  1. I know. I am really enjoying having some hope for a change. We haven't had much hope with this team in quite some time.
  2. I don't mean any disrespect to Nix. I am glad we have him back with the ream. I just meant that he isn't Mike Holmgren or someone like that who would have all of the power. I think Cowher is more likely to go to a team with a GM like Nix rather than one like Holmgren. Nix can handle the player evaluations on both the Pro and College side and Cowher can have final say. It seems like it would be a great fit.
  3. Marino predicted that Cowher would be back in the studio with them next year. Cowher laughed and said "probably"
  4. Tampa's owner met with their HC and told him they he and the rest of the staff will be back next year. As of right now, Buffalo is the only opening for Cowher. I am thinking that it could happen. I don't want to get my hopes up, but some positive signs are happening: 1.) All other valid options seem to have dried up or not materialized (Carolina, Washington, Chicago, Tampa) 2.) Cowher and Bills have met twice 3.) Cowher contacting potential staff members this week (after second meeting with Bills, coincidence?) 4.) Bills named Nix GM. Clearly, Nix is top a top flight GM. This would leave plenty of power on player decisions and such for Cowher. As a lifelong Bills fan, I have become accustomed to setting myself up for disappointment. But, I cannot help it. I really think there is a good change Cowher could be the Bills next HC. I really hope it happens.
  5. Just combining some of the thoughts from this post: What about Rivera as HC, Weiss as OC and keep Fewell and April at DC and STC respectively ? That might not be bad. While the defense has not been exciting, they have played well and kept the Bills in most games. A total revamp is probably not needed. Just need some better players and more aggressiveness. The O would presumably be much better with Weiss and his HC experience at the college level would probably be a good added benedit that Rivera could lean on. I think I would be happy if the Bills could pulls this off.
  6. I truly believe we will hire Charlie Weiss as HC within 10 days.
  7. Or it could be a strategy to make other teams think we will not take a QB early, so they will not think they need to trade in front of us to get one of the top QBs. Then Clausen lands in our laps to go with Charlie Weiss.
  8. Sure. But they could keep anyone associated with the Byrd, Wood, Levitre, Nelson picks.
  9. I agree that the Bills are not that far away. Other than hiring a decent coaching staff, they need a QB, Left Tackle, Pass Rush help at DE and LB. The problem is QB, LT and dominant DE seem to be the toughest positions to find.
  10. WIVB.com is reporting that Nix will be announced as GM http://www.wivb.com/dpp/sports/Buffalo-Bil...ress-conference Sources tell News 4 sports, the Bills interviewed two other in-house candidates for the job, Tom Modrak and John Guy, and settled on Nix as the GM. Like I said before, I have no problem with Nix. The timing of the move sucks. Wait a week, interview some other qualified candidates and them make a decision. If those were the only 3 hired, the only one even close to qualified was Nix. I am really disappointed. Adding to this, based on the leaks from OBD this week about looking for the HC with an offensive mind and the ability to develop a QB, that screams Charlie Weiss to me.
  11. I would not necessarily mind Nix, but why not wait another week or two and atleast interview some other qualified candidates before naming Nix ? Seems like another shortsighted move by the Bills.
  12. My perfect scenario (which will probably never happen): 1.) Ralph announces that he has a plan for the team upon his demise that will keep the team in buffalo. I would love to see the team sold to new ownership, but I would be fine with it staying in the Wilson family. The only problem with it staying in the family is that Jeffrey Litman and Ralph's other 'inner circle" would remain and many of the current problems will continue. 2. Cowher is hired and brings Kevin Colbert with him to run the front office. 2a) If not Cowher. I want Floyd Reese as GM and I would be fine with whomever he chooses for HC 3.) Draft the QB of the future in Rd1. Sign the QB of the present in Free agency (Jason Campbell or Kyle Orton would be great).
  13. The funny part is that he claims that have done the same thing every game for the last 3 years and this is the first time the NFL has had a problem with it. Not sure if this shows how inept the NFL is or how irrelevant the Bills are. Btw - did anyone notice the Defensive lineman on MNF who had a Psalm reference on his Breathe-Rite nose strip? I wonder if that will get a fine too.
  14. What about signing Kyle Orton? He is a UFA after the season (unless next year is Uncapped - in which case he would be an RFA) He's not flashy but he seems to win most of the games he starts while other QBs with the same team are not as successful. He might be a good 2-3 year solution to the instability we've seen at QB since Jim Kelly retired.
  15. It'll be the same list that was speculated about on another Bills sports website Vick Derek Anderson Jason Campbell Bulger Troy Smith Espn insider is a joke. Anyone who pays for it is wasting their money.
  16. Are you saying that because he's fat? or is there something I am missing? If it is because he's fat it makes no sense and is hypocritical. 1.) Many fat guys are good coaches. Parcels and Andy Reid for instance. 2.) I am quite sure there are plenty of coaches who smoke or drink too much. Is that not a problem ? 3.) Do you have any vices? I would bet you do. Not saying Weiss would or wouldn't be a good choice. I really don't know too much about him. I'm just saying that your comment seems to me to be nonsense.
  17. So, Tim Graham "reports" that another pseudo-journalist reports that nothing will happen any time soon. Is this real journalism? Weathermen have more journalistic credibility than these guys. They hop around internet sites like we do and then they "report" what they find as if it were real news. I'd bet that Tim has Skooby on his speed dial as a "person close to the Bills organization" What a joke.
  18. It might be that they have not formally started the process of finding a new HC yet because they first want to do 2 things: 1.) Talk to Bill Cowher after the season to see if he is a fit. He is the only coach out there who would command the type of front office control that would require hiring him first and a GM second. 2.) They have not yet hired their GM. Most of the potential candidates are already employed by other teams and cannot interview/express interest until the season ends. You can continue to run around like Chicken little if you like. I am going to wait and see how things play out before assuming the sku is falling.
  19. But the same can be said for a LT. Put a good LT on this team right now and they are not much better than they are now. Both pieces are important, I just think its easier to find solid O-Lineman than franchise QBs. My other reasoning is that QBs take time to develop. Draft a QB in Rd 1 give him a year or two to develop, in the meantime, build continue building the Oline through the draft and free agency (and developing current players) so that when the young QB is ready to play, the line is ready as well. There is no quick fix. Drafting 1 player will not put this team in the playoffs in 2010 regardless of whether it is a QB or LT or LB or whatever other "we have to have this guy" position it is.
  20. I agree that the Oline needs to be fixed but so does the QB position. Our QBs suck regardless of how good or bad the line is. Good QBs make a line look better and make a team better. But to your point about all of the playoff teams with bad QBs, please name the teams. I see the following teams/QBs already in the playoffs this year: Indy (Manning) New England (Brady) SD (Rivers) Cincy (Palmer) New Orleans (Brees) Philly (McNabb) Minny (Favre) AZ (Warner) That is a pretty damned good group of QBs. But just for the sake of argument, lets look at the rest of the teams in the hunt: Jets (Sanchez) Broncos (Orton) Packers (Rodgers) Cowboys (Homo) Giants (Eli Manning) Ravens (Flacco) Texans (Schaub) Steelers (Big Ben) Still a pretty solid list of QBs. I would even call them Stellar. Your point holds no water. As Dickie J would say "It's hard to win in the NFL" and it is even harder to win without a damned good QB. If we have a shot at a potential franchise QB in the draft in Rd1, we have to take it. Look at the players above, 9 were first rounders (many at the top of Rd1). 3 were second rounders. Brady, Favre, Romo and Orton where the only ones not drafted in Rd1 or 2.
  21. You over value the draft. Expecting any pick to make a difference in their first year is no realistic. Some rookies do make an immediate impact, but most take some time. Marv always used to say "The best rookies are last years' rookies" and I think that makes sense. We need help in lots of places and no draft picks will "fix" the problem. We definitely need an influx of talent to the Oline and QB position (among others) via draft and Free agency. We also need to figure out if their is a reason we seem to always be decimated by injury and try to address that. The best teams each year are the ones that seem to stay healthy. The mentioned a team on sunday, I cannot remember which one, that had only 2 opening day starters miss more than 1 game with and injury.
  22. While I am not in love with the idea of Weiss as HC. I would love to get the 4 men you mentioned to run the Bills. I think we would see a big change in attitude and performance.
  23. except for the fact they they would argue that Brohm sucks so bad they had to bring back Chroise to start because Brohm couldn't cut it. Never underestimate the illogical power of the haters.
  24. Maybe you will. I am 100% sure that the pansy sucked.
