ESPN Scouts, Inc. article on Bills 08 Draft
lets_go_bills replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought that scouting report was spot on. -
But to be honest, if you have been to a Bills game you know it's all about tailgating, drinking, having fun, and most of all football. I always heckle non-Bills fans, ALWAYS. And if ever go to a Bills away game I hope I get heckled, cuz it's all in good fun. It's team pride, it's being passionate, it's football. Don't go on about maturity, this is not how anybody behaves in their day to day life. It's only on Sundays at the Ralph, when surrounded by 74,000 football nuts. If you're all calm and sip on pepsi and don't bash opposing teams, your not normal!

I learned a lesson today

His "bad" games as you call them aren't that bad. The only game that concerns me is his bowl game performance. If you consider 7 catches for 64 yards against Michigan a bad game then you are on harsh critic. Same for 4 and 77 against the Ohio State (number one team). Let us compare Thomas' junior campaign to that of Sweed's junior campaign. Thomas catches: 79 Sweed catches: 46 Thomas yards: 1260 Sweed yards: 801 Thomas TDs: 8 Sweed TDs: 12 (McCoy is a far bett QB than Hoyer) Thomas yard av: 15.9 Sweed yard av: 17.4 Thomas 100yd games: 7 Sweed 100yd games: 3 Sweed had "bad" games too. It happens. There is no clear-cut front-runner for top WR this year. There is no Calvin Johnson. For Devin Thomas, in that bowl game, which was against BC, which was QB'd by Matt Ryan, it wasn't Thomas who disappeared, Hoyer went 14 of 36 for only 131 yards with 2 TDs and 4 INTs and a fumble. You gotta do your homework bro. I can see why you aren't high on him, but there have been countless players who have had bad bowl games and go on to have great careers. Besides a WR can only be good if his QB can get him the ball, Hoyer was so bad in that game it's no surprise Thomas' stats are only 4-34-0. Thomas caught 4 of the only 14 completed passes, and had 34 of the 131 yards passed. I look forward to your rebuttal. I love debate

My title says "not good." I'm not proud of it, I'm just very passionate about my team. I didn't mean to offend.
-
LOL. I totally get where you're coming from bro, and I agree 100%. The draft is crazy like that. My best guess would be that the draft is a product of over-analyzing. So-called draft-gurus or draft-experts are quick to bash a team for "reaching" for a guy, but why the hell wouldn't you go with the guy who fills your biggest need!? Case and point being Whitner. Everybody was surprised by this pick. The Bills knew what they were doing, they picked the guy they liked who filled a need. Sometimes trading down isn't always possible. If the "value" isn't there, trade down, if you can't just take the guy you need. It's so simple.
-
I agree, 11 is too high for WR. But it's our biggest need so I wouldn't be surprised at all if we "reached" for one. Ideally I would love to trade down and aquire more picks while being able to still get the same WR. I think it all depends on how the draft unfolds. I mean, if the Vikings have Harvey high on their board than maybe they would trade up with us. It's so tough to predict trades though.

Devin Thomas is potentially one of the guys we are targeting with the 11th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. While he is considered a "one-year-wonder" a look at this stats suggest he could be a star in the NFL. Here is his game stats from his 2007 campaign at Michigan State: Note: School - Catches, Yards, TDs. 1. UAB - 5, 106, 1 2. Bowling Green - 4, 156, 1 3. Pittsburgh - 3, 53, 0 4. Notre Dame - 4, 55, 1 5. Wisconsin - 4, 111, 1 6. Northwestern - 5, 61, 0 7. Indiana - 13, 148, 1 8. Ohio State - 4, 77, 0 9. Iowa - 9, 139, 0 10. Michigan - 7, 65, 0 11. Purdue - 10, 116, 0 12. Pen State - 7, 139, 3 Bowl Game. Boston College - 4, 34, 0 In the college game it's the RB who puts up monster stats, not the WR. That said his year stats are: Catches: 79 Receiving Yards: 1260 Receiving TDs: 8 So... Seven out of 13 games he went over 100 yards, Monster game against JoePa and the Nittany Lions, Kind of disappeared in the Bowl game, At 6'2" 215lbs has NFL size. Yeah, he only has one year of solid production but it was VERY solid production. He never got the chance to shine until 2007, so I don't see it as a fluke, but you do like to see a track record of success so you can predict the future better. But his upside is huge, potential limitless. Heck, if he's a late bloomer than he can only get better. He just needs a little polish, and wokring opposite Lee Evans could get him there. While Malcolm Kelly has yet to workout (April 9th), he still is probably the guy. But Devin Thomas looks good too. Let me know your thoughts folks.

Bills "On the Clock" On ESPN SportsCenter

Yeah, no kidding. Marshall made himself look so stupid when he said we needed to upgrade at Left Tackle. I didn't mind him before, but after that I lost all respect for him. -

One man's Bills mock draft
lets_go_bills replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Heck, I'd be happy if we went with a CB with number 11, but only if we could guarantee a good tall WR in round two. Yeah, it's a deep WR class but I would only want Kelly, Sweed, Thomas, or Hardy. -
One man's Bills mock draft
lets_go_bills replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the feedback guys. bills red, who would you say is the best option at WR. I watched a good chunk of Kelly playing, and I think his height and hands are advantage enough over a CB. I see him as a possession receiver and red zone target who will free up Lee and open up the passing game. As for Flowers, he could go in round two for sure, but I'm not as high on him as others. I think that McKelvin, Cromartie, Jenkins, Talib, Lee, and Cason will all go before him. -
It's pretty well impossible to predict trades with even remote accuracy, so I'm doing this as a "no-trades" mock. Having said that, I do hope that we trade down with the Vikings or Cowboys and pick up an extra 2nd and 4th. And then bundle our 4ths to move into the bottom of the 2nd for a total of 3 round 2 picks! I'm getting carried away now, but that would be sweet. The Bills have shown their not afraid to "reach" for the guy they want. Now then, on to my "no-trade" mock! Round 1, Pick 11: Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma - I watched some game tape of him and came away with this; a) he's big, b) he has GREAT hands, c) he's tough over the middle. In order for this choice to happen this guy needs to weigh 220-230lbs on April 9 and run 4.5-4.6, while getting clearance from team doctors that his knees/legs are fine. Round 2, Pick 41: Fred Davis, TE, USC - Great receiver who finally gives us a legitimate threat from the TE position. He played at a big-time school that turns out a lot of pros. And let's face it, Trent is really good at locating the TE and needs one better than Royal. Round 3, Pick 72: Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech - Solid CB who played on a great defence, some character concerns apparently. I could go with Godfrey, the CB from Iowa, here too. Round 4, Pick 114: Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest - One of the better C available this year. Should at least push Fowler in Camp. Round 4, Pick 132: Wallace Gilberry, DE, Alabama - High motor guy, played for D-mastermind Saban, productive guy: 10 sacks his senior year. Round 5, Pick 147: Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia - Big, strong, mean FB who will hammer people as a lead blocker in our new Offence. In defence of my mock (from all you haters, lol), I want us to go Offence in the top of the draft OK? Our D was not as bad as it was ranked, our O was. The D got off the field, but the O with its three and outs put it back on. Do NOT underestimate how much the Bills beleive in Trent. They will surround him with weapons and give him every opportunity to succeed. And yes I can see us going CB or DE in round one but it's not likely IMO. We gotta keep Lee happy so he'll re-sign. He needs to see promise and that we're building something here. And that we're committed to making the Offence better and taking pressure off him. P.S. Bills for the Wildcard Playoff spot in 2008, and Stroud and Whitner for Pro Bowl in 2008.

New Season Ticket Holder...
lets_go_bills replied to SouthTownBills51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I'm a Season Ticket Holder, this will be my second year. I'm looking to upgrade and relocate to better seats. Supposedley the first week of April was gonna be the relocation time, but that hasn't happened yet and it's April 6th. I'm all paid up but as of right now am still holding down Section 332. -
If he doesn't run in the 4.4s he will drop for sure. But if he runs in the 4.6 range he his headed for the second round. If that's the case you're probably looking at Devin Thomas as the highest rated WR on Buffalo's board.

NFL.com's video mock draft has us taking CB
lets_go_bills replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like I said, provided Kelly is healthy, and shows up April 9 at 230lbs and runs a 4.4, the Bills will take him. And I'll be a very happy man. -
Fans should be wary of Bills shuffle
lets_go_bills replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is just one man's opinion. I am Canadian, and a Bills season ticket holder, but I am against the Bills, or any team coming to Toronto. I believe the NFL would put a team in LA before Toronto anyway. The reason the Bills are playing in Toronto is to help this super-small market team make revenue. That's it. It's a marketing ploy, and a smart one at that. The tickets for the Toronto games are like 5 times the price of Buffalo games. Ralph is still alive and well and the Bills won't be going anywhere, guaranteed for at least 10 years. Besides, you all heard Jim say he has partners ready to buy the Bills, and the Sabres owner is interested too. The Bills will remain the BUFFALO Bills. -
Strange pick IMO, this guy has us taking Brandon Flowers, who by most mocks, is second round material. I could see us picking this guy, but not until round two. I'm still all for WR. And if Malcolm Kelly shows up on April 9th weighing 230, and runs a sub 4.4, I think he'll be the pick. http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d807746e6

Draft Tek Runs a Sim of Bills TradeDown
lets_go_bills replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would absolutley love this trade! Take best if somehow Sweed or Kelly are still on the board, take em! But if not go with Devin Thomas. Then Keller with 40 and best available corner with 42, I'd say Cason or Flowers. And finally best available DE or DT at 73. -
Titan's lose one of the dirtiest linemen in the league
lets_go_bills replied to Adam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL. Great minds think alike. Am I right or what? -
I like this topic, good post. Character is so important for many reasons; 1. The NFL is cracking down on bad behaviour... big time. What good is a player who can't even play because he is suspended? 2. Team guys contribute to great success because they put the team first and know that no one player is bigger/more important than the team. 3. High character guys aren't distractions/locker room cancers. 4. Players wanna play with high character guys. I personally think character is more important than ever these days.

LOL. I actually thought he was referring to Haynesworth (a la head stomp). Which made no sense since he is franchised. -
Why are we high on Ko Simpson?
lets_go_bills replied to 2020 Our Year For Sure's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy was a great player at SC. The guy played in the ultra-competitive SEC and was the SEC freshman of the year. He was All-SEC twice and All-American twice. He was projected as a first round pick and somehow fell to the 4th round, which made him a friggin steal. Ko is a great athlete. Expect him to emerge as a playmaker this year if he is indeed healthy and plays the whole season.
