  1. Read what I actually said... What I said was IF that was the reason he decided not to re-sign him... Personally I don't think that was the reason... I believe he wanted to see what he had in Stevie Johnson, among others... Besides, I'm sure the GM Buddy Nix had just as much to do with those decisions, if not more... I never stated that Gailey said T.O. was washed up... My entire point in this thread is about Kriegel's article.. Doc brought up Gailey in this thread, not me...
  2. Actually Doc, I don't believe you're being fair to my point... There was a season in between July 2010 and Jan. 2011.... My point is that Kriegel deemed T.O. washed up before he was signed by the Bengals or the 2010 season actually occurred.. He proved his critics wrong yet again... and the numbers more than prove it... In fact, he actually increased his production... Now, I understand he was with a very bad and injury-riddled Bills roster in 2009, but he still led that Buffalo offense... He went on to lead the Bengals this season too... Kriegel was just plain wrong... If Gailey actually made the decision himself in the offseason that T.O. was washed up, then he was wrong too... That does not mean that the Bills should have re-signed him.. Based on Stevie Johnson's development, it was probably the right decision for Buffalo.. Besides, in my opinion, the only reason the Bills front office signed Owens to begin with in 2009 was to help lagging ticket sales.. and it worked. This offseason is THIS offseason.. but don't fall into the same trap Kriegel did.. Perhaps T.O. does not come back from a torn meniscus.. He is 37 years old.. But thus far in his career, he has proven his critics wrong.. I know people love to hate him, but no one (particularly Kriegel and his article) can deny his talent...
  3. Back in July, Mark Kriegel (Fox Sports) wrote an article claiming that T.O. was washed up... This article was posted on The Stadium Wall for discussion before the season... Since I cannot reply to that thread directly, I have posted the link to it in the archives: Thread: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/115763-one-writer-thinks-to-is-washed-up/page__p__1904689__fromsearch__1#entry1904689 Fox Sports Article: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/terrell-owens-washed-up-and-looking-for-work-071510 Here's an exerpt from the article which I thought was particularly premature: As this is the NFL, the issue has little to do with character. After all, Roethlisberger and Vick (at least for now) still have jobs. It has to do with Owens’ decline as a football player. It was all he could do to catch 55 balls for 829 yards last season with the Bills. Those numbers, combined with his age, translate into new cost-benefit analysis. He’s not worth the trouble anymore. Well, after leading the Bengals with 72 rec. 983 yds. a 13.7 yd avg. and 9 TDs (Over twice as many TDs as Ochocinco), I'd say Kriegel's got some explaining to do...
  4. Hey Cynical... How'd ya like that 24 pt. comeback... Enjoy getting your ass whipped??? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Funny how much those crimson colored glasses make you look like a hypocrite... Here's some allegations and violations for ya Bama boy: Alabama Recruiting Violations: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2002-02-01-alabama-violations.htm http://carolinadawg.blogspot.com/2007/09/this-is-alabama-football.html What..? Saban accused of violations by his peers? Never! http://www.fanblogs.com/alabama/007064.php Alabama probation over textbooks: http://www.bhamweekly.com/birmingham/article-867-ncaa-puts-alabama-football-back-on-probation-vacates-wins.html Antonio Langham anyone..? http://autiger62.com/cheaters/langham.htm
  5. I lived in Alabama for several years growing up and have always rooted for Auburn... A.U., to me, are underdogs much like the Bills and have had to endure a a rival that has won 13 national titles... I'm rooting for Cam Newton, allegations or not... He is a special athlete... Whether he would be a favorite for Buffalo come draft time, I don't know... But I find a few things interesting in the equation... For one, we all know that Buddy Nix is an SEC and southern football guy and hails from Alabama... Gailey is from Georgia and went to U of Florida... not to mention he had coaching gigs with Troy, Troy St. and Georgia Tech.. Two, if it is true that Nix and Gailey were trying to move up and get Tebow last year, then that would be a clue that a QB like Newton might be exactly the style they are looking for... and a spread offense with some wildcat and other wrinkles would be about right for Gailey... Three, while we aren't certain yet, the Bills look to have a high pick next April.. They need to sell tickets and a "Tebow" type draft prospect could be the answer... I'd say there is a fair to good shot that Buffalo goes after Newton if everything falls into place... Buffalo does have a lot of needs though, so there are many ways they could go...
  6. 5 out of the last 7 BCS National Championships and 6 out of 12 total for the SEC... What a comeback for the Auburn Tigers, who have only shared the national championship once in history... Here's to an Oregon/Auburn Championship!!! War Eagle!!!
  7. Damn... Are we going to pull a Detroit this year? 0-16? God knows, if we can't beat the Jags... Do we have a chance against anyone?
  8. Looks like Poz is the only guy on defense who cares...
  9. This... We need all the weapons we can get...
  10. How would you know what I know of him..? Actually I've read quite a bit about him... Funny though that you would pick that one sentence to reply to and completely ignore the true subject of the debate, Mr. Adams...
  11. He seemed to do alright with our lousy passing game last year... Better than anyone else on our offense statistically... I'd hardly call a team bad when they beat out the Steelers and Ravens for the division... Owens joins Antonio Bryant and Ocho Cinco, so it isn't as if he will be reviving the passing game on his own... More like complementing and balancing the run-oriented attack... and very solid defense. Go ahead... Build up that straw man so you can knock it down... Perhaps you should step away... Or simply read what others post... Its not that difficult. The real John Adams would be disappointed in your cheap debate tactics... Where did I ever say anything about them being a model franchise..? I merely stated that they may have a better idea of how to evaluate a player than a journalist looking to write an easy story on an easy target... Again, that criminal team of gangsters won the division last year... before they signed T.O. or Antonio Bryant.. T.O. doesn't have to be what he was when he was 25.. Just solid, that's all.. But washed up..? Where have his statistics proven that he can't play anymore? The guy is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer and is now on an offense with some real talent... Barring injury, he should complement the rest of that offense pretty well.. Time will tell, but I have a feeling this season T.O. will be better than you typical, unoriginal haters think... But go ahead, keep hating... Its easy...
  12. Yepper... T.O. sure is all washed up now, isn't he...? I guess the reigning AFC North champs disagree... but I doubt they have a better idea on what a player has left than a Fox Sports journalist...
  13. I've always pulled for T.O. despite his issues... although I feel as though the media has manipulated and over-exaggerated his problems for their own gain... but what else is new..? At the end of the day, he is one of the greatest receivers of all time despite what people think about him... He'll do well with the Bengals, barring injury of course, and he has some good talent there to work with... The only way he may piss me off is if, when the Bills visit Cincy in Nov., he uses his former team for "extra motivation"... showboating, taunting and pretty much sh**ing on Buffalo as if they wronged him by not re-signing him, etc... The Bills paid him 6.5 million guaranteed and Bills fans supported him.. T.O. should act like a pro that day... but we all know that's a 50-50 proposition...
  14. Stop making sense with these people, dude... I think we all know that T.O. is washed up.. because based off the juggernaut offense, record-level depth and offensive scheme genius of the legendary Jauron-led Buffalo Bills, Owens should have had 120 rec. 1800 yds. and 20 TDs... How the Colts got past us to represent the AFC, I'll never know... Seriously though, this subject will all be for naught and completely forgotten when a receiver goes down in training camp for some team and T.O. is quickly scooped up... I would imagine that if you put T.O. on a team with a true #1 like a Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson etc. and an offense ranked decently, he'd get more than 829 yds and 6 overall tds... even at age 36. But, hey, due to past faults of his own along with a sport's media determined to exaggerate his dirty laundry and constantly report negativity about him, the public has decided its just easier to hate on him... regardless of his stats on the field...
  15. That's a good question... and one I have considered a lot... Offhand, I do remember the Bills were neck and neck with Jax. and T.B. in top-ranked defensive categories for the 1999 season... Bills lead in some, Jax. and T.B. led in others... I believe the Bills were ranked 2nd in pts. allowed and 1st in yds. allowed... They only allowed 21 TDs total with an average of just over 14 pts. a game... Now who truly knows if we could have gotten to the SB, much less shut down the "Greatest Show On Turf"... But considering that the Titans were ranked right around the middle of the pack defensively that year, I believe the Bills D could have matched up better against the Rams O... Just my opinion... The real question about that particular postseason is: Did Wade Phillips make the right call in benching Flutie for Johnson? I know the horse has been beaten to a pulp on this one, but something to consider... R.J. was sacked 6 times in that playoff game, a weakness he always seemed to have... Would Flutie have been sacked that much..? Doubtful, considering he was much more elusive.. and that game was as close as it gets... 2-4 less sacks could've made the difference in a game the Bills SHOULD have won anyway... In my opinion, Flutie and that great D would have given us the best chance during that particular postseason... Again, who knows what would have really happened... Just my opinion...
  16. My thoughts exactly on this topic... When the chips are down, I will always root for this team... Even when its December, they have 4 wins and no chance at the postseason, I want them to win games vs. just getting a better draft pick... But that doesn't mean I have to look at them 24/7, year after year through rose-colored glasses either.. and they have done nothing over the last few seasons, save picking up a good player here and there, to warrant optimism...
  17. I canceled Directv all together last month... Just don't have the extra income for $100 a month service.. much less another $300 for the NFL Ticket.. I've been a subscriber to Directv and the NFL Ticket for 14 years and the woman I spoke to couldn't get off the phone with me fast enough... No offers, no negotiation.. Don't let the remote control hit your ass on the way out was pretty much her response.. I just picked up a pretty good job and am hoping I can put enough extra money together to pick it back up before Sept. But if I can't, this may be the season to save my money anyway where the Bills are concerned... We'll see...
  18. My guess would be that it had something to do with Pete Carroll thinking he could get more out of one of his former USC players... As far as them looking at Marshawn, I guess its still possible but not likely... Justin Forsett has a lot of talent and they still have Julius Jones and Leon Washington and some great talent at FB...
  19. Wow.... I do believe I've heard it all now.... I've heard reports that JR's current weight is 280 lbs... Maybe he could block for us..?
  20. I understand your point... However, as much as I hate to say this as a Bills fan, Polian and Levy didn't win a Super Bowl... They should have... At least one of them anyway... But then Ralph decided not to retain Polian, which IMO was poor judgement, and Polian went on to Indy and eventually got his ring. Gailey has had success as an OC, sure... As an NFL HC..? Meh... 18-14 in 2 seasons with the Cowboys (10-6, 8-8), winning the division once, 0-2 in the playoffs, disagreements with Aikman and living off of Jimmy Johnson's talent... I'd call that mediocre at best based off the players he had there. Now, again, this doesn't mean he can't be successful here... We don't know yet... I've already stated in this thread and elsewhere that I have hope for Nix as a talent evaluator/draft guy etc. based off of his track record in SD, 70 years old and 1st time GM aside.. Time will tell with this year's draft... I believe Nix is looking at this as a 2-3 year rebuilding process starting with building a new defense and hoping Gailey's offensive experience can get the offense by till he can concentrate on it more, perhaps next offseason. Having said that, we have had to endure some piss poor HC hirings over the last decade... This offseason, hope started to stir again when we learned of big interviews with Shanahan, Cowher and an intriguing coordinator in Leslie Frazier... There were other names floating around as interested like Schottenheimer and Billick... Ralph Wilson even proclaimed to be willing to spend 10 million a year... Then came the typical Ralph-like answer with his customary $3 million a year for an un inspiring WTF hire of Gailey... Now perhaps you were jumping for joy, brimming with optimism and thinking this was 3 steps above Jauron... Me? I was thinking "Here we go again..." Based on the track record, I have every right to be skeptical... This franchise has burned me at every turn when I entertain any semblance of hope... But, of course, there I'll be again in Sept. hoping against hope that Gailey can outcoach Belichick and Ryan... Time will tell... But my gut tells me regardless of how much talent Buddy Nix can bring in (assuming he can), Gailey is not the guy to challenge in this division... I honestly hope I'm wrong and will freely admit it if I am...
  21. Again, like I said, show it to me on the field... Sure, we've lost a lot of close, last second games... But the bottom line is, we lost... Great teams find a way to win the games they need to... The Bills never win when they need to... whether its by 1 pt. or 50 pts... Ultimately, they never pull it off when the chips are down... Buffalo Bills fans have been through the "what ifs" and "coulda, woulda, shouldas" like no other fans across any sport... I can appreciate your optimism Darth and enjoy reading your threads/posts along with several others here who wanna believe... I really wanna believe... Anyone who has been loyal to this team and spent their hard-earned income on them in one way or another is dying to see them finally lift up that Lombardi trophy... But, based on the number of times I've had my heart ripped out, I feel I have earned the right to be skeptical... That doesn't mean I'm a "gloom and doomer" or think the "sky is falling"... I'm just not gonna believe everything they feed me anymore until it really happens... We've had how many fresh starts with new regimes now? OK, Buddy... OK Chan... That schedule looks incredibly tough this season and we still have many issues to iron out... but you believe we can turn it around... Show me....
  22. This.... I agree completely with the screen passes and mentioned that in a thread a couple of weeks ago... Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller could run some fantastic screens and counters.... but it all depends on the line... Just like you stated, the OTs and Wood's rehab are the biggest concerns... At the end of the day, the questions on the OL, the daunting schedule the Bills have along with a very competitive division and the defensive switch to the 3-4 could be too much for a rebuilding team... 2011 (if there isn't a strike) may be the year this team starts climbing its way out... I'm on board with Nix thus far, but am still unsure about Gailey... Time will tell...
