The best RB in the league last season got all of -2 yards against us on Sunday. Bernard obviously played a part in that. Why change anything with that kind of play? While he may not be an amazing athlete. Bernard has much better instincts on the football field then Tremaine Edmunds had. And speaking of Edmunds, he maybe a very rich young man. But he sure better get used to losing. Because the Bears are terrible.

The other real story is that Tre White looks like he is running in quicksand. He has nowhere near the burst that he played with before his knee injury. And that's too bad. But thats the NFL. Lets hope he gets better the more he plays. But Elam can play in the NFL. Don't write him off yet because he isn't dressing. It would not shock me if this is Tre's last year with the team. And then we go Benford Elam and Jackson as our top 3 boundary corners.

I am too Newcam. The 13 seconds loss was heartbreaking. But at least we competed our asses off. And with solid coaching should have closed that game out. The Cinci game we really did not show up. And that was embarrasing. The team needs to chart a new course in 2023. The offense that worked from 2020-2022 is not working any longer. It started coming apart last season (pretty much starting w the second half against Green Bay) and keeps plunging downward. Of course Josh Allen's reckless turnover plague play has contributed a lot to the current state of the offense. But its more then that. We need more creativity and identity of what type of offense we plan to be. It has to be more then Diggs and Cook, and Josh running around like his hair is on fire. Lets hope that starts this Sunday against Las Vegas.. But back to my earlier point, we need some big wins to exorcise the demons of the past two seasons, and give the players, and maybe the coaching staff too some confidence that this team is different, and more mentally and physically tough to win the big games come playoff time. Obviously not a good start Monday night. But lets see what happens going forward to right the ship.

Very interesting analysis Newcam. Very interesting analysis Newcam. I like your posts. You see the big picture pretty well. I was pretty sickened after the loss. Thought I was in the twilight zone. With Rodgers going down, we should have won by 20 easily. McDermott doesn't try and crush teams. He lacks that killer instinct. And the roster is lacking a lot of juice in spots. We have not drafted particularly well, and have a lot of mediocre middling type players who are not game changers. Diggs will be great for maybe another 2 years after this. Seriously who will take his place. There is noone else on the roster at WR who is anything remotely special. Kincaid should be a big timer. But he needs to be running up the seams like he did at Utah. We were better at WR when we had Sanders and Beasley to complement Diggs. Davis scares noone as a #2 WR. He is just not athletic enough. The offense was pretty bland and predictable against the Jets. And Josh feels he has to take matters into his own hands. And the results were not good. Personally, I believe the organization from top to bottom is still reeling over the 13 seconds loss to KC and the debacle last year against Cinci in the playoffs. We need some big wins to get the team back on its winning axis and let the league and our own players feel like we can compete at the top of the NFL again. We should beat down Las Vegas and Washington (at least I hope). But the big test will come weeks 4 and 5 against Miami and Jax. After week 5 we should have a good idea of where this team is and is heading.

The Giants was an all time embarrasing performance. Worst O line I can remember. Evan Neil at RT (1st round pick) makes Spencer Brown look almost competent. Daniel Jones was done after the 1st series. Scared to throw the ball. Cowboys are good on Defense. But Dak will screw it up at some point during the season. Awful loss for the Bills last nite. And despite all of Josh's turnovers, we had the ball in OT and could have won the game and did nothing. That's on coaching as much as execution, because we had nothing to turn to playwise to get down the field. Its 1st and 15, how about a screen to Murray or Harris? Both were fresh and barely played. How about a seam pass down the middle to Kincaid off of play action? How about send Diggs deep down the field drawing double coverage, and have Sherfield or Shakir cross underneath at 15-20 yards. Even a sweep by Josh w a bunch of blockers leading the way was better then the 3 BS plays we ran. Total failure by the coaching staff. And of course the game should have never got to OT. But you just had a sense that the team really had no game plan coming in. McDermott's teams have had no identity the past several seasons. Its just been let Josh work his magic, and Hyde and Poyer will cover the back end. Well the magic has gone poof. And Hyde and Poyer have gotten old. Where were Harty and Sherfield last night? And I can not imagine we drafted Kincaid just to run 5 yard outs. (He was wide open in the flat on Josh's 3rd int, and easily would have had the 1st down and then some) At Utah Kincaid was always running down the field. We already have our dump off guy in Knox. Need to be running Kincaid down the seam all game. That is where he will create mismatches. It really doesn't matter what offense you run. You just need to run your offense very well to be a very good to great team in today's NFL. The Bills are not doing that right now. Our stud QB has regressed. The O line is not nearly good enough from tackle to tackle. And the coaching is suspect at best. What happened to yards after the catch? Noone is open in space on our team. At least Beasley a few years ago was always able to dive or juke forward for 5-10 extra yards. There was almost none of that last night, or against Cincinnati last year. Against good teams you have to change things up a bit. And the Bills look very stagnant on offense. Where were Harty and Sherfield last night? We will never win anything with McD here
Paup 1995MVP replied to HomeskillitMoorman's topic in The Stadium Wall
Daboll's Giants did not exactly look prepared last nite did they? But this is a ridiculous loss tonite. The team is a mess. With Rodgers out we should have won by 3 TD's. Does McDermott even talk to any of the players during the game? The FG on 4th and 2 was really weak, and sent a bad message. Even at the end of regulation, its 3rd and 10 w no TO's left, 10 seconds to play and we are running a play? if Josh gets sacked, game over. Kick the FG on 3rd down.. My god. We are just a rudderless ship right now. -
Herbert is never great. He was good at times, like he always is. But he comes up short in the clutch time and again. Agree that Chargers defense is just plain bad.

Is this Bills team better than the 2020/2021/2022 versions?
Paup 1995MVP replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
If the O line play is at least at a decent to good level (doesn't have to be very good to great) and the coaching is solid throughout the season, we will be strongly in the mix come January. The best Bills team of all time seems a bit much before we have even played a game yet. There were some real good teams in the 60's and the Super Bowl teams had some really really good players across the board. So lets hold off on those kinds of statements until we get through the grind of a 17 game regular season. I think we are all excited as Bills fans with the potential of the team. But there is excitement with a lot of fan bases right now. -
Bernard, Torrence and Benford all officially starters
Paup 1995MVP replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
I love the Terrance McGee reference. One of my favorite all time Bills. Could have played in any era. I like Benford's game too. Play's with confidence and just looks comfortable at his craft. Lets hope Bernard does the same. I have no idea what to expect out of him. Just hope he has bulked up some from last year. And has more quickness and better instincts then Dodson, who looked like a poor man's version of London Fletcher at best. -
The Bills may not have a bunch of A list Superstars on offense after Allen and Diggs. But they have a lot of talent nonetheless. Sherfield and Harty are both better then what we have had at the back of the WR depth chart. And Shakir should not be written off yet. We have three TE's that can play. Morris is an NFL player. And Gabe Davis can still be a good to very good NFL WR. Our RB's all can play too. If our O line is above average, we should dominate most weeks on offense. As for our defense, in today's NFL there are not many defensive stars like in yesteryear. It is an offensive game, and the rule changes have taken the physical intimidation and domination out of most defenses, and defensive players. So in today's game you are just not going to have the number of stud defenders that the Bills had in decades past. There are just not that many out there. But our secondary is as solid as any in the league if our guys stay healthy. And our D line looked much improved overall in the preseason. If we get solid O line play, and good coaching on defense with whatever scheme we run, we should be strongly in the mix for the Super Bowl this year.
-
Kupp has a hamstring issue, after missing the second half of last year w a bad ankle injury that required surgery. He will miss some time this year. And will likely gradually decline because he is 30 and playing on some rough turf in LA. He will be good but not dominant anymore.
-
I agree about Brown. He just has not shown a consistency to his game, that a starting NFL O lineman should have. The game does not look easy for him. If he falters early, hopefully the Bills are not afraid to sit his butt down, and let Ifedi play.
-
Thanks for John Fina history. 10 years with the Bills and then finished with the Cardinals. Thats a dam solid career playing at least 10 years in the NFL. He can be proud of that. My favorite O lineman was Kent Hull. A dam good Center. And a real good guy. Mitch Morse kind of reminds me of him with his leadership. Not quite the level of player as Hull was. But a good player nonetheless.
-
Thanks for some O line updates. That's right Daryl Williams had one good year at RT. There have not been many in the last two decades.
-
Is McGovern health enough to start at LG? And if not, is it going to be Edwards with Torrance at RG? Bates is the backup center. Can anyone tell me how he has looked this preseason? Can Anderson play Center as well? I agree 10 O lineman seems like a lot. But Anderson looked good against Chicago. Is Ifedi better then Spencer Brown? If so, get him in at starting RT.
-
What was his years with the Bills? Was he on the last Super Bowl team and then through the 90's? I don't remember that well. Know he certainly wasn't as good as Will Wolford. Who was an excellent O lineman/O Tackle. But I think overall better then Dion Dawkins.
-
That's a great tutorial on things Logic. However, that does not change the fact that we really do not want Quessenberry on the field. He is not a good football player. He is not even a mediocre NFL lineman. He is pretty bad. Tough guy, playing on the bad ankle last year. But just not a very good player. Can anyone who knows a lot about offensive line play from a technical standpoint explain why there are so few good offensive tackles in today's NFL? It seems there were a lot more decent to good ones back in the 70's, 80's, 90's and earlier 2000's. I never loved John Fina. Thought he was decent but not great. But by today's standards the guy was a really good player.
-
Keith Ellison would be the biggest LB on the roster if he was still playing today. LOL As for Dodson. Just cut his ass. Guy is as slow as a dead horse. I can not imagine he would start ahead of my boy Baylen Spector. I really believe at a lot of positions the Bills have decided long ago who is going to start and make the roster. They have "their" guys. And the rest are just camp fodder. Doesn't matter how they play in training camp or the preseason. Exhibit # 1 is Isiah Hudgins. And where is their boy Kumerow these days? I am surprised the Bills don't have him in the top 4 WR's as much as they loved him on the roster.
-
Their O line is terrible. Hasn't been good since Kevin Mawae and Nick Mangold retired. Dwayne Brown is like 57 playing LT. He was overrated when he was young. And now just plain sucks. And so does the fat boy Kelvin Beachum.

John Harbaugh on the importance of preseason
Paup 1995MVP replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jim can coach. Go Blue!! John on the other hand is a whiner and overrated. Jack was the patriarch who coached I believe at Western Kentucky years ago (Maybe Western Michigan) An old school football family for sure. -
Nuggets of Infor From Bills Practice 8/22
Paup 1995MVP replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Makes a lot of sense. We have a lot of good players. They may not feel that the coaching staff is good enough relative to the roster we have. So they are tuning the coaching staff out. There is a big difference between taking a bad team, and making it competitive like the Lions did last year. And making a good team a championship team. McDermott has not done that yet. And the guys who know him best, his players, may not see that greatness in him leading them to the promised land. We will see soon enough as the season unfolds. If Josh Allen plays well, we will have a chance. If Josh Allen plays spectacular week in and week out especially late in the season and into the playoffs we will be playing for the Lombardi. -
Bills Signing OL Garrett McGhin (who)
Paup 1995MVP replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's good to know. Maybe he is a keeper who will keep getting better. I will try and watch what he does when I watch the Steelers replay and next weeks game against the Bears.
