  1. I think if your argument is based solely on looking up his senior year stat line (9 career TDs), you don't have much to stand on. If you put a little more research into the prospects like a lot of people on this board have, you will realize that Pettigrew is a tremendous talent who could vastly help the Bills (and this opinion is coming from a guy that truly believes you need to build a football team in the trenches).
  2. Unquestionably. I could rattle off several concerns for any of the top linebackers, including Cushing (durability concerns, lack of position identity, limited college production) and Maualuga (overly aggressive, coverage ability, past off the field indescretions). When people refer to Curry as a "safe" pick, that should be mistaken as settling for someone. He is a very complete football player.
  3. The only one that would make my head explode would be Curry, because he is one of the few players in this draft head and shoulders above the rest at his position. I just couldn't forgive them for passing. Aside from him, I have my favorites in this draft, but I wouldn't be upset if they went in a different direction.
  4. I'll bring two nooses and join you
  5. I completely agree. I think people assume you take a guy like Cook, Nelson or Ingram in the second round, plug him in at TE and go. But that is a fantasy. These guys are all playing in spread offenses and have become glorified receivers. You need a true tight end. Pettigrew would be a versatile addition to the Bills.
  6. Well, after what we'll call the "Whitner Incident," I believe Bills fans have to keep their heads on a swivel to prepare themselves, as a fan, for the draft. Leading up, you will ultimately hear a lot of the same names linked to the Bills due to team weaknesses perceived by the fans (Orakpo, Maybin, Ayers, Cushing, Oher, etc.). But at the end of the day, they have their own targets and I think Delmas fits the profile of a guy they want on their defense. So I guess that's where it comes from. This "instinct" never existed before the "Whitner Incident." It just so happens to be a coincidence that it's coming into play with another safety.
  7. Just look at the top dogs in the AFC... Patriots - Ben Watson (first round) Steelers - Heath Miller (first round) Ravens - Todd Heap (first round) Colts - Dallas Clark (first round) Titans - Bo Scaife (franchise tagged) Chargers - Antonio Gates (major difference maker) And then you look at the perrenial bottom dwellers... Buffalo, Cincinnati, Oakland. The last first round pick taken amongst these three is probably Ricky Dudley by Oakland. I'm not saying taking a first round TE automatically makes you better, but the teams that actually matter in the NFL seem to think it's a good way of building a team.
  8. I have no reasons other than my instinct to suggest this, but if Louis Delmas is still available at 28, I think the Bills will take him. Whether I agree with the pick or not (I would not be terribly upset), I can assure you they will say he had so much value that late and they've really loved him all along. Just saying...
  9. Yeah, that's a great point, because Derek Fine (4th round), Derek Schouman (7th round), and Tim Euhus (4th round) are stud TEs
  10. It is definitely not Curry. He is a much better fit as a 4-3 lineback. I would bet money that it is Pettigrew or Orakpo, if the report is true.
  11. I love how Kiper says, "when you look at..." about 41,895 times during the telecast.
  12. I think it is definitely 50/50 between Pettigrew and Wells/Moreno at 21 for Philadelphia. Even though TE is a more pressing need, they may have a shot at getting the top RB in the draft. It's a tough call. It should be interesting to see what happens, that's for sure.
  13. Tyson Jackson at 11 is less likely than trading our first round pick to the Packers for Duke Preston
  14. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9490416...alez-to-Falcons They were a major threat ahead of us in the 20s for Pettigrew
  15. I don't even think Johnson will be there at 28, let alone 42
  16. That is such a weak argument against him. Look at any scouting report on Mario Williams coming out, and you'll find the same thing. I'm not saying that Orakpo is the next Williams, but I'm saying that a lot of times you will see that as a generic weakness with these complete DEs.
  17. As for moving him from RE to LE, it's not like moving a guy from safety to linebacker. There will certainly be some changes, but nothing extraordinary. And where did you hear he was "brutal" at the combine? His measurables were great. Are you sure you're not confused with Andre Smith or something? I respect your opinion, but I think there are more red flags associated with Brown than Orakpo.
  18. According to several reports, Tyson Jackson has vaulted into the Top 5 selections. So that should bump another person back to us to choose from.
  19. I get amped up every year for the draft. It's Christmas in April for me. Last year I posted photos of the 4' X 8' board that I created to list the prospects. In other words, it's a big deal for me and my friends. So after three months of studying all of the scouting sources available to us, I've finally narrowed my choice down. Usually I will pick a few positions of need and then my top player (for the Bills, at least). Last year, my choices were DT Sedrick Ellis. DE Derrick Harvy, and CB Leodis McKelvin. This year, I have selected one player: DE Brian Orakpo (thank you, Todd McShay, for stealing my thunder in your latest mock ) I use a lot of variable to determine the best fit for the Bills, and obviously the guy that I think will be productive in the NFL. I look back over past year's scouting reports, and find common weaknesses and busts and common strengths in positives. Obviously, it's not a perfect science, but it is certainly interesting. Without going into excessive detail, here are a few things I like about Orakpo: - Incredible athlete - Good college production in a big conference (about 22 sacks over three seasons, despite missing a few games his junior year) - Great character - Perfect size - Excellent workouts If Vernon Gholston never existed, we would not be leery of Orakpo as a pro prospect. I don't necessarily think it's fair to compare them to one another just because Orakpo is an athletic freak. Trust me on this one: If Orakpo falls to us at 11 (which I'm believing he will not, but I'm hopeful nonetheless), he needs to be the guy.
  20. These comments from the Eagles are HYSTERICAL: “There have been league MVP’s, Super Bowl champion quarterbacks, and perennial Pro Bowlers who have been in a similar situation. All of their teams have required them to wait until their contract expired or there was only one year remaining before any adjustment took place. It is only in the most extraordinary, in fact, less than a handful of circumstances in the last ten years that any players two new years into a contract with three years left have been adjusted. We don’t think this qualifies as an extraordinary circumstance." Someone needs to send a memo to the Eagles front office and tell them that they JUST DID exactly what they are chastising
  21. Um, Donte was Marv's first draft selection.
  22. That's not true. Even first rounders (outside of the top ten) receive modest salaries. Peters is still making around $4M, so we could easily afford to pay three first rounders and the rest of our picks.
  23. I think you have to realize it's not about the money. Just because we've heard of the player before, that does not mean we should sign him. The Bills probably decided that despite his low price-tag, they would be better off bringing in someone else (whether it be a vet or a rookie). You bring guys in for a visit to determine whether or not they're a fit. He obviously wasn't. If he was, they would have signed him to a deal like that.
