I think trading JP is a good idea. It is better to get something for him then to not get anything. He won't be around next year, and the Bills can use the pick to groom a backup. I have a feeling this is what the Bills have in mind for after the second round. The Bills defnitely need a pass catching TE. I also like your idea of using multiple picks on wide receivers; however, I think it would be better in the middle rounds, such as 3rd & 4th than 7th. Let's face it they need help, and it was always a Giant's strategy to use multiple picks on the same position when it is a position of high need. It would be very rare to have both players become busts. I think you forgot to mention that the Bills need to find a full back, which will substantially help the running game. I think getting a defensive end would help make the Bills defensive line become dominant. I really don't think they are going to draft Rivers since he plays weak side linebacker, where they brought in the player from the Giants. There is going to be a lot movement in this draft, and I hope the Bills trade down since they need help in a lot of areas plus depth. If you were to include depth, they are going to have to draft some linebackers for special teams.

I can understand how people will say that teams will turn things around, but we are playing the top of the draft. The Bills should show improvement just because they improved the defensive line, with that alone they should at least win one more game, but the teams they are going to play stink. If they didn't improve at all in the off-season, they should show marked improvement.

It really seems like the Bills are going to trade down. Both the Vikings and Houston have big needs that cannot be addressed where they are, but can be addressed by trading with the Bills. I really think the Bills are going to trade down, and pick up another second rounder while still getting a wide receiver.

I want to make one reference to all the people saying that it makes sense for the Bills to reach for a position of greatest need as opposed to selecting the best player in a position of need. The Bills did the same thing with Eric Flowers. It was a big mistake. The Bills have to get a couple of starters, hopefully three or four out this draft as well as building up their depth for special teams. If the Bills could find someone who will be at least as good as Lee Evans, then I think they should definitely select a wide receiver. If they can get a defensive end who is at least as good as Aaron Schobel, then they should pick up a defensive end. I am not excited about any of the cornerbacks, since I think they will only last until their rookie contract expires. I understand the frustration of a lot Bills fans, that the Bills have a used second round picks on wide receivers and defensive ends, which haven't had a big impact. In my opinion, the Bills should either trade down so they have more chances to find an impact players or they should draft a player who have the biggest impact for the Bills irregardless of position.

I think the issue is leaving value on the table. I think it is foolish to reach for a player when a team can trade down get as good a player and get more chances to draft more quality players. Also, it would be better to draft a better player in a position of the highest need than the to reach for highest need and overall talent level of the team suffers. I don't think that the Bills are one player away, and if the Bills are going to catch up with the Patriots they are going to have to get a lot more talented.

I think a lot of people on this board are missing the point. The Bills can only win a Super Bowl by having better players than other teams, especially the Patriots. I think it would be idiotic if the Bills selected a less talented player because it is a position of supposed greater need. It is hard to get quality defensive ends, especially in later rounds; however, the Bills have to have a play maker, and I really do not want to see them reach like they did with Whitner. If the Bills absolutely need to draft a wide receiver, they should trade down to get more picks. As far as offense vs. defense, I am sure the Bills are going to go heavy on offense in this draft, but if a better player is available on defense, I think they have to select him. Both sides of the ball were really bad, hence the 7-9 record. It was a team effort.

Donahoe moved up to draft Denney because he heard that the Steelers were very interested in him. Look at how well that turned out.

After last year, I feel like he was the biggest free agent loss for the Bills. He was one of the best if not the best conditioning coaches. The Bills have not been the same since he left. Frankly, I think he could be a bigger loss that Pat Williams. Did the Bills lose Takeo Spikes because they let Rusty Jones go? I remember an article by Don Shula that stated one of the biggest reasons for the Dolphins turn-around when he took over was because the of the changes he made to the teams conditioning.

I think that the point is that a team shouldn't draft a wide receiver very high in the first round because good and or serviceable wide receivers are not as rare as quality defensive linemen. Plus, the likelyhood of being a bust is too high. There are certain positions that should be drafted in different areas of the first round. Top ten should be defensive linemen and quarterbacks. The bottom ten should be wide receivers, tight ends, and corner backs. Certainly, there are exceptions; however, this seems to be true over time. Personally, I think it would be a big mistake for the Bills to reach for a wide receiver because they need one. They should either trade down, or they should select the best player available. I think it would be better to get a cornerback who is worthy of this spot then pick a player who isn't. The most important aspect is that the Bills do not draft a bust. Not to mention, how many people on this board really believe that the Bills are one player away?

I know they aren't big name guys, but they have played well. Remember McGee was out-playing Clements, which is why he got the extention and Clements didn't. Greer beat out a lot of other cornerbacks to get the starting job. I know there were injuries, but he certainly deserves to be starter from how he played last year. Is he Champ Bailly, no! Do the Bills need to add at least another cornerback in this draft, yes! However, they are definitely not the weakest link on this team.

I think that winning equates to no looking any further. I think that the team has to keep looking for options until the QB position is settled. If there is going to be true competition for the starting position, then it might make sense to keep him, but I don't think that is the case. Keeping a player for one more year when there is an opportunity to get something in return does not make sense. How many people on this board complained about losing Nate Clements without getting in return. Next year, when JP leave in free agency, there are people who are going to complain that the Bills will get nothing in return. He does not want to stay, so he will leave unless they make him the full time starter with the salary to match. He is not going to sign a long term deal to be a backup.

Who cares whether he has gotten a fair chance? He has gotten a lot better chance than a lot of other players. When he had the chance, he didn't perform. This is not affirmative action or middle school sports where everybody is supposed to win a prize. This is professional football. The Bills reached when they traded up for him, and they are paying for it now. They should have drafted one of the higher rated quarterbacks in that draft. Maybe with enough practice time he can be a starter like Todd Collins, but how long should we have to wait. It is so important that the Bills win. They are a lot less likely to move if they can win a Super Bowl. Last season, he looked a lot like Rob Johnson.
