Sammy Watkins best receiver in NFL after week 8?
Maddog69 replied to pbanach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sammy had a tremendous second half of the season. Really looking forward to what they can do next year. -
In the end, our expectations may have been too great.
Maddog69 replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Expectations were fine. Injuries and stupid penalties killed us. If Taylor stays healthy, we win the Jax game. If we weren't ravaged by injuries for much of the season at RB and WR, I think we win another game. If we don't take as many stupid, selfish penalties, we maybe win another game. Lots of "ifs". But, I truly feel we were close. I also think the 3 headed QB competition hurt the team's preparedness and chemistry early in the year. (also compounded by Injuries to Sammy and Tyrod, but they didn't gel together until around week 9). If they can stay healthier next year, Taylor to Watkins is going to be fun to watch. Sammy should end up close to 100 catches for 1600+ yards. -
Please don't build a dome! (unless it's like Arizona's
Maddog69 replied to TheFunPolice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Build a dome to make it easier and more attractive for an older, more upscale, classier clientele to attend the games. Get rid of the drunken idiots that make the city and the fanbase look foolish. I have no issue what drinking and tailgating but getting absolutely plastered and making and ass of yourself has to be stopped. -
Yeah, but I've heard of him. LOL.

No. The team has a so called "5th year option" they can choose to activate which would add another year (2017) to the current 4 yr deal. They obviously will not do that. But I do expect that EJ will be kept atleast through camp and given every chance to compete with whomever else they bring in for the #2 spot. I fully expect Taylor to be the undisputed #1 QB (unless he suffers a terrible injury between now and week 1).
-
Not to mention that they save nothing by dumping EJ and replacing him. His contract is guaranteed. I would not be surprised at all to see them draft a QB early (rd2-4) and sign a scrap heap guy to come in and compete in camp with EJ and TT. Someone like TJ Yates or Ryan Lindley (just picking random names). If EJ is cut, I doubt it is done before camp cuts in August/Sept.

Now is when McCoy's contract bites us in the butt

My feeling about the salary cap is this: If you have an owner willing to spend money, the cap will not be an issue. They can move money around on several players. If they sign Gilmore to an extension they can bring his cap # down significantly. If we were still owned by Ralph, I would be concerned. I think the Pegula's have shown that money won't be a sticking point if there is a player they want/need to sign. That's said, I don't expect them to be big players in UFA this year. I think they will do their best to re-sign Incognito and Glenn and to sign Gilmore to a long term deal. After that, I think they will be selective in FA to add pieces that fit. -
AP Report: Bills Will Release Mario After the Season
Maddog69 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Blame Mario all you want, it was Rex that caused the lack of production from a defensive grouping that was excellent the previous 3 years. So many people complained for years that Spiller wasn't used right and that our stupid OC's could blast him into space or whatever. LOL. Why isn't the same being said for Mario? He is a pass rush specialist being paid a huge salary to do just that. Rex decided to use him as a cover linebacker. Its completely idiotic. It's like using a Ferrari to delivery pizzas. Put the blame where it fits. The Mario signing was a great move by the Bills. A tremendous coup that shocked the NFL. Mario was very productive for 3 seasons and was completely wasted this year. Its a shame to see him go when sacks are at a premium in the NFL. -

McKelvin willing to play Safety & take pay cut
Maddog69 replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the article Dunn says "Every time someone leaves this locker room, that player seems to have success" I hear people say this a lot, it just isn't true. Besides Marshawn Lynch, who has left here in the last 10 years and had success? Levitre and Byrd both suck. Stevie has done nothing since leaving. Lil' Donte has bounced around and done nothing. Kiko sucks Fitz has bounced around and is having his best season this year. But people make it sound like every guy who leaves Buffalo turns into a star. -
Mehta: Rex would be playoff bound with these Jets

He is probably right. -
Pegulas announce Rex and Whaley will return in 2016
Maddog69 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pettine is a head coach. I doubt he would accept a demotion to come back here. All indications are that he is safe in Cleveland for next year. -

Exactly. Russ is in charge or corporate sponsorships and ticket sales. Both are at record high levels. Anyone who thinks he is going anywhere is not very bright. -
Osweiler or Tyrod: Who Would You Sign Long-Term?
Maddog69 replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would not want to pay either of them huge money at this point. If I'm Denver, I offer a 3-4yr bridge deal before spending huge dollars on him. If he hits free agency and someone else wants to gamble and pay him huge money so be it. As for the Bills choice, I would 100% stick to Taylor rather than overpaying BO to try to steal him from Denver. Taylor has had a fine season and should continue to progress. I would not be looking to sign him to a huge deal just yet either. -

Pettine officially fired by Browns; Marrone to interview
Maddog69 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't like the idea of burdening a new GM with a holdover head coach. Pettine's status should be up in the air until a GM is found. Find the right GM and let him pick the coach. Otherwise you have the same garbage situation we have here where the owner picked the coach and has him reporting directly to the owner. The GM should select the coach he wants and should be able to fire him at his discretion. -
Tyrod Taylor had a quietly spectacular day
Maddog69 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand why people are so quick to jump on the Taylor baedwagon and are quick to exaggerate his achievements. He has played very well at times. He has played very poorly at times. He's made some nice throws and some bad. Some nice runs and some where he should've stayed in the pocket and found a receiver. All in all, he has performed well, but to say "spectacular" would be a massive overstatement, in my opinion. This whole year with Tyrod has reminded of the ridiculousness with Trent Edwards when he showed basic competence at the position and people were just gushing praise. Schopp was even stupid enough to say he would not trade Edwards for Tom Brady. Calm down on Tyrod. Let's see how it plays out. He has earned the right to come into next season as the starter but he hasn't done enough to convince me that he is the long term solution at the position. -
I may be in the minority, but I think when you consider everything, Roman has done a decent job this year. With the exception of 1 or two boneheaded play calls each week, I've been OK with Roman and I think going into year two of the offense with Taylor at QB, we should see improvement. Factors to consider: 1.) teaching a new offensive system to the whole team 2.) having a 3 way QB competition and some internal friction amongst the coaches and GM as to who should start and who should be #2. (Thus not having a clear #1 heading into the offseason and not being able to focus on building an offense around him 3.) questionable offensive line heading into the season. Wood and Glenn were the only guys you could count on being decent. Everyone else was a question mark. 4.) Tyrod's inexperience was a factor once he became the starter 5.) Key injuries to the skill players on Offense. Losing our top 3 RBs and starting guys literally off the street. Loosing Harvin, Goodwin and Sammy for games early. The offense overcame a lot of challenges and performed as well as anyone could have reasonably expected and I think next year can be even better. Unless they do a complete house cleaning and get rid of everybody, I would not want to see Roman get fired. ZERO chance Rex backstabs his friend Thurman. They've been together for something like 15 years. ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE.

Tyrod Taylor buys entire O-line 65" UHD TVs
Maddog69 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh sure. Now we are going to have the Bickering Bills. Why did he single out the OL? Trying to cause cliques. Real nice. *Just goofing around. But seriously, wonder what he got for Shady for saving his life on Blitz pickups? And for the WRs? -
NFL should change Draft order rules.
Maddog69 replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have suggested this same thing in the NHL for a while now. The one big argument against it is that teams that find themselves at the bottom of the standing might be stuck there without having some high end talent out of the draft to help them improve their fortunes. -
Rex's idiotic scheme has successfully wasted 3 pro bowl caliber players and made them ineffective and unhappy. Great job, Rex. Meanwhile the Jets might still make the playoffs with our castoffs. Keeping Rex and dumping talented players in the coming offseason will be another in a long time of bone-headed moves this team has made in my lifetime.

I still hate having the GM and Coach reporting to the owner I want a GM to run the team and have the authority to hire and fire the coach. The organizational structure is screwed up.

Did this year just hurt more than the last 16?
Maddog69 replied to 1st Ammendment NoMas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expected to make the playoffs but expected to get beat in the wild card. They are still not there yet. Showed some life this year. Hopefully next year they can get it right and end the drought.
