Can we resign Edmunds and trade him straight up to the Titans for Henry? They just released a couple decent LB's. Maybe knucklehead Vrabel can throw in a 3rd or 4th back to us as well?

Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
Paup 1995MVP replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Watson looked lousy when he came back late last season. He should be better next season. But still QB's seem to still go to die in Cleveland. Baker was nothing special with them. And he was the first pick that year. He was overdrafted. But playing with Hue Jackson and then Freddy Kitchens as your head coach is tough. And Stefanski hasn't done a whole lot better. I dare say that the height of Cleveland Browns football in the modern era was their win over the Bills in the 1989 wild card game. A game for the ages. Maybe they should have never left Memorial Stadium even when they came back to the NFL in 1999. LOL. -
Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract

Lamar and Mark Andrews have a real good connection together. The 15 yard crossing route Andrews loves to run from right to left across the field to the sideline has worked wonders for them. But even with that, the Bills have owned Lamar in all 3 games they played against him. Even the one in Buffalo that we lost during the regular season. -
Leslie Frazier "taking a year off from coaching" per Bills PR
Paup 1995MVP replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
The whole team did not show up. But the defense was manhandled on the first two drives. That set the tempo. Cinci had receivers wide open all over the field. And they ran the ball at will up the middle. You could tell right away we were not ready to compete against the Bengals. That game and to a lesser degree, the Miami game the week before (even though we won) was a total failure by the organization. They need to own it, and do WHATEVER it takes to be a better overall team in all facets next season. There is nothing we can not improve on from our play in the 2022 season. It is not so much our record. Because we will have a very difficult schedule. But more are we just nasty to play against. And can we impose our will on our opponents on offense defense and special teams whenever we need to? And lets not leave out coaching. It has to be much better against the best teams, especially come playoff time. If McDermott and crew can not show that this season. Time for a change after 2023. -
That's a strong statement. Maybe true and maybe not. Tre looked stuck in mud late last year. Hopefully he can regain some his old form over the next 6 months. I think you want your best players always on the field. Assuming Poyer is not back, we have Hyde and then a mishmash left at the other safety position. If Benford is better then White at CB in 2023, then put Tre at safety if he has anything left and start Benford and Elam at boundary corner. And maybe Hamlin makes a great comeback and can be our 3rd safety. But we still need a replacement when Hyde is done. So we need another playmaker at safety either in free agency or the draft.

Lamar has had Mark Andrews. He is a beast that I would put in the top 5 TE's in the league. -

Ravens stadium was filled bro long before Lamar ever set foot there. He is overrated. And he quit on his team. Last I heard he was still getting paid during the 2022 season, even if it wasn't the offer that you feel he should get. The Ravens don't really want him at this point. But they need to pump him up to get maximum value in a trade for him. He isn't leading any team to the promised land. He was a curiosity. And now has been figured out. -
It’s not the draft execution so much as it’s the draft strategy
Paup 1995MVP replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good thoughts Alpha. You know your football. I did not know that Jerry Hughes had 9 sacks this past season. That's impressive for any team. But given how bad the Texans were record wise, that's even more impressive. Is he planning on playing another season with the Texans? Lets hope that the disaster that was the Bengals playoff game is the low point for this defense. And that changes to our defensive system are made. A more aggressive attacking defense is definitely needed. Don't need safeties lining up 20+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage on most plays, with corners 8-10 yards off WR's. Makes it too easy for the opposing offense. And the mindset is one of passivity. That can not be in professional football. -
A REPORTER THINKS Packers are "done with Rodgers"
Paup 1995MVP replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree that the Bills will have competition from the Jets and the Dolphins. And the Pats never seem to absolutely suck. But Derrick Carr comes up small in big games. I am not overly concerned. I do think Mike White has some upside, if he can stay healthy. But he is not a thick guy. Kind of reminds me of a Rob Johnson type build. And we know what happened to him. We need to bring our best next year. Hopefully the punch in the gut by the Bengals will wake the organization up a bit. Everyone needs to have that Stefan Diggs hunger and passion. Including the coaches and management. Just having Josh Allen is not enough to win championships. The Chiefs haven't won two Super Bowls just because of Patrick Mahomes. They have great coaching, an amazing TE. A great O line, and a lot of guys who play with a lot of passion. We need to find that. Lets go Buffalo. -
It’s not the draft execution so much as it’s the draft strategy
Paup 1995MVP replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall
There is nothing wrong with drafting defense. Every team wants and needs at least a decent defense. Our problem is a lot of the guys we are drafting or bringing in on defense are just not real good. Or we are not coaching them up. Or the system we are playing is not right for these players skill set. Epenesa and Basham have done next to nothing as 2nd round picks. Rousseau has been better, but certainly not dominating. Other then Von Miller, who is a real impact player on the D Line. Ed Oliver has not played like a top 10 pick. We had Hughes and Addison. They were pretty much done in 2021. Settle did nothing this year. DaQuan Jones was good for us. But certainly was not an absolute terror. Lawson and Phillips were solid, but not very good to great. At LB Milano is a stud. Edmonds was good this year. But still is not overly instinctual. And is not worth the money someone will pay him going forward. Who else have we brought in at LB? Bernard Dodsen Andre Smith Baylen Spector AJ Klein and Matekevich. Nothing overly special there. Although I think Spector may have some game, and Klein is a cagey veteran who plays smart. The strength of the D has been the secondary. But losing Hyde and Poyer being injured a bunch, and the Tre White knee injury certainly set the secondary and the D back. Hopefully the coaches will find a way to maximize the talent of Elam and Benford, and can get both on the field at the same time. For my money I would let Dane Jackson Jaquon Johnson and Dean Marlowe all walk. None of them should be playing in an NFL secondary. Overall, when you look at the defense, there is just not enough talent and athleticism. I think that falls on Beane. Combined with the scheme not matching up with the skills of the players on the roster. (One shout out goes to Taron Johnson. He gets the most out of his game every season and every game. But a guy his size should not be expected to make so many tackles.) The defense just seems like a big cluster. And once Von went down, teams figured us out. And guys were wide open all over the field in every game at the end of the season. A lot of work needs to be done to tighten things up on the defense. Lets hope Beane McDermott and staff are up to the challenge. -
A REPORTER THINKS Packers are "done with Rodgers"
Paup 1995MVP replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Carr is lousy. Terrible leader, and hasn't won anything. We went 14-4 last year. Why are we worried about the Jets? They need to be worried about us. We get the O line fixed and we will be in strong contention for the Super Bowl. Bringing in aging veteran QB's is usually not a recipe for success. Look at the Colts and the Broncos. Rodgers is a cancer. Sure he has put up great numbers in his career. But he has been to how many Super Bowls since becoming the starter in 2008? ONE!! I would bet that most of the Packers are ready for Jordan Love to take over. -
OT…Daniel Jones about to be a very very rich man
Paup 1995MVP replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
He had one real nice game in the playoffs against a weak Vikings defense. And crashed down to earth the following weak in the Divisional playoff game against the Eagles. He could be real good going forward. But he could also crash and burn, and turn into Carson Wentz. You just never know with QB's. Who is better he or Derrick Carr is the big question. I am not sure I would want either of them as my starter. But I would lean towards Jones. More mobility. And any QB who is going to break down and cry in a press conference after a game, that's not who I want leading my guys into battle every week. -
When healthy Poyer is a better football player then Edmunds and Oliver. And Tre White as well, if he looks next year like he did at the end of this season. Settle was lousy this year. And that was a big disappointment. I am a big Poyer fan. Sure he was not real good at the end of the year. But if he can get well. (Meniscus tear is not overly major in today's game) and will take a reasonable two year deal, (no guarantee) I would keep him and Taron Johnson, who makes a lot of tackles, and try and find replacements for the rest of the guys you mentioned.

Bills 2023 schedule 7th hardest (based off of 2022 opponents)
Paup 1995MVP replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
We need a legitimate O line. That was our biggest weakness. Other then Morse, all those guys, starters and backups are replaceable. Including Dawkins. He is average at best. Foolish to think we were going to the Super Bowl with this line. If Beane can improve the line substantially and add a few more pieces here and there, there is no reason we can not be a Championship team. -
Bills need to hit on picks to have a chance
Paup 1995MVP replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am not a sky is falling guy, like some on here. But your narrative isn't really telling the whole story either. Davis has been good but not great. Tyler Bass has been fine. But in today's game its not that hard to find a good kicker. Dane Jackson is small and should only be a depth guy. Rousseau has had some moments where he looks to have great potential. But also long stretches where he has not done much. Basham Epenesa Ford and Spencer Brown have all been below average. And Ed Oliver and Trey Edmunds have not dominated consistently commensurate to their draft position. I like Knox and Singletary was useful. But Moss was terrible. Shakir has big upside. And Hudgins should have had a big role this year. The combination of our drafting and coaching up players has not been nearly on the level of Kansas City. We have hung with them for the most part because of the skills of #17 and #14. And our secondary before they got injured. (But being stubborn and continuing to ride Levi Wallace for two years longer then we should have was an achilles heal as well) This is a huge offseason. We ended the year a very wounded animal. It remains to be seen if Beane and McDermott can fix things. The jury is out and time will tell. -
Brick-By-Brick, the NFL Losing Me As A Fan

Bradbury pulled his shirt. He got burned and got caught trying to make up for it. Is defensive holding only supposed to be called in the first half? The refs almost always call PI or holding when you grab the receivers jersey. Bradberry has always been overrated. He is nothing special and got caught moving inside too much against a pretty slow receiver in JSS. All he could do was hold. Tre White looked like that when he came back this season. Because it wasn't called early doesn't mean it shouldn't be called at crunch time. -

Olson and Burkhardt did a good low key job. And the other top FOX team of Moose Johnston and Joe Davis is also good. I wish they all were like that. One guy I miss who I don't think is on anymore is Chris Spielman. The guy knows football so well. And has that dry sense of humor. -

The only commercial worth a flip was the one w Ozzy and Paul Stanley. I am a big time rocker, and that was very cool. The halftime music show is a bit much (if you can even call that music) A 30 minute halftime is stupid. Imagine if the Super Bowl was just about the football game. Why would that be so bad? Its the championship of the football season. Should be a treat for all the fans who watched every Sunday year after year, crowning the best team. Why do non football fans need to watch the NFL football championship? Non baseball fans don't watch the World Series. Same with non hockey fans not watching the Stanley Cup. Does the World Cup have a live music act at halftime? (I am not sure because I don't watch soccer.) But I can not imagine big time soccer fans wanting to watch some Urban ***** pop singer in the middle of the biggest game of the year. -

Ball clearly moved when Smith hit the ground. In fact, it looked like the ball actually hit the ground. I thought it was a good call. The Sanders play is never ruled a catch. He got wacked as soon as the ball got there. No football move. I also thought the ball that was challenged that Goedart caught was not a catch either. That ball looked to be moving too. But I was biased for the Chiefs since I had a decent sized bet on them. LOL All in all a good Super Bowl to watch. But the Eagles defense had no answers in the second half. -
Exactly LGB. You summed it up perfectly. That era was when I became a fan. So hard nosed physical and violent. So many crazy characters. And so much raw energy and passion on the field every week. And Conrad Dobler was right in the middle of all that mayhem. But he sure could play. RIP with much respect!!

Ironically we defended the Chiefs better then anyone this year when we played them in KC. But without Von Miller we have no pass rushing to speak of. Its a vanilla defense with no top end guys except for Milano. Hopefully Hyde can come back and play at a high level. But he is over 30 so that is not guaranteed. We need to do some honest self evaluation and try and figure out what it will take to play at the level of the top teams. We were not that in the playoffs. Josh Allen is a great talent. But we need more then Diggs to complement him. And the coaching on both sides of the ball needs to be better. And that includes McDermott as well. Btw a great Super Bowl to end the season. Football is still the best sport in the world. Nothing comes close. Although NASCAR starts for real next Sunday. And I will enjoy it throughout the long offseason. -
Isn't that pretty much all fan bases? We love our team and think everyone else and their teams suck?!! As for ticket prices, absolutely ridiculous. Pretty bland matchup. Both teams have played well and deserved to be there. But Philly is as boring a team as it gets player wise. And everyone knows Mahomes and Kelce. But they don't really move the meter beyond being football players. The NFL is the ultimate team game. Its the best sport, with college football. But its not predicated on star power. I would argue Josh Allen is the biggest star in the game. Bam. I remember the Bills-Giants super bowl in 1991. Me and two buddies drove down from Atlanta to Tampa for the game. Paid $600 each for tickets. Seemed pretty expensive at the time. Called a ticket broker from an ad in USA Today. LOL. How things have changed.

Eagles olineman indicted on rape and kidnapping charges

You think Jason Kelce is doing that kind of nonsense? I highly doubt it. -
Oliver was a beast in college. But it is very difficult to play DT at his size in the NFL and be overly effective. (other than Aaron Donald and John Randle, I can't think of many guys his size) He doesn't suck but is not a consistently dominant presence on the field like we were hoping he would be. I think he has hit his ceiling. And its a solid but not great player. Is he really much better then a guy like Justin Zimmer? I don't think so. He certainly is not close to the level of Kyle Williams in his prime.

I agree Success about your complaints with our D scheme. We play our DB's in off man coverage almost always. We do not make it difficult and uncomfortable for opposing WR's to get off the ball and get open. This seems to make the mentality of our defense passive. Everyone of our players is not running around like a heat seeking missile looking for someone to destroy. The Cowboys-49ers game comes to mind. Both defenses were tearing it up and literally suffocating the opposing offenses. The final score was 19-12. With two TD's scored total. Every player on both defenses played physical. Who in our secondary is taking people out? I dare say we are soft and do not play defense with any measure of anger and rage. And I would argue that is from the passive approach taken by Frazier and McDermott. But the talent of our defense is nothing special. Other then Von Miller who is a difference maker on the D Line? We have none. Its that simple. Our secondary looked lousy and confused at the end of the year as well. Guys wide open all over the field. Is anyone in the secondary a stud at this point in their careers? I dare say no. Maybe Elam and Benford get there. But Tre looks slow. Poyer looks old and slow. Does Hyde come back next year? Dane Jackson is a liability. Taron Johnson was the best of the lot. And he is a better tackler then cover guy. Milano and Edmunds were the studs of the defense this year. Hands down. But Edmunds looked lost in the game against Cinci. And he will want a fortune to resign. He improved overall this year. But we can not afford to pay him big money. My point is the defense needs help. The offense also needs help. Something has to give.
