That looked like what you are saying. And of course SS wasn't the only need. But with Matt Bowen and Coy Wire as your only players at the position you know you need to do something serious. Additionally - IIRC the NFL only allows you to pick one player per pick, so unless you understood differently, you can only do one thing at a time. McCargo was the pickup to address another need in round 1 - so what's the big deal? And don't forget - the Winstons dropped wayyyy down the draft, so with Da'Brick gone, who are you going to pick to help the OL at #8? Reyes changed our stratgey... -

Bill - I get your point - it's bang on. But look at the guys we drafted and picked up in FA. Taken as a package - you've got to feel a little more positive that the big men are being addressed. Fowler, Reyes upgrade the OL right away. Gibson is potentially an imapctful pickup too. Factor in the draft picks on the OL and there is a healthy addition and address to the OL. Look at the DL - Triplett is a sound pick up. McCargo fits the scheme too. Tim Anderson is a developing prospect and we still have a shot at June 1 cuts to address the DL further. I get your point - but I also think that the baby steps taken towards the lines add up to a couple of big strides. -

Deep in the sense that there were a lot of players with grades that factored to be anywhere between Rds 2-4. In my view there was a lot of big gaps talent wise in this draft - and you were just as likely to be labelled a reacher if you dropped down than if you took players you needed in the position you originally earned. The Bills took advantage of the upper echelon players they valued at a couple of positions and thus avoided the big talent gaps from the top 2-3 players at a position. In doing so we ended up with 4 guys with 80+ talent/prospect ratings in positions of need. By trading down into this deep draft we could have ended up with lots of players of lower value/talent/prospect in positions we didn't really need. And what's the point in that? -

No no no. Your reasoning goes that any player picked in Round 1 of the draft (for arguments sake I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say picks above and including #8) has to be the second coming of the greatest player at that position. Just plain untrue. In today's NFL (Not For Long) you have to draft what you need to succeed. If you are running a C2 Def and you have a hole at S, you draft a C2 safety. If you need a 1 gap DT, you draft a 1 gap DT. Doing anything else sets you up to fail, because your personnel will not fit your system. Football today in the NFL is about systems and chemistry. You pick guys who will work well in your system, not embarrass you off the pitch and work hard in the film room. -
Am I the only one who thinks this draft...

Probably too young to make a BIG impact this year. He's still got some growing to do.

Whitner and Youbouty (aka You Beauty)...

PS - a guide to the grades: We drafted: 2 rare talents, 2 outstanding prospects, 1 solid prospect, 1 adequate prospect, 3 borderline prospects. Explain to me how, considering the above, we could have drafted badly in any way shape or form...

CRAP. Wayne Rooney has broken his 4th metatarsel and is in a race to be fit for the world cup. Other injured England players: LB - Ashley Cole CD/CM - Ledley King CD (colossus) - John Terry CF - Michael Owen We better get healthy fast. Svens demand to have the season compacted to allow 4 weeks between the end of the Premiership and the start of the WC seems pretty smart now... -
These analysese are a load of old rooster. Scouts Inc can take their gash takes on the draft and shove it. The player breakdowns however, they are good.

I love the article too - and is exactly what I was arguing on Saturday afternoon in the bar: it's better to pick what you need, where you are, than take risks in trading and ending up with lesser talent or gys you don't need. I like the Bills draft.

They are horrible. Really gross. I hate the piping - the sleeves look a mess. The "3D" logo looks dull. They will soon be monochrome purple at home and white on the road - so not a lot will change... But the purple pants/white jerseys do not work at all for me. -
Why ESPN Pisses Me Off

My favourite non-word, now used routinely in British sports programming is: Bouncebackability. It started as a joke, and now is right in the lexicon of pundits. Come on ESPN, which Draftees have bouncebackability? -

Final 2 = defo Daughtry and McPhee. They and Hicks are in a different league. Paris is too annoying, and frankly a bit too, well, Whitney Houston for me and wayyy more annoying. Pickler, well gosh, she just bores me. Yamin... Does anyone else sing "We Jammin'" with Yamin in there instead each time he appears? I can't vote. I'm merely a passive spectator... It still rocks. -

Another classic England Chant when playing Germany: "2 world wars and one world cup - la laaa.. la laaaa" -
I'd love that kind of deal. The downside for is is that I play football too - so each and every Sunday from January to September is full of either practise or games. We have rookie practises in November too. So my Sundays YEAR ROUND apart from Easter Sunday are football. When I stop the Bills start. It's lose-lose for me in terms of keeping the Wife on side... You single guys have no clue. Put your smartass comments away. Leave the computer and go get a girl.

I disagree we need an inside presence at RB. Similarly - I think we could fill 2 to 3 positions of need in this draft, the remainder of our picks being backup/project material for some time to come.

Rich - I couldn't agree more with you. If Kelly Holcomb wins that job - we're in a more desperate state than it looks right now. -
I wish this sort of thread would go away as much as i wish the threads about the Bills moving would go away...
