UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos
Maddog69 replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do you know that there aren't teams that have these guys rated in the top 10 ? How do you know for a fact that we can get them in round 2. The answer is: You don't. Neither do I and reallly nobody does. Thats why teams spend months ranking these guys and putting their own mock drafts together. -

I agree and I am not necessarily advocating taking either of those guys at 9. But I wanted to make a few points: 1.) None of us actually have any idea how the teams actually have these players rated. 2.) The Bills would have to find somebody interested in the 9 spot and willing to give them value for the pick. That new team would also need to be in a position where the Bills could still get the guy they want. 3.) You have to consider what other people might be targeting you guy. For example, if we want Tebow and we know that Jax also does, they draft right after us, so we might be forced to take him higher than we would ideally want to in order to get him. 4.) Sometimes this whole "reach" thing is overblow. Look at Phillip Rivers. Nobody expected him to go at #4 overall. SD identified him as their franchise QB and they took him. Seems to have worked out OK. 5.) The draft is a crapshoot. Any of the picks could be future Hall of Famers. Any of the picks could be busts. Nobody knows. Please stop acting like you do. The point is, the #1 priority for any Front office and coaching staff is to identify and acquire a franchise QB. If they decide Tebow or McCoy are the guy, take them. If its Clausen or Bradford, go get them. -
We should hold out until they throw in Peyton Manning. He's getting kind of old and sure does make lots of money. I'll bet they are looking to rid themselves of that has-been. He could come in and hold down the QB job for a year or two while Trent develops into the next Tom Brady.

Didn't Chan get to a Superbowl with Kordell ?
-
I've wondered the same thing. Seems like he is atleast worth bringing in for a conversation. He was set to be the starter in Baltimore before his tonsilities. He would at a minimum be able to come in and be a part of a 4 way QB competition with the guys already here and he is clearly better than anyone we might get in Rd5. We might even be able to work out a trade with Baltimore for a lesser draft pick or for a current roster player.

With Davis signing and possibly Edwards
Maddog69 replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we are 1000 times more likely to take Tebow at #9 than we are to take Spiller (and I think there isn't much of a chance we take Tebow at #9). With our pick at 9, I expect OT, Clausen/Bradford or trade down. Nix is not going to make a luxury pick with so many other weaknesses. -
We don't currently have one and I don't think we will. They are putting together of team of midlevel players. We will most likely not have a superstar on the team. Whitner likes to talk so he is currently the mouth of the franchise, but that's about it. Evans and Jackson are the 2 best Offensive players and the leaders on that side of the ball. Not much going on on the defensive side as far as star power goes. Bottom line: The face of the franchise is not yet on the team. If we take a QB in Rd1 (Clausen) or Rd2 (McCoy or Tebow) that will be the face of the future.

I don't think Mitchell gets cut this year unless the Bills pick a LB in the first 2 rounds and the Bills want to same money. We now have 3 adequate ILB's why would they cut one. Both Poz and Mitchell also could compete for OLB and add depth and flexibility.

Gailey: Not prepared to name a starting QB
Maddog69 replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. This whole "story" is stupid. Of course he is not ready to name a starter. 1.) They all suck 2.) There is still plenty of time to make a move for someone who doesn't suck. 3.) He has not seen any of them on the field so that he can make an educated choice about which one sucks the least. I think chances are 70/30 there the 2010 starting QB of the Bills is not currently on the roster. -
These are exactly the types of players I expected. I would not be surprised to see a few more guys like this brought in. Good solid, depth players. Players who has a history with our coaching staff and who fit into the style of play the new staff wants and the type of men they want in the room. I am still very pessimistic about the coming season, but I love the signings today and hope for more.

I get that. My point is that nobody knows if he will be any good at it. Does it make more sense to trade him to a team who can use him at the position he excels at (4-3 DT) and get a guy to play the DE in the 3-4 who is a legit 3-4 DE?
-
Good solid signings of both of these guys. Not flashy, Big Name guys. But both are clearly upgrades at positions of need for the Bills. I think we could still use another LB, preferably OLB. We definitely need a NT, LT and QB and some help at WR. Do you think there is any chance we could try to move someone like Stroud if he doesn't fit at NT. He has some value to a team running a 4-3. I like him as a player, but if he doesn't fit the scheme, maybe it makes more sense to trade him rather that to try to force them into a spot he is not suited for. I know some have said he would make a good DE in a 3-4.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, Marshawn has not gotten into any trouble this off season.
-
He would be a nice addition. Didn't the Bills bring him in for a visit last year ?
-
Good point. I didn't really mean to say "fits the system". What I was thinking with Thigpen is that he has a history with Chan so it would be easier for Chan to develop a system around him and move forward with what they had already worked on in the past so the learning curve would not be as steep.

Thanks. So the D Ends seem like they will be quite big. Stroud, Spencer Johnson and Kennedy are all at or near 300. Seems like when we played the 3-4 back in 90's, the Ends were not that big. Bruce and Hansen were both under 280. And our NTs were not that big either. It will be interesting to see what this beefier front 4 can do against the run. -
I've been thinking about who I would prefer the Bills to pursue at QB. They already have 3 young QBs on the roster who can definitely fill the #2 and #3 QB slots and potentially improve (especially Brohm, less so with Trent, not so with Fitz). Here is what I think we should do at QB (ranked in order of my priority) The idea here being that the 3 guys on the roster will be brought in to camp to compete for a spot in the top 3. I would love a trade for Mcnabb (if available). Problem solved for a few years. Would you give philly our #1 pick in 2011 for McNabb ?. I realize this most likely will never happen. So, on to more likely options. 1.) Trade with Baltimore for Troy Smith and have him compete (and most likely win) the starting job. Brohm becomes #2 or #3. Fitz and Trent fight for the other slot. Smith is an RFA. We can sign him and only have to give up a 3 if they don’t match. I think we could get him for less than a 3. But I'd be fine with giving up a 3 to get him. Maybe a bigger package deal to get Gaither too. 2.) Trade with Miami for Thigpen. Has worked with Gailey. Fits the system. Would fight it out with the others just as Smith would and most likely go into 2010 as the starter. I know, Miami probably won't trade him to us. 3.) Trade for Vick. Draft Tebow. Let the other 3 fight for the 3rd spot on the roster. 4.) Sign Delhomme and focus on building a strong O-line. Maybe resign T.O. 5.) Sign Jeff Garcia. Draft Tebow 7.) Sign Derek Anderson or trade for Quinn or Travaris Jackson or some other crappy washed-up never was. I really like my #1 scenario and this is what I want to happen. So it won't.

Can somebody explain why he would be a better option at NT than Stroud ? Seems to me that Stroud has as good a chance at transitioning to NT as Kennedy. I'd be happy if they signed him just to have another NFL caliber DT on the roster, but I just don't see how he fits the need any more that Stroud. -

They will want a guy with HC experience. I heard Tom Cable would be interested. -
HAHAHAHA. That's funny.

Defensive Sully Fires Back At Nix
Maddog69 replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"It was a kick in the teeth of the NFL media, most of whom are hard-working, credible people." Most of these dopes are either nerds who love to take shots at the jocks (like Sully) or former NFL people who are either trying to get back in the NFL or have an axe to grind or both. Sully is a joke as are most of these so called sports reporters who see something on Twitter and report it as fact. When did Twitter become an "NFL Source". I call it lazy journalism and I find it funny that these guys are all out of shape because they had no idea what was going on with the coaching search and were made to look foolish by a 70yr old GM who they all poked fun at. -
Don't blame Ralph for not hiring Marty
Maddog69 replied to Nevergiveup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How does it not hurt TG's story? TG claimed Ralph said no to Marty. NGU is saying that is not true. If NGU is right, then TG is full of crap.
