UPDATE: Fitzpatrick's contract #'s are in. per rotoworld. 2/27/2009: Signed a three-year contract. 2009: $1.8 million, 2010: $2.3 million, 2011: $2.8 million, 2012: free agent. So in '09 Fitz makes $1.8 mil while Edwards makes $460.000 and in '10 Fitz gets $2.3 while Edwards makes $550.000. Does Trent play out '09 like a good soldier or will he or his agent cry foul? Does Dick have other plans for a fellow Ivy-leaguer than simply a non-threatening backup?

I can buy that. The reason they're shopping for a veteran backup is in anticipation of a Lynch suspension to start the season and to have quality depth at the position in the case of injuries. Good planning.
