So far Chan Gailey looks like he has no clue how to prepare a team to win any NFL game. If this team continues to get blown out on a regular basis, and shows no progress, Gailey and Nix are GONE!! How do you keep a coach who can't win at the NFL level? And lets not forget that this team was put together by Chan and Nix. They chose to keep the same QB's and do nothing to improve the O line. Do any of you have confidence that Nix has even the slightest clue how to build a team, after drafting a RB with the ninth pick? We brought in ZERO talented players in the offseason thru free agency (Yea some of you like Dwan Edwards-please he is marginal at best) And zero draft picks are making real contributions. If we keep losing, Gailey will have lost the team by week nine. Guaranteed. What credibility does he have with any of the players? He is no Shanahan. He hasn't coached in the NFL since the 90's. There is a reason for that. For all of you who think that Gailey and Nix will stay for awhile if they continue to lose. NO WAY. Watch the other NFL games. We are so ill prepared to compete compared to most it is incredible. No team in the league has more breakdowns on the O line every single week-not even close. And our D is by far the worst in the league. Someone is responsible. Sure Gailey does not have a lot to work with. But someone has to get the most out of these guys. David Nelson makes a few excellent plays at end of first half on TD drive. He than does not come into the game in the second half until the middle of the 4th qtr. Why was he on the bench? Lee should have been benched in the second half-simple as that. This team is one of the WORST coached and WORST talented teams the NFL has seen in the past 15 years.

Just about all of you are missing the point here. There should have been absolutely NO reason to trade Marshawn because we should not have drafted Spiller. We did not need Spiller. Marshawn is an excellent RB. When he gets carries and decent blocking, he is very very good. And all of you who say he is about to be suspended for a year-what are you talking about? Lots of NFL players get in trouble at one time or another. What makes you think that he is going to get in serious trouble. (Just like Anthony Hargrove who is having a great career in New Orleans) Were any of you at the game on Sunday? The O line was HORRIBLE. They are pretty bad on most days. Give Lynch a good O line and he will run for 1,500 yards. Buddy Nix should have been fired for drafting Spiller. This team has absolutely no plan whatsoever. We are the laughing stock of the league. It was NOT Marshawn's fault. Most players do not shine in Buffalo. The best is not brought out in any of them. This trade had to be made because of the total ineptness of Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey. They forced this move from the moment they drafted Spiller. We were completely outmanned in both of our homegames from the opening kickoff by the Fish and Jets. Was management looking at the toughness of the teams in our division when they started to build this team? Obviously not. We are so lacking in toughness it is pathetic. The first to go should have been Lee Evans. No receiver fights less for the football than this guy. And it goes from there. (no physically less imposing defense in the league) Lynch is one tough hombre. But all good players eventually leave Buffalo for a better place.

It is really painful to watch Stroud at this point in his career. He was decent two years ago, but looks weak at this point. He gets pushed around more than any big D lineman. He just doesn't have the strength to compete any longer. I am all for Carrington getting some of his reps at this point. On a team that has such weak starters on its front seven, there is absolutely no reason that a big third round lineman with some athleticsm should not be in the regular rotation. It is not like he has Julius Peppers in front of him. The evaluation of talent, and the using of that talent, is the biggest downfall of our organization. Many of the wrong guys are drafted, traded for, or brought in as free agents. And the ones that are decent either sit on the bench, are inactive, or are put in positions they have no business playing. So pathetic it is sometimes laughable.

Say what you want about this new leadership
Paup 1995MVP replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Buddy Nix has been a complete joke so far. We are not better at any position on this team since he took over. And our defense is downright putrid right now. -
I must admit after watching our defense yesterday, Kawika would be an upgrade. My god our LB's SUCK. Do they ever make a play? We could not contain the edge or the middle yesterday. Torbor, Davis, Ellison, Ellis, Kelsay, Maybin, they all suck. They have no power to dominate. It is as simple as that. And for the love of God, why is Brian Scott playing up in the box so much? He is just filler-he is wayyyy to small to play the role that we always have him in every single year. At least Poz has SOME skill. He can't move laterally, but he has SOME ability. BTW, I feel like crying when I see our linebackers are Ellison and Scott and the ends rushing are Ellis, Kelsay and Maybin. They just give you NOTHING. Kawika could at least rush the passer from a blitz position and occasionally get thru.
-
And why does that matter if it shortens player's careers? There will just be other players to take their place. There are a whole lot of Buffalo Bills who I wish had their careers shortened a whole lot who are on this team today. Are you a frikin ex player or what? You always side with the players on everything like you are one of them or something. We are fans, the more games the better as far as I am concerned. This is a business. The owners OWN the teams. They have given us fans this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a violent brutal game that is incredibly entertaining. Thank the owners you tool for being given the opportunity to be an NFL fan.
-
Fitzy gives us a chance to win every game we play. He can move around reasonably well, and always throws to the correct receiver. His problem is he throws high sometimes as we saw on the pick in the endzone. But the guy is a leader and a gamer, and keeps our team from being embarrasing, and instead actually entertaining. As for the defense. Our front seven is the WORST in football by far. And our safeties are right there. I agree that not one of our front seven would start for most teams. Stroud is blown back continuously. He plays with absolutely no leverage whatsoever. He is through. The linebackers have no athleticsm or range whatsoever. This is the worst D we have fielded in many years. The 3rd and 6 at the end of the game. This is a gimmie by the Pats to just run clock. No misdirection. Just off tackle to the right side. Johnson, Torbor and Davis were just demolished. And they just got the first down. Game over. We look physically WEAK on Defense. Just not strong. Maybin has gone 19 games without a sack. I don't think he could beat many OT's in decent D-1 programs to be honest. On one play he tried to bullrush Matt Light and it looked like he hit a brick wall. Never seen a guy with his build play in the NFL. He is kind of built like TO. Very cut, but no strength to be playing with the men near the line of scrimmage. And does anyone else think that Keith Ellison may be the least physical and nonathletic player in the NFL?
-
Nix and Gailey have given me absolutely no confidence that they have any clue in evaluating talent on this team and around the league. They have brought in NOONE to upgrade the roster at any position. We say we want to build thru the draft but not ONE player from this years draft is even contributing yet. That is not acceptable when you refuse to bring in any above average players in free agency. I am absolutely astounded by how inadequate our roster is from top to bottom other than our Punter and Kicker. The rest of it makes no sense. Would any other team in the NFL play Chris Kelsay at outside linebacker, and more specifically have him cover a speed tight end down the field? And would any other team draft a RB number 9 when we already have two very good ones? Not even Al Davis would do that. At least by benching Trent, it should give some of our offensive players a chance to show how they can play. Because with Trent playing, nothing was going to click. (And btw, why is Trent still on the roster?)
-
Cash, you are right on the money. I watched the Pats-Jets, Colts-Giants, and Saints-49ers games this weekend after the Bills game. (Have to record them because after a Bills loss I have to get away from the TV and go outside for awhile) But the thing I noticed about these teams except for the Giants was how many playmakers in the defensive front seven that everyone has. (I think the Giants D is living off of 2007, and Umenyora, Tuck, Kawanuka, and others are all dreadfully overrated and not worth a flip) But the other teams all had playmakers at just about every position on their front seven. We have none of that talent. No gamechangers whatsoever. I am sorry but bringing in guys like Andra Davis, Reggie Torbor and Dwan Edwards are complementary pieces and not game changers. Stroud is so past his prime, Williams would not start for any of the aforementioned teams except in a rotation on the Giants. Edwards the same. Troup, McCargo, Carrington, Spencer Johnson...Please Maybe Troup and Carrington can become something. But our vets are all marginal at best in today's NFL. Anyone who says otherwise is not watching the rest of the league. NONE of our LB's would start for a lot of teams and that includes POZ. As for offense, our O line is marginal at best. Bell, Merideth and Green should not be on an NFL roster. Our interior guys have potential, but are very inconsistent. (Levitre seems to get beat quite often for a guy everyone raves about) And we have no depth. And what about our skill players? Way to heavily loaded towards RB. We have NO gamechanging receivers. And that includes Lee my friends. I don't think he would be a #2 on a lot of teams. Completely non physical for an NFL receiver. We have NO Tight Ends. QB-all I can say is that this is Fitzie's chance to make a name for himself as a legitimate starter. I am a fan of his unlike most on here, but my fingers are crossed. But I like the way he plays the game. My point is that Nix came in and made no legitimate moves to make this team good. He has done next to nothing. I think a lot of us on this board could have done a whole lot more if we could study the same film our GM and staff has looked at. It is like they purposely are not trying to move the team forward. Very very strange. Who takes a RB with the first pick when you already have two very good ones on your roster and there are tremendous needs at every other position than DB. We have awful LB's. And instead of finding some quality there, we bring in two guys from S Dakota State and James Madison and change their position. WTF is that?? And playing Kelsay at OLB when he has played DE his whole life is ridiculous. We are an embarrasment the way we have thrown this team together. Not ONE above average player at any position other than DB and RB. That is why we SUCK!! Nix should be ASHAMED!! I apologize for my controlled rant.
-
Your analysis of the situation was excellent. You are one of the few people on this message board who have a strong feel for the game of football. But DON'T overlook what Fitzie brings to the table. The guy has a tremendous amount of moxie. I think that Gailey will be able to open up the playbook a whole lot more with him at QB because he understands what is happening on the field. Watch the Bills-Colts game in the snowstorm last year. Sure the Colts did not have a lot to play for, but Fitzie was right on with most of his passes. He understands how the parts of an offense work together. And if his accuracy is decent (a big if I know) we will have a chance to move the ball, pressure the opposing defense in every game. Also, Trent can not throw any of the vertical routes up the seam. He was always too scared to throw it. (ie-the horrible decision to throw to Stevie instead of Parrish on the 3rd and 6 late in the first half at GB) This is the bread and butter plays of most offenses-stretching the field vertically. Fitzie can do this. If the O line can man up in the slightest, this will be Fitzie's team by the bye week. Because I think starting against NE you will see a completely different attitude amongst everyone on the team-O,D, and coaching staff knowing that we are not hamstrung by Edwards inability to function on the field. You know that the entire team saw that the past two weeks, and wanted this change.

That 4th - 11 scamper out of bounds to end the game
Paup 1995MVP replied to NYCBoozers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have got to be kidding me. The guy is not a leader and has no guts or heart. His teammates don't play hard for him, because they know he is not their leader. Our line is not good, but it is not nearly as bad as it looks with Trent back there. He has no business being a starter, backup, or third stringer. He is AFRAID to throw the football down the field. A QB is supposed to make the players around him better-he makes everyone WORSE. Seriously, have you ever seen a QB that is more afraid to throw down the field than TE? I seriously think that we would not win ONE game if Trent continued to start. He is that bad, and has ZERO leadership ability. Don't embarrass yourself with such nonsensical rhetoric man. Fitzie will at least look competent against the Pats. You watch, all of a sudden our QB will have time to make plays. Maybe the O line isn't that bad? But if Cornell Green has another poor game or two, I think he will be shown the door next. -
Little doubt our O-Line is the NFL's worst now
Paup 1995MVP replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, I saw that also. Trent threw to Johnson who was completely covered 3 yards short of the first down. When Roscoe was wide open running DOWN the field to Steve's left. In fact I thought Roscoe could have gone the distance if the ball was thrown in front of him. Trent completely missed it. He is awful. Anyone who thinks he has any business starting in the NFL is not watching the games. I don't think we will win a game with him starting this season. It makes you wonder what Gailey is thinking if Trent is still playing. Unbelievable. -
You know I was all excited when we hired Nix, because he talks like a tough good ole boy from Alabama. And Alabama is football. Living in Georgia for half my life, you realize that Bama means football. But 8 and a half months into his regime. What for the love of god has this guy done to improve the team? The answer is absolutely nothing. There is absolutely no good reason in hell that Marshawn Lynch should EVER be the 3rd running back on any team. He is too good for that. The only reason we should have drafted Spiller is if we already had a trade set involving Marshawn. (obviously that never happened) The sad thing is that we would be on the same ground at RB if we had Bell, Simpson, and either Jackson, Spiller or Lynch as our stud #1. My point is that running backs are a dime a dozen. And with a decent line, just about anyone with a bit of skill will succeed. Look around the league, you can plug in just about anyone at RB with a decent line and you are set. Does anyone think that Adrian Foster for Houston (or whatever his name is) is anything special. But he ran for over 150 against Indy because his line was roadgrading the Colts. Nix has missed the boat. Running backs are an interchangeable part on any team and nothing more.
-
We had NO business drafting Spiller when we had two excellent RB's and can always find someone decent one off the street (J. Bell) If we absolutely hated Davis or Bulaga, we should have tried our hardest to trade down and draft one of them at a spot that was more in line with their supposed value. We still could have than taken Clausen in the 2nd round and probably Troup as well with the extra picks taken. I would have even taken Brandon Graham at 9 over Spiller. Nix was just being stupid. Clausen was easily worth the risk in the 2nd round. We have noone who can play OT or QB on the roster. (Although I think we will be much, thats right I said it, much better with Fitzie starting) Nix's draft made no sense. You don't just ignore your biggest needs. Simple as that Sandy.
-
Seriously Mike, Nix has done NOTHING to improve the team. We were horrible at OT and QB last year. And we brought NOONE in to improve the position whatsoever. That is ridiculous. And than we go ahead and draft a RB with the ninth pick when we already have two excellent running backs, one who was drafted 3 years ago as the 12th pick in the draft!! There was absolutely NO NEED to draft Spiller. Especially because by drafting him, a talent like Joique Bell will not see the field this year. We needed upgrades at EVERY position on the roster but RB, CB, P and K. We could have even used an upgrade at strong safety more than we needed another RB. Especially, when we did not bring anyone in thru free agency that can play a lick on the O line. So yes Nix has done an awful job so far. I think the proof was in how bad the offense looked on Sunday my friend.
-
Lindell has been excellent, but you do remember that he missed that very crucial 28 yarder against Pittsburg in that dreadful loss that kept us out of the playoffs in 2004? So at the time it was very fair to rip him. Since than he has definitely gotten better and better. Him and Morrman have been the best thing going on this team for many years.
-
Of course they will miss him. The guy is a monster. They have noone who will fill his shoes. The Jets will be lucky to finish 500 with that garbage of an offense they have.

Anyone notice that McGee was benched?
Paup 1995MVP replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McGee's best games were when he was playing as the nickel corner early in his career. I think he is too small to cover a lot of the top receivers on the outside, and tends to give too much cushion. I would be perfectly happy with him going back to nickel corner with Florence and McKelvin starting on the outside. I think it would probably prolong his career as well. One thing I do miss is him returning kickoffs. I have never seen anybody better than him other than when Dante Hall was in his prime. And if Hall was better, it was not by much-that is for sure. -
Tim, You hit the nail on the head man. (too bad you are from Ohio and not Michigan LOL) Seriously, how can you win when you have no talent in the front seven or at WR, TE, QB or OT? It is unbelievable. And seriously, what have Nix and Gailey done in the offseason to upgrade the talent? Not a whole lot. We may see how really bad this team is if we go into the Jax game 0-4 with three very bad losses potentially coming up. Gailey and Nix should be absolutely ashamed with the lack of talent at a majority of our positions.
-
I watched today's game, and I felt absolutely no hope in the offense. We have no QB and our O line is pretty poor. And lets face it while we have a strong secondary, our front seven is pretty marginal as well especially in the pass rush. There is just no constant crashing of the pocket by our D line. NOONE dominates. And Ms. Posluzny is hurt again (big shocker there). It is amazing that another offseason comes and goes, and we are still lacking dramatically in talented players. We still pretty much suck. I saw absolutely no difference in this team and any of the teams coached by Jauron. And that is sad. What did they see in TE that would make them want to keep him? He plays scared on every down!! This looks like a 2-3 win team. Because most of the teams we play will throw the ball a whole lot better than the Dolphins will. With no pass rush, it could get very ugly.
-
I totally agree. Our Offensive Tackles are just awful. Bell and Merideth have no strength whatsoever, and Green just can not move laterally. I think it was terribly misguided by our organization (are you listening Buddy Nix) to think we could go into a season with this group of O tackles. Combine this with a very tentative QB and we have an offense that is a disaster. This team will have trouble winning more than 2-3 games with Edwards playing behind this O line. And lets not forget Levitre's brutal holding penalty that nullified a 30 yard pass play. He got bull rushed and had to hold to keep Ms. Trent from getting creamed. I agree that with this O line Fitzie needs to play. The offense was as bad as it has ever looked today. You really have to look at Buddy Nix and wander what he and Chan were thinking going into a season was such bad QB's and OT's. No team that is trying to be decent, not even a contender would go into a season with such horrible players as the ones we have playing at OT and QB. Just a joke.
-
Our receivers are fine. We need O lineman, linebackers and tight ends.
-
Why would anybody think that Fitz is on the bubble? He had a very strong game against Cinci. He is an excellent backup, who understands how to run an offense and make plays. I see no way the Brohm beats him out at this point.

Bills' Wang is out on the field
Paup 1995MVP replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Wang is healthy, is their a chance we cut Cornell Green, and just go with Bell, Merideth, Chambers and Wang? Just watched the Bills-Bengals last nite, and his pass protection was pretty shaky. Thought our second team O line looked strong opening holes for Anderson at end of game. Maybe Hennesey is a keeper as well? Thoughts? -
This is a great question. And what makes this so intriguing is that all these guys look like they can play, except for Hardy. But you have to love the guys size. But he just doesn't look like he plays the game with much passion and energy. He makes a nice catch and than dropped two. I like Roosevelt and Jones a lot as well. Jones is very physical and Naaman looks like he has a good feel for getting open. I believe that Nelson has more upside than Johnson. But both guys can play. Nelson has more size though. I think this last preseason game will determine a lot about which receivers make the team, and who doesn't. Regardless, all of these guys can play, and the way Gailey sets things up, I believe we will see a lot of offense this season. On our first TD against Cinci, we had Lee in motion coming from rt. to left moving into the slot. He took two defenders down the field with him leaving Roscoe to cross underneath beating #57 easily for Cinci. Previously, we never had Lee in motion, or anyone for that matter. This years offense is going to be fun.
