I pretty much totally agree... I do however think their talent has been more on the average side, especially the past couple years and the depth has pretty much failed most tests. I've said before it's a coaching, scheme, talent combo crap-sandwich on Defense... The thing that was mentioned in this thread previously that really nails it was the Simms comments on how offenses have figured out exactly where to go against our Defensive zone, and most of the time it's with the primary option so that pass is out fast. So, on those plays we have zero chance to get to the QB. And teams have been mixing in a screen or two as well that just kill us. These factors have murdered us on 3rd down. And if anyone wants a heart attack just go look at team Defense 3rd down efficiency this year, and especially in the last 3 games... Holy hellfire it's bad. Defense on skates is a great way to describe our 3rd down D... It's brutal... The good news is I really believe this years team is the best chance we have yet to score 40 points in 3 straight games in the Playoffs. And the D will turn it over a couple times to help. But otherwise I think we're cooked on that side of the ball... I've pretty much felt that way for a while now. Just don't want to be overtly negative all the time...

It used to be a term used exclusively for 3-4 OLB's but now it's that or a lighter defensive end...

In the Ravens and KC games, if the Bills can score plus 40... Then yes, I think they can do it...

It's a combination of personnel and coaching and scheme. And that's why when it looks bad, it looks really bad IMHO... There were so many plays to point to today on Defense if you want to get frustrated... But I'll tell you the one that drove me the most crazy, and it's plays like this that always drive me insane with this team. The Bills have the Pats pinned at their own one and it's 2nd and 10... The Pats line up in Shotgun so they are going to let the kid pass out of the endzone... If you don't want to call a pressure on that play... OK... But what the Bills do...what they ALWAYS seem to do to drive me insane. The CB drops to beyond the 1st down marker and they give up a free and easy 7-8 yards making the 3rd down much easier... A play later it's 1st and 10... And that happens over and over and over again with this Defense... Free yards... And teams know where they can get them and how to get them off this Defense and the scheme. How many 3rd and 7-10's do we see an open receiver 5-8 yards down the field who turns and gets a couple yards easily to keep the chains moving? I get McD's Defense is predicated upon keeping the play in front of you but teams are well onto that now and it's just too easy... And don't get me started on anything misdirection... Oh my...

In a game where no one on the Dline stepped up much that was a heck of a nice play by Groot... He's responsible for 2 TO's today and 10 points I think...
