2nd Round Selection: James Hardy WR Indiana
UticaBill replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They got lucky Hardy fell to them, but sometimes things break just right for you like that.... I really wanted the WR who went right before him, but I am very happy with Hardy too. I thought Maybe we would package a 3rd and a 4th to move back in at the bottom of the round.... -
7th Round Selection: Steve Johnson WR Kentucky
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Camp injuries can easily clear room.... let's not forget that... and if you're more surprised than you'd hoped there is also trades and other moves... PS would be for a guy who is RAW but has the physical skills to start if they develop.... or at least become journeymen. -
That's just it.... they aren't great centers, and their athleticism makes them nice potential guards..... PLUS it means they have potential backup centers and LS already on the roster giving them flexibility to carry only 7 lineman (A new NFL trend).....Swingmen are the rage!

4th Round Selection 2: Derek Fine TE Kansas

OK, the kid is versatile.... he's another schouman -
6th Round Selection: Xavier Omon RB NWMO
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, yes, yes.... We all know the mantra.... Day one is for starters and Day two is for Backups and Projects....(and STers for the Bills) I am thinking with Bobby April losing four Very good STers to FA this season he was given four picks on day two to close the holes.... that is the only way I can see this draft making any sense really.... I know we got some good prospects... -
7th Round Selection: Steve Johnson WR Kentucky
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Reed could be gone, but its more likely the Bills will try to stash this kid away on the PS and go with veteran WR's for this year and maybe next.... There is a HUGE difference playing WR in the NFL from any level of college.... WR is one of the harder to re-learn positions and often takes 2-3 years to even start... -
7th Round Selection: Kennard Cox CB PITT

Camp fodder -
4th Round Selection: Reggie Corner CB, Akron
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see us keeping 6 DBs and 4 safeties.... Plus an STer...(Maybe not) Starters (Initially) - McGee and Greer with James as Nickel back and Mckelvin/Corner/youboty as Dime backs.... with reserves being the two that lost the Dime spot. After the BYE I think our Starters might look more like....McKelvin and Mcgee with Greer/james in the nickel and whomever loses out in the dime... I think Wendling will be the STer we carry.... if we do... -
Thanks for the link. I feel a little better somehow... I only gave us a B

Grade the Bills overall draft
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some questionable choices considering the needs and stated wants, but they also did fine some players, so it still makes us better... and deeper.... so I'll give it a B that little stumble in rds 4-5 can make it a B+ or a B- depending how they work out. Hardy will be the #2, but somehow I think Josh Reed will be the better receiver this season at least.... and there is no vertical TE to stretch underneath... but that DEFENSE looks all shiny and new! -
4th Round Selection 2: Derek Fine TE Kansas

YEAH! a Blocking tight end / Half back!!! Finally the Bills front office wakes up and fills a need!!!! WoOoooOOooOOoT! NOT! -
6th Round Selection: Xavier Omon RB NWMO
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
?WTF? I got nothing against the kid, but we NEEDED another RB? REALLY?!?! This kid had better be the second coming of Ronnie Harmon! -
5th Round Selection: Alvin Bowen LB ISU
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now they take the OLB and another smaller guy without great speed.... if you wanted an OLB then you should have grabbed a good one at #114!!!!! This should have been out FB pick!!!! Grr.... Yesterday was good and today is fizzeling.... I do like this kid, so I guess I won't complain too much for a 5th.... -
4th Round Selection: Reggie Corner CB, Akron
UticaBill replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This pick made the least sense to me.... the kid is a ball hawking smurf, but at the time There were very good OLBs and TEs available which seemingly fit much better than another corner who might be 5th or 6th on the team, while a TE or OLB would at least be a #2 or 3.... THEN with the 5th round pick you can afford to go get FB Owen Schmitt.... The team is misfiring badly today... they had their chances at getting much better players at positions that were thinner in depth.... I have no problem with a CB somewhere later on.... Funny thing is.... then with the 6th pick we take a RB! ??WTF?? I am trying to have faith in the scout team but this just makes so little sense to me! -
I grab those online pics too, except I set them up for my screen saver slide show!

Did you guys know that the draft is at 3 this year?!
UticaBill replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They start the draft at 3pm to allow workers to get home and they shortened the rounds so that it should not last any longer than it used to and they will hopefully end it (or switch to ESPN2) at 8ish with the draft not going on past 9pm EDT. -
Stop hammering on this guy.... he quit that joint and he changes oil now!
-
If we are taking a QB to be groomed, then you want something better than a 6th or 7th rounder! Taking a QB that late is a PROJECT for the long term.... I see us taking a QB, but as camp fodder/3rd string material with maybe long term potential.... and I see us getting a veteran QB next year to BU Edwards.... you do want you backup to have experience....
-
Why that's a slap in my face! What are they try to tell me by drafting a RB in the 1st round when they gotz me?!?! I understand your point but that has been done before with bad results.....
-
I don't like the idea of getting Lito Sheppard, but I wouldn't mind getting their 1st and 2nd for our #11 That is pretty close value and the team that suggests the trade usually "pays" about 50pts more for the privilege so its interesting... It could also be our #11 for their #19 and next year's 1st rounder which is also of similar value..... This sounds like one of those deals where the Eagles sit tight and wait to see if their "Guy" is at #11 and call to consumate the deal.

More evidence that JP should be the starter
UticaBill replied to keepthefaith's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am a huge JP supporter, but I wasn't blind to what I saw from TE in the preseason and I wasn't blind to the efficiency TE moved the chains once he took over... he has the one thing JP has lacked as a starter, the ability to keeps the chains moving.... Maybe we get even more from TE this year, or maybe he flops, we shall see, but TE has done everything a backup should do, and earned himself a starting position last year. JP is usually at his best when challenged, but he seems to not be able to sustain the energy level and gets lazy. He is up for a contract, if he wants starter money, then he had better out play TE in the preseason and EARN his job back, otherwise when the FA opens he's going to be surprised how thin the air is out there..... as I said, I am a JP supporter, I liked the Kid, and would love for him to do well either here or elsewhere, but JP has lost his job to a Rookie and says a lot about where JP is in his development right there..... I know he's had hardships and new offenses to learn and coaching turnover and a line that was still jelling.... but he lost his job to a ROOKIE at the hardest position in football!!!! Trent out played JP, not by much, but what does that say about JP??? He's NOT a rookie anymore, and he'll be in his 3rd year with the same offense for the first time.... he has NO EXCUSES not to go out there and earn his job right back from TE... and if he can't... Then support Trent and stop trying to drive a wedge into the team you claim to love.
