Antonio Bryant cut by Bengals...
Paup 1995MVP replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Revis got his signing bonus already when he signed his original contract. And the Jets are not telling him that he has to play under his original contract. They have made him (based on reports I have heard) a 10 year/$120 million offer. And I am sure that includes a large signing bonus. The guy is your typical athlete who thinks he is better than he really is because his agent and the media say so. The NFL is the greatest team game in the world. The Jets are not going to cave in to his demands. He is not bigger than the team. In the NFL, teams almost never cave. The game is greater than its players. The owners know that. They know that we the fans want our TEAMS to win. And we will always love our TEAMS. They know that the Jets' fans will be rooting like crazy come opening day whether Revis is playing or not. Same thing happened with Peters. The Bills were not going to cave in to his demands. Instead we just traded him. And seriously, do any of you seriously dislike the team more because we got rid of a lazy, seriously overrated lineman who has a penchant for getting injured? Anyone who has watched this great game for any length of time has to agree with me. -
What about David Nelson at WR? He looks to be a possible stud in the making. I would keep him over Roosevelt. Don't know what all the fuss about him is. He looks frail, and his punt returning skills look average to me. I would go with Donald Jones as the sixth receiver if we keep that many. See no reason to keep Schouman. He is not an NFL caliber player. NEVER seen anyone get hurt as much as him. Would he even get a look by a good team? Not a chance. See ya Derek.

Did you not watch the same game as everyone else? Chad Jackson came to play last nite my friend. I would be very happy with our top 4 receivers of Evans, Parrish, C. Jackson and David Nelson. Write it down. Steve Johnson did not look like a starting NFL receiver last nite. Hopefully he will develop. But Jackson looks much more polished and physical at this point.

Bears need a backup to Cutler
Paup 1995MVP replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would you trade them the QB who is probably the best we have (maybe Brohm will prove me wrong) and gives us the best chance of winning games? The anti Fitzie sentiment is absolutely ridiculous on this board. Who gives us the best chance to win against Miami? Seriously does anyone on this message board think that Edwards gives us a better chance than Fitzie to beat Miami opening day? I rest my case. -
The O line was fine on Friday nite. That has become the party line for far too long around here. (terrible O line is the reason for our terrible Quarterbacking) BS. Trent sucked, and has shown no improvement. No QB gets unlimited time to pass in the NFL. The defenses are usually quite good at this level. Any QB only has so much time to throw. Your continuing to apologize and find excuses for his poor play just sounds ridiculous. Watch any other NFL QB. They may not all be great, but they all step up and chuck the ball DOWN the field with authority. (Even Levi Brown did that) Trent plays with no fire, grit and passion, and it has contaminated the entire offense. One more poor performance and he is DONE!!!

Why is everyone giving up?
Paup 1995MVP replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1, I am in agreement on that. Someone has to step up. I seriously think Thursday nite will be Trent's last stand. If he shows nothing more than he has already as far as moving the team and putting points on the board, than let Fitzie and Brohm fight it out. And what the hell, give Brown a chance as well. I know most of you hate Fitzie, and he is far from being very good. But he doesn't play scared and I think actually has the confidence of his teammates that he can make some plays. But I do want to see what Brohm has this week. He can not be worse than what we have already seen, and hopefully can be much better. I think we have seen what Edwards has. And it is pretty putrid in all facets of being a QB. I just don't know what is going to make him all of a sudden catch lightning in a bottle, and become a solid NFL QB. He just does not have "it". The confidence that says, I am a leader of this team and I think that I can make a play at anytime to win the game. He is still scared to step up in the pocket and rifle a 20-25 yard strike down the middle of the field in a place that only his receiver can catch it. -
Rather be in our position than the Redskins?
Paup 1995MVP replied to AllDayADay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I appreciate you trying to find something positive because you are a Bills fan, and that is cool. I am usually as optimistic as anyone on this message board. However, on the whole we were terrible the other nite, save for the run blocking and the running of Simpson and Bell. Our starting QB looked as lost as he has in the past, and our defense was out of position in pass coverage something awful. (and that includes LB's and DB's) But to say that Reggie Corner is making "uncharachteristic" mistakes is ridiculous. The guy has been terrible since he put on a Bills uniform other than the Broncos game two years ago. He is small, slow, and has lousy hands. He is definitely NOT an NFL caliber player, simple as that. He typifies why we have been so bad for so long. Just not talented enough to be in the NFL. I would put Trent and several others in that category as well. -
If there is TRULY an open QB competition
Paup 1995MVP replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What game were you watching last nite? Edwards was downright horrible. Defenses know he will not throw the intermediate pass across the middle of the field so they crowd are receivers and play all throws towards the sidelines. And he has no accuracy on the deep ball as exhibited when he overthrew Stevie J by 5 yards. Can you really see Trent leading an offense that can score in the 20's on a regular basis? I just can't see it. As for Fitz, I have always been a big supporter of his. But I will admit he is not a stud in the slightest. But he brings some moxie and savvy to the table at times which Trent just doesn't have. I hope Brohm is the answer. But if not, based on what I have seen from both TE and RF over the past year plus, there is absolutely NO WAY that you can honestly say that Trent should be starting ahead of Fitzie. -
It doesn't matter !!!!!!
Paup 1995MVP replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The air went out of this team after the holding penalty on Stupar. But not so much the penalty, but because on the next play Trent did not look to throw for the first down. He was content to make the dumpoff to Marshawn-who almost got the first on his own. Trent has no confidence to make plays, does not light a fire under his teammates, and I think the team suffers with him on the field. We just looked very flat out there tonite. Just a very poor effort all around. Until we get some decent QB play, we are not going to win many games. Another bad game by Trent, and I think he gets cut. Fitzie, while not great by any means still can move the team somewhat. I think Brohm needs to be given every chance to be the starter. On a somewhat brighter note, David Nelson looks like a diamond in the rough. He looks and plays like an NFL player. He could be our number two guy very soon, or at least in the regular rotation. And at RB we are LOADED with Freddie or without. But it all comes down to QB play. And right now we don't have it. And the pick was Trent's fault all the way. Throwing late to the outside when the corner has inside position, and is already breaking on the route is all on the QB. No way Lee is going to catch that ball. -
So why do you have to put the color into it Tgreg? Why does it matter what color the owner is? You are forgetting that Revis is one of 53 players on a team. Football is a team game. It is about winning for your TEAM and your FANS. It is a game. The owners make the rules. I own a business. Do you think I am going to let my employees make the rules when I take all the risk? Not on your life. Revis is blessed with a lot of ability, but he is replaceable like every other player save 3 QB's by the name of P. Manning, Brady and Brees. Go back and watch the AFC Championship game again. Revis was LIT UP in the second half. And the owners are exploiting these young men by offering them a 10 year $120 million contract? Please. Because Revis could get seriously injured at any moment? So what. He knows the risks of the game. If he doesn't like it, he can go drive a UPS truck for a living. Noone is making him play. The owners have developed the greatest game ever invented. These players should feel fortunate that they get to play it. And get paid quite well. I hope Revis never gets his money, because the guy is acting like a tool. If Woody Johnson has any balls, he will give Revis a deadline and start taking money off of the table for every day that he does not sign. The NFL has been great for a lot longer than Darel Revis has been around.

why I am not so worried about LT situation
Paup 1995MVP replied to PJBrown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are missing the OP's main point. That regardless of how marginal our OT's are, Gailey will gameplan around this, and still will make this offense play to its strong points and be reasonably successful. Dick Jauron and his offensive coaches were as bad a coaching staff from an offensive view as the NFL has seen in a long time. They took good players and made them marginal, and took average players and made them poor. Gailey is a winner and understands how an offense works, and what needs to be done to succeed in the NFL with the talent that he is given. And BTW, where does everyone get the idea that Cornell Green is that bad. The guy has been in the NFL for what close to a dozen years? You do NOT last that long if you suck. I think he will be a reasonably decent acquisition for this year's team. -
Dude, This is a chat room dude. People say all sorts of things on here. She posted decently. But nothing to get all emotional about. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think a little bit of conflict is always good. If she didn't like it here, so be it. There are thousands of us who will still communicate on here. So to care even the slightest as to who is posting is putting WAY to much attention in your life to this board. It is about the TEAM, not who is posting my friend. Leave it at that. Remember this is not church. Civility and the internet do not always go hand in hand.

Spiller's status is a signal to the fans.
Paup 1995MVP replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If that is true, than CJ Spiller will never where a Bills uniform-mark my words. -
Spiller's status is a signal to the fans.
Paup 1995MVP replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why is that brainless? It was brainless drafting a player at a position that we are as deep at as any team in the NFL. We needed OLine help and we still do. I would feel very comfortable right now if we had a half decent Left tackle. Oak whatever your name is, keep bitching to me about how brainless my idea is if Spiller is not signed two weeks from now. -
Spiller's status is a signal to the fans.
Paup 1995MVP replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the ironic thing about the Spiller holdout is that after going to Bills training camp last Saturday, I came away with the impression that drafting Spiller was a BIG MISTAKE. The reason being is that we are LOADED at RB already. Have any of you watched Jacquie Bell practice? To me, he looks like a stud in the making. Marshawn looks powerful and motivated, and Freddie is already a stud back. Throw in McIntyre as a fullback/blocker/H-back, and Simpson as a scatback/kick returner and we are more than set at RB. I honestly think the Bills believe that as well after a week of training camp. Our secondary and RB corp are top notch. So my thinking is that the Bills are not wowing Spiller's agent with a tremendous deal. (Sure it is between 8 and 10, but probably nowhere close to #8"s deal. If Spiller is not signed by the beginning of next week, what about the possibility of trading his rights to someone who has a very good OT prospect they are willing to part with. A team in need of an electric RB. We are in desperate need of OT's. Looking at this team right now, it sure looks like we should have taken the top OT on the board when we were drafting at #9. Anthony Davis while maybe not an automatic sure thing would have solved a much pressing need (if we could have signed him). Buddy Nix is a toughguy. I think he is a pragmatist as well. (can't wait to hear what he says about Spiller if not signed this week) Would any of you be shocked if we tried to trade Spiller's rights if he is not signed shortly? Just some thoughts from a different bent on the subject. -
For those who have gone to the minicamps
Paup 1995MVP replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
MClem, I was at Saturday's practice at St. John Fisher. (and if anyone cares, I was the only one there wearing a Paup Jersey-funny thing about that is that the young fans have no idea who he even was) I tried to watch the QB's as best I could. But I will say that the whole thing is very spread out and it is hard to actually watch a lot of what is going on. That being said, NONE of our QB's is better than average out there. They all can throw the football decently, but none of them has anything special about them-plain and simple. The biggest worry we have is whether our OT's can play a lick. I think that Cornell Green will be fine at right tackle. But watching Meredith, Bell, and Wang at LT makes me scared. Meredith and Bell are quite frankly not very powerful men. And Wang is a rookie who looks physical, but is a step slow. But getting back to your original post, right now there is noone on the roster who will beat Trent out as the starting QB. But that could change once the preseason starts. -
One of our best defensive players not starting
Paup 1995MVP replied to thebillsbiz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What makes you or anyone think that Maybin is going to be starting? He hasn't shown anything whatsoever yet. If Battan, Ellis, Torbor, Kelsay, Schobel, or even Coleman play better, than Maybin is on the bench or maybe even gets cut. (That would be funny and pathetic at the same time) Remember Gailey said that the best players will play. I am going to believe that until I see otherwise. -
Who Will Surprise (in a GOOD way)
Paup 1995MVP replied to nostyle126's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Corner is terrible. He is small, and doesn't have the quickness to play in the NFL. I think he gets cut. I agree with you on Wood and Johnson. -
Dude, I can not stand reading your posts. You write in a style and tone that is really difficult to read. Do you not have a life that you have to respond a dozen times to what someone else says?? And for god sakes get over Jason Campbell. He sucks. Have you watched him play over the years? He brings nothing to the table. He was horrible in the Bill-Redskins game at Fedex Field in 2007. And is Troy Smith even on an NFL roster? You are grasping at straws. If we get any kind of decent O line play, whoever starts for us will be good enough to get the job done. If you are going to bore us with your babble in the future, try and discuss something marginally original.

Where do you live now and time spent in Buffalo area?
Paup 1995MVP replied to David D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Go Spartans. I was class of 83. When I was back in Buffalo this past spring, went by the old school and it still looks the same as it did 30 years ago! Ugly than and ugly still!! Born in Detroit 1965 Moved to Buffalo 1976 (mother still lives there) Univ of Michigan 87 Lived in Atl ever since. As a sports town can NOT compare to Buffalo. But with the Sunday Ticket I NEVER miss a Bills game. And I do get to see the Sabres twice every season. As for Bills games, went to the Music City miracle and the playoff loss in Miami when Flutie was sacked on the 5 yrd line. Anyone else on here been to both of those games? -
Jets may not have a happy camper in their midst, Revis
Paup 1995MVP replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C. Biscuit-are you really an executive with the players union? Sure players deserved to get paid. But they should feel fortunate to be playing a game and getting paid for it. You don't think the Jets will survive without Daryl Revis? He is good, but did you see him get toasted over and over in the AFC Championship game by numerous Colt receivers? There are hundreds of guys that can line up and play DB. A lot of these players have such inflated worth it is ridiculous. There are thousands and thousands of guys who would love to play this great game for much less money than what any of these prima donas make. Football is the utmost team game. And other than a very few special QB's (Brees, Manning, Brady) everyone is replacable. And that is what makes this game so beautiful. I would love to see the Jets just say to Revis. You will not be paid #1 DB money in the league. You don't like it, go sit at home. -
I like that Brohm is showing some confidence that he can get the job done. But it still remains to be seen if he or any of this very questionable lot can get it done. I think practice is important. But what will really matters is what happens in the preseason games. With this QB competition, the preseason games may actually be worth watching intently for a change. Whoever can move the team the best, and lead this team to points should be our starter. I don't care which of the three it is. I just want points and wins. Hopefully, Gailey will get the best out of all three. I am excited!!

Jonathan Scott To Start For Steelers
Paup 1995MVP replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jonathan Scott has absolutely no skill whatsoever to play any O line position at the NFL level. His play in the game at Miami last season was some of the WORST O line play I have ever seen at any level. His technique and footwork are just atrocious. I am not an O line coach, but my son plays a wicked right guard for one of the best coached middle school teams you will ever see down here in Georgia. If he or any of his teammates played with such poor technique and fire, they would never see the field. (I find it mind blowing that any pro football team would look at this guy) I tell my son with some of the garbage masquerading as NFL talent that is playing O line currently in the NFL, if you are big enough and can get thru college not getting severely injured, you will definitely get a shot at playing O line in the NFL. And Jonathan Scott is definitely at the top of any list of garbage O lineman in the NFL. -
Why are some of you so Pessimistic?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think I am one of the more cautiously optimistic fans on this board. I like the moves we have made in the offseason. But we still have big question marks at QB and O line. This is where I think our new head coach will put a much better scheme together that will give the players we do have a much better chance of succeeding. (I think many of us fans have forgotten or failed to realize how very bad our offensive game planning, coaching and teaching was under Dick Jauron) If nothing else there should be much more cohesion, purpose and direction under Gailey. This guy has always been a winner, and will get whatever talent we do have to play up to its potential. Barring a severe rash of injuries as we have had in years past, I see us competing for a wild card spot late into the season. A big test for this team will be week 2 in Green Bay. For the opener, we will be obviously jacked playing our hated rivals at home. They do not have much offense, so a strong defensive performance with a solid conservative gameplan that minimizes mistakes should get us a victory. But the following week going on the road against a VERY good offensive team, we will need the offense to play lights out to have a chance. In past years, this was the kind of game we absolutely got smoked in. Jauron never had the team in any frame of mind to compete against a juggernaut offense. (We never had the mentality to compete matching point for point) The weather will still be good in Wisconsin in September, so I will be very interested to see the scheme we come up with that gives us a chance to win. That is always the mark of any good coach, giving your team a chance to win. I hope Gailey is that guy, because Jauron and his predecessors certainly were not. -
One of the best games of the modern era by far. Coryell always looked so stressed and tense on the sidelines. But he was a tremendous coach, and increased the entertainment value of the NFL exponentially with his downfield passing genius.
