a dominating DE to compliment him. I always felt that Schobel was a great complimentary DE to a better, more dominating DE (Like Phil Hansen was to Bruce Smith). I know we got spoiled with Bruce Smith, but we need to get someone who can get more pressure to the QB than Schobel, Kelsay & Denney. Those 3 guys have 1 sack each this year, we need more production from them.

I think so too. It truly does help that SD has to play NE on a sunday night while we rest, and then travel across the country. I hope those 2 teams beat the snot out of eachother.
I agree, and I hope the Chargers win that one vs the Pats.
-
The comparison to Bruce Smith was goofy. Judging by that standard most of the DE's in the league suck and are overpaid.
You can talk about "after the season" all you want. Going into the bye at 4-1, I personally am not willing to give up and walk away from the current campaign.
One thing I can't get over here is how in some people's heads players are a static, unchanging commodity, meaning a player can never improve. Because Gandy didn't cut it with Buffalo, he obviously sucks and will always suck, therefore Schoebel sucks because he couldn't get pressure against Gandy. It is not possible that Gandy had a good game, or even had some familiarity with Schoebel from being on the same team that helped him.
After 5 games, Schobel has 1 sack. Let's see how many sacks in another 5 games, then we'll revisit the question.

Definitely when I was born.....It's tough to find time to work on it when I am laying pipe in Mrs. Jerry Jabber so often
Nice fantasy, it's time to wake up now nibblenuts (which is exactly what you do).
-
He tore everyone up numbnutz
Except the Giants liverlips! And Brady got lucky against the Ravens, if it wasn't for their boneheaded defensive coordinator calling a last second time out, the ravens would've won too.
-
What are you talking about? I am talking about Reuben Brown
Were you born a dumb ass, or did you have to work on it?
-
Chicken Little ought to be our mascot; everytime the team has a bad game the blew birds come out of their holes and say "I told you so! I know more than the coaches do!" Then they run to Talk Radio like professional "wrestlers" to steriods.
I've been saying our pass-rush has been lacking for a few years now. Our DE's have a combined 3 sacks in 5 games played this year.
The holes on this team have been getting smaller every year, but there are still holes. If you give a good QB time to throw, he will tear up your defense, like when Brady tore us up twice last year, and Warner did on Sunday.
-
wow.....give me a break!
Best run blocker we have had in the last 10 years.....I would GLADLY plop him next to Langston Walker RIGHT NOW!
Your right, Schobel is a very good run blocker, but DE's are also suppose to get pressure on the QB, not just run block. For $7 million a year, he needs to do both.
-
I think you have something against white defensive lineman.....BIGOT!
You're funny!!!!!! Did you think of that one by yourself?! -
Every team lays an egg or two during the season. Even our beloved teams of the 90's laid an egg during their time. I'm glad this loss will linger on them for 2 weeks, maybe we'll see a fired up Bills team vs the Chargers.
-
Well... consider it their wake up call then...
But... I still think this D does not have the talent... especially in the middle and the one OLB... no LB depth at all... except DiGiorgio. Stroud has not lived up to his billing.
I don't blame Stroud, he can't play DT & DE at the same time. He's been doing his job of plugging up the middle. Our DE's only have 3 sacks combined in 5 games, that's horrible.
-
My guess, and its just a guess, but you're gonna be unhappy with his play for a few more years. Because there's no way he's being traded in the off season.
If that's the case, would Denney or Kelsay get the axe, and we draft a DE in the draft (1st or 2nd round)? I would lean more on Denney getting cut.

Some people that posted on here forgot to read the last part of the topic: "after the season"
I haven't been happy with Schobel's play for 2 years now, and he's not getting the job done. We're stuck with him until the end of the season. So maybe once the season is over with, Bills Brass will try and trade him and get something in return. We could use his salary to get better players who are actually worth $7 million a year.
-
We won't find out if the Safety from the Cards will get fined or suspended until Friday. If the NFL fines/suspends that guy, then we all know it was a dirty hit. If he doesn't get fined/suspended then it wasn't a dirty hit. So we'll all have to wait until the end of the week to see what the ruling is.
-
i dunno dude, imo both feet off the ground = a jump
I think one foot was initially off the ground, but when the safety hit Edwards, it caused both feet to leave the ground. I think Edwards stepped into his throw as much as he could, because he knew he was going to take a hit.
-
We're stuck with Schobel until the end of the year. Maybe at the end of the 2008 season, we can trade and get something in return for him. I don't know who will be available in FA. Will DE be a top priority for us in the draft this year? I would hope so.
Schobel has 1 sack in 5 games played this year, and including the 16 games from last year, he only has 7.5 sacks in 21 games. Those are bad numbers, and are definitely not worth the $7 million a year he is getting.

Hands down, this is one of the most retarded threads ever. Congrats to everyone who contributed.

Here are some stats:
Aaron Schobel
Games played (including 2007-2008): 21
Sacks during that period: 7.5
Sacks through the 1st 5 games: 1
Chris Kelsay
Games played (including 2007-2008): 19
Sacks during that period: 3.5
Sacks through the 1st 5 games: 1
Ryan Denney
Games played (including 2007-2008): 12
Sacks during that period: 2
Sacks through the 1st 5 games: 1
So far, our DE's have only gotten 3 sacks out of 5 games. So is this really a retarded thread? 3 sacks by our DE's, and it's retarded to think we need better DE's? Schobel has 7.5 sacks in 21 games, but it's retarded to think that he's not getting the job done?!
-

Really, another person that thinks our DE's are doing a great job. The only one I see doing anything is Kelsay, that's it. Schobel is NOT worth the money he is getting, if you seriously think he is, than you're the one that's retarded.

Hit on Edwards dirty?
