There is a rumor going around that Spiller/his agent are looking for top-5 money, because they feel his is a top-5 talent. Again it's just a rumor.
If that is true, than CJ Spiller will never where a Bills uniform-mark my words.
-
trade him, absolutly brainless, whats wrog with you guys.
sometime i think you guys get off on looking like a total idiot!
Why is that brainless? It was brainless drafting a player at a position that we are as deep at as any team in the NFL. We needed OLine help and we still do. I would feel very comfortable right now if we had a half decent Left tackle. Oak whatever your name is, keep bitching to me about how brainless my idea is if Spiller is not signed two weeks from now.

I think the ironic thing about the Spiller holdout is that after going to Bills training camp last Saturday, I came away with the impression that drafting Spiller was a BIG MISTAKE. The reason being is that we are LOADED at RB already. Have any of you watched Jacquie Bell practice? To me, he looks like a stud in the making. Marshawn looks powerful and motivated, and Freddie is already a stud back. Throw in McIntyre as a fullback/blocker/H-back, and Simpson as a scatback/kick returner and we are more than set at RB.
I honestly think the Bills believe that as well after a week of training camp. Our secondary and RB corp are top notch. So my thinking is that the Bills are not wowing Spiller's agent with a tremendous deal. (Sure it is between 8 and 10, but probably nowhere close to #8"s deal. If Spiller is not signed by the beginning of next week, what about the possibility of trading his rights to someone who has a very good OT prospect they are willing to part with. A team in need of an electric RB. We are in desperate need of OT's. Looking at this team right now, it sure looks like we should have taken the top OT on the board when we were drafting at #9. Anthony Davis while maybe not an automatic sure thing would have solved a much pressing need (if we could have signed him).
Buddy Nix is a toughguy. I think he is a pragmatist as well. (can't wait to hear what he says about Spiller if not signed this week) Would any of you be shocked if we tried to trade Spiller's rights if he is not signed shortly? Just some thoughts from a different bent on the subject.

So I'm reading the whole pecking order articles over and some of them say that Trent outplayed Brohm and Fitzy but can anyone who has been going to the practices give a true low down on how the arms compare and if Gailey has been really favoring Trent or is he still looking at Brohm just as much? It's tough to get an idea from just the highlights so perhaps a real fan opinion on the game would help. I'd be going to the camps but live in FLA now so any news i get is via Internet.
MClem, I was at Saturday's practice at St. John Fisher. (and if anyone cares, I was the only one there wearing a Paup Jersey-funny thing about that is that the young fans have no idea who he even was)
I tried to watch the QB's as best I could. But I will say that the whole thing is very spread out and it is hard to actually watch a lot of what is going on. That being said, NONE of our QB's is better than average out there. They all can throw the football decently, but none of them has anything special about them-plain and simple. The biggest worry we have is whether our OT's can play a lick. I think that Cornell Green will be fine at right tackle. But watching Meredith, Bell, and Wang at LT makes me scared. Meredith and Bell are quite frankly not very powerful men. And Wang is a rookie who looks physical, but is a step slow. But getting back to your original post, right now there is noone on the roster who will beat Trent out as the starting QB. But that could change once the preseason starts.

OLB- Maybin and Mitchell
ILB- Poz and Davis
imo the best starting lb combo we have. If Mitchell is healthy enough that is.
What makes you or anyone think that Maybin is going to be starting? He hasn't shown anything whatsoever yet. If Battan, Ellis, Torbor, Kelsay, Schobel, or even Coleman play better, than Maybin is on the bench or maybe even gets cut. (That would be funny and pathetic at the same time) Remember Gailey said that the best players will play. I am going to believe that until I see otherwise.
-
Just curious, who do you guys think will be surprisingly good this year. Here are a few guys I think are candidates:
Eric Wood - I think he's going to come back with a vengeance.
Steve Johnson - May end up our #2 receiver.
Reggie Corner - May end up our #2 cornerback.
Thoughts?
Corner is terrible. He is small, and doesn't have the quickness to play in the NFL. I think he gets cut. I agree with you on Wood and Johnson.
-
Sure I do. Why would he pose an IF/THEN regarding something that in know way relates to what I was saying. In no way did I express or insinuate that OTAs, film study, years in the league, acclimation to the size and speed of the game were all that was necessary to be an "all pro".
I can play this game too. "Why am I even explaining this?"
Dude,
I can not stand reading your posts. You write in a style and tone that is really difficult to read. Do you not have a life that you have to respond a dozen times to what someone else says?? And for god sakes get over Jason Campbell. He sucks. Have you watched him play over the years? He brings nothing to the table. He was horrible in the Bill-Redskins game at Fedex Field in 2007. And is Troy Smith even on an NFL roster? You are grasping at straws. If we get any kind of decent O line play, whoever starts for us will be good enough to get the job done.
If you are going to bore us with your babble in the future, try and discuss something marginally original.

Alright metzelaars doesn't want to reveal the man behind the mask but:
Williamsville North '97
Canisius College '01
live in Denver
Go Spartans. I was class of 83. When I was back in Buffalo this past spring, went by the old school and it still looks the same as it did 30 years ago! Ugly than and ugly still!!
Born in Detroit 1965
Moved to Buffalo 1976 (mother still lives there)
Univ of Michigan 87
Lived in Atl ever since. As a sports town can NOT compare to Buffalo. But with the Sunday Ticket I NEVER miss a Bills game. And I do get to see the Sabres twice every season.
As for Bills games, went to the Music City miracle and the playoff loss in Miami when Flutie was sacked on the 5 yrd line. Anyone else on here been to both of those games?

Worst post ever. If Revis blows his knee out, which can happen on any play in the most physical sport in the world, the Jets will cut him and pay him nothing. Players should try and get paid as much as they can when they can because the NFL is a cruel business with no guaranteed contracts.
C. Biscuit-are you really an executive with the players union? Sure players deserved to get paid. But they should feel fortunate to be playing a game and getting paid for it. You don't think the Jets will survive without Daryl Revis? He is good, but did you see him get toasted over and over in the AFC Championship game by numerous Colt receivers? There are hundreds of guys that can line up and play DB. A lot of these players have such inflated worth it is ridiculous. There are thousands and thousands of guys who would love to play this great game for much less money than what any of these prima donas make.
Football is the utmost team game. And other than a very few special QB's (Brees, Manning, Brady) everyone is replacable. And that is what makes this game so beautiful. I would love to see the Jets just say to Revis. You will not be paid #1 DB money in the league. You don't like it, go sit at home.

Go Brohm!! If reports were 100% accurate and the QB derby was too close to call, go with the player who has the most upside. At this point that player is Brian Brohm. Even if Gailey believed that Edwards was slightly ahead of Brohm, I would still trot Brohm out there with the first team and let Edwards run the second team. That way, you see if Edwards has the competitive fight to reclaim the starting position and at the same time, you provide Brohm with added confidence, as well as an opportunity to fail/succeed, which he hasn't had yet...
I like that Brohm is showing some confidence that he can get the job done. But it still remains to be seen if he or any of this very questionable lot can get it done. I think practice is important. But what will really matters is what happens in the preseason games. With this QB competition, the preseason games may actually be worth watching intently for a change. Whoever can move the team the best, and lead this team to points should be our starter. I don't care which of the three it is. I just want points and wins. Hopefully, Gailey will get the best out of all three. I am excited!!

Jonathan Scott has absolutely no skill whatsoever to play any O line position at the NFL level. His play in the game at Miami last season was some of the WORST O line play I have ever seen at any level. His technique and footwork are just atrocious. I am not an O line coach, but my son plays a wicked right guard for one of the best coached middle school teams you will ever see down here in Georgia. If he or any of his teammates played with such poor technique and fire, they would never see the field. (I find it mind blowing that any pro football team would look at this guy)
I tell my son with some of the garbage masquerading as NFL talent that is playing O line currently in the NFL, if you are big enough and can get thru college not getting severely injured, you will definitely get a shot at playing O line in the NFL. And Jonathan Scott is definitely at the top of any list of garbage O lineman in the NFL.

I think I am one of the more cautiously optimistic fans on this board. I like the moves we have made in the offseason. But we still have big question marks at QB and O line. This is where I think our new head coach will put a much better scheme together that will give the players we do have a much better chance of succeeding. (I think many of us fans have forgotten or failed to realize how very bad our offensive game planning, coaching and teaching was under Dick Jauron) If nothing else there should be much more cohesion, purpose and direction under Gailey. This guy has always been a winner, and will get whatever talent we do have to play up to its potential. Barring a severe rash of injuries as we have had in years past, I see us competing for a wild card spot late into the season.I'm just curious about the make up of some of the people on here. Is it in your genes that some of you are so pessimistic of the Bills? Is it so deeply ingrained in your souls that the outlook is so bad?I know that most of us here have an optimistic outlook of the Bills, no matter how bleak things have looked for a while. The majority of us have read up and studied our team and know things haven't worked out the best for years. But we realize things can go better. How can things go worse?
We've upgraded our D and we have a man in charge who is known for making the most of an O. If we had upgraded our O in the draft instead of the D, I bet some of you would still find something to complain about.
Seriously though, I'm just curious, have some of you been so pessimistic all your life?
I'm not saying at all that you shouldn't post. I actually like reading your points of views at times because it's good to see different aspects and views of the game. But really, pessimism can go too far.
I'de much rather read optimistic posts from people who do their research (like a lot of people here do).
Thoughts?
A big test for this team will be week 2 in Green Bay. For the opener, we will be obviously jacked playing our hated rivals at home. They do not have much offense, so a strong defensive performance with a solid conservative gameplan that minimizes mistakes should get us a victory. But the following week going on the road against a VERY good offensive team, we will need the offense to play lights out to have a chance. In past years, this was the kind of game we absolutely got smoked in. Jauron never had the team in any frame of mind to compete against a juggernaut offense. (We never had the mentality to compete matching point for point) The weather will still be good in Wisconsin in September, so I will be very interested to see the scheme we come up with that gives us a chance to win. That is always the mark of any good coach, giving your team a chance to win. I hope Gailey is that guy, because Jauron and his predecessors certainly were not.
-
I'll never forget the battle between Miami & SD in the playoffs in the early 80's (that went into overtime). That was a hell of a game. RIP Air Coryell.
One of the best games of the modern era by far. Coryell always looked so stressed and tense on the sidelines. But he was a tremendous coach, and increased the entertainment value of the NFL exponentially with his downfield passing genius.

Benson arrested for assualt. Allegedly punched a bar employee.
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/sha...rcTrk=RTR_95649
If Benson is suspended by the league, maybe the Bengals will want to trade for Lynch? He'll fit right in!

I think Benson gets at least 4 games if not more for his latest incident. The guy is a punk. Goodell knows this, and I bet you he comes down HARD on him. Prediction is that the Bengals cut him. He makes Marshawn look like a choir boy.

It just goes to show you. My thread has been up for a few hours and even though the thread title calls for excited and optimistic Bll Fans, the thread is peppered with grief, misery and doom.
I think there may be no hope. I'm guessing in the coming years, the superbowl after party in downtown Buffalo will be attended by all these negative posters proclaiming 'all along I supported the Bills...through thick and thin'
Back to your apocalyptic countdown calenders. Jackals!

Dude, I love the Bills. Every year I am excited about the season. By the end of June, I have forgotten all the crap from last season, and am getting fired up for this season. Even more so this season because we finally have a COACH who I believe understands what it takes to win in the NFL. I love football. The Bills are my team. They will always be my team. They are a huge part of me. Simple as that. Season starts in 11 weeks. Training camp starts in about a month. I will be up in Buffalo with my daughter over the weekend when training camp starts visiting my mother. She is 69 years old and loves the Bills. We will go to St. Johns Fisher and watch a practice. I have never been there. I will be there with my mother and my daughter who is 12. Three generations of Bills fans watching OUR team. I am getting excited about it just writing this. I will be passionate about this team as long as I live, and hope to share that with my grandkids one day.

I would be fine with this.... as long as it is Fitz that they cut. I still feel there is some unexplored potential with TE and therefore worth keeping around for this season. Fitz is a known quantity to whom I say "no thank you"
What are you talking about? For the love of god, what "unexplored potential" does TE have that Fitzie doesn't? Why do so many of you on here still like Trent, but can't stand Fitzie? Trent played a bunch in the past 3 years. He has shown nothing. He is missing the most important ingredient that all great QB's have. The ability to make plays and to play with confidence. He rarely makes a play, and he plays with no confidence. Fitzie makes plays, and is a leader. Why does Trent have upside? He was not a winner at Stanford, and has played some of the worst QB us Bills fans have ever seen. The Monday nite debacle against the Browns should have gotten him a one way ticket out of town. Give Fitzie a real offensive gameplan and watch him go.
Does anyone on here remember the Rams-Texans game several years back when Fitzie threw for over 300 yards in the second half to lead a comeback from 27-3? The guy can play. The coaches will see that.

The Patriots may still be competetive, but their reign as a top flight team is over. Their GM whose moves have made Bellichick a legend is gone, most of their veterans are old/retired/gone, their defense is a shell of its former self, the anchor of their line is disgruntled, and Tom Brady has a wife and kid to chase around instead of living and breathing football.
I'm not predicting they'll flat out suck, but it wouldn't surprise me to see them finish under .500.
U have got to be kidding me. I have heard some innane posts on here, but this has got to take the cake. Last I looked the Pats still have Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Welker will be back. As long as they have Brady, they are good for 10 wins minimum. Hopefully, we will be able to compete with them now that we have a real coach who will hopefully play to win, instead of playing not to lose. What you say is plain WRONG!! They were the length of the football away from beating the Colts in Indy when the Colts were still playing all their starters. Sure they got wupped by the Ravens, but don't you think that was a wakeup call for them? Do you think the players and coaches they have are just going to mail in the season? Seriously, if you want to write something, think before you start typing.
-
They won't even attempt to put him on the practice squad, they'd just let him loose. It looks like it's just a matter of time. We can thank the strange maneuverings of Josh McDaniels for this. No picks needed.
Buffalo's also also close as Quinn can get to is home state of Cleveland. Also the easiest looking job to steal when he begins his search for a new team. I'd like to see him and Brohm compete for the top spot.
I am a big Fitzie fan!! I am going on the record that he will have a good shot to be our starting QB this year. Not saying our offense will be great this year. But I think that we will be much improved, to at least watchable, and possibly good at times with Gailey leading us. I am interested to see who is the starter. It will be fun to watch. But I would be very surprised if Fitzie did not look solid and win the starting job.
-
I was hoping we were going to get him. Guess I am a moron too.
Jason Campbell is no better than what we have now. And to be quite honest, I think Ryan Fitzpatrick has much more big play potential than Campbell. If Campbell was anything, why do you think the Skins traded for another overrated QB in Donavan McNabb? Did you watch the Bills-Redskins game in DC back at the end of 2007? Campbell was horrible that game. All he could throw was the 5-7 yard dump off to Chris Cooley. Give the negativity a rest MPL. (what kind of a user name is that anyways-do you love maple syrup or something?)
Just because we did not make any big splashs at QB or LT this offseason doesn't mean we can't have a solid offense. Spiller was the best running back hands down coming out in this years draft. Add him to an offense which was decent running the football with a MUCH BETTER offensive mind running the show, and we have the makings of a solid Offense. Between Shawn Nelson, Marcus Easley, Steve Johnson, and James Hardy, I believe we will have enough downfield size and speed to take some heat off of Evans. I think you are giving way too little attention to the atrocious scheme and play calling we had going on offense with Jauron, Schonert, and Van Pelt running things.
At the NFL level all the players are great athletes. The difference is how successful the scheme you are running is with the type of players you have. Give Gailey a chance. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
-
schobel deserves to play with a contender. he wants to be traded to a contender but doesn't want to say the Buffalo won't contend.
Why does he deserve to play for a contender? He should not have signed that huge extension before the 2007 season if he wanted to play for a contender so badly. Why are so many of you so sympathetic to Schobel? Sure he was a good player..But absolutely NEVER a leader on the team. And he certainly did not make everyone around him better. We have won absolutely nothing with him on our team. Maybe if he was more of a leader, this team would have been in much better shape. I think what most of you do not realize is that a team needs its best players to be vocal leaders. He has never been that. He does his job, but never took it upon himself to be even the slightest spokesperson for the team. He played in a vacuum like most of the guys on this team have done. Not the kind of guy who inspires those around him to play better.
-
What the Bills COULD NOT do was get sacked, or throw something short of the goal line. They were out of timeouts. It was first down, so if the play was developing that slowly, you gotta throw that thing out of the endzone if the first two reads aren't there. Plus, Flutie had to know that with the blocking scheme, the RT wasn't blocking Armstrong. Get the ball out!! Anyway, it's over and done and in the past...
I was at that game sitting between the thirties. It poured about 30 minutes before gametime. Than the sun came out and it was unbelievably hot and humid for the entire game. I had my Flutie jersey on and got plenty of abuse from Phish fans for it, who basically suck ass. (gave out my share of sh-t as well) Flutie definitely had to get rid of that ball at the end of the game. NO WAY he could take the hit in that situation. Moulds was a beast in that game-just ate up Terrel Buckley from what I recall. Looking back our 1998 and 1999 teams were very competitive. Hopefully, we get back to that level and beyond soon enough. I have a good feeling about what Chan Gailey is going to bring to the table. I also went to the Music City Miracle. Anybody else on here go to both of those games? Two tough games I tell you what. Seems like a lifetime ago.
-
i've been in the camp that Schobel conducted himself with grace and calss as a Buffalo Bill. i thought he was often under-appreciated by the fan base, and was glad to have him on the team.
all that ended today. it takes you until June 10th to come out with this lame-a$$ed pussyfooted commentary that seems designed to hamstring the bills and sound like you're still a decent guy to the fans? i think this is even worse than jason peters.
I agree. The guy was a good player, but nowhere near a hall of famer. Since we have been so bad this decade, and he was a good player, everyone makes him out to have been the savior of the franchise. Well my friends he is not even close to that. On a lot of teams, he would have been a decent DE and nothing more. There were many games that he was invisible in. That being said, management needs to see if he wants to be traded. And if he does, than lets try and get some O line help with him as bait. Any sentimentality towards Schobel is definitely being misplaced as far as I am concerned. What I don't understand is why he is ready to not play after only 9 years in the league. Pretty sad when you lose your desire that quickly. He should just ask for a trade and lets get on with it. The guy is a hick from Texas and has absolutely no savvy with how he is spinning this. At least Favre makes you still want to root for him. Schobel-Meh!!!

I wonder if there's any truth to the rumor that the injury was the result of Wang getting the 'Troy Vincent" treatment. Apparently Wang was acting all cocky and the defense got all bent out of shape.
Troy Vincent was terribly overrated by the time he came to the Bills. The only person who thought Troy Vincent was great was Troy Vincent himself. The ultimate clubhouse lawyer and not much more. It was pretty dam stupid what he did to JP Losman-thats for sure.
-
Seriously. People act like because athletes get paid a lot of money, they are supposed to be robots and not have the same personal problems we all have. It's really dumb to assume something, especially because a player missed a VOLUNTARY practice.
You sound like a moron. When your team has not made the playoffs in a decade, EVERY practice should be MANDATORY, all year long. I agree with the original poster. Nelson (who had a negligible impact last year) has missed a lot of practice and game time in the year and a half he has been a Bill. He is not going to get better missing practice at any time during the year. If he had a death in his family they should just say that. Short of that, he needs to be out there. We all have personal problems. You deal with them, and keep working. The guy is what 23, maybe 24. At that age, there should not be much to distract you from your goals. It is called commitment my friend. And so far in his career, Nelson seems to always be injured or missing. Just my observation.

Dude,
This is a chat room dude. People say all sorts of things on here. She posted decently. But nothing to get all emotional about. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think a little bit of conflict is always good. If she didn't like it here, so be it. There are thousands of us who will still communicate on here. So to care even the slightest as to who is posting is putting WAY to much attention in your life to this board. It is about the TEAM, not who is posting my friend. Leave it at that. Remember this is not church. Civility and the internet do not always go hand in hand.
