Trying to remember, did the Bills try this guy out after he tore up the CFL? He's doing pretty well for the Dolphins.

Did we really make Pioli an offer?

This makes me want to punch myself in the face. He's 30 and 24 million for how many years? AHHHHHHHHHh

The only way he gets traded is if a team determines that the Bill's horrendously sub-standard talent is the main reason why Edwards struggled. Otherwise, I can't fathom why anyone who give up something for someone who will be released.

Luck is a Matt Ryan type of player. Drew Brees if we hit the jack pot. If Mallett is lucky he'll be a poor man's Jay Cutler. Just taller and less mobile. By the way, it wasn't just that Mallett wasn't impressed with Michigan, Michigan wasn't all that impressed with him either. Give me Terrell Pryor before Ryan Mallett. Seriously.

Have you watched the game? Or was that sarcastic? A) The obvious. He just threw two big interceptions. B) NFL defenses will be better than the Tides' C) A lot of those yards are after the catch D) Danny Wuerffel? Ryan Leaf? Leinart? You can absolutely rip it up in college and not have it translate to the NFL I'm sorry, if you watch this guy play, I just don't see it. Of course, I could be wrong. I like his leadership qualities. He's definitely got the makeup. But, his accuracy is off and he doesn't move well in the pocket. I think he could find success if he refines a few things, but I'm not positive. For what its worth, Clausen is the better QB. And wasn't even a 1st round pick.

I think Mallett gets a pass if he wasn't surrounded by as much talent as he is. I mean, 'Bama is good, no doubt. But, so are the Razorbacks. And Mallett still has a tough time making difficult throws. A lot of his numbers are padded by YAC. This last INT was just a terrible ball. Not an easy throw, but not a throw every NFL QB that doesn't play for the Bills can make.

Disagree about the cheating aspect. Though, I imagine that the Patriots weren't the only team clever enough to use that strategy. I just think the ganging up on the Patriots is over done. Bills fans should remember that up until 2000, the Patriots were the joke of the NFL. They always had a bad team. In a way, they are a sign of things that be coming.

I never said that the Bills should not talk about winning or publicly criticizing the players. I'm just saying that the organization owes it to the fans to be upfront after all of these years. And, I think Gailey would come off much better if he was a little more honest ( I know he is a blunt guy, but no matter how you spin it, this Edwards decision does not make him look all that great). I don't care one way or the other, the point of my initial post was to comment from the perspective of Gailey and Nix and question why they haven't just said, "listen, we are rebuilding, we are going to have bad games and we are going to have good games. And we are going to shake up the line up if someone doesn't perform. But, we are going to be a dominant football team soon and we will continue to work hard to get there."

I just hit on that w/o seeing your response. Realized I missed covering that point. I guess the way I see it is, who cares? You can the guys that their leadership is going to be important in getting the Bills back to glory. All 3 of them will still be able to play in the next 3 years. And its not like they need Chan or Nix to tell them how bad the team is. They already know. The only thing that changes is that the Bills publicly acknowledge they are rebuilding the team. They have only made subtle hints to it so far. What's there to lose?

And real quick, to tie this back into the Edwards debate, why don't Nix and Gailey just say: "Well listen, we had 3 QBs on the roster when we took over. All 3 are good players, but they each have a lot of work to do in their own respective areas (the polite way of saying, all 3 equally suck, but in different ways). Trent had a great training camp (true), is well respected by his teammates (true enough for him to be voted captain), and is the most experienced starter we have (true). It will be his job unless we see a reason to give one of the other guys a shot. No one's starting position on this team is safe, its not just the QBs (okay maybe they have said this). I mean, I understand also, you don't want to publicly say that your team isn't good bc of how it will play in the locker room. No player wants his coach to publicly talk about how much they suck. But, the players aren't dumb. They have to be aware of how bad the team is. And so long as the front office doesn't talk about the rebuilding effort in the context of how bad the talent is, I can't see how it will offend the players too much.

Correction, he has been the starter for two seasons. Point being, its ridiculous to say he is old or his production has declined.

If you can trade Lynch for a 3rd round pick, or even a 4th rounder and a late round pick, I think you have to do it. It pains me to see a 2007 #12 draft pick get traded away like this, but he is of little to no use to the Bills. As we saw with Bell, it is not difficult to find efficient running backs in the NFL. Fred is getting older and I'd rather keep Lynch and Spiller as a result, but Lynch is far more lucrative for a trading partner. Regardless, this is a further indictment of Ralph Wilson's crack pot employees. And goes to show you that skill players are only worth taking after having a QB, OL, DL, and LB. I'm not even sure we have 1 of those 4 units ready to compete at a playoff level. And AJ Hawk does not solve any kind of problem. Trading one bad draft choice for another isn't helpful.

What in Sullivan's article is off target I ask all of the Bills fan in denial? Factually, where is he wrong? Note: I was on the "Sully is a negative SOB" bandwagon all preseason. Up until everything he claimed came true and I looked like a horses ass for defending the franchise.

Not sure how this is something to be excited about. Not much upside with Fitz, though I suppose he has a better chance of getting the WRs involved. Reasons why this happened (IMO): -Fitz sees the field way better than Edwards. Fitz is Thigpen-esque and I think Gailey recognizes that. -Fitz makes quicker reads -Fitz takes shots down the field -Fitz is way more mobile (in fact, I think this might have been the biggest reason he is getting the call) Reasons why this is nothing to get excited about: -Fitz's accuracy is horrific. -Look back at ANY commentary about training camp (amateur or professional) and Fitz's poor performance stuck out to everyone. The guy doesn't have the natural abilities to be a starter -Fitz will throw more INTs than TDs by a noticeable margin Anyways, Brohm better start looking at the playbook.

Factoid of the Week That May Interest Only Me Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com ran the team-by-team salary-cap figures on his site Sunday. What intrigued me is that the last two teams on the list -- Tampa Bay ($80.8 million) and Kansas City ($84.5 million) -- are 2-0, and two of the four highest-paying teams -- Dallas ($166.5 million) and Minnesota ($143.4 million) are 0-2. Link In other words, lets give this small market team crap a break. How much more evidence do we need to indict Ralph Wilson on all charges of running one of those mismanaged NFL franchises in history. Aside from our Bill Polian orchestrated days of dominance, the Bills have been astonishingly mediocre. It all goes back to this guy. And without going on a rant about all of the examples of this, I'll just circle back to Peter King's column. Unbeknownst to Peter, many of the players/coaches he has been praising frequently this season....shock...were once members of the Bills, written off by the management and sometimes by the fans. I'll just start with a short list, that will likely expand as the weeks go by. -Gregg Williams -Alex Van Pelt -Anthony Hargrove -Jabari Greer -Richie Incognito Not to mention the huge list of young players PK mentions that were on record as supposedly being on the Bills radar on draft day, yet passed over in favor of the guys I need not mention. Anyways, you can bash PK all you want. Don't care about that. I'm just using his column as a point of record. Fact is, I'm not so sure the Bills improve with the current ownership situation. Many players, coaches and GMs have come and gone over the course of the Bills history. But, there has been one common denominator. And I'm not sure anything changes until Ralph Wilson moves on.

Yep. His negativity can often rub me the wrong way, but, as is the case with many Bills fans. Often my positivity isn't all that warranted. He is also one of the few guys to turn up the heat on Ralph Wilson. Who in my opinion is the one who deserves to be hung out to dry over this mess he has had fans pay for over the course of 10-12 years.

Not always a huge Sullivan fan. But, in his defense, he has been right way more times than I ever have when it comes to predictions on the Bills. I urge you all to read this column. The key phrase to me was how the 2009 draft was the jackpot for outside linebackers. We had the first pick and whiffed big time (this comes from a long supporter of Maybin who finally admits that the guy is never going to be the dominant player we had hoped he'd be). Link

+1. Darth hit the nail on the head. Whether or not the team moves is moot btw. Wilson will never invest what is needed to be a winner into this team. But he's been lining his pockets for years.

Went to the bar, watched one quarter and returned home. About all I could take. First off, why did we draft Spiller again? Showcasing Lynch doesn't mean making him the featured back and risking injury, so I'm not sure what happened there. Second off, did the Bills even watch the Packers tape from last week? How can you let Clay Matthews beat you like that. Third off, I was way wrong predicting 5-6 wins. This time is a top 3 pick come draft time. Absolutely atrocious and the coaching staff has no clue how to plug the holes. Too bad. Thanks Ralph.

Its a fair point. At this point, Lynch can be considered a lost cause and a wasted # 12 pick I think. The interesting aspect is that the guy is a talented RB. I don't doubt he is capable of putting up big numbers if he gets 20 reps a game behind a good O-Line. And no one really expected Fred Jackson to explode on to the scene like he did. I don't any of us can hate on the Spiller pick too much. Nix explained the approach very honestly and said that they were focused on OT, but the two OTs they saw as worth taking at 9 were off the board (Okung and Williams). Which, by the way, seems to have been a fairly accurate assessment. Williams had a great showing against the Cowboys. I don't know about Okung because he has been injured. But, after those two, look what you have: -Anthony Davis who was responsible for two sacks, a forced fumble and a false start as RT against the Seahawks last week. -Bulaga isn't even starting and might not even end up playing as a OT -Saffold seems to have had a good game. But, there is 0 chance he was going as a top 10 pick, so its not really worth debating -Beadles struggled with penalties against the Jags and had the expected rookie troubles with speed rushers, but wasn't even penciled in as a OT. Was playing LG until an injury forced him to RT. -Ducasse, we've all seen hard knocks and know the answer to his poor transition -Charles Brown isn't starting, but he is on the Saints, so its hard to tell what he could have brought to the table. Saints have a good O-line as it is. Those are the OTs drafted in the first 2 rounds. Certainly not saying these guys will be busts. In fact most of them will probably put together very solid careers. I'm just staying, none of these guys were ready to step in at LT on day 1 and provide the Bills what they need most. I wouldn't have taken any of them over Spiller. Throw me Trent Williams and I might feel differently, but otherwise, all indications point to the Bills making the right call.

How many years does Hawk have left on his deal? I can't imagine too many. The only deals that make sense for the Bills are ones that stock draft picks quite honestly. I don't know enough about Hawk to make a judgment, but I do know that he is heavily criticized by Packers fans for lacking a certain football IQ. Any linebacker could help the Bills sure, but I don't see what Hawk brings the team. Unless we are trading for a OT, I'd rather see the team stock draft picks. That being said, 0 credible sources have mentioned the Bills/Packers trade talks. That could be because we are playing the Pack this week, but who knows. If Nix doesn't have Lynch on the block, he has to be crazy. 3 RBs are only useful if a team calls 25-30 running reps a game. I don't even know if the Bills called 30 offensive plays IN TOTAL against the Dolphins. Having that much talent doesn't make sense IMO. Personally, I'd rather keep Lynch and get rid of Jackson. Not saying Lynch is the better player. Just saying that Lynch is 24 and Jackson is rounding the corner to 30.

I honestly can't see the Bills making a trade for anything other than a draft pick. I understand we are in need of a linebacker, but overall, we are not going to be a team competing this year. In other words, if the trade happened, the result would hopefully be an incremental increase over someone like Torbor or Moats. I'm not sure that makes sense for the Bills unless the linebacker coming back is cheap and signed beyond the next 2 seasons. And, a player like that won't likely be traded away.

Just hope Jake Locker meets the hype. Or Ralph Wilson moves on.

Thanks for the quote. I posted similar stuff he said from the post-game PC yesterday. This is by far the worst. Its blatantly a quote from a guy in semi-denial. He season this kid comes in and says all the right things and fails to execute. He knows this, he knows what people are saying and in order to keep his job, he says crap like this. I'm sure he only half believes it. It the kind of thing you say when you're trying to convince yourself of something that isn't true. Regardless, I hope Chan Gailey takes him aside and says, listen, I don't care what kind of game you have, you won't be saying stuff like that. If this truly is a "tough game for tough people", than I really hope Gailey puts an end to that bull **** mindset.
