  1. In all seriousness, I really think that would be the best thing to do. Get someone like Ernie Acorsi or Ron Wolf to help with the selection process and the re-designing of the front office power structure. Get it right this time around.
  2. Last time Ralph hired a consultant (Marv) to help find a GM and coach, he hired himself as GM and Dick Jauron as HC.
  3. The Bills need to focus on kicking the crap out of the Jets this week. Worry about next week next week and worry about the draft at the end of the year. Winning its fun. Let's try to keep doing it.
  4. Just for arguments sake and using you methodology: 2008 - 3 Qbs were taken in Rd1 or 2 (Flacco, Ryan and Brohm) - 2 or 3 started immediately - 66% 2009 - 4 QBs taken in Rd 1 or 2 (Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman and Pat White) Stafford, Sanchez and Freeman are starting. White was never intended to be a starter right away. He is a Wildcat player and developmental Qb - so success rate of 75% or higher depending on your view of White. My point is, your argument does not hold water. You can find starters at any position if your front office is competent. Right n ow ours is not. Lets hope that changes otherwise it does not matter much where we pick in the draft or what positions we target, they will be mediocre at best (ala Lynch, Poz, Whitner, Leodis, McCargo, Maybin etc).
  5. Thought would actually be awesome. And entirely possible.
  6. I would be happy if the Bills hired Floyd Reese as GM and let him pick the next coach. If he chooses to keep Fewell (and is not forced to do so), I would be on board.
  7. Or it could mean that we are not that far off from being in the playoffs and might help us land a top quality coach and/or GM. I will be happy either way, but if we can keep winning, thats great. Figure out the draft and everything else later. Winning is always better than losing although I get the draft point. 1 extra win cost us Big Ben a few years ago. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Yesterday sure was awesome, though.
  8. The goal is to win the Superbowl. If we are not going to win it this year, the next goal is to do whatever it takes to improve our chances next year. That includes securing the best draft picks possible. 2 ways to assure getting the best picks possible are: 1.) drafting early in the round so you have your pick of the best talent and 2.) Hiring competent Front office people to choose the talent. We've been pretty good at #1 over the last few years but not at #2. Hopefully that changes this year.
  9. I think the problem with Jauron was that he always seemed to make aggressive calls at the wrong times. That being said, I know everyone is ecstatic over the win and giving Perry all kinds of praise for the long FG. But it's only a great call because Lindell hit it. It was really a bad decision that worked out well. Lindells odds of hitting that kick were pretty low. The better move would have been to pin Miami deep again and play defense. I know its the conservative, Dick Jauron thing to do, but in this case I think it was the better choice. If Lindell misses the kick, we are pretty much handing Miami the go ahead points. I like the agressiveness from Perry and I love his attitude, I just disagree with that one call. I will that yesterday's game was the most fun I have had at a Bills game in a very long time. I loved beating the Fins and running away with it late. Now let's crush the Jets for 2 division victorys in 5 days.
  10. Edwards play did not regress. He sucked from day 1. He was the epitome of Dick Jauron. He was simply trying not to be the reason we lost games. He was never actually trying to win and make big plays. He did not "dictate" anything to the defense. He made the safe play from the first time he took the field. Everyone like his high completion rating and assumed he would get more confidence and go downfield. He never did. But he did not get any worse, he always sucked. Check the stats.
  11. Then why did he take a job with the Dolphins (AKA Gay Aquatic Mammals)? They would not really qualify as a winning organization.
  12. Exactly, this Big Board is a joke. How does McCoy drop after an unbelievable performace while Tebow leaps 9 spots without playing yet.
  13. If he were this bad then how did he set all of the win records and why is he so highly rated by the people who actually know that they are talking about ? There is no guarantee that he will be any good, but I am curioius to know what makes you such an expert and me a clueless dolt ?
  14. I would be ecstatic with Colt McCoy in Rd1. He is by far the best QB in this draft and in my opinion is the surest bet to be a successful NFL QB. He is the person I desperately hope the Bills get.
  15. Exactly my point. Lots of great picks. But you can cherry pick the list and find lots of crappy ones. JD Williams was a bust. The entire 88 draft except Thurman sucked. Just saying, No GM is going to hit on every single pick.
  16. You can find bad picks by any GM. Schuler was touted highy at the time and turned out to be a bust. You cannot blame him for not hitting on every pick. I imagine we could go back through all of Polian's picks and find some 1st round duds, but he is still one of the best GMs in the NFL.
  17. Sounds like a solid choice to me. I would like Casserly as GM but this guy sounds fine.
  18. Great points. Some coaching on mechanics would probably help as well. Do we have a QB coach or is AVP pulling double duty as OC and QB coach ? If he is, he is probably not going to do justive to either position.
  19. According to Chris Brown's Inside the Bills blog on BB.com Not a surprising move but I was happy to see it comfirmed
  20. While a final decision on HC will not be made until January, I think this meeting was helpful for the Bills decisioin makers in that they now have a better idea on how comfortable they are on bringing a Coach who will also be GM versus hiring a GM and then a coach. It will be interesting to see if the Bills change their focus from Shanny/Cowher to hiring a GM before the end of the season and then a new coach later on.
  21. I imagine there will be some sort of out clause allowing Shanny to bail (with a nice settlement) if he is not happy with what happens with the team upon Ralph selling it (or Ralph's demise).
  22. There was absolutely no chance Shanahan was agreeing to coach the Bills today. 1.) the rooney rule. 2.) Both MS and the Bills will explore all options before coming to an agreement. Do I think MS will end up with the Bills, probably not. But do I think that the fact he did not get hired today reduces the chances. No.
  23. I think this meeting could very well help the Bills in their efforts to fix the organization even if they don't land Shanhan. I imagine Russ would gain tons of insight from Shanny with regard to what he might do or things the Bills needs to do in order to be more attractive to a top tier coach/GM. I think that this meeting will go a long way to fixing the Bills problems regardless of where Shanny ends up next year. Russ is not a classic Football Guy, but he is not stupid either. I would think this meeting will benefit him greatly
  24. When I saw the thread title, I thought you were going to say he named Trent the starter for this week. Thank God I was wrong.
  25. The Bills are not going to outbid anyone for Shanny or Cowher. Any team getting them will pay top dollar. These guys will get $10-12m per year plus partial ownership. The decision is not going to be about money. It will be about all of the other factors (stability of ownership, desirability of the city, strength of current roster, salary cap situation, QB sitiuation, etc). Buffalo has a chance at one of these top guys but they have their work cut out for them in convincing Shanny or Cowher that Buffalo is the best situation for them. In previous years, Ralph was not even willing to take a shot and commit to the money it would take. This year, he seems willing to spend the money. Know we have to wait and see if Russ and Ralph can do the sell job.
