Ryan Mallett Sucks - Exhibit A: Aaron Murray
KOKBILLS replied to ajzepp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly...I've tried to make this point before around here but it falls on deaf ears...Probably because some Folks have watched The Bills lose for so long they have NO CLUE what having a QB that actually inspires his teammates means anymore...They would not know a winner if he came up and smacked them upside the head...Trent lost in College...So did JP...Luck and Mallett are WINNERS...Mallett was 4-0 as a Pure Frosh Starter at Michigan when he basically had no clue what he was doing...He's a winner...Luck as well...Were sitting here watching these 2 College powerhouses in the SEC and PAC 10, Alabama and USC...um no wait...Florida and Oregon?...Nope not yet...Freaking Arkansas and Stanford!!! And we have Buffalo Bills Fans...Fans who have sat through JP, Kelly Holcomb, Trent Edwards and now Fitz, and they're nitpicking these 2 to absolute death...It's a joke...I'm SO glad Buddy Nix will not do the same...These 2 Kids are winners who inspire better performances out of their Teammates week in and week out...They would both make incredible additions to this Football Team...Both will need a Year or two to get caught up and find themselves, but once they do they'll do the same thing in the NFL they've been doing since they were Kids...They'll win... -
I really don't think the Jury is still out on Eli and Brees...There both pretty solid and they're both better than Fitz... I actually think you made my point for me...I'm going to assume for the sake of argument The Bills feel Luck or Mallett is a Franchise guy...A QB you build a Team around that can win Championships in the NFL...That's why The Bills HAVE to take one of them if they get the chance...Because QB's like that come around once every few years...And the the potential reward of taking a QB instead of say...a DE from Ohio St...is definitely worth the risk of missing on that QB because the goal is to win a SB not win 7 games...

Y'all crack me up...You've always got an angle...10 years of losing has deadened the senses I guess... How many #1 Overall DE's end up being Bruce Smith? Aikman, Elway, Eli, and Peyton were 1st Overall...Young was the 1st Player taken in the Supplemental Draft...That's 8 of the last 20 SB's right there...Big Ben was #11 Overall in a Top heavy QB Draft...That's 10 of the last 20...Already half...But don't play dumb...Where would Brady, Favre, Warner, and Brees have gone had Teams know what type of NFL QB's they would become? Of coarse not everyone was #1 Overall, nor does every #1 Overall QB pan out...There is a strong possibility The Bills will not even get the chance to take Luck or Mallett...The point is IF they get that chance they ARE going to take it and they should...Both QB's have the...and yes here comes the p-word...but they have the potential to be Franchise QB's for the next 10 years plus...And that is the best, quickest, and most efficient angle to becoming a Championship competitor in the NFL...It's shooting for greatness, not trying to do everything the hard way just cause it's possible... The point is not if a Team can be built around Fitz because of coarse that is possible...It's also possible that I will be the next President of the US...It's possible, I qualify...The true point is IF The Bills have a chance to take Luck or Mallett they should do so...And I think they will...And I'll support them in the decision even if Mallett or Luck fail...Because I know they are trying to be great...Not trying to figure a way to buck the trend and win a SB with a QB the caliber of Ryan Fitzpatrick...All due respect to Fitz who plays hard and is certainly a serviceable guy...I like Fitz and if The Bills choose to build around him I hope he proves me wrong...But I'd rather like him as my back-up...

"If Baltimore Won a SB with Trent Dilfer"...Okey Doke... Do you have any idea how much better the Baltimore and Tampa Bay Rosters had to be at EVERY Position in order to Win a Super Bowl?...Those Teams are the exception to the Rule and it's not even close for God's sake...If you want to build your Super Bowl Team in that manner it's fine...The rest of the league will be searching for the great QB...Cause that's what gets Teams to the SB, and wins SB's more often than not...Great play at the QB Position... Let's look at the last 20...Yes, 20 Super Bowl Winners...What did 17 of the 20 have? Outstanding QB play...17 out of 20, or 85%...I would say those odds are pretty convincing...Troy Aikman(3 SB Wins, 1 SB MVP, 1st Ballot HOF QB), Mark Rypien (SB MVP and 2 time Pro Bowl QB who was playing out of his mind the year the Skins won it all), Steve Young (1 SB win, 1st Ballot HOF QB), Brett Favre (1 SB win, will be 1st Ballot HOF QB), John Elway (2 SB Wins, 1 SB MVP, 1st ballot HOF QB), Kurt Warner (1 SB Win, SB MVP, probable 1st Ballot HOF QB), Tom Brady (3 SB Wins, 2 SB MVP's, LOCK 1st Ballot HOF QB), Big Ben (2 SB Wins), Eli Manning (1 SB win, #1 Overall draft Pick), Peyton Manning (1 SB Win, SB MVP, LOCK 1st Ballot HOF QB), Drew Brees (1 SB Win, SB MVP, 4 time Pro Bowl QB, Comeback of the Year in 2004 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2008)... So how do you want to build a Super Bowl winning Team?... I thought so...

Exactly! Thank You!

That's HILARIOUS! Jim Kelly was great O-Line, or no O-Line...He got sacked a half a million times in the USFL and still put up MVP Numbers... I know it's easy to invoke the name of Kelly as a Bills Fan when you are trying to make a point, but once again I have to say PLEASE stop comparing Fitz and Kelly in any way, shape, or form...There is NO comparison between the two no matter how you spin it...NONE!...You folks who keep bringing back the Kelly years actually have it EXACTLY opposite...If we want to make comparisons to Kelly than The Bills HAVE to Draft a QB high because that's the only possibility they are going to get someone who may someday be comparable to a 1st Ballot Hall Of Fame QB... You're doing a disservice to Kelly's legacy when you make these points IMHO...I know that's not the intention, but I think we've forgotten how good Jim Kelly really was, and how those QB come around once in a Lifetime for a lot of Teams...
-
That's definitely a possibility...And if that's what happens I'm guessing The Bills can do worse than Fitz...But I don't think there is any way they pass on Luck or Mallett if they get the chance to Draft either...If they don't get that chance then it's a D-Lineman, O-Lineman or a LB I imagine...
-
Fitz is on a decent, not great, career-best run...Lets not get too carried away just yet...If he plays the way he's played since the Balt game the rest of the year there is no way Bills Fans will be as pumped about building around Fitz...So I'm not sure why anyone would decide now that he's the guy...There's 7 Games left in the Season...We'll see... We would want a new QB because the hope would obviously be we could get a better one than Fitz, one that could lead the Bills to another 10 year plus run like Kelly did...It happens in the NFL...Great QB's still come out, get Drafted high and win Super Bowls...The Manning Brothers and Big Ben are recent examples...It's absolutely nothing against Fitz...There are better QB's, and there will be better QB's than Fitz in the NFL...I don't think that is disputable whatsoever... If the Bills Draft a QB Fitz would still have a good chance to start in 2011, but likely would move back to #2 in 2012...He'll make a GREAT mentor and Back-up and the Bills would be insane to let him go... Saying that Drafting a QB would set this Franchise behind is just misinformed speculative nonsense...Drafting THE WRONG QB could set the Franchise behind...Drafting the right one could catapult The Bills into Title contention in a couple years...There are no guarantees with any Draftee at any Position...The NFL is a risky business...You do your homework and make your decisions based on that hard work...But you darn sure better have a good QB if you expect to win...Everybody knows the re-building process is a heck of a lot easier with the right QB...If The Bills have a chance to Draft Luck or Mallett they pretty much have to take that chance...Because if they pass, and those 2 end up being the next Eli and Rivers, THAT will likely set the Bills back worse than anything...The Bills need a new face to build this Franchise around...Fitz may be that guy if they can't get in the position to get a QB high in the 2011 Draft...But I don't think there is any way they pass on Luck or Mallett if they are available when the Bills are on the clock...They are going to Draft a Top QB Prospect if they get that chance..They've all but promised as much...I really don't know why that would bother any Bills Fan...They are going to shoot for greatness..And that's exactly what they should do at this point...
-
I knew you did...Hope I did not come off like I was attacking or anything...Just wanted to talk a bit about the Completion % thing and Mallett's effect on winning Football Games...That's all... Peace...
-
Mallett is 61% at Arkansas in over 700 attempts...He's 67% this year and I think it's pretty clear he's showing improvement every year...He was forced into action early at Michigan and had a TERRIBLE completion % that year (43.3%)...Mallett was REALLY raw that Year, but to his credit he was 4-0 as a Starter and basically saved Michigan's Season by not doing enough to lose Games when Henne unexpectedly went down ... I'm a Michigan Fan...I've watched Mallett from the 1st time he entered a Game at Michigan and I've seen a lot of his Games at Arkansas over the past two years...I realize he gets ripped pretty hard at times about accuracy, not being to bright...etc...And of coarse there are some pretty nasty rumors out there, none of which have been substantiated whatsoever, that go far beyond the Football field...I don't think Mallett is perfect whatsoever...And it's going to take a little time for him to develop in the NFL...the same way it took him a little time to get Petrino's system down...I think Gailey is just about the perfect HC for Mallett in the NFL...I see what he's done for Fitz and it makes me drool thinking about what he could do for a Kid with the raw talent Mallett possesses...The thing I think is most important about Mallett is, for whatever reason, his Teammates play REALLY hard when he is around...He's 20-7 as a Starter in the Big Ten and SEC...That's pretty darn good...The Razorbacks were 13-12 in the 2 Seasons before Mallett, they're 16-7 since and Nationally Ranked at #13... Mallett likely has 3 games left vs. Ranked opponents...This week vs. #21 (at Miss St.) and next week vs. #5 (vs. LSU at Little Rock), then the Bowl game...These should be 3 more REAL tough tests for him to show how far he's come...But I'm going to be paying as much attention to how Arkansas does overall in these 3 Games...If they can come out of these 3 Games 2-1 that would mean Mallett was 22-8 as a Starter Career wise and 10-3 as a Sr. playing in the toughest Conference in College Football...I'd say that's not too bad...I'm pretty sure Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey will agree...We'll see soon enough...

Jake Locker and Washington VS UCLA on ESPN Now......
KOKBILLS replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the final decision may very well hinge on Harbaugh's future...If Harbaugh leaves then Luck is REALLY gambling by staying...I imagine the Kid feels as long as his HC (who played QB in the NFL) is around he'll be able to keep his status...Like or dislike Harbaugh, I think it's clear he's doing a damn good job highlighting Luck's strengths and disguising his weaknesses... Lets not forget too that Sam Bradford missed most of his Sr. Year with an injury and was still Drafted #1...And there were PLENTY of folks who questioned Bradford's toughness...So there is also precedence going the other way... -
Holy freaking hell that was a good read!!! This is going to be quite interesting indeed! Thanks for Posting it!

I'm going to hold out hope until Draft Day that this becomes 2004 all over again for Buddy...Nix Trades down a few spots, gets some extra Picks in 2011 and 2012, and Drafts Ryan Mallett wherever we end up...To me that would be the perfect scenario...But that's just me...

Positional Needs for November Needed

I'd rather see them Trade Down, get an extra Pick or two, and still end up with Mallett... I was looking at your latest Mock Draft and I gotta say...I'm not sure where exactly y'all get your rankings but I'll go out on a limb and predict there is no way Locker goes before Mallett in the 2011 Draft...Mallett has done nothing but improve while Locker has actually regressed a little...And Mallett is doing his damage in the SEC...When it's all said and done (and you can record this to tell me I was a fool later... ) I doubt Locker will be among the first 20 or so Players taken and Mallet will go in the Top 10... -
Well I never noticed that over these past 40 years... Anyway, I can say pretty clearly from my observation standpoint the past 10 years have been worse...I'm not saying there was no negativity before that...Just saying these past 5 years especially have been brutal and the Team has done little to give us the warm and fuzzies...

Wood is 3rd ranked run-blocker in NFL

I don't know if you heard the reporter from Philly on WGR this AM but he was asked about Jason Peters and I'm pretty sure this was the exact quote; "We hate him." Seriously that's what the guy said...He went on to basically say Peters is penalized WAY too much and that he was warned when the Eagles acquired Peters that he was no where near the hype, and now he agrees... Just thought that was interesting... -
Well fair enough...There is clearly a crap-load of negativity...But you don't think a decade of non-Playoff Football might have a little bit to do with that? Look I've been a Bills Fan for 40 Years now...Anyone who knows me will say I'm the biggest Bills Fan they've ever met...When I'm watching the Games I'm hoping they win...That part is ingrained in Me...But realistically, if they are going to suck do I mind them losing and having a chance to Pick #1 Overall, especially when a Prospect like Andrew Luck may be the prize? Um...Nope, I don't mind at all...And I think I'm no less true Bills Fan than anyone else out there...
-
Ahh...You got me...
-
I would not support any new uniform that included a White Helmet unless it was a throwback...I like the Red Helmet...I think it's the best Helmet in the league...
-
Instead of the Team that loses Games for all the other reasons? Because we're already there...
-
Who's massaging and cherry picking stats? They are what they are...Break em' down any way you see fit... BTW...No question Fitz is the smarter QB...It still does not mean he's going to end up being the better QB in time...I for one hope he is...I'm not a hater, just a realist...

Career Numbers Fitzpatrick - 572-985 (58.1%) - 5749 Yds. - 35 TD's - 34 INT's - 72.3 QB Rating Anderson - 708-1335 (53%) - 8564 Yds. - 52 TD's - 53 INT's - 69.4 QB Rating Anderson's best year he had an 82.5 QB Rating...Fitz's QB Rating is 85.5 currently... Now I'll grant anyone the fact that Fitz's numbers are slightly better and that he seems to be improving while Anderson fell off badly after the one decent year...But at this point in time I think the comparison can certainly be made when you're talking about Career-Year type things...So far this is Fitz Career Year...We'll see what he does from this point on...But others, like Anderson, had their 15 minutes and fell off dramatically...It's not beyond imagination that Fitz could do the same based on what he has done before this Year...
