Brown is definitely the weak link. Too many times did players blow by him when Allen dropped back. He can improve though and I expect him to atleast be a little bit better. If not, then this will be his last season starting.
I've been looking for Beane to add a veteran free agent, but so far it's all guards all the time. As you say, Brown might improve, but then again he might not, and he might get injured yet again. Quessenberry is just a warm body and would need help from Knox on virtually all plays.

Maybe. I'm a "I'll believe it when I see it" when it comes to them actually utilizing him in an effective way. Seems like they draft these hybrid type guys and then don't use them like that. All last year we heard how badly they needed a pass catching RB and then they get Cook and Hynes and don't throw to either!
Not sure it's "they." Could be just Allen, who prefers going long, even if it's low percentage. That's why I think they were hoping for Addison in the draft. Last year, there seemed to be a disconnect between Beane and Dorsey, with Beane bending over backwards to secure a receiving back (settling on Hines) that Dorsey appeared to ignore. Or, again, it could have been Allen. He didn't want to check down, didn't even want to throw to Knox. He wanted to go deep to Diggs, and things didn't click very well when teams figured out they should double team him.
So is Kincaid a check-down option or a deep threat? He may be something in between, like Shakir, Crowder, and Beasley. I'm just hoping someone will emerge as deep threat. Most likely possibility: Davis has a resurgence.

You know, the Kincaid-Torrence picks may be the most significant combo picks since Allen-Edmunds, in terms of what they allow the team to do. Think about it from the perspective of the opposing defensive coordinator. If you put in a linebacker to cover Kincaid, you're playing right into the Bills offensive strengths. But if you bring a DB, you're now facing Damien Harris running behind Torrence and Brown (who is a terrific run blocker even if he mostly sucks at pass pro), with Knox blocking downfield and Kincaid at least getting in the way of some DBs.
Taken together, Kincaid and Torrence have given the Bills a second dimension. Do the Bills get that? If they do, look for Beane to sign another power back soon.

Yeah, it's weird and I don't the know what to make of him. I see some analyses that say that the good thing about him is that he never drops the ball. Then I see others that say the problem with him is that he has too many drops. It's one thing to have polarized opinions on whether a pick is good or not, but another to have polarized opinions on what his qualities are. Very strange.
I read that he had a lot of drops early in his career, disappointing many after being a highly recruited high school player. Then after that, he dropped very few. Also that his draft stock was held down by his built-up speed, limiting his game to a Gabe-Davis deep threat type player. Maybe he could replace Davis if Davis continues to drop the ball in clutch situations.

He should have been more horrified watching Brown pass block. Nothing to address OT. At some point you just have to live with some warts.
My fear is that Beane is overcompensating there, too--for letting Wyatt Teller go to the Browns. Will he stick with Brown even if the evidence continues to pile up that he's over his head? I'm trying to be optimistic, but visions of Brown being ragdolled by Melvin Ingram in the AFC championship game are hard to shake.

I think he's just tired of watching Josh get killed.
I'm guessing he was horrified seeing Bates and Saffold play. Bates was at least uneven; Saffold was an atrocity and would have been benched if any reserve at all was ready. Now Beane appears to be overcompensating.

I think as it sits right now:
Dodson comes into camp as the starter. They like him and he's been in the system a few years. He's the safety net if no one else steps up.
Bernard is the guy that will get first crack to unseat him. He's who they HOPE will come in and take the job away from Dodson. That's why they took him last year.
Spector is a wild card. AJK is here right now if we sustain injury at the position. Wouldn't shock me to see him a roster cut/on the PS when all is said and done if Bernard and or Spector take a step forward.
Williams is starting out at OLB.
I don't know why this is still shocking to anyone. They have said all along they like the LB room and feel Edmunds replacement is already on the roster.
But isn't this essentially saying they just drafted a backup, not in the sixth round or via free agency but in the THIRD round? I have no problem with the kid, just where the Bills took him.

Lol what? Why make this pickI just don’t get it.
You drafted Bernard and Spector and now Dorian. This pick could have really shored up the OL competition and depth
Exactly. Were there really no developmental OTs to develop? At best, Beane is acknowledging he probably wasted a third-round pick on Bernard last year. Now he's spent two third-round picks on backups to Milano. Isn't that what the later rounds are for?
-
What do you suppose the plan is? Now they have three starting-quality guards.

I guess you can argue he's been underutilized, but not a whole lot.
17th in TE targets. 17th in TE receptions. Tied for 5th in TE TDs. 14th in TE yards.
All this for a guy whose brother died during the season. Is it really that surprising that they started him slow?
He had 27 targets in the first eight weeks, out of his total of 65. He had 20 catches out of 48 in his first eight games.
Folks, none of this makes any less than total sense.
Finn, "incompetent" is way way overstating it for Brown, who was recovering from back surgery, didn't have an offseason, and improved a lot as the season went along. But yeah, fair enough, he wasn't as good as we wanted and may well have needed more help sometimes than you'd want him to, and that may have affected the way they used Knox.
Yes, you're right. I was venting my frustration to a degree after seeing Brown so often miss his block. It seemed that Allen's routine was to go back, dodge Brown's missed block, dodge Saffold's blown assignment, and only then get ready to throw. Your assessment is more sober and accurate.

I think he's been underutilized. He's money in the RZ and often open. Up to Dorsey and Allen to target him. He can't throw the ball to himself.
He's been underutilized because he's had to help the incompetent Spencer Brown do his job. If Brown improves (as Beane expects) or if we find a decent right tackle, Knox can go back to catching balls.

I'm thinking Beane's going to trade up with Jacksonville to take Addison in front of the Giants.

I’m good with the Rousseau pick. I’m hoping he comes into his own this year .. the floor is decent, but we drafted him for his ceiling.
The Basham and Bernard picks are types of picks that shake your faith in this Front Office.
Literally every fan hated the picks at the time … and thus far, have been proven correct.
Despite what we think, I doubt many of us want to believe we know more about drafting than the people paid to do it for our team.
Too early to judge Bernard. But it really seems unlikely Basham will live up to his second-round draft status. He'll forever be the guy they took instead of Creed Humphrey, an All-Pro center for our biggest rival who could have played guard for us. And it's not hindsight: as the OP says, pretty much all fans were like "WTF?"
Somebody should run a snap poll when the Bills are on the clock in every round. (I'll be traveling and can't.) Then, in two years, we can compare the TBD's consensus picks with Beane's. I'm not sure the board would do a better job than Beane, but I suspect his picks weren't be vastly better. That says more about the crapshoot nature of the draft than Beane's prowess or our perspicacity.

With JSM long gone, Giants take Addison and the Chiefs trade up one spot ahead of us to take Flowers, leaving us with Johnson, who doesn't fit our needs, and three players who should be taken in the second-round: Hyatt, Downs, and Mims.
I don't think that's the end of the world, since we could trade down and pick up a fourth or fifth. But a Hopkins trade would be imperative if we want to go all the way this year. Diggs, Hopkins, Downs, Davis, Shakir, Harty, Sherfield, along with Knox and one of the TE in the draft... I'll take that.

Honestly, in a draft like this, grabbing those former 5 star recruits isn't the worst way to do business. Play the risk reward game. Bryan Bresee, Drew Sanders, Gervon Dexter, Trenton Simpson, Wanya Morris, Zach Harrison, Justin Shorter...
Or Fred Rouse, Willie Williams, Ryan Perrilloux, Ben Olson, James Banks, Darrell Scott, Mitch Mustain, Kyle Wright.....

That's Cody Ford, AJ Epenesa, Basham, and Dalvins family member.
Those first three are agonizing, especially considering the players still on the board at this point, or the players they could have drafted if they had packaged the pick and moved up (or down, for that matter). Ford, Epenesa, Basham. Wow.

This attitude of guilty until proven innocent in todays world is tiresome
So is the lazy reading habits of people on this board. Note the conditional tense in my post. And also note that the OP assumed Araiza hooked up with the "wrong girl." How about assuming her innocence?

Yeah, by hooking up with the wrong girl. But he'll get his chance again. Not with the Bills though.
Hooking up with the wrong girl? The charge was that he and his buddies gang-raped a girl who was drunk. If that's accurate, he's a POS that deserves to be in prison instead of the NFL.

I'm starting to wonder if we take a pick at #27.
Beane has conceded, more or less, that there aren't a lot of 1st round grades this year. So why use a 1st round pick on a 2nd round talent?
He could trade up to get an actual 1st round talent in the 1st round. But with what capital?
So I'm starting to think he'll trade back.
I suspect you're right. And I hope he does, given his track record with lower-round picks. He could pick up a solid linebacker, tight end, cornerback, and running back, given the reported depth of these positions in this draft, and maybe a developmental DT. Not sure about WR, safety, or OL, though. The pickings seem to get slimmer the deeper you go for these positions.

Diggs is the only player I can stomach these days. I'm pissed off just as he is.
I have a different take. I think he's indulging himself, reverting to the prima donna role he played in Minnesota. Like his teammates, he's frustrated, but because he's STEFON DIGGS, he gets to act out until people notice. Reminds me of when he went to the hospital to see Damar Hamlin. I'm sure many players wanted to go, but out of respect for the family, they stayed away. Not Diggs, who is special. Another "Look at me!" moment.
He must have gotten tired of the lovey-dovey role. Didn't garner him enough attention. Let's hope he doesn't turn into a cancer.

I keep thinking about Marv Levy's adage, "It's last year's rookies that are important." I assume Bernard will return stronger, and maybe a little heavier. He should be better, which isn't saying much, I realize. It sounds like his upside is a smaller Milano, which I'll take.

I wonder if the Bills draft Sanders with an idea of converting him to a DE down the line. He can really rush the passer, and the Bills don't have anyone who can bring the heat consistently outside of Rousseau and Miller. Is there any chance at all of Campbell being available in the 2nd round?

I think Darnell Washington would compliment Knox by providing superior blocking with an adequate RZ threat. He would also allow Dorsey to incorporate more 12 personnel looks. I do believe it would allow Knox to operate more as an offensive threat.
Forgive me, Dr. Who, but I have to point out that you misspelled the word "complement." To "compliment" means to praise; "complement" means to supplement or complete, as in what I take to be your meaning here. No blame: the word may be one of the most commonly misspelled in the language. And it usually leads to unintentionally comic results, as in extolling the benefits of bringing in a TE to compliment another TE. "Looking mighty fine today, Dawson! Those new socks?"
Puts a whole new spin on the draft and free agency! 😀

I didn't consider moving Bates to right tackle and having Brown be the swing tackle. If Brown hasn't improved, that might be the best option.
