TBD Mock draft: Who do the Bills pick at #11
stewy23 replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Merling is projected to be a middle to late first rounder just like Sweed and Thomas. It shouldn't count against him that there are/were better defensive ends ahead of him in the draft. He's still a solid player now who has a lot of potential to get even better down the road. I just don't see any wideout that stands out above the rest. That's a problem in my book. I like what Merling has to offer more than Sweed or Thomas. I also think that picking a wideout in round 2 or later is the smartest way to go. -
Sorry Hamdan. I've been wheeling and dealing since this thing started and that was the best offer on the table as of today.

TBD Mock draft: Who do the Bills pick at #11

Me neither. We have to pick somebody. I voted for Merling because I don't think Jenkins/Talib or Sweed/Thomas are worth that high of a pick. -

How long does the voting stay open? -
Ohhhhh.....this is where everyone is. I've been watching the original thread on the main board for discussion about this draft. Suffice it to say, I feel like an idiot. I was hoping/praying for Dorsey to fall, but Sed Ellis was there for the taking. What's the story with the Bills pick? I checked the poll and it wan't there.

What Is the Fascination With Devin Thomas?
stewy23 replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It worries me that this kid only has 1 college season to bank on. He's got great potential and his size/strength/speed are up to snuff by NFL standards. It's a very weak WR class this season, that's why he's being called the top wideout "al of a sudden." He's the only guy who hasn't hurt himself, so he wins the #1 wideout prospect status. Here's what NFL scouts draft boards look like right now: #1 Devin Thomas - hasn't F-ed up yet #2 Limas Sweed - wrist injury #3 DeSean Jackson - too small #4 James Hardy - Off the field issues #5 Malcolm Kelly - slow 40 #6 Mario Manningham - complete idiot -

Jeremy White's unsubstantiated rumor
stewy23 replied to Tim Anderson's Lunch Pail's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
that could be because they have a deal with the NFL that they get to play on every thanksgiving, at home, this game would be in addition to the regular Cowboys and Lions game Everyone knows this. Billadelphia is just remarking on how nice it would be to get to see somebody else in action on turkey day for a change. -
That would be awesome. My fingers are officially crossed.
-
There's no way they take a wideout at #11. They have to pick whoever has the most value. Hopefully they'll grab the top corner or defensive end on their board. I'm not against trading back into round 1 to get Sweed or Thomas, but that's going to cost us.

I have seen/heard the coaches say how versatile Johnson is but the D-Line is lacking a good pass-rush opposite Aaron Schobel. Johnson can play end in a rotational system but he's more geared towards stuffing the run. I think they are more worried about the pass rush than anything else. I agree that they need to add another guy to the rotation, but I think that guy will be a pure edge-rusher for passing downs. Kelsay and Denney are solid as pass rushers and run stoppers but neither is spectacular at getting to the QB. That's where the line is lacking the most now that they sured up the run D via Stroud.
-
You may be right, but the problem with Harvey is that he didn't get a lot of sacks in college. He's not really a premiere pass-rusher as much as he is a good all-around defensive end. The Bengals need to address their entire D-Line and it looks like Ellis would be a good first step. Harvey would be nice there, too but I think you get more value with Ellis.

does it matter kelly ran 4.68?
stewy23 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has never played in an NFL game and has a whopping 1 similarity to the great Jerry Rice - a 4.7 40. Please do not project him as a possibility to be the next Jerry Rice. There is no "next" Jerry Rice just like there is no "next" Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretsky etc... -
I think Sedrick Ellis will be one hell of a football player but there are a couple of reasons why he won't be a Buffalo Bill: A. We have invested a lot to get McCargo, Stroud, S. Johnson & K. Williams on this team. This is too high a pick to spend on a position that is not a top need. We addressed this position by getting Stroud and Johnson this offseason. There is no need to address it again. B. I don't see Sedrick Ellis falling out of the top 10. The Bengals are in desperate need of a DT and I highly doubt they even get a chance to select Dorsey. It's definitely not worth it to move INTO the top 10 where everyone is trying to get out. C. IF Ellis falls and he's the best player available when we select, I don't see him being on this team for more than an hour or so. Too many other teams are in the market for good defensive tackles and I see us trading him off for picks/players.

I posted this on another thread but I'll say it again: Please stop comparing every slow receiver (in this case Malcolm Kelly) to Jerry Rice, Anquan Boldin, T.O., Plaxico Burress, Keyshawn Johnson and whoever else suits your argument. Can he be productive? Maybe, time will tell. He's never faced NFL-caliber defenders and we don't know if he'll be the next Anquan Boldin or the next Mike Williams. Kelly had a bad 40 time and blamed everyone but himself. If you remember, he timed in the high 4.4's (low 4.5's) last year before he hurt his knee. So it seems that his injury has cost him that top end speed. What concerns me is the fact that he is an injury risk AND he doesn't seem to be much of a team player with his blame-game B.S. The Bills need to take a long, hard look at this kid and really weigh whether or not they should risk a 2nd round pick on him. -
Malcolm Kelly to workout again Sunday.
stewy23 replied to Brandon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe he's shy? He doesn't like it when people watch him. I can't pee when people are watching me so I understand where he's coming from. The problem is that he's trying to get a job where more than a couple of people will be watching him work. He may want to switch to another career. Seriously. I don't know what is going on with this kid. There are so many red flags here it's crazy. I hope to God somebody else is stupid enough to draft him. P.S. Can everyone stop with the "Anquan Boldin had a bad 40 time" argument. It's ridiculous to start comparing every slow receiver to Jerry Rice, Anquan Boldin and Plaxico Burress before they've even seen the field at the pro level. -
How about Harvey or Rodgers with our first pick...
stewy23 replied to BravinSeattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see any value in trading back into the 1st round. Unless there is somebody who is really worth it who starts to fall I don't see it happening. Plus we don't have as many tradeable picks as we did last year when we got Poz. DRC and Harvey will both be gone by pick #20 and Kelly will be gone in the 2nd round. Carlson is most likely a 3rd rounder. If these guys free fall into later rounds, I'm with you on getting them but it's not likely. -
This is one of the funniest posts I've seen in weeks.

Nice mock. 1. Limas Sweed - I'm torn between Devin Thomas and Limas Sweed at this point and I wonder if #11 is too high for either of them. 2. Antoine Cason - I love this selection and I think he'll be a great addition for us. 3. Jason Jones - I don't know much about this kid. Not a bad spot to pick up DE depth/talent. A few people are sold on taking a TE here but I disagree. 4. Jermichael Finley - Solid pick. I think round 4 is where we should address the TE position. 5 - 7. it's anyone's guess at this point. A good FB would be nice and I agree that we need OL/QB depth but we don't need to address the WR/CB postion any more if we do so in the first 3 rounds.
-
I wouldn't mind Cason in the second round. No way we take him at #11. We're in a tough spot to draft players where we have holes. Here's the way I see it: Round 1 - 11th overall - Too early for a WR or TE. Best pick might be OL/DL/CB. Round 2 - 41st overall - This is the area to grab a WR or CB but top talent at those positions will be gone. Too early for a TE. Round 3 - 72nd overall - Good time for a WR but you're picking at leftovers. Still might be early for a TE, but if a good one is here we should grab him. I'm so lost right now with which direction I want the team to go. I can't wait for the draft.

Annual 3 round TBD Mock draft - ***STARTS MONDAY***
stewy23 replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When is draft day? I'm ready to do this now. -
Wow. I guess that answers the question of whether or not he's worth the 11th pick. I'm shocked. I thought he would do better than that. I still think he gets nabbed in the 2nd round, but that puts him well behind DeSean Jackson, Devin Thomas & Limas Sweed now.

Ricky Williams had more than a "weed problem." The guys was clinically depressed and suffered from various other mental and social disorders. That guy was messed up in the head way before he started toking. My point is that I don't care if a guy smokes a little pot early on in his life as long as it doesn't develop into a habit. A lot of people (and some ESPN analysts) are like "O MY GOD! This college kid smoked weed! He shouldn't be drafted!" Like I posted earlier, I'm more worried about guys who have failed multiple drug tests over a long period of time. What makes that worse is the fact that Manningham then lied about it in his interviews. All the signs are there: regular pot smoker (3 positive tests) and he's immature (lying about them) on top of that.

Why do people still believe that Ray Lewis "participated" in a murdar? Some crazy sh*t went down and he may have witnessed some stuff and covered for his boys, but he was cleared of any murder charges. We're talking about positive drug tests, not false accusations.
