Wish they would just sign Klein at lb
Paup 1995MVP replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
People talk about Edmunds like he was great in pass coverage. How many interceptions did he ever have? He was decent covering RB's in the short zones out of the backfield. But usually was a step or two behind any receiver running down the field. Basically he looked lost beyond 10 yards down the field. The Bears so overpaid for Edmunds. Was there even a market for him that they would even consider paying him $18 million per year? I wonder if any other teams were interested. (probably not at that price.) Obviously money was Tremaine Edmunds main goal. Because I could not think of many franchises I would less want to play for then the Bears. Klein is more of an old school LB. Good as a blitzer, and tough against the run. Smart guy, who is not out of position much. Not an amazing athlete at this point. But can still play the game. -
NFL Network layoffs begin, ESPN layoffs expected
Paup 1995MVP replied to dpberr's topic in The Stadium Wall
That is quite an interesting post. My question is what the hell does Salesforce do that they need almost 80,000 employees? Thats the size of a medium town. -
Guys Josh Allen's size should not slide. You want a Justin Herbert?? Noone respects a big guy that slides. Heck Fitzie never slid. Mahomes rarely slides. If anything he is usually running out of bounds. The energy and mojo Allen brings to the team from a big run, banging through defenders is priceless. He has his game. That's what makes him special. All the great ones do. Its like telling Brett Favre not to throw darts 40 + yards downfield into a tight window of coverage. That was his game. It usually worked out. But not always. But that's what made the legend of Brett Favre.

Thanks for your analysis. I don't disagree with you. The Bills seem stuck on drafting underperforming and unathletic D Lineman with high draft picks. (I watch a lot of college football. But follow the teams more then the individual players.) Based on our drafting results since 2019, not overly impressive. Not sure why we are so averse from drafting O linemen from D 1 programs with high picks. Not all of them turn out great. But dam I am going to look to at least D 1 programs versus taking guys out of schools like Northern Iowa and Miami of Ohio for my O linemen. Great disparity in competition. And it shows when they come to the pros. College Football is so much based on offense now. So you would think the best players and athletes are more on the offensive side of the ball. So that is where you would think teams would go with their top picks. But not the Bills. I guess we think we know better. We shall see what happens in a months time.

Is Wright good enough to plug and play immediately at RT? If he is, then we have to take him. That is our biggest weakness on the roster. If he is gone, then I would take Dalton Kincaid, the TE from Utah. Kid is a beast. Knox is fine, but certainly not special. Kincaid would open up a lot of space on the field for the rest of our weapons. Super Bowl contenders do not have starting O lineman of Spencer Brown's caliber. That is a no brainer. But since drafting Josh Allen. Beane seems to have fallen asleep at the wheel with his drafting. Just has not brought in enough really good NFL football players.

Beane - mentioned 3rd comp pick
Paup 1995MVP replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall
Spector has more upside then Bernard and Dodson. He showed it last year in the preseason. And will be a big time baller this year. He will be our modern version of Zach Thomas. Dodson has marginal athletic skills. And Bernard is built like a safety. -
That's hilarious. Good old Kip from Napolean Dynamite! Where is LaFonda? They were quite the couple.

I agree with you about both Edmunds and Dawkins. The contract that Chicago gave Edmunds was laughable. We should bring in at least one solid tackle to compete with Dawkins and Brown. Competition is important. Unless you are the best at what you do (see Anthony Munoz, Tony Bosselli, Larry Allen, even Jason Peters in his prime) guys need competition to raise their game. The Bills seem to shy away from this for some reason.

Should we trade Ed Oliver?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
That pretty much summarizes Ed Oliver's tenure as a Bill perfectly. I thought he would be at least on Kyle Williams level. But he just is not that good of a player. (Kyle was a bigger man and had incredible quickness off the snap.) Oliver was really good at UH. But the Bills should have realized that he was just too small for his position to be worthy of the #9 pick in the draft. Lets hope he really steps it up to elite level this season playing in a contract year. It could happen. Although more likely we get more of the same from Ed O. -
Bills hosting/hosted David Edwards on visit
Paup 1995MVP replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
More competition the better on the O line. I liked Bates a lot at the end of 2021 at LG. But he seems very so so last year at RG. What kind of money do you think Edwards is worth? -
Bills hosting/hosted David Edwards on visit
Paup 1995MVP replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's frikin hilarious!! Not his pass blocking grade though. Does he have more upside then Bates? And he and Ike can wrestle to see who is the Bills best Big 10 West O lineman. Iowa and Wisconsin love their O lineman. -
Few and far between. Like the 5 penalty game against maybe the Falcons or Panthers in 2021? LOL And Dawkins got the 3 holding penalties in one game also. Is Jason Peters still upright? I hope to God you are correct that they draft a big time OT this year. I can not remember the last one we even had.. Maybe Cordy Glenn, when he was not injured. John Fina? Will Woolford and Howard Ballard?

Matt Ryan and Nick Foles. Not good.

Offensive outlook post Free Agency
Paup 1995MVP replied to HaldimandBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
We just resigned Quissenberry. Not happy w that. I pray we draft two studs on the O line in rounds 1 and 2. And get a tough LB in round 3 that McDermott can coach up to start in the middle. -
I am really sickened by your post. Big mistake just committing to Spencer Brown. We can only hope they can coach the kid up. Because he has sucked. And is usually injured. I don't know what to say about Quissenberry. He plays like he is stuck in quicksand.

Offensive outlook post Free Agency
Paup 1995MVP replied to HaldimandBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thanks for the response. Changing the offense some to a more 2 TE look gets me excited about the potential, and maybe will open more up for Diggs Davis Shakir and the other WR's. (Sherfield is intriguing. I don't know much about him but he sure had some wheels in the TD against San Fran on the first play from scrimmage.) -
Singletary does not have good hands catching passes. I think he was a liability there. I know Harris started at RB at Bama which says he has ability. And when I have watched him he has been pretty solid. I always want to be hopeful about the free agents we sign hoping they will be real good players for the Bills. Some are like Cole Beasley and John Brown, and some have not as much as we hoped like Mario Addison and Tyler Kroft, LOL

Offensive outlook post Free Agency
Paup 1995MVP replied to HaldimandBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thats a real nice summation of where things stand right now on offense Haldimand. What do you think of taking the TE Kincaid from Utah w our 1st round pick if he is still there. The guy was a big time playmaker at Utah. But is that really imperative given that we already probably underutilize Knox, who is pretty solid if not special? A lot of teams have two good TEs'. Why can't we? And can Quinton Morris be that guy? I agree about the O line needing reinforcements. Spencer Brown is definitely a weak link on the line. I am not sure he is even an NFL caliber player starter or reserve. And interesting about Bates. He didn't suck last year. Does he have a high enough ceiling to be a starter on a team thinking Super Bowl? Not sure. It does sound tempting going O line in the first two rounds. And having new starters at LG, RG, and RT. With Bates being the #1 IOL reserve. And then there is Ike Boetger. The guy plays tough and has somewhat of a mean streak. Can he be a solid starter at G if he can stay healthy? I have always like his toughness. And who replaces Morse when he hangs it up? He has been a leader and a good solid player over his tenure w the Bills. Will there be a drop off in his play at some point in the near future? Or will he play well enough this year that he gets another extension that keeps him playing into his mid 30's? He just is a tough dude. Reminds of some of the guys who played O line for the old Raiders teams of the 70's. With all the tape and casts on their hands and arms. LOL. That was old school football in the trenches of the highest degree... -
Singletary has not been a difference maker for us. He has been solid at times. But not the reason we have been a top team. He has a low ceiling based on what he has shown. No reason to resign him for 3-4 million. Damion Harris has been solid and sometimes more then that. At least against us. He has a little more pop then Singletary. Sometimes you have to reshuffle the deck. Noone should be complaining about this move. At least the signing of Harris and Sherfield shows that Beane is at least awake. The general consensus on this message board since the debacle two months ago against the Bengals in the playoffs is that Beane and McDermott have not built a good enough team around Josh Allen. There is a sense of frustration, desperation for some (yes you Iron Maiden Bills-love the guys user name, but where his head is in the thread he started last nite is way too far gone!) and some angst for most of us. We are all huge Bills and football fans. We think management has not stepped up like they should have. And the trust of Beane's judgment seems at an all time low. Understandable to a degree. But looking at players like Damion Harris, he is a good addition to any team. Good football players (which the guy is) only make your team better. We just need to find some good football players who are big and play on the lines. That is where we have fallen short.
-
I was not a big fan of Moss. He had no wiggle, not much vision and was slow. Great traits for a 3rd round RB. LOL Singletary was better. But nothing overly special. We just signed Damien Harris. I like that signing. But we still need some O lineman to block for him!!
-
Underutilized?? Do you think he had Thurman Thomas, Lasean McCoy or even Fred Jackson ability?!! The guy was a decent RB at times. Had stone hands out of the backfield. But he was nothing that can not be replaced. And did not have anything that would remotely be considered a unique skill set. Time for a bigger bruising back who can carry would be tacklers
-
At least we were smart enough not to resign him. The kid looked early on like he might be a real NFL caliber type player. Unfortunately it did not materialize in Buffalo. The NFL is a tough place to make a living. A lot of Jacquan Johnson's out there. Good luck to him.

Well said Gunner. And that is why people who are scared of the Jets if Aaron Rodgers ends up there need to step off the ledge. In his 15 years as starting QB for the Packers, they made the Super Bowl one time in his third year after the 2010 season. And now in his twilight years there is no way he can carry a team. The Packers last year were a run first team. Everyone blames his WR's the past couple years. That's nonsense. He looked tentative as can be whenever he dropped back to pass. The best passing game the Packers had all last season was when Jordan Love came in the second half against Philly on Sunday nite. And he had the same receivers that Rodgers had. As for the Bills, Beane has not done a good enough job so far building a great roster around Josh Allen. It isn't terrible. But the O line has certainly been sub par. And other then Diggs, there are no weapons that scare opposing teams. The roster has been good enough to beat the decent to poor teams. But in crunch time in the playoffs it has not been good enough. And the coaching has not been good enough. Hopefully that will change this year. But I really question Beane and McDermott's ability to put a championship type roster together. Not saying it can't happen. I just have my concerns.
-
Thank you. It is a nice set up. I agree. Would like to see a couple more solid players brought in. But to be honest with Beane's track record the past few years w Free Agents and drafting, I really don't have a lot of confidence in his evaluation of talent. The brilliance of Josh Allen has been able to mask an overall somewhat mediocre roster. Especially on both lines. Beane has really missed w our big guys. Lets hope that turns around shortly.
