Brick-By-Brick, the NFL Losing Me As A Fan
Paup 1995MVP replied to pocoboy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ball clearly moved when Smith hit the ground. In fact, it looked like the ball actually hit the ground. I thought it was a good call. The Sanders play is never ruled a catch. He got wacked as soon as the ball got there. No football move. I also thought the ball that was challenged that Goedart caught was not a catch either. That ball looked to be moving too. But I was biased for the Chiefs since I had a decent sized bet on them. LOL All in all a good Super Bowl to watch. But the Eagles defense had no answers in the second half. -
Exactly LGB. You summed it up perfectly. That era was when I became a fan. So hard nosed physical and violent. So many crazy characters. And so much raw energy and passion on the field every week. And Conrad Dobler was right in the middle of all that mayhem. But he sure could play. RIP with much respect!!

Apparently Vegas doesn't agree the Bills are done...
Paup 1995MVP replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ironically we defended the Chiefs better then anyone this year when we played them in KC. But without Von Miller we have no pass rushing to speak of. Its a vanilla defense with no top end guys except for Milano. Hopefully Hyde can come back and play at a high level. But he is over 30 so that is not guaranteed. We need to do some honest self evaluation and try and figure out what it will take to play at the level of the top teams. We were not that in the playoffs. Josh Allen is a great talent. But we need more then Diggs to complement him. And the coaching on both sides of the ball needs to be better. And that includes McDermott as well. Btw a great Super Bowl to end the season. Football is still the best sport in the world. Nothing comes close. Although NASCAR starts for real next Sunday. And I will enjoy it throughout the long offseason. -
Isn't that pretty much all fan bases? We love our team and think everyone else and their teams suck?!! As for ticket prices, absolutely ridiculous. Pretty bland matchup. Both teams have played well and deserved to be there. But Philly is as boring a team as it gets player wise. And everyone knows Mahomes and Kelce. But they don't really move the meter beyond being football players. The NFL is the ultimate team game. Its the best sport, with college football. But its not predicated on star power. I would argue Josh Allen is the biggest star in the game. Bam. I remember the Bills-Giants super bowl in 1991. Me and two buddies drove down from Atlanta to Tampa for the game. Paid $600 each for tickets. Seemed pretty expensive at the time. Called a ticket broker from an ad in USA Today. LOL. How things have changed.

Eagles olineman indicted on rape and kidnapping charges
Paup 1995MVP replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
You think Jason Kelce is doing that kind of nonsense? I highly doubt it. -
Oliver was a beast in college. But it is very difficult to play DT at his size in the NFL and be overly effective. (other than Aaron Donald and John Randle, I can't think of many guys his size) He doesn't suck but is not a consistently dominant presence on the field like we were hoping he would be. I think he has hit his ceiling. And its a solid but not great player. Is he really much better then a guy like Justin Zimmer? I don't think so. He certainly is not close to the level of Kyle Williams in his prime.

I agree Success about your complaints with our D scheme. We play our DB's in off man coverage almost always. We do not make it difficult and uncomfortable for opposing WR's to get off the ball and get open. This seems to make the mentality of our defense passive. Everyone of our players is not running around like a heat seeking missile looking for someone to destroy. The Cowboys-49ers game comes to mind. Both defenses were tearing it up and literally suffocating the opposing offenses. The final score was 19-12. With two TD's scored total. Every player on both defenses played physical. Who in our secondary is taking people out? I dare say we are soft and do not play defense with any measure of anger and rage. And I would argue that is from the passive approach taken by Frazier and McDermott. But the talent of our defense is nothing special. Other then Von Miller who is a difference maker on the D Line? We have none. Its that simple. Our secondary looked lousy and confused at the end of the year as well. Guys wide open all over the field. Is anyone in the secondary a stud at this point in their careers? I dare say no. Maybe Elam and Benford get there. But Tre looks slow. Poyer looks old and slow. Does Hyde come back next year? Dane Jackson is a liability. Taron Johnson was the best of the lot. And he is a better tackler then cover guy. Milano and Edmunds were the studs of the defense this year. Hands down. But Edmunds looked lost in the game against Cinci. And he will want a fortune to resign. He improved overall this year. But we can not afford to pay him big money. My point is the defense needs help. The offense also needs help. Something has to give.

Frank Reich named new Head Coach of Panthers
Paup 1995MVP replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
My thoughts exactly Turk. Reich was terrible the past two years with the Colts. -
Everybody's Feeling Stung right Now but please.....
Paup 1995MVP replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am not of the complete mindset that the entire coaching staff including McDermott needs to go. Because lets face it, McDermott is not getting fired this offseason. Just not going to happen. But your post is a little too optimistic. We did not move in the right direction this season. We were what turned out to be a paper tiger of a team. From the second half of the Green Bay game, things did not look right. Sure we won 8 games in a row. But we did not dominate anyone other than the night game in New England. And at Chicago. Two teams that had nothing on offense. Both Miami games were tight. And we were fortunate to beat the Lions, thanks to a tremendous throw from Josh to Diggs in the last few seconds. We just did not play like a top team plays. If you watch the NFL, you should know that. The 4 best teams are left to fight for the Super Bowl. Dallas is better then us also, but fall short because Dak Prescott is garbage. However, their defense is light years ahead of ours. The bottom line is this IMHO, to be the best you have to beat the best. What are we going to do this offseason to up the level of our team so that we can compete with the teams still playing for the Super Bowl. We have the QB. But we need a whole lot better around him. Can McDermott and Beane do that? We shall see this offseason. And if things continue down the road of not being good enough. Changes throughout the organization will have to be made. -
Bills-Dolphins most watched Wild Card game in 9 years
Paup 1995MVP replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon seems like a pretty prime spot to me for an NFL playoff game. Giants-Eagles is a big time matchup too between two big market teams. -
Lets hope he keeps improving. Some guys take a little longer to develop into top flite NFL players. Bruce Smith was not dominant his first few years I don't believe. And neither was Eric Moulds. And they both had stellar careers. Lets go Boogie.
-
Boogie did have some jump yesterday. Pass rush overall was decent. Not dominant but serviceable. We need to make Burrow uncomfortable. When he can't step up he is very average. Bengals looked very normal last nite, and but for the fumble by Hartley near the goal line had a good chance of losing to a pretty mediocre Ravens team. If the Bills offense is in gear, which I see no reason why they would not be, we have a real strong chance to win.. The Bengals receivers were nothing special last nite.

Josh Allen Bashers, what's your solution?
Paup 1995MVP replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly. Allen is a gunslinger. He lets it rip. If Shakir catches the deep ball in the 2nd qtr and Knox catches the TD that the refs ruled was trapped, the game would have been pretty much over. The TD passes to Knox and to Davis were perfect throws. As was the long ball to Diggs. With Josh at QB we always have a chance regardless of where we are on the field. -
Do you seriously think up this line of reasoning? I think the 90's Bills wanted to win every game they played. And if they had won one of the first two bowls, they would have been just as hungry for 2 and 3. Same for these Bills. Every year is a new season. These guys are professionals. They want to win every game they play. They were not going to fold this year regardless of what happened last year. If nothing else #17 and #14 were not going to let that happen. And neither would the coaches. You are paid to do a job. When you are on the field, you block out the rest. These aren't 12 year old girls. These are men. Tough football players who want to knock the crap out of their opponent every single week.

OLine/QB Unforced Error All 22- Week 18 Patriots
Paup 1995MVP replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's great analysis. Looking at your year end grades, we need help at LG and RT. I think O line needs to be a priority in the upcoming draft and free agency. I like Boettger. I think he can replace Saffold. And I don't think Brown is a starting caliber RT on a championship level team. And depth needs to be better as well. Quessenberry is trash. Hopefully Doyle can come back and be useful next year. He should be better then Q. -
Steelers radio debates signing Tremaine Edmunds
Paup 1995MVP replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
He has really turned up his game this season. And I admit I bashed him for a long time, (and rightfully so) But he has become a big time stud for us. After seeing what Roquan Smith just signed for w the Ravens, (and I think Edmunds is a better player) it will be hard to keep Edmunds. And don't forget about Poyer too. We need him just as much if not more then Edmunds. -
Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Paup 1995MVP replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
How many draft picks are you giving up for DeAndre Hopkins? And not enough balls to go around to satisfy both Diggs and Hopkins. Davis might as well not even dress if those two are playing. Don't forget about Shakir. He may have more upside then Gabe. Just saying. -
And they played the entire season with Andy Dalton as their starting QB, cementing Jamais Winston to the bench. I would fire my head coach and anyone in the organization who agreed with Dennis Allen's strategy. (I like Dennis Allen. Sounds like a cool old school kind of a tough guy type of coach when he speaks.) But my goodness you are not winning anything w Andy Dalton. At least Winston gives you big play potential. He is the black version of Fitzie. Boom or bust. 400 yards passing. 4 TD's. 4 picks. A fumble and a lot of excitement.

What if the Bills refuse to play the Patriots?
Paup 1995MVP replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
As a human race, we never stop. We always keep going forward. Everyone suffers hardship and loss in their lives over time. That is part of being a human being and living in the world. When you pass, people maybe upset and care that you are gone and miss you. But the world will keep going on and not miss a beat. It was a freak thing that happened to Damar Hamlin. Its upsetting sad and scary for all of us. But football is a violent game. The players all know that. They can be upset. But they still will need to focus on what they are paid quite well to do. And that is to block out the distraction and be a baller for 3 plus hours this Sunday. And keep doing that until they win the Super Bowl or are eliminated. -
Peterman starting for the bears this Sunday
Paup 1995MVP replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
They need a real NFL coach. One that knows offense. You need that to develop a young QB like Fields. He has some physical tools, but looks completely lost trying to read a defense or run an offense. Interesting that guys with a lot of physical tools like Fields get drafted so high, and yet have no idea how to play the QB position when coming in the league. I do like Kenny Pickett. He has moxie, a decent arm, and understands how to play QB. Pittsburgh did well drafting him, and George Pickens-who we should have drafted. -
Exactly. Ryan Clark on SportsCenter last nite said the same thing. Its all most of the players ever dreamed of doing with their lives. Most of these guys are not Andrew Luck. They are programmed to play football for as long as they possibly can. My son just finished his 6th year playing college ball. He said he played the most snaps of any d lineman in the country this season. Some games he played 80+ plays. He is a good solid player. He maybe a low round draft pick. Depending on how he does at his pro day. He suffered a bad knee injury at the start of the 2019 season. Came back from that in time for the 2020 season. He suffered a bad ankle injury his Junior year in High School and missed most of that season. But he came back to have a great senior high school season. Fortunately, he had a healthy final college season accept for the normal bumps and bruises you get playing all those plays near the line of scrimmage. He has his degree, and is a smart dude. But his goal is to play in the NFL. Its what he always has wanted to do, regardless of the risk. I hope he gets to live out his dream. It can make you nervous if you overthink it. So I don't.

Jeff Saturday Throws His O-Line Under a Bus
Paup 1995MVP replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nick Foles sucks. He shouldn't be playing in the NFL. That being said, way too much celebrating period in the NFL. Win something and then celebrate. Your job is to sack the QB. Act like you have been doing it all your life. LT, Reggie White and Bruce never celebrated. They just beat up QB's which was their job. The players today seem so juvenile. Its ridiculous. -
Stop with the underneath pass talk. Josh Allen has the best arm on the planet. We didn't draft him to throw 5 yard crosses. Let him keep rolling out and throw 30 yard darts. He is great at that. You want underneath passing, bring in Teddy Bridge to nowhere. We got the real deal in Josh Allen. And yes he does have that Favre dog in him. I loved it with Brett. And I love it with Josh!!

Daniel Jones receives standing ovation from Giants fans
Paup 1995MVP replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
McKenzie is not that bad. He can make plays when called upon in a limited capacity. Lets hope he steps up tonite and in the playoffs. As for not keeping Hodgins on the roster over Kumerow, I agree that was a terrible move. Hodgins has good hands, and looks to have some game. Not keeping Hodgins on the 53 man roster coming out of training camp was a head scratcher.
