  1. If they can't trade down (which I seriously doubt), they might as well take Gabb or Newt. See what happens.
  2. As I am unimpressed with any position player at #3 in the draft, I am not at all averse to the Bills taking a QB. Think about it; what is newton's upside? Sure, he could be Jamarcus Russell, but he could - from what I've seen - be a much better Donavan McNabb, and I've seen people on this board wanting to spend first round picks on McNabb for the last ten years or so. Newton could be a McNabb, a Vick, a better Randall Cunningham, a Steve Young without the brains but better size, a guy that Belichick and fatso in NY just might have problems defending. Sure, it would take him a few years, but in the meantime all the Fitz-lovers would be happy anyway. People would still btch that we didn't pick some DT or LB instead. Why? Newton could be THE ANSWER and to me that's worth a shot.
  3. Gotta agree with the ILB need as being #1. But who in this draft is any good? That's the big question.
  4. We have seen that Poz is a)injury-prone b) can't cover c) has very little range and d) isn't really a big smacker. Fact is, he is just a below-average inside linebacker no matter where you put him. Since his contract is up, I would have no priblem with either letting go or signing him for backup money. In the meantime, we need to draft some linebackers who can play inside beside either Coleman or Batten, somebody who is big and has range... a Patrick Willis, like the real one we were one pick away from getting when Marv was "GM". Who is that guy... I don't know if there is a great one coming out this year.
  5. All you need to do to answer this good question is look at Green Bay's QB. He sat and he sat, but last year they came close and this year they are in the SB. It would be nice to get a Bradford, but since Luck isn't in this year's draft, I'd be happy to have Newton or Gabbert sit and learn for 2-3 years. Even a Bradford isn't going to take Buffalo anywhere next year, so what's the problem? Get the damn quarterback while you have the third pick.
  6. I like your #5 point. Watching him play in his bowl game, he did alright, but seemed too short and stocky to be anything but a 4-3 tackle. And we are drafting for the 3-4 scheme this year, according to Nix. When you pick at #3, you can't be picking mis-fits. Unfortunately that doesn't leave a lot of choice this year. Hopefuly, they can trade down.
  7. Get something decent (3rd round pick?) for Evans before or during the draft and I won't be so unhappy to hear Green's name.
  8. It's true. Even the NFL Network guys (or at least Mayock) were cursing under their breath because Chan was so far behind the North's coaches in getting his guys ready. We'll see tomorrow. I'd bet on the North.
  9. the article is correct. When the Bills were briefly good, they had a 3-pronged plan: 1. K-gun...fast-paced, no-huddle offense that was pretty basic so kelly could handle it but one that kept the defense from substituting. That's a clean PLAN. 2. A bendbutdon'tbreak defense (that I hated...since they could never get off the field on 3rd downs...god I hated Walt Corey). But at least it was a PLAN and they had Bruce and Cornelius to vandalize QBs. It didn't work in Super Bowls, but it got them there 4 times. 3. Special emphasis on ST, including keep specialized talent on the roster that weakened the defense but gave us a great advantage regarding field position. In other words, it was a PLAN. This is maybe what led to Bob D's article; there is no plan, per se, though at least Buddy has come out and said things like "we're drafting strictly for a 3-4 defense and we're looking for bigger linebackers". It's an emphasis, but it still isn't like teams that look for certain types of players, like, say, Le beau does in pittsburgh for his zone blitzes. I'm waiting for the day when national commentators say something about Buffalo's famous ___________, meaning a special kind of D, O or even ST.
  10. If you take Green, you don't need Evans, so you only take Green if you have a trade arranged for little Lee or you just plan to cut his rich ass.
  11. Nix was interviewed at yesterday's practice in Mobile and the first thing he said was "I want to do a little politikin" He went on to say it was dumb not to include the declared Juniors in the Senior Bowl. Some will say, "Hey Buddy, it's the SENIOR Bowl!" but I think he is right. Why bother sending your entire staff to Mobile (except for Wanny) when you don't get a chance to see the best players? Buddy and Chan would have had a great advantage see at first hand and coaching guys like Fairley, Dareus, Mallett and Newton, to just mention a few. A lot of the seniors they have to coach wouldn't even have made the squad. They are essentially coaching mid to late-rounders, with a few exceptions. In any case, old Buddy wasn't shy about ruffling the feathers of BOTH the Senior Bowl organizers and the NFL. When the interview was over, none of those brilliant NFL Networks dudes had a word to say about it, because they know on which side their bread is buttered. Never heard anyone else make this point before, so good on you, Buddy.
  12. From what I have seen - and I could be completely wrong - but the North's players and the Cinci coaches are doing a much more agressive job than Chan and his boys. Could be a 4-13 season for the Bills coaching staff. When the North is going full out in pads, the South is going half-speed.
  13. Yeah, Jordan and Ballard are not the Maylock Top 5 list, but after Practice today, MM mentioned these two as among the few that really impressed him so far this week. They are wreaking havoc on the Olinemen in one-on-ones. Carimi looks really good, as does Nate Solder. Do we really not need a top tackle at #3 because they guys are good?
  14. Been watching the Senior Bowl pratices too and pretty much agree with Miller that Colin K and Dalton are the only ones who have shown much, and even then only enough to be 2nd or 3rd round picks. Locker is just horribly inaccurate. How can you change that? Mallett and Newton have to be better than these seniors. Haven't seen Gabbert yet. Colin K can slide out that pocket and run better than anyone, even Newton. Would not mind him in Buffalo at all.
  15. Mark Gaughn quoted Buddy as saying we are definitely drafting for 3-4 defense, we need another QB and "gotta get bigger at linebacker". He says you can't keep changing defensive schemes every year, so they are sticking with the 3-4 (thank god). Says we ended up playing "225-230 pound" linebackers by the end of the season and "gotta get bigger there." Whether it's through free agency or the draft or just counting on merriman, it shows that he knows how the team needs to improve. As far as QB is concerned, says they have been going research on Newton and "have two more months" to answer all the questions about him.
  16. Agree. We drafted Troupe and Carrington last year. Nix said yesterday we are drafting for the 3-4. How many DTs do you need in a 3-4? So, unless Fairley is there at 3, we go elsewhere. Too bad no LB is worth drafting this high, because that's what we really need. Hopefully, we take a QB in the first and ;inebackers in 2 through 4.
  17. Harris for sure and any other friggin LB out there. Definitely no Locker, Jake...in any round. He couldn't hit a barn door with a snowball.
  18. Guess you didn't watch yesterday. Scott played a fantastic game.
  19. Obviously, you need it all. Steelers have defensive playmakers plus Big Ben and a running game. Packers have defensive playmakers, a top QB and a running game. Bills have NO defensive playmakers, a journeyman QB and a running game. One of three = 4-12. You need all three. eg Bruce, Biscuit, Talley; Kelly; Thurman.
  20. OK, OK. so we've got the GM and coaches. Now we need some gdam STARS on the field and right now we have exactly ZERO...that's right...ZERO!
  21. It makes me laugh. The Browns board is loving on Dick jauron and said from the start that they didn't want DW. Now that DW is in Buffalo, they are REALLY happy they got Jauron instead! Meanwhile, here everyone is praising Allah over a guy the Browns didn't want! Hilarious...football fans are hilarious.
  22. Now all we need is four linebackers worth coaching.
