is taking 2nd team snaps…behind 6th round pick Danny Batten and undrafted free agent Antonio Coleman.
Many people here are hopeful and/or predicting that Maybin will experience instant success as a rush linebacker in our new 3-4 scheme.
He was our first round draft pick last year.
Snide "bust" comments notwithstanding, isn't this more than a bit alarming that Maybin is taking snaps behind a 6th round draft pick and an undrafted free agent?!?!?
Maybe they're trying to light a fire under his ass. Either that or they think more highly of the other two players. There's not too many possible explanations out there.
Can someone clarify this? I thought he was taking 1st team snaps and was thought to be the starting OLB....

Well, Clayton is entitled to his opinion. Fair enough.
If Spiller is moving the ball on the ground well, I'll run him 30+ times. If you pay for a horse, and it turns out to be a good one - ride it.
Ride it into the ground?

Maybin was never EVER suited for DE in a 4-3.
Can you imagine some of the premiere rushing linebackers in the league playing a 4-3 DE? They would get absolutely toasted, so lets not jump to conclusions just yet.
I'm not 100% sold on Maybin working out either. He is built like a WR. But he is quick, he is strong and so long as the NT and DE's can do their part in opening up gaps, Maybin should have a chance to excel.
Give him at LEAST until game 1.

The Bills' problem, as has probably been mentioned at length on this board, is that they have 0 leverage. I think their offseason has been positive thus far and I am very impressed with their draft. That being said by not attempting to address the LT situation until now, they have put themselves in a position where everyone knows how desperate the team is for a LT. The Ravens expect the Bills to overpay in order to acquire Gaither.
-
Ouch. This tweet from Wilson just about kills this rumor.
Team officials have said they haven't received trade offers that would prompt them to move offensive tackled Jared Gaither or other players
Sorry Buffalo, looks like we're stuck with Bell.
Posturing? I believe that is exactly what the Bills said about Peters.
-
I'm happy Easley looks good. Its only day 2, but it would be nice to get another steal in Rd 4.
That being said, I'm not sure how I fell about the fact that McKelvin got toasted by a rookie who has only played 1 full season of good football.
-
That would be great news. I honestly have always been skeptical of this idea that the Bills will start the season with the LTs they have. Nix is too savvy to make the same mistake the Bills made last year.
The question is, how much will we pay him and how much will we give up? Obviously we all know he has a first round tender on him, but I doubt the Ravens will get a first round pick.
That being said, it is reasonable to expect the Ravens will want close to Jason Peters value for this guy. That easily means a 2nd round pick in 2011. Maybe we can get them to bite on Parrish too, but we are already short on WR. I expect a 3rd/4th to be in the mix as well.
The Bills won't give up their 1st rounder bc it will be considered a top 10 pick and very few players are worth that high of a draft pick. In fact, I can't remember the last time someone traded a top 10 pick for a player.
-
Ahhh, maybe you're right. They might not hit the field today. Seems odd though, every other team has held practice it feels like.
-
Any update from the Buffalo media on rookie minicamp? I'm surprised nothing has been written/said.
-
If we could have gotten a 3rd, I wish they had pulled the trigger. I don't doubt Lynch's talent. And I don't that Gailey will make good use out of him (he loves running backs). I just don't think Lynch wants to play for this team.
If only we had an Oline...

Let's walk down memory lane
Amen. I was just going to say, look at Mel Kiper's history and you will see why this C- bodes well.
-
Just wait until Spiller lines up in the slot and gets a linebacker on him.
He is going to create a lot of mismatches.
-
I like what I see in Wang.
BTW, common denominator in all of these draft picks? Work ethic. Love it.
-
You can't cut Johnson, Kelsay and Stroud b/c....well....Johnson and Stroud are our starting Ends right now in the 3-4 scheme.
Kelsay might not have a spot. But, if Schobel (and his salary) leaves that will change quickly.

If Bucs take Brown, I have to imagine Bills go QB. I want Clausen. Don't care about LT.
I will say......Seattle has to be thinking about trading up ahead of us.
-
Alright. Clearly shouldn't have said anything.
-
Okay. He was right once.
-
-
Bills can take Clausen and still move up for a LT. That would be perfect. It will just take a lot.
And if the Bills are moving up to 33 they are not moving up to get a LT.
-
It should also be mentioned that out of all the players available on draft day, IMO, only one of them has the ability to single-handedly win a game. And that is Spiller.
Spiller can get you 200 all purpose yards and a TD or 2 on gameday. Who else can do that?
-
Guys, Never give up said we would try to possibly move back up to get Thomas. He flat told us about Spiller so I have to presume he is right on Thomas.
Too bad, we would actually have TWO weapons on offense that teams would have to respect.
Who is Never give up?
-
I found it interesting too re: trying to move up.
I imagine they were thinking of moving up for Williams too. Thomas wouldn't have surprised me either and he went earlier than expected you know? Bulaga I don't think was an option. I don't think he was highly valued by the Bills.
-
They were ready to trade back into the first and had their sights on Tebow, but Denver beat them to the punch.
Ehh. I could see that. But, if the Bills were lined up with the Jets to get Tebow and Denver took him early, so be it.
I think Clausen will be the better QB. But I'm just a casual observer. Who knows.
-
I absolutely love this pick. Love it. Can't say it enough. I just hope a guy his size stays healthy. But, I honestly think he will end up being the most talented person to put on a Bills jersey since Jim Kelly. That might not be saying much, but the dude is explosive.
Peter King ranks the Bills

Call me a perennial optimist, but I think King is way off.
For all intents and purposes, the Bills have improved from last year. Not much, but incrementally better. Shoot, by just replacing Jauron with someone else they already have won 1-2 more games in my book.
I agree with King, they have no one to throw the football. And unless a WR emerges outside of Evans, there won't be many options for the QB to throw the football to. But, so long as the transition to the 3-4 goes reasonably well, I can't imagine the Bills will have a worse record than last year.
