  1. End zone seat near Elvis, 1-3-93.

Also...One of the first games I attended, in 91. The Jets were in town on a brilliant, clear October day. I was really struck by how you could see the whole field, individual battles, stuff you missed watching on TV. I remember noticing James Lofton run his routes, letting the defender trail pretty close behind. Then on one play, he was off down the left sideline, and way downfield he suddenly shifted into a higher gear and put space between them. But before the burst of speed, I noticed Kelly cranking up and heaving it long. Lofton caught that bomb on his outstretched fingertips in full stride and took it in for the touchdown...what a crafty receiver!

I was hooked right then and there. Joined my buds in group season tickets and we're still going today.

  2. I like the way Marrone & Co. are easing EJ in. No crazy 50 throw days. Reminds me very much how the Steelers handled Ben in his first year. Run the ball, dump it off and play great defense.

Good comparison, and thanks for the reminder. I find myself impatient sometimes and down on Hackett a bit; but I'm sure Marrone is in control and it's all part of the careful plan.

  3. I truly hate to say this, so as not to jinx him, but most all of the college scouting reports said EJ was one of the best in the nation in "mat reading." Now, granted, some college mats are a little different than the ones the pros use. But the ability to walk on mats is really one of those talents that you either have or you don't. All the "just put one foot in front of the other" micromanaging by coaches is usually ignored by the players. Manuel has never had a mat problem before, and if you have been watching him in practice, he basically ignores they are even there. That just shows a mat swagger. I'm not going to worry about them. EJ is mat-ready.

This. EJ was one of the best walk-on players in FSU history.

  4. It's sad, I've seen a bunch of long-time season ticket holders in our section stop coming over the last several years. Same with some of the (formerly) faithful contingent who make the long trip every week from our part of Livingston County. As for me, 21 years going to games and counting. I spend $1000 every year on tickets, gas/parking, tailgating and restaurants. It's still money well spent, but I'd be lying if I said my enthusiasm was what it used to be.

  5. ...it is nice to see unbiased reporting showing what we all know.

Don't know if this was mentioned in some other thread, but did anyone catch the NBC Sunday night pre-game show? Tony Dungy and Rodney Hairball showed/talked about this play. They first showed the weak PI call, then the McKelvin mugging. Dungy just shook their head in disbelief, kind of half laughing and said "If this first one gets called for pass interference, how in the world do you not call it on the second one?"
