  1. Who said anything about hating Edwards or even Jauron for thqt matter? I don't hate either one and in fact I think both are really good people. I'd take both as next door neighbors. I just haven't seen much from Trent on the field to warrant his annointment as the "starter" and I have no confidence in Jauron as a head coach if the goal is for him to lead the Bills to playoff victories. They both need to "show me" that they're worthy of their positions on this team. The bottom line is results and neither has produced much of that worth mentioning.

And I wasn't kidding about putting Moorman on the tickets. He's played in a Pro bowl.

I agree. Trent Edwards is really somewhat of a mystery going into this upcoming season. How well will he play? Will he be a leader? It is a big unknown. I want to think that he will be a PLAYER this year, the MAN in Buffalo this season. But we just won't know until he hits the field. Jauron leaves me wondering about his ability as well. In a big game when we are in playoff contention, will Jauron put us in a position to be winners? That seriously remains to be seen. DJ has to step up this year and become a strong coach. We have a good amount of talent, lets see DJ mold that into a team. This is his judgment year.

As for Moorman, he has been a stud for years. But last year his performance slipped for a good part of the season. He has to get back to an All-Pro level. We need his booming kicks to flip field position for us. That is a big part of any DJ gameplan.

  2. in order of importance Peters, Evans, Crowell, Williams, Butler so maybe they're signing in reverse order.

Do you really want the Bills to extend Crowell? We have all seen a lot of him the past 3 seasons, and I think he does not have much more upside. He is not a great player, nor does he have the potential to be one. He does not suck, but he is out of position on a lot of running plays and is not a great tackler. I think we can do better next year in free agency and/or the draft in finding a stud outside linebacker to line up with Poz and Kawika. For now, it will be interesting to see how much playing time Crowell and Ellison will each get. And don't forget the Pizza man, Digiorgio.

  3. This is sort of my point. McNally et al gushed over his raw talent, which somehow made it into the commentators' talking points, and which probably largely resulted in him being selected to the pro bowl.

I just question if Peters has been overhyped. Of course, there have been many other NFL players who have been overhyped--e.g., like Adam Archuletta (before people realized 5 years later how bad he was).

I agree with you JR. I am getting real tired about all the Jason Peters hype. He has had ONE strong season at left tackle, only one. The media hype of him has gotten way way out of control. Probably because noone else on the Bills is a "name" player to talk about. But watching him play, I don't think he completely dominated every guy he faced in the same way that Munoz, Boselli, Pace, Walter Jones among others has done.

If he has another strong season the Bills will renegotiate and give him the mega deal he would than deserve. But with three years left on his contract, and only one real strong season under his belt, he needs to come to camp and play under his current deal.

The hype machine in the NFL is just ridiculous. Michael Vick was the most overhyped player in the league for several years. Forget about his demise with the dogs, and he still was so overhyped. The guy could not pass a football accurately, its as simple as that. With him in jail the overhype has transferred to Vince Young who passes the ball worse than Vick ever did. As a fan, one has to forget about the media hype and watch the games yourself to draw conclusions on who can play and who can't.

  4. The positvie of this is that we are loosing close, one or two plays and those early games go our way. Also i think last year a game two loss can be blamed for by the fall out of kevin everette

Our week two loss can be blamed on the fact that our offense was god awful in that game, as JP looked completely scared, clueless and overmatched. And our defense could not get off the field on third down. Basically, after losing to Denver on the last play of the game, the next two weeks we played like the worst team in the league against two very superior opponents at that time.

That being said, I agree it is very important to get off to a very strong start this season. So much of success is built on confidence. If we can beat the Seahawks (which is very possible) and play tough against Jax, (tough place to win, but not impossible) no reason we can not start off 4-1 before the bye, and be looking at 6-2 at the midway point, with games against the Chargers, Fish and Jets to follow after the bye. With that kind of a start, an 11-5 finish is not unrealistic at all. But again, it will all come down to how we start the season, and more specifically how Trent Edwards steps up and plays from the opening whistle. He is the key. We have not had a QB have a very good ENTIRE season since Doug Flutie in 1998. (Bledsoe had a good first half to 2002) If we can finally get some good quarterbacking, we should have a very good chance of making a run at the playoffs. Go Bills.

  5. Just to throw this into the mix, but maybe the reason we drafted three corners is because the Bills are not happy with their two starters now. Greer and Mcghee were OK at best last year. Neither is a shutdown type corner. I don't think that Greer is dominant in the least. Why is he guaranteed a spot on the roster? Obviously, Terrance is a great kick returner and has some CB skills. But he was beat a lot last year, espcially on the fade pattern by the goal line. (Looked lost on several of those) Next year, possible that Greer and McGhee are no longer on the team. McKelvin and Corner could be our new starters in 2009. With James and Yabouty wild cards at this point, as to what they can bring to the team. Remember, an NFL roster is always fluid. It never stays the same from year to year.

  6. Maybe the Bengals FO are thinking... Well this is Chad being Chad... Marvin Lewis has a unique relationship with Chad Johnson. Marvin has to believe that in time Chad will quiet down and play football. Are the Bengals supposed to get rid of every player that runs their mouth? Are they going to be held hostage to players? Plus who are they going to get to replace Chad? They just rid the organization of Chris Henry. They have a great QB, a excellent RB, and 1 WR.... They are a few years removed from a team that many thought would contend with the Colts and Pats..... And now they are to rebuild again if they trade Chad....

If someone offered a 1st and 3rd for Lee Evans would you take it? Maybe... But the question is... Does that make your team better this year. Marvin Lewis is in a critical year. The Bengals dont win next year he is gone... Are you going to trade one of your top playmakers for an unproven Rookie when your job is on the line? I wouldnt. Especially if I believed that I could repair the relationship which I guarantee Marvin Lewis believes he can do in Cincy...

Listen, A first and a third is a fair offer but before we go calling the Bengals FO a bunch of dumbasses maybe we ought to take a few things into account like this is a must win year...

With this logic... The Bills would have rid themselves of Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith, and Andre Reed before they became the stars they became for us... Jim Kelly said he would NEVER play in Buffalo. I guess the Bills FO were a bunch of dumbasses and should have rid oursleves of that useless ungrateful bastard when we had the chance...

Marvin Lewis isn't repairing any relationship he may have had with Chad Johnson. The guy doesn't want to play for the Bengals any longer and has made that ABUNDUNTLY clear. To not trade him for what the Redskins are offering is insane. The Bengals are the worst run organization in football this side of the Raiders.

And Marvin Lewis is way overrated as a head football coach. As bad as the Bills have been this decade, we have OWNED the Bengals. Chad Johnson is good, but can be taken out of a game with physical play. The Bengals are making a huge mistake.

  7. So what if the kid had an outburst. We need a lot more attitude on our team anyways. All I know is that Malcolm Kelly is a football player. Anquan Boldin I believe ran close to a 4.7 forty when he was coming out four or five years ago. He fell to the second round. The man is a stud. Football speed is much more important than track speed. I have a strong feeling that the Bills are still very interested in Malcolm Kelly, obviously not at #11, but later in the first round or early in the second. If the Bills medical staff feels that his knees will hold up over the long run, than I am all for drafting him.

  8. Sorry but JP Losman is only out of here if we would get a third round for him and I doubt we do but he's worth more in my opinion because he has experience as a starter and I think he would be a heck of a backup and maybe even a starter if Trent gets hurt and I dont buy into him creating a CANCER in the Locker Room because he won't want to have a bad rep for being a Me kind of guy in which i dont see in him because we all know he has one year left and he will be a team player but you never know but I do believe some Team would've dished out a third round by now if they wanted him and to me He's definately WORTH THAT!! Looking at the Talent they surrounded him with sense he's been a board Peyton Manning would've struggled in this PATHETIC CAST of stars surrounding him OH Minus Lee Evans and Jason Peters , And Mr. LYNCH

Dude, relax about JP. I don't see any team giving up a third round pick for him. He is a marginal backup QB at best. Sure, we have not had a great cast of stars around him the past couple of years, and the playcalling has been suspect. But JP did nothing to make our offense better, which is what a QB is supposed to do. He has never beaten a good team on the road, or at home for that matter. Just look at the film of the Jaguars game last year. He had everything to play for, but played like a tentative, scared rookie. If we can get a 4th or high 5th for him, I think we take it in an instant. I would rather have Trent Dilfer backing up TE because he has so much experience if not a lot of game left.

  9. The way that I see it Darren McFadden wont make it out of the top 5 in this draft. We all know how much Dallas wants this kid, the only thing stopping Dallas from moving up in the draft to get him is what they would have to give up in return and thats both first rounders and their 2nd rounder. 3 first day picks I think is too much.

However, there are 2 key players right now that involves Dallas's 22nd & 28th picks. Chicago Bears & Mendenhall from Illinois. I see some draft experts have Mendenhall rated above McFadden in some aspects. I also have heard that the Bears are very high on Mendenhall due to the fact they are unsure of what Cedric Benson is going to do.

I think Mendenhall can give Dallas the same that McFadden would do for them. I really do see Buffalo picking up the phone and calling Dallas to see if they want to jump before the Bears to grab Mendenhall. Now what they would get in return we dont know. Wether if be the 22nd & 28th pick, or one or the other along with a 2nd rounder........

So right now, id be happy with Buffalo trading the 11th for the 22nd & their 2nd rounder for Dallas to move up and take Mendenhall at 11. Unless Russ Brandon worked his magic and got both the 22nd and 28th picks from them for the 11th. Value wise meaning points wise im not sure where it rates as a trade.........

This is just another option for us fans to ponder over to get more draft picks.......

    :P or :)

Trading down eleven places to just get a late second round pick doesn't seem enough to me. I doubt Dallas gives us two first rounders to move up to 11. However, I would switch places with Dallas to 22 if they gave us their second and third round picks. (If they have a 2nd and a 3rd?) This would give us five picks in the first three rounds. Enough to draft DE, 2WR's, CB and TE. If we could work that we would be sitting pretty. Than in rounds 4-7 we get depth on O line, DT, QB, CB, FB, the possibilities are endless.

  10. Ton of speed. Pretty damn good return man. Not had much chance at corner but he doesn't seem to have much interest in him. He would be our #5, but probably better than Dustin Fox.

I feel strong both ways about this, because I think McGee is a fabulous KR, but we may want to start giving him some time off. Chris Carr is good at that.

I would rather have Chris Carr than David Carr. Dollar for dollar he will be way more productive.

  11. In a trade down scenario this doesn't make sense? If Kelly, Sweed and Hardy are all similar in skill set and ranking and we have the chance to pick up an extra 2nd while getting one of them, you don't understand that line of thought? Okay then sorry I must be a moron.

Using the #11 on a position that will touch the ball 50-60 times a year at the receiver position also seems dumb to me, but then again I am a moron.

It's the same argument that goes for drafting a shutdown cb with the 11. Shutdown CB's are not as important in our scheme as the rest of our D. #2 WR's aren't as important in our offensive gameplan therefore it almost seems like a waste (see the Lions and Jags) to pick another first round WR.

Did you even watch our team play last year? Our receivers including Lee Evans were pretty darn bad. Lee Evans is not big enough or physical enough to be a true #1 receiver. We need playmakers on offense. It is as simple as that. We have no big stud type WR on this team. We need one. The front office knows that. The coaches know that. Why don't you know that? If we can trade down in the first round and pick up another 2nd round pick, it would be a good move. But we need to come out of this draft with a wide receiver who will make an impact from day 1.

We also need a big shutdown corner as well. Hopefully, we can sign Will James (Peterson) who visited the team this past week. Even if we do, we still need another big time corner who can play tight coverage. Greer and McGhee are nothing special. They don't suck, but they are not great. I don't care what defensive scheme you play, you need guys that can cover receivers. Look at the tape of the Bills-Patriots game in Buffalo, enough said.

We will be taking a WR and a CB with two of our top three picks. A lot of you are fired up about getting another top tight end. I think we can get by with who we have on the roster now, (I think Courtney Anderson suprises a lot of people with his ability) and draft one in the later rounds. (Anyone have any suggestions of a late round steal at TE?) I think we need another interior O lineman or D lineman with one of our top three picks. We are weak at center and right guard, and could still use some more depth on the D line.

  12. This is a joke. You really have to wonder if the Bills ever made Johnson any sort of offer. If they did, I would venture to guess that is was on the lines of what the Dolphins paid Ernest Wilford.

Taking a one year deal from the 49ers, trying to catch balls from Alex Smith, it doesn't get any worse than that. Does anyone remember the Monday night game late last season between the 49ers and Seahawks? Smith played as bad as any QB I have seen this side of vintage Joey Harrington in Buffalo circa 2006

  13. I still think the Bills should trade for GB's pick who wants a rb, grab the extra second and now you have four picks in the 2nd and 3rd (still top 100 picks) to get two lbs, a cb, and a decent rb. With the first pick, I would grab Robert Meachem...he can make an impact right away and make our running game better because he is a deep threat along with Lee. Get Harris and Durant or Okwa with the second and third, and D. Hughes with Balt.'s third.

Take any of the next level rbs whoever the Bills feel fits their scheme the best with their other second pick. JMO.

I like the idea of getting a big WR, 2LB's, CB and RB on the first day. However, if Willis is there when we pick at 12, we have to take him. Not enough has been discussed about needing another game changing receiver. A good number 2 receiver thrown into the mix should really supercharge our offense.

  14. All year folks who know the cover=2 have put the onus for stopping the run game on the linebackers. We sucked at stopping the run game. Fletcher "shoulda" gone to the pro-bowl? Shoulda and 56 pennies will get you a cup of senior citizen coffee at Mickey D's. Assuming stopping the run game is the linebackers main job in the cover-2 we sucked last year. Can a rookie linebacker make a difference? Look at who was named defensive rookie of the year this century. six out of seven were linebackers-Julius Peppers being the only exception. If Fletcher and Spikes were what we needed we'd have kept them. However if Fletcher and Spikes were what we needed we'd have been in the playoffs. Apparently DJ agrees. Go with Willis

Dude, I totally agree. I have seen several clips of Willis making plays all over the field and believe that he is the real deal. If you watch replays of the Bills games from last year you will see that Fletcher is almost always chasing the runner down the field and not standing people up at or near the line of scrimmage. Fletcher was good in pass coverage on a lot of underneath routes, but got beat A LOT on the deep middle passes to the tight end. I think Willis is the type of player you build your defense around. In my mind he is definitely an upgrade to our linebacking corp.

Too many people got caught up in the Fletcher hype. But the past two years our run defense has been just abysmal. I think back to the Bills-Raiders game two years ago in Oakland when they just ran the ball down our throats. The Redskins can have Fletcher. I will take Willis in the first and Pittmon or trade for Turner with our second.

  15. The Raiders have been flooded with phone calls about trading the first pick. They have now gone into negotiating contracts with Calvin Johnson and JaMarcus Russell. IMO Johnson is the pick here.

Former Seahawks' WR Alex Bannister and RB Josh Scobey have made FA visits to the Buffalo Bills this week. Has ANYBODY heard anything about this??!!! It's not a big deal but it would be nice to have better local coverage.

Old helmet head (Kiper) feels that the talent is only in the top 25 players. The Eagles pick #26 and sure would like CB Darrelle Revis but with his stock on the rise there's talk of him being the #1 CB this year. I wonder how the #12 slot looks to Philadelphia.

I was listening Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan on Sirius radio and they were interviewing former Dallas TE Jay Novachek. They asked him what his most memorable memory was. He proceeded to say that when he would go out for a pass and turn around, all he could see was huge O-linemen and D-linemen and no Aikman. When he would go back to the huddle, he'd ask Aikman if Aikman could see him. Aikman would answer no but he knew that Novachek would be there. Says something about chemistry, huh?

    *Sorry, no link.

I believe we met with Bannister a couple of years ago, and there was talk that we might make an offer to him as a restricted free agent. I believe he is real strong on special teams. I could see him as a replacement for the memorable Andre Davis and his two catches last year. (Although he did play well as a gunner on kick and punt coverage)

  16. #1 Oakland Raiders select to trade the pick to the San Francisco 49ers for this year's 1st and 2nd round picks and 2008's 1st and 3rd round picks.

At #1 San Francisco 49ers (via Oakland)select Calvin Johnson / WR / Georgia Tech - Alex Smitth has NO ONE to throw the ball to except Vernon Davis and Gore out of the backfield. This would immediately give them one of the premier core groups in the NFL with Gore, Johnson, and Davis. Alex Smith improved alot last year and this would only help in his development. They would then have Lelie starting on the other side (nothing special, but enough to require some safety help because of his speed) to help open up their whole offense.

#2 Detroit Lions select Jamarcus Russell / QB / LSU - Millen finally siezes the opportunity to do something right by taking the Lions "Franchise QB".

#3 Cleveland Browns select Adrian Peterson / RB / Oklahoma - He will split with "J-Lew" for a year to learn the offense and be cut loose as the Browns featured back in 08'.

#4 Tampa Bay selects Brady Quinn / QB / Notre Dame - John Gruden will still be sniffling over Calvin Johnson, but will get the QB that he wanted atleast. Quinn will learn the system with all of it's ins and outs from a seasoned vet in Garcia and be named the starter in 08'.

#5 Arizona Cardinals select Joe Thomas / OT / Wisconson - The loss of Leonard Davis is now an upgrade to a younger, more athletic tackle who will lock down the LT position for years to come.

#6 Washington Redskins select Gaines Adams / DE / Clemson - Snyder will try to trade out of #6 until the end, but will have to take the picke because Peterson went off the board at #3 to Cleveland. Adams will be an opening day starter in 07'.

#7 Minnesota Vikings select Laron Landry / S / LSU - This is a guy who can provide run support and cover a slot receiver 1-on-1. A definite upgrade for the Vikings at the S spot.

#8 Atlanta Falcons (via Houston)select Jamal Anderson / DE / Arkansas - Kerney is gone and Anderson could fill the void. He's big, strong, and surprisingly athletic for his size.

#9 Miami Dolphins select Levi Brown / OT / Penn St. - They need an OL and a quality LT is a good start.

#10 Houston Texans (via Atlanta)select Leon Hall / CB / Michigan - This is a position that they don't have any real talent. None like the package you get with Hall anyway. He's Big Ten tested and an All American. One of 07's opening day starters for Houston.

#11 Oakland Raiders select Amobi Okoye / DT / Louisville - Al Davis has got a plan with his extra picks and Okoye falls into his lap at #11. Sapp is almost 34 and on the downswing in his career. Okoye will fit perfect. The first pick in the 2nd will be Trent Edwards. The QB that Davis has been eying other than Russell.

#12 Buffalo Bills select to trade the pick to the Tennessee Titans for their 1st and 2nd in this year's draft. I know you guys are going to scream over this one

At #12 Tennessee Titans select Marshawn Lynch / RB / Cal - Lindale White is eating himself out of a job and Tennessee is in need of a RB. If they hold off until the 2nd or 3rd round the other couple of guys they would want will probably be gone. Lynch is a pretty physical specimen at 5'11" 215lbs. "VY" and Lynch will be Tennesee's version of Batman and Robin.

#13 St. Louis Rams select to trade the pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for their 1st and 2nd round picks.

At #13 Pittsburgh Steelers (via St. Louis)select Patrick Willis / LB / Ole Miss - The Steelers released Joey Porter and when Buffalo trades out of the #12 spot, they POUNCE on Willis as quick as possible. Willis will play Porter's vacated LB spot for the Steelers and quickly become a fan favorite.

#14 Carolina Panthers select Greg Olsen / TE / Miami - This guy will make the all rookie team and if Steve Smith stays healthy, maybe the Pro Bowl. He has great speed, great hands, and is a decent blocker. He makes an immediate impact for a Carolina offense if their "all world" WR can stay healthy because Smith will open up holes for Olsen.

#15 St. Louis Rams (via Pittsburgh)select Darrelle Revis / CB / Pitt - The Rams pick up an extra pick and still get the guy they had #1 for their slot on the board.

#16 Green Bay Packers select Ted Ginn Jr. / WR / Ohio St. - The Packers are a little upset that they didn't have Lynch fall into their lap, but they'll get over it by drafting a WR who will be another speedy target for Favre and a KR as well.

#17 Jacksonville Jaguars select Adam Carriker / DE / Nebraska - Del Rio will be extatic that Carriker falls into his hands. He's just a Del Rio kind of guy. Big, strong, and versatile for the Jags DL. He will line up as a starting DE in 07' until one of their tackles go down to injury and then he will slide to a DT spot. They improve their defense once again.

#18 Cincinnati Bengals select Reggie Nelson / S / Florida - They could go Alan Branch here, but I don't think Marvin Lewis would put up with his laziness. Nelson would help to improve a shakey pass defense and be an immediate starter for the Bengals.

#19 Buffalo Bills (via Tennessee)select Paul Posluzny / LB / Penn St. - We increased our # of picks which gives us the option of trading up again if someone else we covet is still on the board late in the 1st and still get a LB who will undoubtedly start from opening day in 07'. He is a "Marv" kind of guy. Crowell will play the MLB spot, Poz will take over back at his natural OLB spot, and we will be drafting another LB later on to rotate with him and Ellison.

#20 New York Giants select Jon Beason / LB / Miami - They need help at LB and Beason is their answer with the 20th pick.

#21 Denver Broncos select Dwayne Bowe / WR / LSU - They got Javon Walker last year via Green Bay and Rod Smith won't play forever. Shannahan is setting Cutler up for success in Denver.

#22 Dallas Cowboys select Aaron Ross / CB / Texas - Jerry Jones gets a hometown player with alot of upside. Ross is the best corner available and this would allow them to move Anthony Henry to S if they would like. They're pissed that Nelson and Bowe are off the board, but they still get a guy who can help them in 07'.

#23 Kansas City selects Robert Meacham / WR / Tennessee - They need a WR and Meacham is the best guy available. He put up huge #'s at Tennessee this past season with 1,298 yards and 11 TD's in the nations best conference, the SEC. He will start opening day opposite of Eddie Kennison.

#24 New England Patriots (via Seattle)select Chris Houston / CB / Arkansas - Asante Samuel is trying to push his way out of New England and Houston would slide right into his vacated slot. He's a fast, physical CB who would turn out just fine under Bellicheck's tutelidge.

#25 New York Jets select Jarvis Moss / DE / Florida - They're disappointed to not get one of the 2 CB's they were hoping to land in Ross and Houston, but may have found their next "John Abraham" in the process. Younger and at a cheaper price of course.

#26 Philidelphia Eagles select Michael Griffin / S / Texas - He could be a force in their secondary. They already solidified their LB core by adding Spikes. Griffin would be able to learn from one of the best in Brian Dawkins while bringing the same physical nature to the other S spot. Could turn out to be a great pick for them a couple of years down the line.

#27 New Orleans Saints select Dwayne Jarrett / WR / USC - The loss of Joe Horn was a blow to the team regardless of what they believe. But put the talented Jarrett with Colston and Henderson? Uh-huh. The Saints fans will be saying "Joe who?"

#28 New England Patriots select Anthony Gonzales / WR / Ohio St. - And the Patriots just keep going and going and going.

#29 Baltimore Ravens select Joe Staley / OT / Central Michigan - Has all the tools to be a good NFL OT for a long time. Ogden is getting old and the Ravens need to start looking towards the future. They will continue by going with a LB in the 2nd round.

#30 San Diego Chargers select Brandon Siler / LB / Florida - Donnie Edwards is gone and Siler has the potential to be just as good. They really wanted another WR, but none are worthy of this pick. Siler may not be either, but they will get a player with tons of NFL potential.

#31 Chicago Bears select Lawrence Timmons / LB / FSU - Lance Briggs wants out and may hold out. Timmons could step into his slot. Has alot of upside because of his closing speed and agility. He would fit well into the Bears "Cover 2" scheme.

#32 Indianapolis Colts select Marcus McCaully / CB / Fresno St. - Another "Cover 2" guy that Dungy will be glad to have in the mix. Look for them to get a LB with their second choice in the draft.

It's possible that none of this could happen at all of course, but it was pretty interesting to speculate. I bet you that I get more right than "Draft Guru" Mel Kiper. Let me know what you guys think

Who will play QB for Cleveland this year? They need a QB much more desperately than a RB. They will not win with Charlie Frye at QB. I say they take whoever is left between Russell and Quinn.

  17. An interior D-lineman I would expect.

You really think adding Walker is going to move this unit up in the run defense area?

Again, Buffalo finished 28-th in the leaugue. Where do you actually think they will be this year

with the current group? Honestly? 25 - 20 in the NFL?

Man, I agree we need a BIG wide body in the middle. I hope we take Alan Branch somewhere in the first round. I think run defense is still our achilles heel.

  18. I think they are deep at DE and DT so taking one (especially early) would be a bit of a waste because they would probably end up on the PS or cut. With Hargrove (a DE that can also play DT) and Anderson signing their tenders, The Bills now have 4 DE's (a position where only 2 see the field at a time) and 5 DT's (a position where only 2 see the field at a time), carrying anymore would be wasting roster spots in IMO

Tim Anderson will be cut in training camp. I do not see him making the final roster. What has Hargrove done to get everyone so excited? He is our 4th DE until proven otherwise. He is too small in the low 270's to play in the middle. I am not impressed with our DT's as far as stopping the run is concerned. Unless McCargo makes a huge jump, we will need another very big body in the middle to clog up the run.

Don't count us out of taking Alan Branch or another big body on the first day. If we fortify the D-line, the rest of the defense will be much better irregardless of who is playing linebacker and DB.

  19. We have too many needs for this to be a good strategy. In fact if Willis or Peterson are not there at 12, we should try and trade down.

I believe it is safe to say that Peterson will not fall past Minnesota at 7. Whether we trade up with Washington to steal Peterson in my opinion comes down to how much better our team feels that A-Pete is over the other backs in the draft. I don't think we are going to get Turner, so if Peterson is that much better than Lynch, Pittmon or whomever, I think we need to think big and make the move to jump up and get him if it includes next years picks. We still will have seven picks this year to play with to acquire linebackers, D-line and corners to fortify the defense.

Why can't we use our second and two thirds to come up with at least two if not three starters on defense? It is not impossible. Moving up to six by trading next year's first will bring huge dividends in A-Pete and we still can fill our other needs later on. Besides, if Peterson plays like he I think he can, that first round pick to Washington next year will be in the mid-20's.

  20. No way we should take Branch, Carriker, or Okoye with 12. The addition of Darwin Walker is huge and fits our system perfectly. McCargo will be healthy this year and Kyle Williams can rotate in. If Peterson is gone at 12 then Bills should take Willis. Leon Hall is another option who lacks top end speed but is a great fit for the Tampa 2 we run.

With the many holes we still have to fill on our team, I do not think we would get nearly enough big plays from Leon Hall to justify making a cornerback our first pick at 12. LB, DL, RB if we make at Peterson our first pick.

Out of our 8 picks, we need to get very solid contributions from at least 6 or 7. And at least 4 of these picks need to have star potential. That kind of production this year with continued improvement from the rest of the team will put us right in the thick of the playoff race. Not on the fringes like last year, but controlling our own destiny when it gets cold out.

  21. There is no doubt that we need a LB and a RB more than we need a DT. But, IMO, there is little or no doubt that if our defensive front four is crappy, decent, good, or great, our entire defense is going to be commensurately crappy, decent, good or great. Branch or Okoye could make them good or perhaps great. Willis and Poz, if the front four are crappy or decent, cannot make the defense good or great.

Draft Branch at #12. Trade our #2 for Turner unless we love one of the remaining LBs in round two.

Yes, I know Branch has question marks. They all have question marks. If our scouts think he is a character risk then I trust their judgment and wouldn't draft him myself. I doubt they do, however.

I agree. If we do not trade up for Peterson and he and Willis are gone at 12, I say take Branch. We do have several DT's, but none of them are huge monster, spaceeaters in the middle. To be successful we need to build from the lines going back. Taking Branch, and having him rotate with McCargo, Walker, Williams and Tripplet is fine with me. The middle of our defense was the worst in the league last year bar none. Adding Branch with Darwin Walker does a lot to fix that. Once your lines are set, everything else will fall into place.

  22. I don't think I conveyed what I was thinking very well. I'd of course love to have Peterson, but I don't think the Bills have any realistic chance to get him. I'm guessing they'll either draft Lynch or spend a second rounder on someone, but in the end I don't think the Bills will have a very strong stable of running backs this year. Who knows, though -- maybe Lynch or whoever it is that they draft (or even Turner) will surprise. It's not like I haven't been wrong about these things a million times before.

If the Bills really want Adrian Peterson badly enough, they need to move ahead of Minnesota to get him. If he is still on the board at 6 when Washington is picking don't be shocked if we offered next years first round pick to move up and take him. I am sure a lot of people will say this is way too much to give up. I say if you want to win in this league you need marquee players. Peterson will be just that. If we get him we have a chance to do something really big this year. Yea, I know we need linebackers, but we can win if we can get the offense in gear. Look at where we ranked the past few years on O. AT THE BOTTOM. With a good offensive line, Adrian Peterson will run wild for us.

What does everyone think about giving up next year's first? Is that too much when there are many other running backs to choose from later on?
