Brett Favre might be in some hot water...
Got_Wood replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again, it's two years later. There's something wrong with that. Remember, the NFL isn't "just a game". It's a business. In fact, one of the most profitable businesses in the world. And you have all of the gambling associated with the games as well. Lots of money to be had swaying games one way or the other. -
Brett Favre might be in some hot water...
Got_Wood replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone else find it odd that a swarm of bad press goes out against Brett Favre from former Jets employees, the week the Vikings are scheduled to play the Jets??? I'm not sure why anyone would go to such great lengths just to win a football game, but this smells a little rotten to me. How does this stuff that happened back in 2008 come out all of a sudden? It seems like the Jets are the anointed Super Bowl darlings of this season. This is beyond strange, and I'm not a conspiracy theorist. -
They could be fixed. But the mistakes were already made. I'm not saying that Nix has failed in rebuilding. I'm just saying that these are some of the things I wish they didn't do along the way. I still have hope for this group. I really wish we had a Green Bay ownership structure. If you think about it like a publicly held company, there is no way the shareholders would stand for this type of perpetual losing and poor management. We would force the hand of the team into making educated decisions, and the fate of the franchise would rest with the city of Buffalo in the drivers seat. I can only dream...

1. He reportedly had a "vanilla" scheme and showed very little creativity when he coached Washington's defense. I'm seeing the same thing here. He might be a great teacher and know all of the fundamentals of football, but it takes a very bright and experienced guy to run an entire defense. 2. You're sort of right on Schobel. I think a lot of fans knew he would be done if we switched to the 3-4 though. And there was one team that might have taken him in (Houston) if we had traded him before the holdout. That's not the worst of the three guys though. Trent and Kelsay should have been gone. 3. Like I said, Spiller is a good pick. But we weren't thinking about the future by holding on to all 3 of these guys. We just said "it's the strength of our team", and moved on. And in the end, there was always one guy not being involved in the game plan each week. It just wasn't smart.

1. Upgraded Offensive coaching, downgraded Defensive coaching We hired a decent head coach. Good offensive mind, and he has a system that he likes to run. BUT... if our head coach is going to run the offense, we better bring in a PROVEN defensive coordinator that has proven success to run the defense. Especially when you're switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme. But we failed pretty badly here in hiring a guy that was a linebackers coach, and had a bad resume in one season as a DC. Chan needs to focus on rejuvenating this offense, and not helping out his inexperienced defensive coordinator pull the pieces together. 2. We didn't remove the former duds from the roster If you want to start fresh, you can't come into the season with the same personnel as last season. You have to get rid of the guys that remind everyone of the old losing days, and bring in some fresh legs. The guys I'm talking about specifically are: - Trent Edwards (should have been gone before the season started) - Chris Kelsay (been around too long, and now he's going to be around even longer ) - Aaron Schobel (Should have traded him before his hold out debacle, especially when switching to a 3-4 defense. Now we get nothing in return for losing a good player) 3. Draft strategy this year (specifically round 1) It's not that Spiller wasn't a good pick, because he's going to be a great player. But this was one of our strongest positions on the team. And unfortunately the front office decided to hold on to Marshawn and Fred all the way into this season, and we now have to wait until the next draft to get players in return for the trade we just finally made. We could have really used a pass rusher or offensive tackle in this draft that we could have developed this season. Here's to things looking up from this point forward
-
Man, that 2006 draft was one of the most frustrating events I've ever watched. Haloti Ngata falls into our lap, and we take Whitner. Then we trade up for McCargo and everyone has no idea what to say about it. Unbelievable.
-
The Houston Texans could use Stroud. They're trying to win now, and their DT's are fairly weak. Same in Chicago. Their DT's are not good. Send him over there. Stroud and our 5th for Chicago's 3rd.
-
I don't like this idea. I would rather see us trade big big Marcus Stroud for a decent pick and have Carrington, Johnson, and McCargo as reserves. Just my opinion.
-
I know, and it's really frustrating. I think a lot of people had us taking Pettigrew at that spot, and I wouldn't have argued with that pick. And the rumor is that Modrak wanted Brian Cushing over Maybin. Either way we would have been better off. So WTF happened???
-
I don't want to give Maybin any credit, because he doesn't deserve any. But he does deserve a little time. And regarding Edwards, from everything I've read and heard about the guy, he is a great technique guy and a teacher. But he doesn't scheme well and plays a vanilla defense that opposing offenses find easy to read. This was from back in his Washington defensive coordinator days.

I think the Patriots knew that their run at Superbowls was over with the personnel that they had, and it was time to rebuild. But the great thing about their rebuilding process is that they have been able to stay competitive during the transition. And during this stage, they have added great young guys in Julian Edelman, Brandon Tate, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Sebastian Vollmer, Jerrod Mayo, Patrick Chung, Darius Butler, and Brandon Spikes. Smart coach/GM combo over there.

Let me just copy what I said earlier in this thread... "- Why are the 3-4 outside linebackers constantly in a FOUR-POINT stance???? Maybin, Coleman, Ellis, and Kelsay should all be standing in a TWO-POINT stance as pass rushers. Especially when you have a speedy guy like Maybin. He can't take offensive tackles on head-to-head, but he can beat them around the edge when lined up wide." I don't think Edwards or Sanders know what they're doing with this defense. Maybin looks pathetic running into offensive lines head-to-head, but he could be much more effective in a two-point stance running around the edge with space to move. It's beyond stupid watching this crap go on out there.
-
New England has employed this strategy twice now, and I think it's a great way to get better value in return. In the Maroney trade, they received a 4th, and gave up a 6th. In the Moss trade, they received a 3rd and gave up a 7th. I think this is one way we could have gotten more back for Lynch. If we had said we'll give you a 5th or 6th with Lynch, we might have gotten a 3rd from Green Bay. I thought this was an interesting way to maximize trade value. Especially since those late rounders are much less likely to pan out as good players down the road.

I honestly do question our defensive coaching. We have only 2 sacks from defensive lineman. And we have ZERO interceptions this year. Our guys constantly look lost in their assignments on game day, and opposing offenses are eating us alive. - Why are the 3-4 outside linebackers constantly in a FOUR-POINT stance???? Maybin, Coleman, Ellis, and Kelsay should all be standing in a two-point stance as pass rushers. Especially when you have a speedy guy like Maybin. He can't take offensive tackles on head-to-head, but he can beat them around the edge when lined up wide. - Why not rush more guys and ask our corners like McKelvin and McGee to play man coverage? We have the secondary to do this. We can get a lot more pressure on opposing QB's, but we refuse to do it. Lots of questions with this team this year. But the defense was supposed to be a lot better than they are. It's really disappointing.
-
Maybin has been, by all accounts, invisible thus far on the Buffalo Bills. But I think a lot of people (scouts, coaches) knew this was the case when he entered the draft. I question why we would have made this pick in the draft since we had supposedly already gone through rebuilding with Jauron and Levy. But that is in the past and we can't change it. Here are the most important quotes I took from what scouts said about Maybin: 1. "Maybin came out of high school weighing only 220 pounds, but has already added 26 pounds of muscle. He has the frame to add more bulk without losing any speed, which is something NFL scouts will be looking at." 2. "Maybin took full advantage of his starting role this season, having tallied 49 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and even breaking up 3 passes in coverage." 3. "Maybin will likely be one of the top defensive end taken this spring, but NFL teams will likely have to wait for him to develop. He can help a team as a third down pass rush specialist in the beginning, but if he reaches his potential he could be a future NFL sacks leader." Hold off on the criticism. I actually think he could be used more effectively than he is RIGHT NOW, and Edwards isn't putting him in those situations. And I also think he needs to add some bulk to his frame in order to not get pushed around by larger tackles. It would be very foolish to trade away / cut last years 1st rounder just yet. Be patient.

Everyone got what they wanted in trading Lynch...
Got_Wood replied to Booger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All of those guys are still providing complementary roles on their team, and that is all Freddy needs to do. We've committed big money to Spiller, and he's the go to guy. -
Adam_Schefter "The second pick Buffalo received in today's trade is a 6th rounder in 2012 that can go to a 5th based on Marshawn Lynch's productivity."

Fred Taylor is almost 35 Ricky Williams is 33 Sammy Morris is 33 Thomas Jones is 32 LT is 31 Chester Taylor is 31 Ronnie Brown is 29 Clinton Portis is 29 Willis McGahee is 29 There are plenty of older guys still playing out there. Freddy will help this team out for 4-5 more years. Even if he helped us for 2-3, that is a LONG time in the NFL. Remember, Freddy was an undrafted guy. We can find more RB's when the time comes. But we're good for a long time. -
Now THAT is funny

[closed]Bills Fourth Round Picks
Got_Wood replied to NaPolian8693's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We could also use this pick to trade up. Our high 3rd plus one of the 4th rounders could get us another high second rounder. -

I will add that trading Lynch and extending Kelsay would NOT have been something I would have wanted to do.
