From Allen Wilson's chat today
LABills08 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See, here is my problem with the QB position. Everyone thinks you just draft a QB in the 1st round and you get the next Brett Favre. Very few NFL players last for 15 years. Especially QBs. -
I'd take it, but I don't know how Jerry Jones lets him go. If Wade didn't win last night, Garrett would probably be the Cowboys coach next season.
-
I only had to read the first 3 posts to know that I don't need to read the rest. Apparently he "only wins because he has good players." You could literally say that about every winning coach in the league. You know this guy is one of the most highly regarded Coordinators in the league right? All of you Cowher or bust people are retarded.
-
Bills were an extremely strong position being the only team searching, but it couldn't last forever. Still, only two teams with openings is pretty nice. And no playoff team will end up firing a coach except maybe the Cowboys or if someone retires. Seahawks are in a worse position than the Bills. But they have way more money.

Saw him tonight. The real deal. Please draft him.

How was the question phrased? I find it strange for Nix to be that candid with a comment to the press. Not sure its a good thing, though I appreciate the insight and he is 100% correct. I want Maybin to pan out. I think he has potential, though clearly Cushing/Orakpo would have been a far better choice. And it should be noted that both Cushing and Orakpo play linebacker. It would have been interesting to see what Maybin could have done in that role.

Now WGR Just Said Billick Is Assembling Staff
LABills08 replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a reason Billick hasn't coached since 2007. If the Ravens had actually developed a QB/Offense, they could have perhaps been the most dominant team of the decade. Their defense has been tops in the league season after season, but they never put together a solid offense. This does not lend much credibility to Billick's offensive approach. He is especially known for being poor at developing QBs, something the Bills need help with. He is pretty much a has been. I mean, Jauron could have won a superbowl with that defense. If they can't land Cowher, I would look towards some of the young Coordinator prospects. With so few HC openings this offseason, the Bills will not have a huge amount of competition for the top rated guys. -
Just on NBC. Totally speculative, but he said that if Bill Cowher wants to coach next year, Buffalo might be his best option (b/c Carolina and Tampa will likely not be open).

Official Week 17 Game thread vs. Colts
LABills08 replied to justnzane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think your logic is flawed. 1) What makes someone a game changer? I mean, Lynch ran for over 2,000 yards his first two seasons in the league, behind a very shaky O-Line (in terms of run blocking). A 1,000 yard season is a strong accomplishment for any RB in this league. It is a benchmark for success. And regardless of that, how many running backs does the NFL have that are game changers based on your criteria? I hope not many. BTW, roughly 13 players rushed for over 1,000 yards this season. They are all good players. There is no reason to think Lynch will not be in their company next year. Link 2) The Bills were not going into a rebuilding year in 2007. So I'm not sure what you are talking about. They finished 7-9 for godsake. And look at the list of future pro bowlers from the 2007 draft class (from the 1st round). Not a huge list. But Lynch is on it. link 3) Just because Lynch isn't the best RB on this team (which I dispute, I think each RB's are talented and one is having a good season and one is having a bad season....a fact that has nothing to do w/ their respective talents) does not mean he was a failure as a draft pick. Is Evans a failure bc he isn't the best WR on our team? -

Please explain to me how Marshawn Lynch was a squandered pick. Did he or did he not go to the pro bowl last year? -
Official Week 17 Game thread vs. Colts
LABills08 replied to justnzane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just saw the score. Good to see the team playing well. Even if it is against the Colts back ups. I'm of the belief that for the most part, its better to have a team win games regardless of draft pick. That being said, is it any surprise that the Bills would win today, push themselves to 6-10 and out of the top 9 picks?! Its the Bills. Of course they would. -
Decent interview, though not much different from the PC. I will say, I like the common sense/pragmatic approach he wants to bring. And he is very on point with regards to the lack of continuity regarding the offensive/defensive approaches of the Bills. That being said, I'm not entirely sold on him. Common sense alone will not help the Bills. Creative thinking needs to be a huge part of the approach. They need someone who can not only identify talent, but who has a vision. I don't get the sense that Nix has much of a vision. And I still can't get over the fact that he is 70 years old and has yet to be employed as a GM. That comes off as very suspect IMO.

Tim Graham "Could Nix sway Schottenheimer to Bills?"

I can't see it. Why would Marty want to take on rebuilding project at his age? -
Something we may have missed from the presser
LABills08 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is an important note. I made this point countless times in posts yesterday....Brandon runs this team. Yes, he reports back to Ralph. But at least in terms of day to day management, this is Brandon's franchise. There are implications to that. -
Bills press conference @2:30-Nix confirmed as new GM

What we have found out from this PC: 1) Buddy Nix thinks he is a dumbass. 2) RW is a clown. 3) The Bills need some luck. Happy new year! -
Supposed big news announcement at 9pm

Speaking of that, really funny how Trent wanted Owens and never threw him the ball. -
I agree. Though, despite recent revelations, I would be amazed if we pull in Cowher. My pick would be McClain, just because I think he is the top defensive player available in the draft that isn't named Suh. In the end, it will all depend on who is hired. But, regardless of what the Bills SHOULD do, it will be very hard for them to pass up an offensive lineman or a QB who falls to them. BTW, does anyone else have a sneaking suspicion the Bills are going to beat the Colts?
-
If McClain and McCoy are both on the board, who do you take?
-
If the 3rd OT is the best player on the board, you take him. That is what best player available means haha. It has nothing to do with position. I'm just of the belief that DB's need to be excluded from this strategy because we don't need one.
-
Understood regarding McClain. And I would like the Bills to begin drafting some top linebackers. My biggest concern is that the Bills have proven to be awful at drafting in this range. Its a difficult spot to draft in, mainly because the teams are usually pretty bad (and deserving of a top 5 pick if not for schedule issues) and there are no longer any "can't miss talents" on the board. In other words, there are a lot of good players, but it generally depends on talent evaluators to sift through the hype and find the impact players. It need not be said that the Bills have terrible talent evaluators. Lets be honest, the Bills haven't drafted well with the number 8 pick. I also worry that the Bills will be compelled to find a LT in round 1. Much in the same way they were dead set on a DE in round 1 last year. ( I admit that I am guilty of being all for Maybin pick over Oher at the time...clearly wrong decision). If the LT they want is on the board, I'm okay with them pulling the trigger, but this is a VERY weak LT class and reaching would be a terrible move. As long as they don't draft a DB, I'm happy with BPA at 8.
-
Pretty unfortunate. It is pretty clear the Bills are one of the top 5 worst teams in the league. I'm not one to root against them (history has proven that bad teams who end the season on a high note generally start the next season well), but as matter of fact, the Bills should not be drafting anywhere higher than 7 in my opinion. But, I have a feeling that w/ the Colts resting up on Sunday and the Bills being the Bills, they will end up drafting towards the back end of the 7-10 range. Link
