Peter King Mock- Bills take Etienne
Paup 1995MVP replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hunter has been good. I think I just get a little bitter because my son plays DE at Georgia Southern and is only 6'2. He is strong and can move well, but doesn't have the great length. If he has a really good senior season he should get a shot in the NFL. But that's how it goes. I think he projects more as an 3-4 OLB at the next level. But once you show you can play at the NFL level it doesn't matter where you come from or what round if any you are drafted. -

That you were able to figure that out is impressive. But there were lots of other games that he was not nearly full speed. When healthy he is still an upper echelon receiver. The problem is his legs are like a porcelin China doll. -
Which defensive scheme would you prefer?

Way to find that link!! Thats a LONG time ago. And we lost Keion Carpenter and Sam Rogers that game. (said it right there in the article) And I agree about Tony Dungy. Never been a big fan. -
Ty Dunne: Motor can lift Bills to super bowl
Paup 1995MVP replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure guys can get better. Most players are not stars their first year in the league. But if you watch enuf football you can tell who is a top end player and who isn't. Its not that difficult to gauge. Singletary is not a top end RB. He doesn't have the physical characteristics to be that type of player. Even Willis McGhahee coming off his horrible knee injury (while not an all timer that many thought he would be before the injury against Ohio State) still had some of those dominating traits that the great ones have. Bottom line is we need to get better to beat the Chiefs Packers Bucs and anyone else in the AFC who has improved. We need guys who can come in and make us better and more difficult to play against. Someone on the level of AJ Epenesa is probably not that guy. If Etienne or N Harris are that guy then by all means draft him and move on from Singletary, who after watching his body of work over the past two years seems a bit over drafted as a 3rd rounder. -

If we are going DE, we need to trade up a bit if Kwity Paye starts falling and get him. The other guys aren't likely to do much for us this year. Guys like Oweh do nothing in the NFL. Heck he did nothing in the Big 10 at Penn State. Everyone wants these long lanky guys to play DE and rush the passer. As big as most Olineman are, you need some strength and bulk to get to the QB. Dwight Freeney was one of the best DE's of all time rushing the passer, and he wasn't even 6 feet. Get Paye or a good CB in the 1st round if we don't have to give up too much to move up. Otherwise all day on Etienne or Najee!! -

Until he pulls a hammy or sprains his foot for the umpteenth time in training camp. An all time great player........when healthy!! -
Former Bear Steve McMichael has ALS ( Lou Gehrig disease)
Paup 1995MVP replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is very sad news. McMichael was a tough hard nosed very good player. And quite the character on NFL films type stuff. That Bears team was something. Don't think too many of them would have been a good fit w McDermott. But that was a very different era of football and life. God bless him and his family!! -
Athletic article on JP Losman
Paup 1995MVP replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That game down in Houston in 2005 or 2006 was epic. He had his moments. But the Oline was always trash in front of him. The organization was just a mess back then. Hard to believe Kelly Holcomb was starting in front of JP at some point. I think it was 2006 Christmas Eve we played the Titans with Vince Young at QB. My lasting memory was him scrambling for like a 40+ yard TD before halftime as Chris Kelsay was left in the dust. That pretty much summed up that entire decade of futility. Our current team and organization is so much better now. I did not think we would ever be this good again. I feel truly blessed to have been a huge fan back in the Super Bowl years and to have another go round decades later with another championship caliber team. How frikin great is that!! Go Bills. -
Orlando Brown traded to the Chiefs for 1st Rd Pick

That is why we could certainly use Najee Harris or Travis Etienne in our backfield. There is your elite talent. Drafting guys like Singletary Moss and Epenesa aint cutting it when it comes down to it. -
Best player for immediate upgrade to our starting lineup.

Wasn't it an achilles or a knee injury for Cowart down in Tampa on a wet rainy day that pretty much ended his career in 2000? I think we lost several guys on D in that game. That was too bad. Cowart was really good and had the potential to be a great player. I think losing that game pretty much sent our team spiraling downward and led to the start of the draught. I think the next week when we went to Indy Wade said we would not make the playoffs, and then we pretty much fell off a cliff. -
Potential Hint to Draft Priorities?
Paup 1995MVP replied to glazeduck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WR is somewhat of a need. But not a huge need right now. Beasley and Sanders may have 2-3 solid to very good years left in them. Davis is young. And Hodgins maybe a beast. And there are guys coming out every year now that are very good wideouts. The college game is so different then it was even 10-15 years ago. Teams (except for the Maize and Blue, Wisconsin and Iowa) love to throw the ball all over the place. So there are many more higher end WR's to choose from every year then say in the 80's and 90's. I think that Beane will have a hard time not picking Najee Harris or Travis Etienne if they are there when we pick at 30. -
The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
Paup 1995MVP replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Ya Digg that the game is much different today then it was 25-30 years ago. Holacek was a thumper. Old school hard nosed traditional LB. Rogers was good in what he did also. Were they super athletic? Not really. However, they were very good (not great) playing their positions in that era. I don't think that Edmunds is good at playing his position in this era. I know I am hard on him. But when you are playing in the middle of your defense, you need to be if not a special player, at least pretty dam good. London Fletcher was that guy when he roamed the middle for the Rams Bills and Redskins. Not a HOF but a dam good anchor for the defense. I want Edmunds to be approaching that level this year, in the way he plays and leads. I would not give him the 5th year option. However, if he plays lights out (a big question mark) we can potentially sign him long term after the season. I think Beaner agrees w me. (time will tell) -
Me too Yolo. Barmore was a one man wrecking crew against Ohio State. (Made me happy.. Hate the Bucs being a Michigan Man) Didn't really pay attention to him other then that. Because watching Alabama last year it was all about their offense. I would be happy going any position but O line and QB (which we obviously will not draft) with our first pick.

The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
Paup 1995MVP replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edmunds is nowhere near a $15 mill player. But Beane needs to decide whether Edmunds will make that jump this season to being that type of player in year 5. I hope he becomes that if the Bills pick up the 5th year option. But if I am the Bills I don't do it. If he were on the Bills of yesteryear, he would not have seen the field on the Super Bowl era teams. Or the teams of the late 90's when we had Sam Rogers, Sam Cowart John Holacek and Keith Newman. All had more game then Edmunds. I mean for you fans who remember the 90's era, is Edmunds even as good or better then say a Gabe Northern? -
It is a huge need. No way any team should be going into an NFL conference championship game w Levi Wallace as one of your two starting boundary CB's. His athletic ability to cover in what is now a very heavy passing league is simply not good enuf, and probably will never be. He can't play press man coverage because he doesn't have the fast twitchiness needed. We improve our starting CB2, we improve our defense considerably.

Schein - Nine Make-or-Break players for 2021 (Ed Oliver)
Paup 1995MVP replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dam straight its a team game. And everyone needs to play at a relatively high level in the NFL for their team to play well. Oliver has underperformed to a degree. He hasn't sucked. But he has shown little to make anyone think he should have been drafted w the 9th pick. As for Morse and Edmunds, one is getting paid big bucks to play like a top 5 Center. The other was drafted w the 16th pick and looks like he belongs on a basketball court. Again, yes its a team game. But you don't need to be an apologist and make excuses for guys who are not playing up to the level of their contracts or draft position. Not sure where the narrative came from that our Guards were lousy last year. Yes Winters was trash. But I thought Boetger and Feliciano were very solid. I think Morse was the weakest of the 3. He wasn't terrible. But for what we are paying him and how he played w the Chiefs, I believe we should expect more from him. As for Edmunds, don't get me started. My opinion of his play is well known on this board. -
Watson, Adams, Rudolph, Gladney
Paup 1995MVP replied to Bubba Gump's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post Rc2. If it wasn't for football most of these guys aren't going to college. That's just how it is. And the problem is that most of them are not smart enuf to realize the value of a free college education. The ones who do good for them. But along those lines, read the hype about college players in the draft articles. Every single one of them is absolutely diefied. They are all supposedly great prospects. Every pro workout is amazing. Every player should be a first round pick. The players are constantly fed how great they all are. Why is noone critical anymore? Give young people some reality. Just because they play college or pro ball, does not mean they are all great people or even very good football players. Set the bar higher of what's expected of people. Maybe things will change. But it starts at the top. And I will stop now, because any view that doesn't sit well w the mods on here will get you banned. There you go. From the voice of Paup. Over and out! -
Bills sign G Forrest Lamp
Paup 1995MVP replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully he is a lot better then Winters who I thought was garbage. Long showed some game but his contract was too rich to stay around too long. Resigning Darryl Williams and Feliciano, and now signing Lamp Douglas and Hart as veteran competition, I don't see the need to draft any O lineman. Lets go defense and possibly RB TE and WR in the draft. Beane loves his veteran O lineman. He is an awesome GM.
