  1. I'm guessing he was horrified seeing Bates and Saffold play. Bates was at least uneven; Saffold was an atrocity and would have been benched if any reserve at all was ready. Now Beane appears to be overcompensating.
  2. But isn't this essentially saying they just drafted a backup, not in the sixth round or via free agency but in the THIRD round? I have no problem with the kid, just where the Bills took him.
  3. Exactly. Were there really no developmental OTs to develop? At best, Beane is acknowledging he probably wasted a third-round pick on Bernard last year. Now he's spent two third-round picks on backups to Milano. Isn't that what the later rounds are for?
  4. What do you suppose the plan is? Now they have three starting-quality guards.
  5. Yes, you're right. I was venting my frustration to a degree after seeing Brown so often miss his block. It seemed that Allen's routine was to go back, dodge Brown's missed block, dodge Saffold's blown assignment, and only then get ready to throw. Your assessment is more sober and accurate.
  6. He's been underutilized because he's had to help the incompetent Spencer Brown do his job. If Brown improves (as Beane expects) or if we find a decent right tackle, Knox can go back to catching balls.
  7. I'm thinking Beane's going to trade up with Jacksonville to take Addison in front of the Giants.
  8. Too early to judge Bernard. But it really seems unlikely Basham will live up to his second-round draft status. He'll forever be the guy they took instead of Creed Humphrey, an All-Pro center for our biggest rival who could have played guard for us. And it's not hindsight: as the OP says, pretty much all fans were like "WTF?" Somebody should run a snap poll when the Bills are on the clock in every round. (I'll be traveling and can't.) Then, in two years, we can compare the TBD's consensus picks with Beane's. I'm not sure the board would do a better job than Beane, but I suspect his picks weren't be vastly better. That says more about the crapshoot nature of the draft than Beane's prowess or our perspicacity.
  9. With JSM long gone, Giants take Addison and the Chiefs trade up one spot ahead of us to take Flowers, leaving us with Johnson, who doesn't fit our needs, and three players who should be taken in the second-round: Hyatt, Downs, and Mims. I don't think that's the end of the world, since we could trade down and pick up a fourth or fifth. But a Hopkins trade would be imperative if we want to go all the way this year. Diggs, Hopkins, Downs, Davis, Shakir, Harty, Sherfield, along with Knox and one of the TE in the draft... I'll take that.
  10. Or Fred Rouse, Willie Williams, Ryan Perrilloux, Ben Olson, James Banks, Darrell Scott, Mitch Mustain, Kyle Wright..... https://bleacherreport.com/articles/699015-college-football-recruiting-the-20-worst-5-star-recruiting-busts-of-the-2000s
  11. Those first three are agonizing, especially considering the players still on the board at this point, or the players they could have drafted if they had packaged the pick and moved up (or down, for that matter). Ford, Epenesa, Basham. Wow.
  12. So is the lazy reading habits of people on this board. Note the conditional tense in my post. And also note that the OP assumed Araiza hooked up with the "wrong girl." How about assuming her innocence?
  13. Hooking up with the wrong girl? The charge was that he and his buddies gang-raped a girl who was drunk. If that's accurate, he's a POS that deserves to be in prison instead of the NFL.
  14. I suspect you're right. And I hope he does, given his track record with lower-round picks. He could pick up a solid linebacker, tight end, cornerback, and running back, given the reported depth of these positions in this draft, and maybe a developmental DT. Not sure about WR, safety, or OL, though. The pickings seem to get slimmer the deeper you go for these positions.
  15. I have a different take. I think he's indulging himself, reverting to the prima donna role he played in Minnesota. Like his teammates, he's frustrated, but because he's STEFON DIGGS, he gets to act out until people notice. Reminds me of when he went to the hospital to see Damar Hamlin. I'm sure many players wanted to go, but out of respect for the family, they stayed away. Not Diggs, who is special. Another "Look at me!" moment. He must have gotten tired of the lovey-dovey role. Didn't garner him enough attention. Let's hope he doesn't turn into a cancer.
  16. Let's see if he can coax Diggs out of his hissy fit moping.
  17. I keep thinking about Marv Levy's adage, "It's last year's rookies that are important." I assume Bernard will return stronger, and maybe a little heavier. He should be better, which isn't saying much, I realize. It sounds like his upside is a smaller Milano, which I'll take.
  18. I wonder if the Bills draft Sanders with an idea of converting him to a DE down the line. He can really rush the passer, and the Bills don't have anyone who can bring the heat consistently outside of Rousseau and Miller. Is there any chance at all of Campbell being available in the 2nd round?
  19. Forgive me, Dr. Who, but I have to point out that you misspelled the word "complement." To "compliment" means to praise; "complement" means to supplement or complete, as in what I take to be your meaning here. No blame: the word may be one of the most commonly misspelled in the language. And it usually leads to unintentionally comic results, as in extolling the benefits of bringing in a TE to compliment another TE. "Looking mighty fine today, Dawson! Those new socks?" Puts a whole new spin on the draft and free agency! 😀
  20. Of course he's not perfect. I'm just saying he has reasons to be frustrated, and it's more important to tend to these reasons than worry about his emotional equilibrium. You seem to be saying, "You know, Allen really should be a doing a better job of carrying the entire offense on his back. He gets so upset at times!"
  21. But why is Allen emotional in the first place? Could it be that he yet another play had just been wrecked by his turnstile line, and the play before that by his receiver dropping the ball or running the wrong route? Or that Dorsey had called yet another head-scratcher? Or that he had one less receiver running routes because Knox had to stay in to block? You don't see Mahomes frustrated half as often because Reid schemes his receivers, especially Kelsey, to be wide open half the time. And he has lots of time the rest of the time to sit in the pocket with his little squirrel moves until his receivers get open. Allen routinely had to dodge Brown's blown block and Saffold's blunder and buy time until his receivers broke open, only to see them drop a ball he put right in their hands. And you say he needs to work on his emotions?
  22. I agree. From the highlights, Sanders looks faster than Campbell. He closes in a hurry. I wouldn't balk at him being the choice at 27.
  23. Nonsense. He'll be available in the second round! As long as we're not stupid enough to trade up for a disaster like Cody Ford.
  24. How about he insists instead--hammers the point again and again--that the WRs need to catch the ball and the line needs to do its job.
  25. Agree. A good line would give Allen time to find his receivers AND keep him healthy. You could add Hopkins, Jefferson, AND AJ Brown and still not move the needle much if the line continues to be a sieve. Defensive linemen are some of the best athletes on the planet, yet Beane seems content with JAG players like Bates, Boettger, Edwards, Van Roten, Quessenberry, and Brown (at his best). Beane seems convinced that elite players are needed at D-line, but mediocrity will suffice on the O-line.
