With the Jackson to Minnesota deal dead
Got_Wood replied to JM57's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Evans is a team first guy who doesn't hold out. Jackson is. Evans has a clean record. Jackson has had several off the field issues. Evans also produces with crappy QB's, and I can only imagine what he would do with a good quarterback throwing to him every week. Yes, he should be worth a 1st, or two later picks. What don't you understand about the second part? A 2nd and a 3rd is better than just a second. Wrap that around your head for a minute. -
10 things I would love to see this week
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know, I was initially going to say 300. But then I thought about it, and even 200 seemed like it would feel good at this point. I love hearing from downers like you. You should work for this team, you'd fit right in to the front office. -
Vincent Jackson is not coming to Buffalo
Got_Wood replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's not entirely true. Teams can still trade for him until the trade deadline in October. They just won't let him take the field until his 6 game suspension is served. This deadline was going to allow him to play earlier than that. -
1. 200+ yards passing by a Buffalo QB. Come on Fitz, you can do it! 2. The wildcat with Freddy at QB and Marshawn/Spiller should continue. We seem to get good yardage out of this look every time. 3. I'd love to see David Nelson emerge as our #2 WR. I think he's got the skills to do it, and his rapport with Fitzpatrick can only help. 4. I'd love to see Corey McIntyre flat back Jerod Mayo. That guys getting cocky, and needs a good wake up call. 5. An interception by Byrd on a deep route to Moss. 6. Taking away Welker's stupid little pick play routes underneath. Especially near the endzone when he does the sprint out wide and beats a linebacker for a score. We have good enough and fast enough DB's to take care of this guy. 7. Aaron Maybin needs to sack Tom Brady. I might be delusional on this one, but that would be a BIG confidence booster for this guy (not that he's lacking confidence). 8. I wouldn't mind seeing Ellis prove that he can start over Kelsay as well. Kelsay has had all the time in the world to prove he can play on this team, and he continues to show he's a liability. 9. Trade one of our RB's, and get a position of need or a draft pick that can help this team with in the future. We know this is not our season, and we need all of the help we can get. 10. A win. I think we can do it. New England is short on RB's, their defense is full of young players, and we've got some great defensive backs to take away the deep passing game. Let's steal one this week!
-
That was amazing!!! You remember Adams doing the Deion Sanders high step into the endzone? That was a fun defense to watch.
-
I think Sammy Morris is playing in his place. Whitner should remember getting run over by him last season and getting his shoulder torn up. Let's see if he tries to get revenge this week. They still have a decent stable of backs in Morris, Taylor, and Green-Ellis. But our backs are 10 times better. I hope we take advantage of that.
-
These guys are down to 2 players at RB for this weekend's game. I have a feeling this defense will step up big this weekend. It's all on our offense to show up on the road. No more bowing down to the Pats. we aren't going down without a fight.

With the Jackson to Minnesota deal dead
Got_Wood replied to JM57's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once again, it's supply and demand folks. Minnesota has a big need at WR. Evans is a borderline #1 WR, especially on a team with a good QB. There aren't guys like Evans available on the market. Therefore the demand for Evans goes UP. Regardless of the inferiority complex most Bills fans have, our players have value. We should get a 1st rounder for Evans, or at the least a 2nd AND 3rd or 4th. Remember guys, James Hardy and Malcolm Kelly were 2nd rounders. Is that the risk you want to take in giving up Evans? I think not. You either get quality players in return, or you get high draft picks for proven players in this league. And that is a fact. -
Lets draft another flashy running back for 2011
Got_Wood replied to DieHardBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as I like Buddy Nix, I think there was a bit of arrogance on his part in passing up on Tim Tebow and Jimmy Clausen. It was obvious to every Bills fan in the country that our QB of the future was not on the roster. It should have been obvious to a guy who was in our scouting department last season, and to Modrak who has watched these guys play over the past couple years. There is always a chance that guys like Tebow and Clausen don't pan out as NFL QB's, but there are no certainties in this league. It would have showed the fans that they mean business by cleaning house a bit more. Trent needed a fresh start somewhere else, and we all knew that. We could have let Fitz or Brohm take over this season with a new QB on the bench developing his skills and watching the pro game. But we opted not to do that. We could have added a receiver to the mix after losing TO, but we opted not to do that. We could have drafted an OT in the first three rounds of the draft, but we decided against that. Pretty odd to not address the needs of one of the worst offenses in the league last season. Especially since touchdowns are what puts fans in the seats. I certainly hope the decisions from this point forward get better. I'm not ready to start pointing fingers at the head coach or GM again quite yet. -
Trade a RB, sign Chad Simpson as the 3rd
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well there goes that idea. Looks like Washington snagged him. Chad Simpson would have been a nice 3rd guy on this team considering his kickoff return abilities. I bet New England or Green Bay jump on Larry Johnson quickly now that he's on the market. -
Take a hard look at this game log of Kevin Kolb's career. There is nothing there to make anyone believe this guy is a good QB. The Eagles paid him big money because of what they saw in practice. I doubt they're even going to trade him to begin with, but it would be foolish to bank on this guy being the next franchise QB. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8290/gamelog;_ylt=AnTyO5C1sx01EiSvwAibbKz.uLYF

Not even close to a "Brohm Boy". The fact is, he's never had a shot since college. Aaron Rodgers was going to be the guy in Green Bay no matter what. So he was trying out for a backup role. Yeah Flynn beat him, but neither of those guys saw the field in a real game either. He's looked decent in preseason action as far as I can see. There would be no reason not to give him a shot unless Gailey sees starting potential in Fitzpatrick. It almost seems to me that Nix and Gailey didn't watch the tape from last year at all. Because the spot we're in right now is all too predictable for the fans. Just looking for a glimmer of hope in all of this mess.

His ability to pass is undeniable. Edwards and Fitz could only dream of the numbers he had in college. I can only imagine it's a chemistry/leadership thing in Gailey's decision. I feel like that is why he started Edwards. He saw how Edwards was talking to guys in the offseason and preparing like a starter. However, he didn't know how to play like a starter. Here's a nice quote about Brohm (note the completion % as well): "Brian Brohm started 33 games at Louisville. He closed out his career as the Big East Conference's all-time leader in passing yardage, becoming the first player in league history to throw for over 10,000 yards (10,775) He finished second on the UL career list with 780 pass completions and 1,185 pass attempts, as his completion percentage (.658) is the fifth-best mark among NCAA quarterbacks active last season. He compiled a 24-9 record as a starter for the Cardinals." http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/brian-brohm?id=198

It would have been nice to come out of the gates this year with a new QB. Trent was just a grim reminder of past failure. I've posted this before, but it would have been a great idea for this organization to cut bait with Trent before the season started. If you're trying to start fresh with a rebuilt team, you can't change by staying the same. We literally came out this year with the same offensive unit as last year other than Spiller and Green. We needed some fresh bodies on the O-line, and someone with experience behind center at the QB position. Didn't get either.

Trade a RB, sign Chad Simpson as the 3rd
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, I'll respond to each of your comments: 1. We wouldn't be dumping one of our highly talented backs for Simpson. We would be trading one of our highly talented backs for another "highly talented" player at another position. Whether that be O-line, pass rusher, LB, etc. Big difference. We're hurting in many areas. 2. A backup is a backup. No team in this league can afford to lose one of their top guys. If your star player gets hurt, you're out of luck. As an example, if LeBron got hurt while he was on the Cavs, their season would be done. If Albert Pujols gets hurt for the Cards, they're in deep trouble. No professional team keeps star backup players as insurance. The Dolphins keep two good back on their roster because they use them on the field at the same time regularly in the wildcat. Three good RB's is not a smart place to be. Especially when you have som many other areas in need of help. Thanks for the feedback, I think you've got legitimate thoughts on this situation. -
Annual Ryan Fitzpatrick has a huge head thread

Trade a RB, sign Chad Simpson as the 3rd
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree on both of your statements. 1. Spiller hasn't proven anything yet, BUT we spent a high pick on him and by all indications he is going to be a very good player. Anything can happen, but he's got the wheels to make things happen. AND once again, Simpson is good enough to be a 3rd back. He didn't make the roster because we're overloaded at the position. 2. You can't find guys with Edwards experience in the 7th round. I would rather put Edwards in the game any day before some 7th rounder if the playoffs were on the line. -
Trade a RB, sign Chad Simpson as the 3rd
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought this was a little different than the rumor thread. People seem to be worried about not having depth if we trade one RB. Well, we still have TWO really RB's and Chad Simpson played great in the preseason. At least good enough to be our 3rd stringer. And seriously, we need to end Trent's tenure here. Windows of opportunity happen rarely in this league. The Jaguars are in need of a backup... send him over there. -
No team in this league needs 3 starting quality RB's on the roster. For all of those "what if one gets injured" people out there, it doesn't matter. No one has the luxury to worry about two RB's getting injured. What if Tom Brady got injured? The Pats are screwed. What if Adrian Peterson got injured? Minnesota is screwed. That's the nature of this league. Especially if you're a mediocre team, you can't afford to hold on to good players as insurance guys. While we're at it, trade Edwards to Jacksonville for a 7th. Their backup McCown just went down for the season.

My ultimate trade between SD and Buf
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's actually the most legitimate argument to not do this trade. You actually make sense. My main arguments in this thread are with people that don't think our players are good enough for other teams. We've got talent, we just don't have the program that knows how to win. But you're completely right that Evans and Whitner are all about the Bills. They've been through some crappy years with this team and they stay loyal. -
My ultimate trade between SD and Buf
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand some people. Why wouldn't the Bills pull off a trade? Guess what? The Seattle Seahawks have traded on TEN different occasions alone this offseason. Some of them, pretty significant moves. You're telling me Buffalo can't pull of ONE? And we're talking about players that the Chargers don't even have on their roster right now. ANYTHING is better than nothing for them. They could potentially lose both of these guys and get nothing in return after this season. -

Maybe we should. You should be a GM. You're creativity is unbelievable. -
My ultimate trade between SD and Buf
Got_Wood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, that's just not the case. They would rather have McNeill playing in a heartbeat. And because Jackson wasn't on the field, Antonio Gates got double and even triple teamed at many points in this game. Our guys in SD would be a huge lift to that team. -
Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot about that. That is really strange, because Trent's the last guy on the team that I would think runs his mouth to other teams.
