  1. [content deleted] If you wanna insult elected officials dealing with a raging epidemic in their state or dismiss segments of the media: Somewhere Else, Not Here. The mods who are around right now lack time to baby sit and many of us are cranky. If we have to baby-sit a thread, it's Locksville.
  2. Phillips' enthusiasm was certainly contagious. I loved his passion and energy. But for a big man he was not stout against the run. He got pushed back quite a bit. (see Eagles, 1st Miami game, 2nd NE game) He had a good season from a sack perspective. But the Bills brass obviously did not see him as a $10 mill type of player. Good player to have on your team. But everyone doesn't get the big bucks. Panthers did not keep Butler and Addison. And the Seahawks did not keep Jefferson. GM's always are looking for that right mix of guys combining salary skill set and team culture. Fascinating when you think about how you try to build a championship team. I think Beane gets it pretty darn well.
  3. With Tyrod at QB in the playoff game against Jacksonville we crossed midfield one time. And scored 3 pts. Enuf said about him being a good QB. He is fun to watch scramble. But overall has a very low ceiling. Take away the bootleg and throwing to the TE dragging late across the short middle of the field and what does he have left?
  4. I was at the Bills Pats game in 1981-was a Junior in HS. Tremendous ending. Crowd was going nuts as were me and my brother. Oh the memories. That is what its all about when all is said and done. Go Bills!!
  5. I didn't hate him as much as you. But he was lousy the second half of the year. Had nothing left in the tank. What bothered me was not playing Yeldon. Guy has some game. And should have been allowed to contribute. Play your best players every week. Felt the same about Lee Smith playing over Tommy Sweeney. Not sure McDermott can evaluate offensive talent very well. That needs to get a whole lot better. Dimarco Gore and L Smith are not NFL caliber players at this point in their careers. And were a complete waste of a roster spot.
  6. Great signing....if can stay healthy. Our top 4 boundary corners if we were to keep Wallace White Gaines and Norman are as good as if not better then any teams' in the league. Throw in Taron Johnson and Siran Neal and its a hell of a group of corners. Also that is one less need in the draft. I would hope we go WR RB OT and DE (not necessarily in that order) with our top 4 picks. In fact, I would be fine with taking our 7 picks and packaging some of them to trade up in a given round if we saw someone dropping who really like at one of those positions. If we can get another potential stud at WR and RB in the draft. (And a solid prospect OT and DE) I am fine with only drafting 4 guys. And if we happen to have our 7th round pick when the dust settles draft the best kicker available (I doubt Blankenship from Georgia lasts to the 7th though-but he did miss a short kick that cost the Dawgs the South Carolina game last year)
  7. Ownership will always have the final say on a trade of this magnitude. But maybe the Texans don't love Desean Watson as much as a lot of you posters do. I think he is a talent, but the Bills absolutely wrecked him in both games we played them under McDermott. One terrible missed tackle in OT and lousy offense cost us more then anything in the playoff game. But it would be interesting to see what kind of a trade offer New England or any other team would offer the Texans for Watson. (Makes the offseason a whole lot more interesting) And for you older posters how about when Commissioner Bowie Kuhn would not allow Oakland A's owner Charlie Finley to sell off his great players from the 1970's Oakland A's because he was short on cash? That was something. He invoked his power for the "best interests of the game". And those A's teams who I believe won 3 staight world series from 72-74 were as talented a baseball team as any I can remember that excelled for more then one year, that I can remember. Awesome uniforms, mustaches and talent. Anyone know their entire starting lineup including their starting pitchers and relievers? I was in elementary school then. And I remember most of them.
  8. Why all the love for Cam Newton on this board?? At this point in his career he is no better then Andy Dalton (at best) with a much worse attitude. When he refused to dive for the loose ball after he fumbled in the Super Bowl, he lost me and I bet a lot of his teammates. In fact I would much rather have Jameis Winston over Cam. Plays with more passion and has more upside. Cam has always been about Cam first and foremost. Noone is just going to give him a starting gig at this point. He is going to have to earn it. Is he any better then Fitzie at this point in their careers? Seriously. But it will be exciting to see a name guy trying to get back on top. Like Brady in TB, Rivers in Indy, Foles in Chicago and Bridgewater in Carolina. As for Tyrod in LA....not so much.
  9. He doesn't want to play for Gase. Does anybody blame him? Does anyone want to play for that clown? Wow, what were the Jets thinking hiring a coach from a division rival that was fired for doing a lousy job? There had to be a whole lot better to hire from the NFL and College coaching ranks. Glad their management is a joke!
  10. I live in the Atl area. Have lived here since getting out of college in 1987. However, I have not missed a Bills game since the meaningless season finale in 1994. Hale to the NFL Sunday Ticket. Since Atlanta is such a transient city, there are fans here for every team in the NFL. That is pretty cool. (And of course many Bills fans!!) And to be honest the Southeast and Atlanta Metro is a much bigger college football area then NFL. A college football Saturday in the deep South is something to be hold.
  11. Wow most of you are just so cynical and brutal with your responses. The original poster has a legitimate question. We are not the Patriots Saints Steelers Chargers, Rams etc. Meaning we have not been one of the elite teams in the league since the late 90's. Any mojo we can get to start the season with seems like a positive to me. We have upgraded the talent considerably on the offensive side of the ball. However, these players need to mesh with each other, the coaches, and especially Josh Allen. And as far as the defense is concerned, sure we are an experienced group having played together. But we were far from dominant, especially against the run in many games. So I believe a good showing in the preseason is most important to getting the team in the right frame of mind to attack the first month of the season. Especially after the garbage effort we put forth in the Baltimore, LA Charger and Green Bay games last year.
  12. Terrence McGhee should be given consideration. Was the best kick returner in team history. And one of the best all time in the NFL. Was also a very good CB. And played and acted like a leader and a champion.
  13. Disagree with the premise of your topic because if we lose to the Saints we fall to 5-4 with no momentum going on the road for two tough games. We very likely come back from that 5-6 and the season is in a free fall. We beat the Saints (which will take a great effort in all phases of the game) and go on the road with a good deal of confidence at 6-3, anything is possible. I think we match up well against the Saints on a cold rainy day type of game. Similar to the Packers game in 2014 when we stuffed Rodgers. I will then be real interested to see what the coaching staff does differently going on the road after the garbage performances in Carolina, Cinci and New York. Having Benjamin and Clay should help make the offense more aggressive. I think McDermott has coached scared on the road. Didn't we punt on 4th and 2 or 3 inside the Jets 45 early in the game? I thought that was a weak ass call on his part. Realistically knowing how the team played against the Jets, we have to come back and take it to the Saints from the opening kickoff. Make them not want to be out in the cold. Looking at who we have beaten this year, our 5-3 record is nothing special. A mediocre Jets team, that then kicked our ass. A lousy Broncos team. A very ordinary Falcons team, a terrible Buccaneer team, and a very mediocre Raiders team. So I think this week will tell us all we need to know about the 2017 Buffalo Bills. A fiesty bunch that is not overly talented. But get Clay and Benjamin on the field, and things could look a lot better. But the O line.....Ugh! And anyone who doesn't think a strong QB makes a huge difference, watch the Rams and Eagles play.
  14. Too soon to call him a bust. But he does not play like a 1st round DE should play. Has no explosion off the ball, and is basically just a guy. Similar to Adolphus Washington. No explosion off the ball or causes any major disruptions for the other teams offense. Our D Line looks pretty poor at this point minus Dareus. Worthy Washington Thornton and Kyle are not striking fear in anyone. And neither are Shaq and Hughes. We are going to need to blitz the hell out of Brees this week, otherwise we are toast. Our Front 7 is old and slow, with no young studs pushing for playing time, unless you want to call Milano a stud. (he does look like he has some good potential) Alexander is on his last legs, and Preston is slow and can't cover anyone. Surprisingly Humber is our best LB right now. Poyer Hyde and T White have kept the defense afloat with some very good coaching, but as seen against the Jets that will only take you so far. The talent in the front 7 is awful. Will need a huge effort to slow down the Saints. But the weather will work to our favor.
  15. Only in Buffalo is anyone making a big deal about who our starting rt guard is. That is not going to make a bit of difference. Our QB can not thrown the football down the field. Simple as that. He is lousy. His accuracy is questionable and he can't read a defense. Get Peterman ready for our next game. Give him a chance. McDermott's schemes are good. You won't get more out of this marginal roster (LB's are average at best, no depth anywhere, and the offense is putrid) than what he has done so far. The man is the ultimate competitor. But we don't have the ammo to win with any scheme. Keep these schemes and get some talent on offense and at LB and this team will be tremendous.
  16. This Bills team reminds me some of the 2003 Panthers that played the Patriots in the most underrated Super Bowl ever. They came out of nowhere and went 13-3 that year w Jake Delhome at QB. (The cajun gunner) I love our defense. Everyone is playing well. Poyer and Hyde are perfect fits for this scheme. As are Gaines and White. Is there a better secondary right now then ours?
  17. Why can't Dawkins be as good as Glenn, if not better? The Bills overpaid Cordy Glenn. He is a good but not great offensive tackle. He is injured a lot. And does not dominate many D lineman. For whatever reason, he has been elevated to legendary status by the media and Bills fans for some unknown reason. Would you be seriously devasted if we were able to trade him for fair value? I am liking what Dion Dawkins is bringing to the table at left tackle. Now rt tackle is another story. Mills is pretty rough.
  18. I was at the game. As were a large contingent of Bills fans. The stadium is magnificent. This was only the 2nd regular season home game. People are walking around checking out the facilities still. It was pretty crowded once the game got started. Here is the deal with Atlanta as a sports town. (I have lived here for 30 years since getting out of college) The Falcons are very popular, however Atlanta is the meca of College Football in the South. The NFL is popular with all the transients who have moved here over the years. But the natives of the South LOVE College Football. It is the biggest thing going every weekend. Every team from the SEC is well represented. And many from the ACC (Ga Tech, FSU, Clemson) as well. I was at a bar in buckhead right near my townhouse Saturday evening which is considered an Auburn bar on game day. It was packed for Auburn-Miss State. And there are hundreds of bars throughout the Metro area that are packed with fans of every team. If you love college football, it is the place to be. The Falcons are well liked. But the team has won a lot of late, and the fans have gotten comfortable a bit with the team. Buff-Atl is not much of a rivalry, like Atlanta v Carolina or New Orleans. Most of the Falcons fans were happy to be in their new plush stadium. The victory meant way more to the Bills fans then the loss did to the Falcons fans.
  19. We can draft Maurice Hurst #73 from Michigan to replace him. The Wolverines D this year is lights out. As for Marcel, sure someone will pick him up but he will be the same player wherever he ends up. He is always out of shape and plays soft. Not worth big money anywhere he goes.
  20. I agree Redneck 1. The offense was dreadful yesterday. Tyrod can not read defenses, is scared to let it rip, and has poor accuracy. He can scramble, but does not combine that with being able to read defenses and see the entire field. The reason he has so few turnovers is because he is afraid to throw the football unless a receiver is less then 10 yards away, or wide open down the field. Unfortunately, in the NFL receivers are not usually wide open. He hesitates on almost every dropback which allows the pressure to close in, even when the protection is decent. He is not an NFL starting QB. We all know that. McDermott should know that by now. Our upcoming schedule is Denver, at Atlanta, at Cinci, bye, home against Oakland and Tampa. Good god, maybe a win against Cinci. But we very well can be staring at a 2-5 start. Even with as good a defense as we have shown, we will not keep all 5 of those teams in check. Not going to happen. We need to get the offense going quickly. I would go w Peterman this week also. Hard to justify to the rest of the team sticking w Tyrod when he has won nothing in Buffalo since he has been here. Shouldn't starting be performance based?
  21. That pretty much somes it up. Tyrod is afraid to pull the trigger, and everybody knows it on both teams. Hard to have an aggressive game plan when your QB is not accurate and afraid. We should have put Peterman in at halftime. He is not aftaid to let it rip. Our receivers are not playing all out w Tyrod at QB because they know he will not hit them in stride (probably won't throw to them at all) so everything is amped down. The offense had the energy rhythm and tempo of a preseason game. That is on the coaches and Tyrod. We have absolutely nothing to lose by starting Peterman next week. Need to see what he's got. Tyrod is not getting better. He is just not an NFL QB. Time to move on. Peterman will elevate the level of everyone's play. Lets do it. And btw the last pass incompletion is not on Jones. He got open. The ball was to the wrong side and too far. Tyrod missed him.
  22. Kyle Williams had a tremendous game. No comparison between him and Dareus today. 12th year and he was running all over the field like he was 25 years old. If he can stay healthy he can play another 2-3 years. Definitely the leader of the defense. As for Dareus he is out of shape and just a guy. (saw him sucking oxygen on the sidelines) Could easily see this being his last year w the Bills, if the light does not go on. He plays w absolutely no passion.
  23. You usually have more astute opinions then this Kelly. What does Peterman need to be "ready" to start an NFL game? Tyrod was terrible before the concussion this preseason. He does not throw in rhythm with his receivers. Did you not watch Peterman in the preseason? Looks pretty poised for a rookie regardless of what round he was drafted in. He easily outplayed Taylor in the preseason. Why shouldn't he get the start then?
  24. I think he can be our starter. Tyrod looks terrible. Trade or cut him. Go with Peterman as the starter, and Yates or Wenning (depending how he plays tom nite) as the back up. I think he will give us the best chance to win. Too painful and frustrating watching TT throw passes that are not catchable.
