THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - No Bills on Sunday Afternoon, No Problem
Big Turk replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall
Belichick's ego won't allow him to do a full rebuild. He thinks he can coach up scrubs to be all-pro's and his successes on defense with Malcolm Butler and JC Jackson, taking them from UDFA's and turning them into star players(although Butler's star was fleeting), has fueled this. And to be honest, he is getting a LOT more out of this NE team than most coaches would...they are just devoid of talent in a lot of areas. They do well against mediocre/bad teams but are exposed badly against good/great ones. Not unlike so many of the Bills era teams during the drought, but with less overall talent, IMO. -
Mini-bye: 3 days off, how many players leave town?

You sound like the taskmaster at work that wonders why they keep having employees quit and getting burnt out. Yeah...because dealing with 6 feet of snow, relocating games, playing 3 games in 12 days and numerous other things that entails plays no part in being mentally fatigued. You trying to start your own Comedy Hour? Off to a good start. -

Pushing teammates forward. Should it be legal or not?
Big Turk replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
When the NFL started, this was a very common play where it devolved into rugby scrums with players from both sides trying to push a player with the ball forward/backwards. Likely also why the games usually had lots of injuries and games routinely ended in 0-0 ties. A one TD lead was nearly insurmountable back then. It's part of the game and hasn't turned into anything close to that, so I am fine with leaving it in. Just a play where football still maintains something from it's roots so to speak. There aren't many of those things left, I don't think we need to eliminate them completely. -

Beane's master stroke was making multiple trades to get from 21 into the top 10...and it started before the draft by Trading Cordy Glenn and our first to Cincy to get to 12. Then using multiple 2nd round picks to get from 12 to 7. I think even before the salary cap era this was a problem and it was caused by teams holding onto their stars for a year or two too long instead of replacing them with young players. -

His unwillingness to package picks and trade up is what likely hurt him. He enjoys trading down and accumulating picks, but when you need a franchise QB, sometimes you have to aggressively go get him....like Beane did. -
Bears were the winningest franchise in NFL history for the past 101 years. That is no longer the case, and the Packers have surpassed them now after their win yesterday against the Bears and a game in which Aaron Rodgers said: "I may be sucking this year, but don't forget---I still f**king own you!"

And there is also merit in taking a mental break after all they had to deal with over the past 2 weeks as well so they can have a clear mind and better mental state for the stretch run coming up. Can only burn the candle at both ends for so long before it burns out. -

Do you think Mac Jones wouldn't look helpless a lot of times if he had Deebo Samuel there instead of Jakobi Meyer? They might not be top 10 players, but they are certainly top 30 players(minus Renfrow and Slayton), and far better than Harry is... so bad he had to be traded before his rookie contract was up. -
Just say "Bah Fangul!!" to the next Italian person you meet. I'm sure that will go over well with them.

I will say with the Lake being at record warm temps or near it still, Lake Effect Snow can kinda of "come out of nowhere" so to speak, so take any forecast over 5-7 days with a grain of salt. Welcome to Buffalo in the winter...one random day of sun, mixed in with cloudiness. My most hated part of winter here.

To a point I will agree, but he also hasn't helped himself by taking nothing players when multiple other good players at their positions were drafted after them meaning NE could have simply chosen them instead which mitigates this point. Example? He drafted N'Keal Harry at pick 32, the 2nd WR taken in that draft after Hollywood Brown at 25. Harry has 740 total yards(49 rushing/691 receiving) since being drafted. This means he had the following players available: Deebo Samuel(taken 36th) (757-3167=3924 total yards) AJ Brown(taken 51st) (246-3945=4091 total yards) DK Metcalf(taken 64th) (283-3968=4251 total yards) Diontae Johnson(taken 66th) (315-3329=3644 total yards) Terry McLaurin(taken 76th) (284-4035=4319 total yards) Hunter Renfrow(taken 149th) (229-2491=2720 total yards) Darius Slayton(taken 171st) (157-2396=2553 total yards) He had the chance to draft 3 players with over 4K yards, Samuel who might be the most dynamic dual threat in the NFL with almost 4K yards, Johnson who even tho he drops a lot of passes is a very good player and makes some crazy catches, and 2 other really good players in Renfrow and Slayton...and those numbers are with Renfrow only appearing in 6 games this year due to injury and Slayton being a player that played in bad Giants offenses for a few years. Could likely go down the list of many players he chose that have sucked and do the same thing...lots of other good options where he picked and he just picked wrong. -
Oh...my bad, I thought you were talking about the Jets game this week...yeah you are right, it will likely be getting flexed, most likely to Saturday. Weather that far out is likely unreliable, so the sunny and no wind comment is probably out the window haha... But the hunter heat packs is for sure valid still...def make sure you have them.
-
Maybe not but it means the Fins now get a break from it while the other team doesn't, which means they get an artificially induced competitive advantage. Their bodies get a chance to cool down much more than their opponents. How about the Bills build enclosures on the sidelines their players can go into that are heated but not for the other team? That would be the equivalent.
-
Make sure you have hunter heat packs for your shoes and gloves. The cold you feel in your feet from that concrete is so bad that you can't think about anything between plays other than how cold your feet are otherwise. And that is with wearing double pairs of wool socks. Doesn't matter...went to plenty of games like that prior to finding out the joys of those heat packs. They are amazing and basically make this not even a concern. With weather being 38 and sunny with no wind, you should be good to go other than that. The sun makes it feel a lot warmer than it is even when its cold.
-
This is the type of team the Bills are a very bad matchup for...disciplined on D, Fields will make some plays with his legs but he will be seeing ghosts out there.
-
38 and sunny it looks like for the game, winds only 5 mph...hard to ask for better conditions in mid December...weather is supposed to be relatively tame all week with temps ranging from 35-45 and there is no snow left from that major storm due to all the warmer weather afterwards.

Lil Dirty apparently thought he was about to miss a connecting flight in Pittsburgh yesterday, so he was one of them...imagine he went down to Florida to check out his restaurants -

Add Brady to that list, so 12.5%. And all of them are milktoast now, including Brady. The bigger issue is he just isn't drafting very many really good players...way too many 1st and 2nd round picks that end up being nothing players. -
There were at least 5 or 6 big hits by the Jets even on completed passes...they are laying the lumber

I am not sure I agree on White. Yes, he made some good throws, but he also made more than a handful of ones that were behind receivers or not in good places that led to interceptions or near interceptions and passes that were not caught that should have been. He is what he is...reminds me a lot of Fitz. He is going to try and fit the ball into some places but lacks the arm strength to do so consistently against good defenses. He is a QB that will make some plays but will do just enough to lose most times against good teams. Look what happened last time we played Mike White after he was lighting teams up prior. This Vikings defense isn't what anyone would call good...they allowed gaudy offensive numbers to the Patriots and allowed Jones to put up almost 400 yards on them.
