  1. I can't imagine there's reason to have surgery if there isn't a break or a ligament tear of some kind.

It's just a matter of where the injury was, how quickly it heals, and how much it limits RP from catching the ball as to when he comes back.

The 'good' thing is that it shouldn't limit his conditioning. Hell, put a red jersey on him and let him practice - just keep the ball away.

  2. Actually, we should get a "compensatory" pick if he leaves as a FA.  Denver got a couple of third rounders this year and they didn't lose a 1300+ yard running back.

We should be able to get at least a 3rd or 4th from the league if he leaves as an FA.

Well, Travis Henry won't be leaving as a 1300+ yard back. He'll have two years of low production (unless Willis gets hurt).

What's the specific criteria for determining compensation? Is it salary? Stats?

  3. any thoughts??

I think he's borderline at best.

    * He went to the Pro Bowl 7 times. Good, but not great. To go to the Pro Bowl you just have to be a top 8 WR (more or less).

    * He had just *5* seasons with 70 or more receptions (and two of those seasons were 71).

    * Look at the receptions each year: 48 53 57 71 88 71 81 65 52 90 24 66 60 63 52 10. That doesn't say HOFer to me.

    * He had just one season with 10 TDs, and never any more than that. In only 4 seasons did he average half a TD/game.

    * Career YPC - 13.9 yards - nothing special for his time.

    * Top 10 leaders (rank in parenthesis):

    -- Receptions: 5 (8, 2, 10, 5, 6)

    -- Yards: 3 (5, 6, 5)

    -- TDs: 4 (6, 6, 5, 8)

So out of receptions, yards, and TDs - the measuring sticks of WRs - Reed was in the elite (top 3) once in his career.

There's two things that Reed has going for him - 1. He played on one of the dominating offensive teams of his era; and 2. He had a very good player for a very long time and rarely was injured, which allowed him to accumulate a lot of stats.

Art Monk is actually a pretty good statistical comp for Reed - someone that played a long time but rarely was among the elite WRs in the league, and Monk's having a pretty tough time getting in. I don't see why Reed is any different. It essentially boils down to how low you want to lower the bar for entry into the HOF. I prefer the highest standards myself, so if I were to vote I'd vote no.

And just for the record, among Bills from this period I would have Levy, Kelly, Thomas, Bruce, and Tasker in the HOF.

  4. I'd say Henry and Lindell for Akers and a 3rd next year.  No way we squeeze a 2nd for henry with another player involved.

Let's see....NO team would give the Bills a 3rd round pick for Henry this year. But the Eagles will give one next year, and then also trade their All Pro kicker for a kicker most people here can't get rid of fast enough? Yeah, I could see the Eagles doing that. :o

Maybe if you include Sam Aiken the Eagles will also throw a 1st round pick in the deal. I hear they need a WR.

  5. Exactly how I feel about it.  Eric King might turn into a Hall of Famer, but I feel like this was the wrong pick.  Oh well.

I think we'll find out after the draft that there's something more with Hawthorne that isn't public. It doesn't make sense that every team would pass on him this many times.

  6. Can't say I'm too thrilled with Bill's draft this year.  Disappointed with lack of trade for Henry. Do like third round pick with Everett though.  Parrish is too small to be really effective.  Who about Raymond Preston as center, why didn't the Bills pick Jason Brown?  Is he a better prospect than Preston?  Who is actually better?

    316410[/snapback]

The Bills must have felt Brown was better as they took Preston....

I'll trust the scouts & McNally on this one.

  7. I can't see Roscoe ever being more than a slot receiver, which limits the number of opportunities he'll have to touch the ball, especially if we're going to have a "smash mouth" run-oriented offense.

Having 3 good receivers doesn't mean you can't be smash mouth. I seem to remember the Bills having success at one time running the ball in a 3 WR formation.
