  1. Evaluation YEAR???? A YEAR to evaluate the talent?...I know that can't be exactly what you meant...But I'm kinda hoping Coaches and FO types who have been around football their entire lives don't need a full year to know what they've got...
  2. Oh man!!! That made me I'm a bit obsessed with The Draft...So that explains why I was thinking about this on my way in to work this AM... The NFL is SUCH a tough-guy league...It's a league that often proves too tough for Players who have been playing football their entire lives and dominating most of that time...It's more than a mans league...Outside of the UFC it may be the most physically challenging sport to play when you consider the trenches or the front 7 on Defense for example... So how in the name of whatever God you believe in do you Draft Aaron Maybin before Brian Orakpo to play DE/OLB in the NFL?...Orakpo said before the Draft..."I'm Brian Orakpo...A Beast, a Monster, a Freak, what else you wanna know?" The guy put on 55 lbs of pure muscle at Texas...He looks mean, he plays meaner...He was a better College Player than Maybin and he did it longer...His play as a FRESHMAN earned him Defensive Freshman of the Year and First-team Freshman All-America by The Sporting News. 6-3-260, a 4.6 40 time...31 Reps at 225, and an almost 40 inch vertical...But with all that, the guy is a tough, tough guy...He's a guy you look at at the end of the day and say, OK...This Kid is tougher than nails...He works out with 100 lbs of chains around his freaking neck!!! There's not much finesse about him...He's a SUPER tough guy playing a super tough guys game... Cushing and Matthews were not much different...But looking back on it now, and ignoring what they have done in the NFL so far...How in Gods name did the Bills not draft Orakpo in 09? It boggles the mind...
  3. Good point...I'm guessing the Bills Pick no later than 10th-13th...
  4. Regardless of talent level I am firmly convinced of one thing...The Bills are the worst Coached Team on Defense in the NFL...Game Planning? I won't even go there...The fundamentals suck, they make too many mental errors, and the young players rarely look like they are improving...ever...Add to that the fact that opposing Offenses don't look like they even break a sweat as they are moving the ball drive, after drive, after drive...It's the worst Coached defense I think I've ever seen...I don't think they are a Top 5 Defense based on talent level regardless...But they certainly could be a Top 20...The Coaching is REAL bad...
  5. Thanks Bill! Some of the old-timers around here may remember when I did my own Draft Reports and stuff before I got old and bitter...lol...But I love the NFL Draft!!!I also really appreciate what Astro and Rich do here all year...And I almost always agree with Badol...I certainly understand how difficult it is for Teams to do well in the Draft...That being said it's all but impossible, even if you're trying to do poorly, to reach the level of ineptitude the Bills have Drafting over the past decade or so... On Draft Day I like to Pick as if I'm The Bills GM...Then I can look back over the years and see how good, or terrible a Drafting GM I would be...In 2010 I took Bulaga in the 1st and Cody in the 2nd...I was definitely afraid of Dez Bryant...But that just shows you never know 100% when it comes to the off-the-field stuff...In 2009 I had Orakpo in the 1st (I REALLY liked Robert Ayers too but I could not bring myself to take him at #11)...I should also note that mostly due to what Mike Mayock said I would never have taken Maybin before the 2nd Round, and certainly not at #11...To me that Pick was Orakpo, Ayers, or Brian Cushing...I liked Matthews but I was worried about his "late bloomer" status and felt like he went right where he should have....I LOVED the Wood Pick...Anyway... Going back a bit I can say with pride that I was screaming at the TV when the Bills took Whitner...I wanted Ngata so bad, and I was SO convinced they were going to take him I went from chanting "Ngata! Ngata! Ngata!!!" to literally shouting "NOOOOOO!!!!!!" In 2008 I took Branden Albert at #11...And just to show I can suck at times too, I LOVED the Hardy Pick and was hoping the Bills would Draft him midway through the 2007 College Season...I was really thrilled when we got him in the 2nd...So... This past Draft I would have taken Dareus obviously...I was shocked the few days leading up to the Draft when it came out Denver was leaning towards Miller...I took Brooks Reed in the 2nd...I was bound and determined not to take a CB early...lol...But then in the 3rd I took Mallett...I was SO pissed The Bills did not Draft Ryan Mallett...Especially when they could have had him for a 3rd round Pick...I was really high on Mallett since he came to Michigan, my favorite College Team, as a Freshman...I know the Jury is still way, way, out on Mallett...But for a 3rd Round Pick I'm taking that gamble 100% of the time... So sure some of The Bills Fans around here could have done as well, or better than, the Folks actually being paid to do it...I think that's actually more due to how poorly The Bills have Drafted over these past few years...Because I'm definitely no Draft Guru...Regardless, I'm no where near convinced Nix is ready to break that terrible trend...Not yet anyway...We'll see this time next year...
  6. I'm not sure why you posted a reply that basically said exactly what I did but made it sound like it was a rebuttal...I said I would not be surprised if they took a WR in the 1st Round and that it's a HUGE need... But anyway...Agreed...
  7. Fair enough...but would you be happy now if they took him?...Cause right or wrong, hindsight or not, that's how it works in the NFL... To be perfectly honest I think if you take Gronkowski out of the equation you still have to ask why Troup over Terrence Cody?...And sure I know about all the Cody questions coming out...But...Here the Bills are and anyone who knows anything about Football knows The Bills did not want to play Kyle Williams at NT in a 3-4...Could he play there? Sure, he's an excellent Football Player...Did they want him there long term? No way...That's why Troup was Drafted where he was...But Cody was SO clearly the better College Player vs. FAR better competition...Despite his weight issues he did not get his nickname, "Mt. Cody," for nothing...Sometimes GM's like Nix, who likes to come across like a country bumpkin but realistically thinks he's smarter than anyone else, over-think things and burn themselves...Then there are Football guys like Wade Phillips who just knew Ted Washington, despite an injury plagued and disappointing first few years of his career, would make the perfect Nose Tackle for his 3-4 Defense after seeing him one year in Denver...I wanted the Bills to Draft Cody...But I'm basically just a Fan...My feeling is it's a risk regardless, why not take the guy with the biggest upside?...Some Players react totally differently when they actually grow up and it's their Job, their livelihood...Now Cody is about 340...Seems like he grew up in a short time...And I know some will say Cody went to the situation that was picture-perfect made for him...And that's true...But does it not bother the living crap out of some of you that The Bills are never considered the picture-perfect place for anyone outside of Undrafted FA's and 7th round Picks? Anyway...
  8. Well I personally can't stand either one...But Rosenhaus' statement can easily be refuted if incorrect...It's a serious claim...I doubt it's something Rosenhaus is going to lie about...
  9. WR is a HUGE Need for this Team, but I'm guessing it's not going to be with the 1st Round Pick...They need Defense SO badly...This should be a deep WR class anyway, plus there are some decent UFA options...But I would not be surprised if they took a WR either...Not surprised at all... So...I the words of Herman Cain..."How's that working for Ya?"
  10. Skip Bayless huh? For the record Gronkowsi and his Agent have aggressively denied any such thing...Rosenhaus said this before the Draft..."Every team I have talked to says there are no concerns about his back,” Rosenhaus told Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun. “He passed his physical at the combine. There are no red flags on him. He is ready to go. The back is not a factor. There’s no issue." Every Team knew about Gronkowski's condition...As did I...If he was one hit away from being paralyzed there's no way he would be in the NFL...period...He had Back Surgery...That's ALWAYS serious, but he was quite obviously cleared, and he's quite obviously capable of taking an NFL pounding... And as far as hindsight is concerned, good or bad, it's how every NFL GM is judged, every time, ever... I'd sure as heck like to know what that plan is...I'm sure there's another TD machine water-bug HB coming out they can take to replace Spiller...
  11. That's the crushing part about the Gronkowski miss...The Bills needed a TE in the worst way...And here is this Kid from WNY who is beyond talented at a HUGE Need Position...I'm not saying the Bills did not need a NT...But Troup was a head-scratcher from the get-go...Even Draft pundits who liked Troup though he was a 3rd Round Pick at best...And here we go again...Smarter and more smug than anyone, The Buffalo Bills reach and miss a guy that, if he keeps this up, is on his way to a HOF Career at a Position where we have not had a significant player since Pete Metzelaars...And that was a LONG, long time ago Folks...And that Pick came AFTER we chose a water-bug RB when we already had Jackson and Lynch on the roster and DESPERATELY needed O-Line help...Starting O-Linemen like Anthony Davis, Mike Iupati, and Brian Bulaga were all available...No they would not have been glamour Picks...But they all start for Teams with a combined 1 loss right now...I think maybe they could have made an impact more than CJ "I'm still looking to break my 1st NFL tackle" Spiller...OK, I do know he has broke at least one...But you get my drift... Nix is smarter than everyone I guess...
  12. Spiller is sitting on the Bench because he was Drafted to a Team that already had a Pro-Bowl calibre RB on the Roster...Not to mention they also had a #12 overall Pick at RB on the Roster as well...it was a dumb Pick at the time...just because we Traded Lynch does not change that 100%... How do you take Fred Jackson off the field? For some of us around here, we've been saying Freddie should be the man for some time now...Finally he's the guy and we need to get Spiller more touches? Why? So he can go down on first contact again? I'll grant you Spiller is not getting the experience, but if it means taking away from Freddie it's not going to happen? The Bills have an excellent RB...They never should have Drafted CJ...I like the Kid...I think he's got amazing potential...But he went to the wrong Team...So either he's going to have to REALLY step up on the touches he gets...Or those touches will continue to be limited...
  13. It's obviously not just because we lost 3 Games...It's how we lost them, who we lost them to, and the reality that 3 of the 5 wins came despite some terrible Defensive at times...When Sanchez, Romo, and Matt freaking Moore make you look like you're playing with 9 on Defense...You know you're getting out coached pretty soundly...Edwards has got to go...
  14. Probably true... But... Spiller over Pierre-Paul... Troup over Gronkowski... I wish he had remembered a bit more about Football when he made those two Picks...
  15. Totally agree... I respect Fitz and what he's done so far...But no on on this earth will ever convince me The Bills can't do better...It's the most important position...period...And if the opportunity arises to upgrade, it's good to know they have an out on that deal...If not, build around Fitz and hope for the best...
  16. THAT would be EPIC!
  17. I've never been a Fitz guy...I wanted Gabbert in the worst way, though I never thought Dareus would be there at #3...I'm not sure Gabbert will end up being any better than Fitz, but I've never thought Fitz would be good enough... That being said...The Bills are stuck now...They committed to Fitz and now they have to build around him...Fitz has proven he can, at times, be an effective NFL QB...And if you want to win, if you want to go to a Championship with Fitz at QB, that means a dominant running game, a REAL good Defense, and a bunch of receivers that can make plays...The biggest problem with that equation at this point is the Defense which is CLEARLY the worst Defense in the NFL...They make average to below average QB's look like All Pro's...The Defense needs a complete overhaul, starting with the DC, some more Draft Picks and UFA's...The running Game is easier to fix...When healthy The Bills have SOME decent O-Linemen...They need another dominant guy...A LT would be best...But maybe a LT and a RG...The receivers? Well...The Bills actually have the start of a decent receiving crew, but they need that one guy...A guy like a Dez Bryant, AJ Green...Maybe Dwayne Bowe will come to Buffalo...If you put a guy like Bowe or Vincent Jackson on top of this depth Chart, re-sign Stevie...then Jones, Nelson, Easley and the rest are pushed down...All of a sudden your WR corps look a lot better... I also think The Bills NEED to Draft a QB in 2012...Maybe not in the first couple Rounds...But somewhere...If for no other reason than Thigpen is currently the back-up... This Team is a complete mess right now, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but Fitz is WAY down on the list of problems...plus, like I said...The Bills are stuck with him for a couple more years...
  18. Exactly right...
  19. To quote My Best Friend every time I get into a bad relationship... "RUN!"
  20. There may not be any guarantee...But seriously...Chances are The Bills will still be here long after most of us are gone...It's a stable Franchise...I know that's not how some like to paint it...But in comparison to quite a few NFL Teams the Bills are really pretty sound...And IF they every went anywhere, it would be Toronto...
  21. You don't have to root for it...And with all due respect to the man, I think even he knows it's not going to be that long a wait...
  22. Totally agree...Noticed that today as well...The INT to Nelson was a perfect example...What a joke...
  23. Seriously... Just stop already...
  24. That's over already...At least as far as The Bills are concerned...Leave it to this Team to be just good enough to screw themselves out of any chance at Luck or Barkley...
