Playing well for 58 minutes doesn't cut it, it's a 60 minute game. The D lost us this game plain and simple.

Just saw the replay of the TD on PrimeTime
MDH replied to ajzepp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There were no defenders within 10 yards of Shelton, he could have lofted it up, the D would have reacted and they still wouldn't have been close to Shelton when he caught the TD pass...Drew played a pretty decent game, but that was a huge mistake. -
Good thing this kind of smart play is made by one of our "leaders"...with leaders like this no wonder this team crumbles in crunch time.

The Official "I Can't Wait 'Till JP Comes Back"
MDH replied to NEEDFREDJACKSONNOW's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Drew played an pretty good conservative game overall, though he missed a wide open Shelton in the endzone on the play he took the sack. The main problem with this team is that we want to play a conservative, ball control offense that lets our D win games for us...this inevitably leads to low scoring, close games....unfortunately we have one of the worst kickers in the league and a D that always seems to give up gaming winning drives late. That's a recipe for a bad season unless we can somehow starting learning to win close games. This is exactly what the Pats do and this Bills team needs to learn to do it too if they want to go to the postseason. -
Mike Mularkey's first big gameday decision
MDH replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It wasn't a mistake in foresight (and anybody can second guess things in hindsight). The D hadn't allowed a TD all game long, you make the other team drive the field to win the game, you don't give them a short field when your FG kicker misses the kick....and it was pretty much a foregone conclusion he would miss that kick. -
How is that bad? It's bad when they give up the 80 yard game winning drive to lose the game. I'm so sick of defending this D by pointing up at the scoreboard and saying, "we only allowed 13 points!"....Good Ds don't allow those type of drives, it's their job to put the game away, period.

This is precisely what this team didn't need

I was hoping for better things too. People can try to blame Lindell or the offense, and yeah, Lindell could have hit that kick and yeah the O could have put up more points...but this loss is all the Ds. You HAVE to make plays in crunch time. HAVE TO. The Bills still can't make plays when they have to. In the NFL pretty much every game is close, this D is still the overated unit from last year, with the game on the line they give up drives. -
Who hates the Pats more than the Fins?
MDH replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This isn't college football, this is the modern day NFL where just about all the games are close. The Pats don't get "lucky", I hate the Pats but g'damn I'm tired of hearing that. They win close tough games on a consistant basis...you can't do that with luck. They know how the win, they don't crumble when games are close at the end, they methotically keep doing their thing and inevitabley the other team makes mistakes. That's smart, good football, not "luck". I don't understand wanting to dismiss what the Pats have done, if they're just a "lucky" team then what satisfaction will we get from beating them? I'd prefer to think of them as a great team and when we beat them we'll have accomplished something. -
What do you think is the dumbest rule in any sport
MDH replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How on earth can nobody have mentioned the DESIGNATED HITTER rule!?! There is no rule more stupid in all of sports. Here is our starting lineup...errr, wait, no, we don't want that guy to hit, he sucks, so we'll have somebody hit for him. It takes all half the strategy out of games not to mention lets the pitchers throw at the opposing teams players with no recourse because he doesn't have to worry about being throw at himself. Once the AL starts playing real baseball maybe I'll have some respect for the league... Any rule put in simply so the kinda-sorta fans can enjoy more offense is an idiotic rule. I have to say, college footballs OT system is a pretty close second though. -
Chris Brown baby! I nabbed him as my 4th RB in fantasy (where you can start up to 4RBs because there are 2 "flex" positions...I plan on starting 4RBs) and I think he'll put up some huge numbers this year, better than George has the last two seasons. Something in the neighborhood of 1300+ yards and 10TDs.

1. McNair 2. Manning 3. Brady After these three it's a bit of a drop off. Favre was one of the all time greats, but he's not the same QB he used to be. I'd still say he's probably sitting at #4.
-
NO QB can win it on his own. There hasn't ever been one and there won't ever be one.
-
I'm curious where the hell this comes from? Why do people think that Brady is gay exactly? Not that it matters I suppose, I guess I'm just not from the "real guy" school of thinking it's funny to say someone is "gay" or a "fag" as if it's some sort of insult because I don't like the guy.
-
I wouldn't say that people who don't think Brady is a great QB don't know football...but it's either that or they're so blinded by their hatred of the Pats that it clouds their judgement or they're just unwilling to admit they were wrong and give the guy some props. I used to think Brady could only dink and dunk it down the field, but after watching him last season I was convinced that this guy was a fantastic QB. He makes great decisions, has an amazing knack for stepping around in the pocket to avoid pressure and throws THE MOST ACCURATE BALL in the NFL. Anybody who likes watching good football should enjoy seeing this guy perform. All this "system QB" stuff is a bunch of crap. There are no QBs whose offenses are't taylored around their specific talents. What makes Brady any different than these QBs? When people say "he's a system QB" that makes it sound like ANY QB could step into that offense and do the same things Brady is doing and that's just not so. Case in point: Drew Bledsoe. Brady runs that offense to perfection and he deserves a lot of credit.

How will DB do in the short passing game this year
MDH replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The main problem I've always had with Bledsoe, even more so than his penchant for holding onto the ball too long, was the fact that he is very inaccurate on his short throws. His mid to long range stuff is fine, but he lacks any type of fine touch on throws less than 10 yards....which is why you see Brady succeeding in the same offense that Drew struggled in while in New England. Drew has looked pretty good this pre-season, but I’m a little leery of how he’ll do in a quick rhythm passing game, I guess we’ll see. -
If I'm not mistaken they did the same thing last year and the Bills won the SB in their "simulation"....we all know how accurate that was.
-
RJ wasn't easily hurt is the thing. That guy took more big hits than any QB I've ever seen, and kept getting up from them. The problem is he wasn't intelligent enough to change his game so he'd STOP taking those hits. Anybody who took as my huge shots as RJ was bound to get injured quite a few times. If Loseman continues to play like he does, taking on tacklers, he'll get hurt just like RJ...if he's smart and changes his game, he'll be fine. It has nothing to do with body type.

So sick of people calling the Pats lucky. Winning close games is the sign of a mentally tough team that knows how to win in crunch time, not luck. Don't let your blind hatred of the enemy cloud your site. The Pats are a great team, period. Did you see the stat tonight, they've won something like 28 straight games which they've led going into the 4th quarter...that my friend can not happen by just being "lucky".
-
The sack came from his front side, not his blind side. He should have read the blitzer pre snap and once he saw him come in unblocked chucked the ball away so Vanderjack would only have a 35 yard FG to tie the game. The blitz was not disguised at all.
-
Manning took a sack from the front side when the ONLY thing he didn't want to do was take a sack. Say what you want about Brady, there's no way he takes a sack in that situation. Manning is a great QB, but damn if he doesn't choke against the Pats in crunch time every time.

Colts 27 Pats 17

(OT) Still Alive ! ... Rate my FFL Team !
MDH replied to TSNBDSC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, I don't like your draft at all. Should have grabbed Holmes with the 1st overall pick, that was a bad move taking Tomlinson. Holmes will put up 20+ TDs this year, the Chargers will have trouble putting up that many as a team. Domminick Davis in the 2nd round? Huh? Is this a 20 team league? He's a 4th rounder tops. Favre in teh 4th was a stretch too...I got him as my backup in the 10th (in a 10 team league). I'd say Smith was taken about a round too early as well. The key to good drafting isn't just taking players you think will have good seasons, it's understanding where other owners value these players and grabbing them in later rounds if possible. -
Don't you want the best players on the field no matter where they were drafted? I do, if Mularky says Reeds is better for this team than Evans I'm sure he knows more about it than your or me. You want Evans to start because you HOPE he'll be good, not that he's actually better than Reed right now. And since when does the #3 WR "sit on the bench"? He'll see plenty of playing time and once he is a better wideout than Reed he'll be starting, but not until then. Reed is a MUCH better WR than you give you credit for. He had no viable #1 opposite of him last year (with a gimpy Moulds running half speed), so how can you judge him on his merits of being a solid #2? If we threw Evans into the starting lineup now and he didn't put up huge numbers right off the bat you'd be the first guy calling him a "bust".
