Patrick Willis is the "perfect" football player. He's the perfect blend of size, speed, smarts, experience, character, work ethic, coachability, and talent. Damn you San Fran! He was supposed to be ours!

What in the world are the Bengals thinking?!

I seem to recall Coach Lewis flatly denying the Begals' interest in Pacman. -
She's a crack dealer. "Angela Bryant was convicted for selling crack cocaine in 1997 and served 18 months in prison." Oh, and she might be a prostitute. "Ireland's question was a follow-up to Bryant saying his father was a pimp and his mother worked for his father." http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/news/story?id=5159981

Yep. Football is a game where a 250lb LB who runs a 4.5 40 collides with a 210lbs RB who runs a 4.3 40. I read somewhere that the average NFL collision is equal to two cars colliding at 35 mph. Some of the hits given out would put the average person in the hosptial. You don't hear about it but a lot of retired players have serious and sometimes debiliating medical problems for the rest of their lives. The NFL and the NFLPA are already under fire for their poor health coverage for retired players, some of whom have dropped dead or are seriously ill at young ages of only 50.

That about sums it up.
-
He looked like a 8-year starter and pro bowler. A real franchise RB. Attitude and off-field problems got in the way and derailed a still-promising career.

I know they wanted to shorten the horrific preseason and lengthen the awesome regular season but we all know that the starters play one of two series, tops, which can be anywhere from 5-15 plays. Plus teams like Indy that clinch 1st round byes early will wind up sitting starters for the remaining four games which will create league-wide discontent for teams fighting for their playoff lives, not to mention boring late season games. College ball is 12 games, the NFL is 16. 18 is too many. The NFL should explore other ideas, like a mid-season all-star break or possibly expanding the playoff field. Although I don't like either of those ideas, lol. To be honest, I love the NFL the way it is and think they should leave well enough alone. It's a great game and a great league.

Looking back three years later, it wasn't a good year. But it it did produce three of the very best defensive players in the league in Willis, Revis and Beason.

Go Bills!

I know what you're saying but we've been a 16-game league since 1978 and the NFL has never been more popular. I'm less concerned about the stats thing and more concerned about the injuries thing. Today's football players are bigger and faster then ever before. Can you imagine having a 10-year career and then walking with a limp the rest of your life from age 35 and on? Or worse, having the recurring symptoms of concussions? Careers would be shortened evern more. The toll of two more games per year on a body adds up fast. It's the equivalent of playing an entire season after eight years of an 18-game season. Every player would lose a year or two off their careers. I stand by my opinion that it's a bad idea.

Sean Payton involved in Drug Scandal
lets_go_bills replied to PistolPeaTear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are an angry man. Take it easy. This "story" is in its infancy right now. And it sounds absurd to me. That's my opinion. Payton has already flatly denied the allegations. And the allegations are unfounded so far. Geez. Not saying he is making this up for sure, but anybody who threatens to blackmail their former employer is sick. Trying to extort money and then "going public" with it because they won't agree to you excessive monetary demands is wrong. Can't you see how disgusting that is? -
Troup was one of the better NT prospects. There were better DTs, but Troup was the best true 3-4 NT, which is what we needed. It was smart to grab him there and not wait until later. Troup is a big, thick and strong kid who is a run stuffer. That was what we needed. we needed to fill out our new 3-4 D line with the right players. Not every team is a 3-4 so they rate players differently. A team with a need at NT would have Troup rated high. TE isn't a big need. This team is high on Nelson's potential and talent. Gronkowski would've been a nice pick because of the WNY connection, but he didn't fill a need and we didn't have the luxury of taking a chance on a talented, but injured player. Gronkowski is a big boy and is very talented, but he's coming off of a back injury and hasn't played a game in a while. Still, he's a great pick for the Pats, but they could afford to take that chance.
-
Not unheard of, unheralded. He's not as raw, but it's close. Hence the late round selection.
-
Bell, Meredith and now Wang. Seems we think we can turn everyone into "the nest Jason Peters". Turning unheralded prospects and turning them into pro bowlers. Here's hoping...

Is Edwards Injury Prone?
lets_go_bills replied to GrudginglyPessimistic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes but if you had to stand behind a porous O Line with vicious pass rushers and blitzers coming at you , you'd spend some time in the doctor's office too. Trent has stood up in the pocket, delivering throws despite pass rushers in his face. He's taken some hard shots for the sake of moving the chains. -
The guy would get franchised every year, hold out for all of camp, show up come game day, and absolutely dominate all year. One of the all-time greats.
-
Oakland didn't want him. Nuff said.
-
This idea "struck" you? Better go apply for a patent. The NFL has been debating an 18 game season for well over a year now. It's a horrible idea. It would render past stats and records incomparable to new ones. It would increase the physical abuse these players' bodies take. It would increase injuries. It would wear guys down before the playoffs even begin. The NFL is a business and they're always looking for ways to increase profit margins. This is one idea that is horrible. It would be bad for the game. It's the most popular sport in North America. The NFL is perfect the way it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Sean Payton involved in Drug Scandal
lets_go_bills replied to PistolPeaTear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As of right now, these are unfounded and unproven allegations made by a former employee who attempted to extort a large sum of money from the Saints by threatening to go public with these allegations. The whole thing seems quite absurd. He makes it sound like the Saints locker room as a vicodin-dispensing machine that spits out pills like they're Skittles. I have a hard time believing any of this crap is true. -
There is no QB competition as most think of one.
lets_go_bills replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of our four QBs, Trent has the most talent, ability and experience. He's your starter. He's actually shown/flashed potential. The others have not. Barring a shocking and unexpected emergence of Brohm or Fitz, which is incredibly unlikey, Trent will start all 16 unless he gets hurt. -
Safety is a weakness. Injuries can cripple anybody. But it looks like they improved on an already solid defense. I'm not 100% convinced that Cromartie can be a great corner. He's going to be tested and thrown to a lot though because Revis is the best cover corner in the league. If he steps up and plays well, it's an elite defense. It certainly looks like a scary defense. But there are still some questions. Will the linebacking core hold up? Kris Jenkins is getting old and has experienced an injury plauged career. NT is the most important position in the 3-4, who will play if he can't/doesn't?
